Before Jennifer Lopez can critique American Idol contestants this season, we’re here to judge the singer and her style at last night’s Golden Globe Awards. As she tries to climb back on to the A-list, J. Lo showed up at the event and handed out hardware alongside Alec Baldwin. Jennifer Love Hewitt, meanwhile, was also present because she was actually nominated for a Golden Globe. No, seriously! Alas, she lost out to Claire Danes in the category of Best Actress in a Television Movie. But could JLH make up for that loss with a victory in the following poll? You tell us.

‘The Green Hornet’ Buzzes To Top Of Weekend Box Office

Seth Rogen’s action comedy stings its way to first place, while Vince Vaughn and Kevin James’ ‘The Dilemma’ settles for second. By Josh Wigler “The Green Hornet” Photo: Sony Pictures Seth Rogen as a superhero? Michel Gondry directing a big-budget mainstream action flick? If you had asked a handful of movies fan a year ago whether those were good or bad ideas, most would probably lean toward the latter. Well, those same fans would be wearing green egg all over their faces today, as Rogen and Gondry’s “The Green Hornet” had a sharp enough sting to easily win first place at the box office this past weekend. The Sony Pictures action comedy overcame years filled with bad buzz to rake in $34 million during its first weekend in theaters. It’s not an astounding number given the production budget behind “Green Hornet,” but the action-packed and gut-bursting story of pals Britt Reid (Rogen) and Kato (Jay Chou) seems to have the kind of longevity that could sustain itself over the next couple of weeks. Indeed, the only action competition it faces over the next month are “The Mechanic” and “I Am Number Four,” the first of which premieres in two weeks while the latter arrives toward the end of February. That still gives plenty of time for “The Green Hornet” to leave its mark at the box office. “The Dilemma,” the controversial Ron Howard-directed comedy starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James, followed behind with $17.4 million in second place. Vaughn- and James-led films typically perform a lot higher — “Grown Ups” secured $40.5 million in its opening weekend in 2010 while “Couples Retreat” snagged $34.3 in 2009, and with the added ingredient of an Oscar-winning director at the helm, it’s a bit curious that the comedy didn’t meet the two leading men’s usual standards. “True Grit” continued to blaze forward on the ol’ dusty trail with a third-place finish that brings the Coen brothers Western’s grand total up to $127.4 million. Rounding out the weekend’s top five performers were “The King’s Speech” in fourth place and “Black Swan” in fifth, solid results that come hot on the heels of their respective wins for Best Actor (Colin Firth) and Best Actress (Natalie Portman) at the 2011 Golden Globes . The Box-Office Top Five #1 “The Green Hornet” ($34 million) #2 “The Dilemma” ($17.4 million) #3 “True Grit” ($11.2 million) #4 “The King’s Speech” ($9.1 million) #5 “Black Swan” ($8.1 million) Upcoming Releases Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher have “No Strings Attached” at the box office next weekend, while Ed Harris and Colin Farrell search for “The Way Back” in Peter Weir’s new film. ‘Glee’ Wins Big At Golden Globes

Musical show takes home Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical, plus two acting awards. By Aly Semigran he cast of “Glee” backstage at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage For the second year in a row, “Glee” has had something to sing about at the Golden Globes. Fox’s pop-culture smash has emerged victorious yet again in the Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical category. In addition to besting the hit shows “Modern Family,” “Nurse Jackie,” “The Big C,” “The Big Bang Theory” and “30 Rock,” two of the show’s stars have taken home their first Golden Globe awards. While the show did not sweep — both Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison lost in their categories — it did win more awards than any other television show at the 68th annual Golden Globes. Stunned first-time nominee Chris Colfer kicked things off for “Glee” with his heartfelt speech, which he dedicated to his “fairy godfather Ryan Murphy” and to teens who, much like his character Kurt, are bullied. “The amazing kids that watch our show and that our show celebrates and are constantly told no [by] people and environments and bullies at school, that they can’t be who they are or can’t have what they want because of who they are,” he said, concluding his acceptance speech with, “Screw that, kids.” Next up was Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television winner Jane Lynch. The actress, who has now won a Golden Globe, Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award for her work on the show, had lost to “Big Love” actress Chlo

