La La Land is one of the most successful movies of the year. It's evident that it's going to be a force to be reckoned with at the 2017 Academy Awards. But will it win EVERYthing? Scroll down for our predictions. 1. Best Picture: La La Land La La Land has been critically and commercially successful since it was released and for good reason. It has already racked up a string of awards and nominations. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone have this one in the can. 2. Best Director: La La Land Damien Chazelle is up against some stiff competition in this category, but there’s no denying that La La Land was a visual masterpiece. He should have no trouble eking out the win. 3. Best Actor: Casey Affleck The only real competition in this category is between Casey Affleck and Denzel Washington. With Casey’s continued praise, he seems poised to take the win. 4. Best Actress: Emma Stone Emma turned in a riveting performance in La La Land. In fact, she turns in a perfect performance whichever movie she appears in. Trust us, this one is as slam dunk as they come. 5. Best Supporting Actor: Dev Patel Patel has come a long way since his days of playing an angsty teen on Skins. He should win this award for his performance in Lion. 6. Best Supporting Actress: Viola Davis Viola is an awards darling who continues to move from a successful movie to another. Remember when everyone couldn’t get enough of “Blurred Lines”, and Robin Thicke was thought to be the Next Big Thing? How a couple years, a reputation-damaging lawsuit, a cheating scandal, and a seriously ugly divorce can change things. Not long after Thicke blew up as the one-hit wonder of 2013, his carefully crafted public image began to fall apart. Thicke’s wife, Paula Patton, filed for divorce , citing the singer’s infidelity, drug use, and abusive behavior toward herself and her son. These days, Thicke and Patton are battling for custody of 6-year-old Julian, and it seems that every time they square off in court the actress levels a shocking new allegation against her former husband. In early January, she accused Thicke of beating her repeatedly throughout their marriage. Later in the month, at a second hearing, she told the court that she could not allow for unsupervised visits, as she had witnessed Thicke abusing her son on more than one occasion. Now, Thicke is fighting for the right to spend time with his son without a court-appointed monitor present. Sources close to the case say Patton is doing everything in her power to convince the court that Thicke is a threat to young Julian’s safety. “Robin wants to spend as much time as possible with Julian, and he was upset because the monitor was trying to cut his visit time short, so his team went and filed to change to a new monitor, which was denied,” an insider tells People magazine. Thicke insists that there’s no need for supervised visits, telling the court “I have never done anything to harm Julian, and I never would.” The court found in Patton’s favor, and denied Thicke’s request for unsupervised visits. Patton’s team tells People, that she could have denied him visitation rights altogether, but chose to allow supervised visits for the sake of her son: “Paula did not have to request that the court grant Robin court-appointed monitored visits with Julian three days a week but did so with the belief that maintaining a relationship with the father in the presence of a monitor to ensure his safety and well-being would be in Julian’s long-term best interest,” says a member of Patton’s legal team. Thicke says his request for unsupervised visits was prompted by a recent incident in which the court’s monitor unexpectedly ended a visit between father and son a full six hours early. Thicke says he fought the decision until the monitor “indicated that [he] really did not have a choice.”

How many babies are Ben and Jessa Seewald expecting? Last night, Counting On Season 3 Episode 2 finally answered that burning question among card carrying members of Duggar Nation. If you watch Jill & Jessa Counting On online , you know that twins run in her family. Jessa’s mom Michelle Duggar had two pair, in fact. It’s also no secret that Jessa and Ben Seewald love hyping up their pregnancy reveals, so this storyline was part for the course. They attempted, with the assistance of Jill, to find out if it’s twins. Jill asked, “Well Jess, do you want to listen to your little baby’s heartbeat?” Jill, who’s trained as a midwife, admitted that she gets some enjoyment out of this as well: “It’s fun to get my hands on her belly.” Jessa couldn’t help but smile widely. “I haven’t really been showing so it’s nice to know there’s a baby in there,” the 18-weeks-pregnant TLC star laughed. “I’m not just sick!” “Not having an ultrasound, we don’t know if it’s twins,” Jessa added. “We think it’s one, [but] you never know” until you know. Twins or not, “this pregnancy has been different than my first pregnancy in many ways,” Jessa opened up during a confessional interview. “I’ve had way more food aversions and certain things like coffee, chicken, popcorn, random things – we couldn’t even have them in the house.” “I didn’t have that with Spurgeon.” “Ben and I both feel like it’s a boy,” she adds. “I don’t know why. When we found out we were expecting, we both just thought it was a boy!” Boy or girl, twins or not, the latest Duggar is scheduled to arrive next month, and the couple is over the moon about the new arrival. And likely the fact that they just milked material for almost an entire episode of their reality show without making any significant reveals. That takes talent, people. If we’ve learned anything watching the Duggars over the years, it’s that they love pickles as much as they hate full-frontal hard core hugging. A LOT, to say the absolute least. Fittingly, then, Jinger Duggar made plans to have a “relish bar” (i.e. trays of pickles) on her wedding day, when the side hugs cease! With an expected 1,200 guests, that means an a– ton of pickles, cheese, crackers, meatballs, coffee and more to serve the people. Showing her sense of humor, Jinger pranked Jeremy on FaceTime, saying she was going to sing to him while they lit their unity candle. Jeremy paused awkwardly before Jinger and her sisters broke down and revealed that they’d pulled one over on the pastor from Texas. We would