Robert Pattinson Dishes On Awkward Love Scenes

‘Reese [Witherspoon] had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig,’ RPattz says of scene in ‘Water for Elephants.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News We’ve heard Robert Pattinson talk about his love scenes before. “Lot of my crack in it!” he once laughed to us about what we can expect in the upcoming drama ” Bel Ami .” And we’ve even seen photographic evidence of his honeymoon boom-boom with Kristen Stewart in December’s first installment of ” Breaking Dawn .” But when it comes to Pattinson’s amorous encounters onscreen, his fans can never get enough. It’s no surprise then that one Twitter user submitted a question during “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” asking if the actor felt awkward doing love scenes with “Water for Elephants” co-star Reese Witherspoon. Awkward, no. Sick? Well, yes. “The love scene in this, I was doing it when I had a really bad cold,” Pattinson explained. “I’m not generally that awkward doing stuff apart from when I’ve got my belly coming out. But my nose is running all over the place and it was in one of the additional photography scenes, and Reese had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig.” “We were doing this really passionate love scene,” he added with a giggle. “It was really stupid. I guess I’m not that awkward anymore.” The key with any love scene, Pattinson went on to make clear, is that it has to make sense within the context of the story. You can’t just get freaky in front of the camera because someone thinks it’ll boost ticket sales. “It always depends. You’ve got to really know what you’re doing. If it’s just a sort of arbitrary love scene, it’d be quite difficult,” he said. And what of his scene with Stewart in “Breaking Dawn,” the one we got an early, feather-filled glimpse of in January? Rob hesitated before saying simply, “The one on ‘Breaking Dawn’ is pretty funny.” Check out everything we’ve got on ” Water for Elephants .” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Mel Gibson’s ‘Beaver’: SXSW Premiere Reviews Are In!

Critic calls troubled actor’s performance ‘absurd and darkly unsettling.’ By Eric Ditzian Mel Gibson in “The Beaver” Photo: Summit Entertainment “The Beaver” would have probably been your standard feature film about a suicidal man who uses a hand puppet as a way to better interact with the world around him had its star, Mel Gibson , not uncorked a few hate-filled rants that would ultimately lead to the actor being charged with spousal abuse. To say “The Beaver” entered the South by Southwest film festival with some baggage, then, doesn’t capture the half of it. The spectacle of watching an actor in the midst of a meltdown portray a man in the midst of a meltdown is hard to resist. But it’s going to be a while until the masses get to check out the action, as Summit Entertainment has pushed back the movie’s release date until May. Until then, check out what critics at SXSW had to say after the film’s premiere Wednesday. Getting Past the Spectacle, Part I “Those echoes of Mel Gibson’s well-publicized breakdowns are impossible to ignore in an opening sequence introducing us to his character Walter Black, who first appears floating in a pool, arms outstretched like Christ’s. A few shots later, we see this ‘hopelessly depressed man,’ who has tried everything to remedy his condition, flagellating himself like a Catholic penitent. Whether intentional or not, this front-and-center reminder works almost as an inoculation to viewers for whom controversy might be a distraction from drama: Having put it out there frankly (much as the protagonist will soon do, in more outlandish ways, with his own issues), the movie kills a bit of our morbid curiosity; our awareness that this depressed character is being played by a troubled actor never vanishes, but it is allowed to inform the story at hand.” — John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter Getting Past the Spectacle, Part II “Casting Mel Gibson is both a blessing and a curse. Not since ‘I’m Not There’ have I spent more time during a film having a meta-textual conversation with myself. What were the people on set thinking as they watched Gibson crack? Did making this film help Gibson’s mental health, or make it worse? Truth be told, this extra dimension only aids the film.” — Jordan Hoffman, UGO Mel’s Performance “His solo scenes are both absurd and darkly unsettling for several reasons, some of which depend on your tolerance for watching the notoriously bad-tempered actor, well, lose his temper: Whether awkwardly failing to hang himself in a bathtub or beating himself up with a guitar, Gibson demonstrates an expansive madness that suggests a much darker, more involving psychological transition.” — Eric Kohn, IndieWire The Big Picture, Part I “It may surprise some of you to learn that the story is more of a drama than a comedy. As you might expect, there are comedic moments that come from the puppet’s inclusion in various situations. But the story aims more for drama than comedy. ‘The Beaver’ is too ridiculous to be taken seriously, and too melodramatic to be funny. Foster wrestles to capture the right tones, but the shifts are messy from scene to scene, and it never seems to find the right fit.” — Peter Sciretta, SlashFilm The Big Picture, Part II ” ‘The Beaver’ is not a comedy, it’s true, but it is a deft exploration of the ways we struggle to express something as ineffable as depression, and the lengths we will endure to save our families. It is a potent reminder of why [director] Jodie Foster should have made more movies by now. And it is a strong beginning for screenwriter Kyle Killen.” — Drew McWeeny, HitFix Check out everything we’ve got on “The Beaver.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Megan Fox Reportedly Joining ‘Knocked Up’ Spin-Off