Ricky Gervais kicked off the 2011 Golden Globe Awards by staying true to his vow to be more subversive than he was a year ago. Just ask Tom Cruise and John Travolta, at whom the comedian aimed this opening joke: “Also not nominated was I Love You Philip Morris , Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. Two heterosexual characters pretending to be gay. So the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists, then… Probably. My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke. They’re not here.” And with that… the show was off! “I#39;m engaged,” Kaley Cuoco, 25, said, pausing as the E! host happily congratulated her. Then, she clarified: “I#39;d like you to know who I#39;m engaged to – Chopard, the jewelry designer.” Kaley Cuoco made a big announcement on the red carpet at Sunday#39;s Golden Globes: The Big Bang Theory star told Ryan Seacrest she was engaged – then she took it back. ‘Green Hornet’ Flies Past Friday Box-Office Competition

Slacker superhero flick scores $11.1 million first day in theaters. By Mawuse Ziegbe Seth Rogen and Jay Chou in “The Green Hornet” Photo: Sony Pictures “The Green Hornet” flew into theaters with a big Friday debut. Seth Rogen’s turn as California rich kid turned baddie-battling vigilante scored $11.1 million its first day in theaters. The sizable Friday haul is presumably a reassuring figure for co-writer and star Seth Rogen, who battled tons of e-hate from fans of the masked hero in the time leading up to the film’s release. “It’s something that [writing partner] Evan [Goldberg] would constantly have to remind me of throughout the process, in that this is kind of exactly what we thought would happen,” Rogen told MTV News recently. “From the second we thought of doing a movie like this, I remember talking about it like, ‘Everyone’s going to think it’s going to be insane and terrible and we’ll just have to keep our heads down and make it, and then it’ll come out and then people will slowly see that we weren’t nuts and that it was actually a good idea.’ ” Behind “Hornet” is another funnyman vehicle, “The Dilemma,” starring Kevin James and Vince Vaughn. The comedy about a guy who’s forced to decide whether to inform his best buddy that his seemingly perfect wife is creeping, debuted with $6.1 million in ticket sales. The Hollywood heavyweight-packed Western “True Grit” kicked off the weekend in third place. Featuring Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges and recent Critics’ Choice Movie Award-winner Hailee Steinfeld, the Coen brothers’ latest epic picked up $3.2 million. Friday’s figure kicks the action flick’s total estimated tally to about $118 million. “The King’s Speech,” which features newly minted Critics’ Choice-winner Colin Firth, won the fourth-place slot. The true story of a reluctant royal’s game-changing wartime address nabbed $2.44 million — a number which boosts the film’s total estimated gross to nearly $38 million. The dance drama “Black Swan,” which features Critics’ Choice Best Actress Natalie Portman, took the fifth-place spot after being slightly outpaced by “Speech.” The flick rang up $2.42 million on Friday, just thousands of dollars behind the Firth vehicle. Tree of Life Will Include Many Shots of Wind, Says Cinematographer

Unlike most of the Internet, Movieline HQ was a tad underwhelmed with the first trailer for Terrence Malick’s long-awaited Tree of Life , if only because it didn’t really show much beyond the beautiful visuals. Though to hear cinematographer Emanuel “Chivo” Lubezki tell the LA Times , that might be by design. “So the actors are performing the dialogue, but Terry isn’t interested in dialogue,” said Lubezki. “So they’re talking, and we’re shooting a reflection or we’re shooting the wind or we’re shooting the frame of the window, and then we finally pan to them when they finish the dialogue.” And how did the actors react to this? “I think they thought we were insane. Sean [Penn] is a director, and I’m sure he wondered ‘Is this method something I want to learn or is it something I never want to repeat?’ For Brad [Pitt] I think it took him a couple of days or a week to get into the spirit.” Get into the spirit, folks!
