‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’ actor will trade Broadway for red carpets when ‘Deathly Hallows’ premieres in July. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News The end is almost upon us. Over a decade after production on the first “Harry Potter” began, the final film hits theaters in July, and as J.K. Rowling promised Daniel Radcliffe , she’s not going to write more books about the boy wizard. That’s fine by Radcliffe, who has joked on many an occasion that he’s ready to leave the franchise behind, not least because there’d be something unseemly about playing Harry as the actor approached middle age. But he’s not done with “Potter” yet. There’s still the upcoming press tour for the second part of “Deathly Hallows,” which will require Radcliffe to step away from his new Broadway musical, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” for a few days. And, as he told MTV News recently, transitioning from one show-business world to another is going to be strange. “In a way, it will probably be weird to suddenly have to switch out of the mode I’m in for this show and then go and do press,” he said, adding with a laugh, “But I can do that. I’m very versatile!” Being able to jump from performing to plugging and back again, Radcliffe added, simply comes with the territory. “I think any actor that does a big film or even a show like this now without the expectation that they will have to do press for it is very naive,” he said. “It’s part of the job. It’s as much a part of the job almost as anything else.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Coming in and doing a two-and-a-half-hour show every evening will seem like a holiday after the last couple months,’ he tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” star Daniel Radcliffe will perform the same routine eight times a week on Broadway for the rest of the year and into 2012, but the actor will happily take that relative monotony instead of the exhaustive rehearsals he’s endured for the last several months. “It feels very good to have opened — it really does,” he told MTV News following the musical’s premiere Sunday. “We’ve had a long-ish preview period — I can’t say long anymore because of ‘Spider-Man’ — but it feels great to be here and know the show is set now and we don’t have to rehearse during the day and we get to chill out. Honestly, coming in and doing a two-and-a-half-hour show every evening will seem like a holiday after the last couple months.” The work has clearly paid off, as reviews for his performance have been largely positive. “Daniel Radcliffe is so adorable in his Broadway musical debut, you just want to pinch his cheeks,” wrote the New York Post. “It’s not just his youth — the ‘Harry Potter’ star is 21 — but the endearing amount of dedication and enthusiasm he pours into steering the [play].” That’s got to feel good for a guy who’s gone on record that he has no particular talent for singing and dancing . But Radcliffe put in the work, and now he’s looking forward to a bit more time to himself. Not that he’s got ambitious plans for his downtime. When MTV News asked if he’ll have a chance to enjoy New York City, he said, “I will be able to now because the day-to-day rehearsal will have stopped. I’m just kind of relaxing and reading and chilling out. You know this; I don’t do anything interesting!” Will you check out Radcliffe on Broadway? Let us know in the comments! The ‘Country Strong’ star and the ‘Glee’ actor have recorded a version of ‘Over the Rainbow’ for his upcoming release. By Aly Semigran Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Morrison Photo: GETTY/ Michael Tran Holly Holliday will be making sweet music with Will Schuester once more. Translating from Gleek speak, Oscar-winning-actress-turned-singing-staple Gwyneth Paltrow will be crooning yet another number with Matthew Morrison. Entertainment Weekly reports that Paltrow will appear on Morrison’s upcoming solo album, which is due out on May 10. On “Glee,” recurring guest Paltrow — who plays flaky substitute teacher Holliday — has covered Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” and Prince’s “Kiss,” the latter of which she performed with Morrison’s Mr. Schue. Now, the Golden Globe-nominated Morrison is having the “Country Strong” star help him out on his debut record, on a tune that’s become almost synonymous with his “Glee” character: “Over the Rainbow.” As Morrison told EW, “People kind of know me for that song now.” The Broadway-trained actor not only used the timeless “Wizard of Oz” number for his “Glee” audition, but also sang it with co-star Mark Salling (who released his own solo effort, Pipe Dreams , in 2010) during the season 1 finale — both times accompanying himself on ukulele. “I wanted to do a duet with a female. I thought that was a good song to do, and we really did a different arrangement of it,” Morrison explained about the version he recorded for his album. “It’s a lot of strings, and it’s beautiful.” Morrison admitted that he felt nervous about approaching Paltrow to see if she’d