Judd Apatow flick would be Fox’s first studio film since leaving ‘Transformers’ last year. By Eric Ditzian Megan Fox Photo: Jean Baptiste Lacroix/ Getty Images In what would mark her return to studio filmmaking after departing the “Transformers” franchise last May, Megan Fox is reportedly in negotiations to join Judd Apatow’s upcoming Universal comedy . According to The Hollywood Reporter , Fox is eyeing a co-starring role in the project, which is a spin-off of “Knocked Up” and will have Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann reprising their characters from the hit 2007 comedy. Her potential role, at this point, is being kept a secret. MTV News’ request for comment from Fox’s rep was not immediately returned. The production would be Fox’s first studio flick after parting ways with Paramount and “Transformers” last year. At that point, she’d already wrapped “Jonah Hex,” which went on to bomb at the box office, and “Passion Play,” which never received a theatrical release. Since then, she’s stepped in front of the camera for Jennifer Westfeldt’s indie “Friends With Benefits.” At the Oscars last month, Apatow told us the as-yet-untitled comedy was currently in rehearsals and that the story will take place four or five years after the events of “Knocked Up” (though in the vein of “Get Him to the Greek” after “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” the new comedy won’t be a sequel). “The rest is a secret because it doesn’t come out until 2012 and if you already knew what it was about for a year and a half, you wouldn’t even want to see it,” he laughed. We can, however, expect that, as Apatow put it, “some familiar people” will show up in the new flick. Perhaps by now, “Knocked Up” star Seth Rogen has heard if his services will be needed, because when we asked the actor about it in January, he had no idea. “[Judd] mentioned it to me off-handedly a year ago, and then I just read about it just like everybody else. I was like, ‘Oh man, it looks like it’s really happening,’ ” Rogen explained. “So, I don’t know,” he added. “I’m going to call him today and see what the deal is.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

The saga of Kacey Jordan took a tragic turn last night. According to police reports, the porn star – who partied with Charlie Sheen in January and claims she may have aborted the actor’s baby – attempted to kill herself last night. As first reported by TMZ, Chicago police were called to the Peninsula Hotel at 6:51 PM after Jordan Tweeted a slew of suicidal messages that stated she had taken a lot of pills an wanted to die. They found her on a bed, prescription pill bottles in hand, broken glass and alcohol scattered around the room. There were also cuts and scrapes along Kacey’s arms. Police intervened, subdued Jordan and took her to a nearby hospital. She’s resting there now, awaiting further mental evaluations.

Teen Mom Tussle: Amber Portwood "Despises" Jenelle Evans, All She "Stands For"

From one Teen Mom loose cannon to another … some harsh words! If anyone would be sympathetic to the new season’s train wreck Jenelle Evans, you’d think it would be Amber Portwood, who’s had her share of “issues.” Not the case. Instead of reaching out to Jenelle, Amber says she “despises” Evans’ wild ways, calling her an “idiot” whose situation is nothing like her own. “I pretty much despise what she stands for,” Amber Portwood says. Jenelle Evans (left) shouldn’t expect any support from Amber Portwood . “She’s an idiot and I don’t care if people know or not,” she adds . “I literally have worked my ass off because of this whole battery thing to make sure I keep my daughter. They [MTV] shouldn’t put her on, it’s embarrassing!” Tell us how you really feel, Ambs. In all seriousness, Jenelle is unfit to be a mom , a fact that she admits. That fact and her perceived apathy are likely what irks the “passionate” Amber. What Jenelle “stands for” in Amber’s mind is not giving a $h!t. That’s our take. We’re not saying Portwood should talk, but that’s where she’s coming from. Evans’ baby Jace is being taken care of by Jenelle’s own mom, Barbara. That woman seems borderline insane in her own right, but it’s an improvement. Jenelle will appear in court April 14, on charges relating to her arrest for alleged breaking and entering and marijuana possession back in October 2010. Portwood faces felony battery charges for her televised attack on her baby girl’s father, Gary Shirley. Maybe they can split the legal bills or something. In the meantime, Amber is fighting Gary like hell to keep her daughter while Jenelle stumbles around hung over and kalls out Kim Kardashian . Good times.

