Ben Affleck Talks Congo to Congress

While his BFF continues to express disappointment in Barack Obama , Ben Affleck also stepped into the political arena this week, testifying before the House Africa, Global Health & Human Rights Subcommittee. The actor, who founded the Eastern Congo Initiative, stated his case regarding the central African country, which is mired in violence, and why America must do more. “If we continue to place Congo on the back burner of U.S. policy, it will come back to haunt us,” Affleck said. “The last time Congo collapsed, armies came in from across Africa and five million people died… We must learn from history.” The Oscar winner is asking Congress to protect Congolese civilians from ongoing attacks. He wants the U.S. to offer support in this November’s elections and to appoint a representative to the Great Lakes region of central Africa. “This is an ambitious agenda, but it can be accomplished,” Affleck said. “The federal budget may be seen as a zero sum game but our morality, our sense of decency, our compassion for our fellow human beings, is not.” Cindy McCain, a member of Affleck’s nonprofit organization, has joined the actor in his fight.

Jason Bateman Calls ‘Arrested Development’ Movie Plot ‘Incredible’

‘It’s everything you would want it to be and more,’ actor tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jason Bateman Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Despite David Cross’ hilariously pessimistic outlook on the possibility of an “Arrested Development” movie, exec producer Ron Howard wasn’t kidding when he told MTV News that an adaptation of the TV series is “a real priority” for creator Mitch Hurwitz. How do we know? Well, aside from just really, really hoping he wasn’t kidding, Jason Bateman recently tossed us some info that indicates Hurwitz is very much plowing forward with a script — five years after the show’s cancellation. “For the very first time, [Hurwitz] sat me down last week to talk about what he’s got and where he’s going and what do I think,” Bateman told us while promoting his upcoming comedy “Paul.” “As a fan of the show, I was vibrating with excitement that he was pulling me behind the curtain.” Mind you, Bateman still hasn’t seen a single page of a script, but the mere fact that he had a meeting about the project was enough to encourage the actor that, at long last, an “Arrested” movie will actually become a reality. “I can confirm what his update was, which was that he is very deep into the work on it,” Bateman said. “The odds of him getting it done before the end of the year, as he says he wants to, are good.” So, um, what did Hurwitz actually dish about the story line? Bateman didn’t let any details slip out other than to say the concept is “incredible.” “It’s everything you would want it to be and more,” he added. “I really hope he finishes soon so we have a shot at doing it before the end of the year.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Paul.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Charlie Sheen Hints at Two and a Half Men Return

If a man who rambles on about Adonis DNA and warlock tendencies can be believed, Charlie Sheen might end up back on Two and a Half Men after all. Calling into The Chio & Shila Show yesterday, the actor opened the interview by sounding like his usual, successful self : “My super powers are blowing it up completely… I think were winning this morning.” After a bad connection forced Sheen to call back, he made it clear that he’s largely in on the running joke he’s created, telling the hosts: “What did you all do in that missing ten seconds without me? Did it feel like your lives had ended?” Getting down to business, though, Sheen was asked about the state of his sitcom and said “it feels like all parties” are nearing an understanding, concluding: “Absolutely the gig’s coming back, I have absolute faith in that.” Do you want Sheen back on the show?
