Gentleman-thug enforcer Martin Donovan has been sent to bring loner James Franco to his boss, slick gangster Josh Lucas, in NYU professor Jay Anania ‘s indie drama Shadows & Lies . But Franco’s eating a sandwich, and you don’t want to bother Franco when he’s eating a sandwich. “Are you muscling me?” asks Franco’s William Vincent. “You’d know if I was,” replies Donovan. 9 Possible ‘Surprise Endings’ for Disney’s Little Mermaid Ride

Disney’s California Adventure amusement park, located right next door to Disneyland, is in the middle of a $1 billion renovation. The first major addition is a new “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure” ride, which opened yesterday with the help of Ariel’s original voice actress Jodi Benson, who performed “Part of Your World” for parkgoers. The ride whisks passengers past scenes from the movie and concludes with an as-yet-undisclosed “surprise ending.” What could that surprise be? We have nine guesses.

REVIEW: McAvoy and Fassbender Are First-Rate in X-Men: First Class

X-Men: First Class wants to be five movies at once, and it occasionally succeeds at being a few of them: One minute it’s a stylish James Bond-style retro pleaser, the next a bitter-edged revenge melodrama, the next your boilerplate “embrace individuality” empowerment brief. It is also, of course, a movie based on a comic-book franchise — in this case, Marvel’s long-running, multi-tentacled X-Men saga — and for that reason alone, it comes with a million other expectations attached. I don’t know what director in his right mind would want to take on such a project, but I admire Matthew Vaughn for trying.

We have an entire summer to prepare for the scares of Guillermo del Toro’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark , the horror movie with a truly creepy, whisper-filled trailer and good-looking victims like Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce. Star Wars Prequels Finally Explained In This Fake George Lucas Conspiracy Theory Trailer

Some loyal Star Wars fans believe that the only possible explanation for George Lucas’s disappointing prequels is that the actual director was kidnapped and held hostage while an evil impostor George Lucas directed Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman in the less-than-enthusiastically received trilogy. Now, those fans have made a trailer for a fake film called George Lucas Strike Back , in which the director escapes his jail cell and avenges Episode I with the help of Steven Spielberg, Chewie and Princess Leia.

Red Tails Director Reveals Release Date

Suddenly, the dormant George Lucas-produced Red Tails — an actioner about the Tuskegee Airmen — is back on the slate: Director Anthony Hemingway revealed on Twitter that the movie will hit theaters in January 2012. That’s not official yet, per se, but it’s enough to get me excited for the Cuba Gooding Jr. Comeback Tour! Bad Movies We Love: Shanghai Surprise

I tried so hard to find an Oprah-themed Bad Movie We Love this week. Bad news, my darlings: they’re all not good enough. Beloved is too boring, Native Son is too serious, and The Color Purple is too funny. (Trust me.) So I rallied and made big choices. This week I’m commemorating Tree of Life star Sean Penn’s filthy past and Oprah’s biggest finale guest : the ineffable, the insufferable, La Sleaza Bonita herself, Madonna. Read: THIS IS A GREAT DAY. And the movie is a legend among awful, latrine-stink cinema, a rancid little misfortune cookie called Shanghai Surprise . Or as I prefer to call it: Not-So-Fast Times with Frigid Wife .

Fox Searchlight Will Release Partial Little Miss Sunshine Reunion

At least some of the gang is officially reunited! Deadline reports that Fox Searchlight will distribute the previously announced He Loves Me , the first film from co-directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris since Little Miss Sunshine earned multiple millions (and Oscar nominations) for the studio in 2006. Keeping with the reunion theme, Paul Dano co-stars, but — as of now — he’s the only Sunshine actor in the cast. On the upside: Jeff Bridges is being discussed for another role. Sorry, Alan Arkin!