Lady Gaga Designs Bracelet For Japan Disaster Relief

Lady Gaga is reaching out to her Little Monsters to help support tsunami victims in Japan . Appropriately, she’s doing so with a fashionable twist. She designed a simple white and red bracelet, with the phrase “We Pray for Japan” in both English and Japanese. All proceeds go to relief efforts. The singer Tweeted: “I Designed a Japan Prayer Bracelet. Buy It/Donate here and ALL proceeds will go to Tsunami Relief Efforts. Go Monsters!” She’s off the wall with fashion, but on the ball when it comes to charity . Gaga’s bracelet costs a modest $5, but the Mother Monster encouraged her legions of followers – eight million on Twitter alone – to donate more if they can. Of course, there will be critics claiming “she’s only doing it for publicity” another such nonsense. But it’s always nice to see celebs using their fame for good. Alec Baldwin Offers Advice to Charlie Sheen: Beg!

The same man who cracks us up each week with dry-witted 30 Rock quotes has grown (somewhat) serious when it comes to Charlie Sheen’s career. In an editorial for The Huffington Post , based on his own experiences with executives in the movie and TV business, Baldwin addresses the troubled actor and says: “You can’t win. Really. You can’t.” Meaning what, exactly? Baldwin gives us a look inside the industry and continues: “No actor is greater than the show itself when the show is a hit. And, in that regard, [executives] are often right. Add to that the fact that the actor who is torturing their diseased egos is a drug-addled, porn star-squiring, near-Joycean Internet ranter, and they really want you to go.” Baldwin is correct that almost all hit shows remain popular and profitable after stars leave. Look at NYPD Blue , ER , CSI . In the end, here’s what Sheen should do, according to Baldwin: “Sober up, Charlie. And get back on TV, if it’s not too late. This is America. You want to really piss off Chuck and Warner Brothers and CBS? Beg for America’s forgiveness. They will give it to you. And then go back. You are a great television star… As I learned from closely observing Tony Bennett so I could impersonate him on SNL , this is supposed to be fun. P.S… buy Cryer a really nice car.” [Photos: Fame, WENN.com]

Mel Gibson Reaches A Plea Deal In Battery Case

Actor must complete 16 hours of community service and enroll in a 12-month domestic-violence program. By Jayson Rodriguez Mel Gibson arrives at the Los Angeles Courthouse Airport branch on Friday Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images Mel Gibson and his legal team reached a deal with prosecutors Friday (March 11) that will see the actor avoid jail time after being charged with misdemeanor battery earlier in the day. The actor appeared before a Los Angles judge and pleaded no contest to the charges. Under the terms of his agreement, Gibson must complete 16 hours of community service, enroll in a 12-month domestic-violence program and pay an assortment of court fees and fines. Gibson also must obey a strict order to not annoy, harass or threaten anyone with violence while serving out his various punishments. The actor has already begun reporting to a domestic-violence counselor and was ordered to submit a progress report during a status hearing June 9. By that date, the actor is also required to compete his community service, which he’s scheduled to perform at the Mending Kids International facility. Gibson’s deadline to complete his year of counseling is March 30, 2012. The actor has 36 hours to turn himself in for booking. The deal concludes an ugly split between Gibson and ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his young daughter. The two dated briefly after Gibson and his wife of 26 years, Robyn, separated. Gibson and Grigorieva were ensnarled in a bitter custody dispute that was compounded by lawsuits the two filed against each other. Gibson accused Grigorieva of extortion and she alleged Gibson physically assaulted her.