pay to see that. Laugh if you want, but Flame has built up a nice following. The friendship Ben and Jessa have with the rapper and his wife may also be why Seewald has developed a reputation for being “woke.” “I’m probably not going to have a career in music,” Ben admitted, having tried his hand in the studio at one point. “At least, not rapping.” “Personally, I think Ben is pretty good at spittin’ some bars,” Jessa said, with a degree of sarcasm and massive amounts of street cred. Lack of talent aside, that doesn’t mean they can’t be fans, though, and Ben, Jessa and Spurge decided to go see Flame perform live. Don’t worry, Spurge had noise-canceling headphones. There’s disagreement about the reasons behind her stint in the Tennessee facility, but regardless of what prompted her to seek helps, the consensus in the therapeutic community is that the singer is still in an extremely vulnerable spot. Perhaps that’s why Selena’s fans, friends, and family are so concerned by the news that the young singer is dating The Weeknd . You don’t have to be up on the latest tabloid drama surrounding The Weeknd (real name: Abel Tesfaye) to know that the wildly talented 26-year-old is frequently associated with clubbing and hard drug use. Tesfaye’s biggest hit, 2015’s “Can’t Feel My Face” is basically an extended cocaine metaphor, and while he’s reportedly scaled back the partying in recent years, he’s also coyly admitted that some of his vices remain. It’s not hard to see why many of her loved ones feel that Selena’s relationship with The Weeknd is poorly timed, at best. “Some of Selena’s close friends and family want to stage an intervention before it’s too late,” a source close to the 24-year-old pop star told Radar. “They fear that this is going to end well.” The source adds that Selena’s inner circle has made an effort to convince her to hold off on the relationship until she’s in a more stable place in her life. Thus far, it seems their pleas are falling on deaf ears: “Everyone has tried to step in at different points in Selena’s life but after so many ups and downs a lot of people close to her are just kind of at a loss as to what to do,” says the insider. “She tells everyone to mind their own business and that it is her life. She is going to do what she wants to do.” It doesn’t look like Gomez will be reconsidering her position any time soon. Sources say she already appears to have fallen harder for Tesfaye than she ever did for her most famous ex, Justin Bieber. Let’s just hope she can embrace the relationship without falling back into any of her old habits.
Finally, 2017 offers some good news for folks of a liberal/progressive slant, as it looks like there won’t be a need to trot out the # OscarsSoWhite hashtag again this year. The nominees of the 89th Academy Awards were announced this morning, and many were pleased to find that four of the nine Best Picture candidates feature people of color in the lead role. Of course, the leading contender for the night’s biggest prize remains La La Land, which tied the record for most nominations for a single film with an astonishing 14. This year’s notable snubs include Amy Adams – who many thought was a lock for her role in Arrival – Martin Scorsese, Taraji P. Henson, and Deadpool – a hopeful underdog in several categories. Clearly, Hilary Duff is not one to wallow in heartbreak for very long. Just a few months after her divorce from Mike Comrie , the actress moved on with a new man. Duff began dating Jason Walsh back in October, but now it looks as though that relationship has already fizzled. Now, Hilary has moved on yet again, this time with singer Matthew Koma. Koma and Duff were spotted on a coffee date in Century City, California yesterday. Koma is a solo artist with a decent-ish Twitter following (146,000 – sure to spike once news of his new relationship spreads), but his Wikipedia page reveals some puzzling gaps in his resume. The 29-year-old has yet to release his debut album, but he has two EPs to his name. The strange thing is that the most recent came out almost four years ago. In the meantime, Koma appears to have written songs for other artists, including an ode to Taylor Swift, recorded by a band called The Knocks, that praises Swift as “a boss and so legit.” No, we haven’t listened to it, but with lyrics like that, we kinda feel like we don’t have to, ya know? Anyway, we’re not saying Koma is using Duff to give his career a boost, we just hope she’s generally on the look out for that sort of thing. As long as she’s been in the industry, we’re guessing she can spot a coattail rider a mile away. There’s no word on just how serious Hilary and Matt are, but onlookers say they made no effort to hide the fact that they were on a date. No word on whether or not any full-blown canoodling took place. Ironically, when Hilary comments on her love life, it’s usually to claim that she’s a bit of a loner, who enjoys the single life. “I’ve never been a good dater,” Duff told Cosmo earlier this month. “I meet, like, one person a year that I’m maybe attracted to. I never want to be that girl who’s desperate to find a mate.” We guess Matt’s the guy for 2017. Make the most of it, you lucky SOB!
We think we speak for all television viewers when we say the following: FINALLY!!!!!!!!! Following a hiatus that lasted way too long, Scandal Season 6 will finally kick off on ABC on Thursday, January 26. The series took an extended break between the spring and this winter due to star Kerry Washington's real-life pregnancy. So Ellen DeGeneres figured that Washington needed some practice prior to reprising her beloved role as Olivia Pope on this addictive new drama, inviting the actress on her talk show for a game of “Speak Out.” This basically involved Washington putting a piece of plastic inside her mouth and trying to … well… speak out. In coherent fashion. And it involved Ellen having to guess what the heck Washington is saying. Before asking readers to hit PLAY on the following video in order to see this hilarious back-and-forth in action, we had to get at least try to give fans a few Scandal spoilers prior to the show's big return. “It's worth the wait,” Washington told Ellen during their taping, referring to the election that happens on the show. “In the first 10 minutes you will find out who won and who lost.” We can't wait!