participate in the recording. “The hardest part of doing this album was asking these people favors, like Elton [John] and her,” he said. “I’m so not that guy.” In addition to Paltrow and John, Morrison also has ‘NSYNC member JC Chasez lined up for a duet on a song titled “Dancing in the Rain.” While there’s no word yet on who, if any, of his “Glee” castmates will appear on the record — both had championed to get their own duets on the album — co-star Jenna Ushkowitz has already been singing its praises . Ushkowitz, who plays glee-club member Tina Cohen-Chang on the show, told MTV News on the red carpet of the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January, “His music is really great.” She went on to say that Morrison “made his own sound” on the album, while adding that it was “a little bit of Justin Timberlake … [and] symphonic-sounding.” Morrison has yet to announce a title for album, though the actor did reveal to MTV News at Clive Davis’ post-Grammy bash in February that ” My Name ” has been considered as a possibility. The ‘Water for Elephants’ star said he fears fanboy backlash when it comes to superhero movies. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News Imagine Robert Pattinson in tights, fighting crime as an iconic character. While the heartthrob would undoubtedly have the Twihards lining up for days to see him play a superhero, he thinks there’s one set of moviegoers who wouldn’t be nearly as keen on the idea: fanboys! During Friday’s “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” a live, 30-minute chat with the “Water for Elephants” star, RPattz revealed he would, in fact, take on a superhero role if it were presented to him. “I’d love [to] definitely.” But the actor does have some reservations about taking on the genre, including which superhero he would play. “I don’t know what superhero you’d do. Is there any left?” he asked. Robert did, however, admit that there’s one character he’d like to suit up for, but he gave pause when he realized what a stir he might cause by even mentioning it. “I shouldn’t even say this stuff, ’cause all the little fanboys will be like, ‘No! I’m gonna shoot him!’ ” he joked. So, while we may never know which character Robert is “such a big fan” of, we do know that he’s not yet in contention for the role of Matt Murdock in “Eclipse” director David Slade’s upcoming “Daredevil” reboot . “I don’t know where that one came from at all,” Robert said of the rumors that he was lined up to play the comic book vigilante. But, that wasn’t the only thing he found confusing about the future remake. When MTV News mentioned another “Daredevil” was in the works, Robert asked, “[That] Ben Affleck movie?” He then pondered with a laugh about the 2003 flick, “That’s weird, didn’t that only come out about three years ago?” The 24-year-old star did have some casting ideas of his own. “Get David Slade to play him,” Robert said of his former “Eclipse” director. “Oh no, he should play, who’s the bald guy? Bullseye!” Which superhero would you like to see Robert Pattinson play? ‘Reese [Witherspoon] had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig,’ RPattz says of scene in ‘Water for Elephants.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News We’ve heard Robert Pattinson talk about his love scenes before. “Lot of my crack in it!” he once laughed to us about what we can expect in the upcoming drama ” Bel Ami .” And we’ve even seen photographic evidence of his honeymoon boom-boom with Kristen Stewart in December’s first installment of ” Breaking Dawn .” But when it comes to Pattinson’s amorous encounters onscreen, his fans can never get enough. It’s no surprise then that one Twitter user submitted a question during “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” asking if the actor felt awkward doing love scenes with “Water for Elephants” co-star Reese Witherspoon. Awkward, no. Sick? Well, yes. “The love scene in this, I was doing it when I had a really bad cold,” Pattinson explained. “I’m not generally that awkward doing stuff apart from when I’ve got my belly coming out. But my nose is running all over the place and it was in one of the additional photography scenes, and Reese had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig.” “We were doing this really passionate love scene,” he added with a giggle. “It was really stupid. I guess I’m not that awkward anymore.” The key with any love scene, Pattinson went on to make clear, is that it has to make sense within the context of the story. You can’t just get freaky in front of the camera because someone thinks it’ll boost ticket sales. “It always depends. You’ve got to really know what you’re doing. If it’s just a sort of arbitrary love scene, it’d be quite difficult,” he said. And what of his scene with Stewart in “Breaking Dawn,” the one we got an early, feather-filled glimpse of in January? Rob hesitated before saying simply, “The one on ‘Breaking Dawn’ is pretty funny.” Check out everything we’ve got on ” Water for Elephants .” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
