Al Pacino, Joe Pesci May Join De Niro/Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’

Actors are reportedly considering roles in movie about mob assassin Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran. By Adam Rosenberg Al Pacino Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images Robert De Niro is re-teaming with “Goodfellas” and “Casino” director Martin Scorsese for a project that is equal parts mob movie and Federico Fellini-inspired dream reality. Called “The Irishman” and based on the book “I Heard You Paint Houses,” De Niro told MTV’s Josh Horowitz in April that some plans were cooking to perhaps divide the film into two parts. There’s been no additional news on that front, but the project is inching closer to reality with today’s possible casting news. Al Pacino and Joe Pesci are reportedly “circling” roles in “The Irishman,” according to a Deadline report. Scorsese is currently working on the 3-D film “Hugo Cabret,” starring Chloe Moretz, Jude Law, Emily Mortimer and Ben Kingsley. “Irishman” is one of several possible projects he could move on to next. The book “I Heard You Paint Houses” focuses on the life of mob assassin Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, the supposed killer of Jimmy Hoffa and Joe Gallo. The movie’s script comes from Steve Zaillian, though De Niro told MTV in April that Eric Roth (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”) is writing as well, for the potential two-film idea. In De Niro’s words: “We have a more ambitious idea, hopefully, to make it a two-part type of film or two films. It’s an idea that came about from Eric Roth to combine these movies using the footage from ‘Paint Houses’ to do another kind of a [film that is] reminiscent of a kind of ‘8 1/2,’ ‘La Dolce Vita,’ [a] certain kind of biographical, semi-biographical type of Hollywood movie — a director and the actor — based on things Marty and I have experienced and kind of overlapping them.” “La Dolce Vita” and “8 1/2” are works of the late, great Italian filmmaker, Federico Fellini. The latter film is a semi-autobiographical work about a director who is laboring over an elaborate sci-fi production. The story is peppered with flashbacks and dreamscapes that enter into the director’s present-day reality. MTV speculated in April that a similar plan could be in the works with Roth, particularly given the long history of mob films that Scorsese and De Niro have done together. Pacino and De Niro have teamed before, for Michael Mann’s “Heat” and Jon Avent’s “Righteous Kill.” Pesci and De Niro have worked together as well, with Scorsese, on the classics “Goodfellas,” “Casino” and “Raging Bull.” “The Irishman” would mark the first time the foursome have worked together in one movie. Andrew Garfield Talks to Movieline About Never Let Me Go, Spider-Man, and ‘Death Around the Corner’

Andrew Garfield’s lunch arrived before he did this afternoon in Toronto: a light salad with chicken and broccoli, vinaigrette on the side, and six slices of tomatoes. Digging into the greens, one of the journalists gathered to discuss Garfield’s new film Never Let Me Go asked if this was actually the Spider-Man diet. “It’s food that I’m eating,” the actor replied. “So yes.” And so continued the enduring push-pull between the 27-year-old’s smoldering, carefully cultivated dramatic presence and his future as the Great White Blockbuster Hope.

Justin Bieber Talks ‘CSI’ Cameo

The pop star is looking forward to reaching new audiences on the crime drama’s September 23 premiere. By James Dinh Justin Bieber appears on “CSI” Photo: CBS While he may cause a little mischief now and then , Justin Bieber is far more wholesome than the troubled teen he plays on the season premiere of “CSI.” In a behind-the-scenes video that also contains a few teaser clips from the September 23 episode, the pop star and “CSI” actor George Eads talk about working together. The teen sensation said he was confident that his legion of Bieliebers would enjoy the premiere — as well as the episode later in the season that would find him reprising his role as Jason McCann. “It’s going to be fun. There’s two episodes that I’m doing. It’s high energy,” he said. Bieber said that he has always been a fan of the show, as well as its spinoffs. “I liked it because you never knew what was going to happen. Now that I’m on it, it’s pretty cool,” he said. He added that his cameo would be boundary-crossing for both him and the show. “It opens a different audience to the show,” he said, “and it also helps me because a new audience that might not know me is now going to see me. So it works both ways.” The singer noted that working with Eads, who plays forensic scientist Nick Stokes, was his favorite part of the process. Eads returned the compliments. “He’s very popular and I know he’s very gifted,” said the actor. “But I think it’ll be cool for fans of his and the show to see him do some acting. And I’m kind of getting in his face, so it’s really cool.” The character of Jason, who the pop star describes as “kind of like a bad kid,” gets in Stokes’ face as well. In one scene, Jason tries to flip the script on an interrogation, asking Stokes, “Where’s your gun, your vest, your badge? You off work or something?” Another scene shows the teen watching a grueling fight. While Bieber says he had a little trouble remembering his lines, he definitely gave Eads a good first impression. “I told him, ‘Sorry we have to rehearse so many times,’ and he goes, ‘No, that’s all right. I’m a perfectionist,’ ” the actor recalled. If the “CSI” cameo doesn’t cure fans’ Bieber fever, they can look forward to seeing the pop star on the big screen in 2011, when his 3-D concert movie hits theaters .
