And you thought it wasn’t safe in YOUR hood. Try living in the Indian village of Prakash Nagar, where a leopard on the loose mauled six people Tuesday before it was finally brought down by officials shooting tranquilizer darts. That picture speaks volumes! Dude was SHOOK WILSON… and we don’t blame him one bit. Photos captured of the incident show the spotted leopard in full attack mode as forest guards tried to subdue the animal, all while crowds of villagers watched in horror. According to officials the wild cat had strayed into a densely populated part of the city when it went on the offensive after crowds started to gather. Several attempts were made before the guards were finally able to shoot the adult leopard with a tranquilizer dart. Watch the video below and check out lots more photos:
Singer will co-produce ‘Stick Fly,’ a play about an affluent black family in Martha’s Vineyard, will open in December. By Gil Kaufman Alicia Keys Photo: Gatwitch Ltd Since releasing her debut, Songs in A Minor, 10 years ago, Alicia Keys has achieved plenty of landmarks in her life: two armloads of Grammys, a successful movie career and, recently, motherhood . But the “Fallin’ ” singer is still pushing into new territory with her latest project, co-producing the Broadway premiere of the play “Stick Fly.” The critically acclaimed work by Lydia R. Diamond will open on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre in December, with previews beginning on November 18. “This is a story that everybody can relate to,” said Keys in a statement announcing her participation in the venture. “I’m passionate about this play because it is so beautifully written and portrays Black America in a way that we don’t often get to see in entertainment. I know it will touch all audiences, who will find a piece of themselves somewhere inside this house.” “Stick Fly” tells the story of the LeVays, an affluent black family gathering at their Martha’s Vineyard home to spend a summer weekend together. According to a description, “the adult sons, aspiring novelist Kent and golden boy plastic surgeon Flip, have each brought their respective ladies (one black and one white) to meet the parents. Food, drink and Trivial Pursuit tangle with class, race and identity politics in this contemporary comedy of manners.” Casting has not yet been announced for the Broadway production, which has garnered a number of awards since is premiere at Chicago’s Congo Square Theatre in 2006. Keys is balancing this latest project with the reissue of A Minor on Tuesday (June 28) and a mini-tour celebrating the album’s 10th anniversary. The singer told MTV News that caring for 8-months-old son Egypt has actually made her a better artist. “I feel like I’m definitely more creative,” she said of her life since motherhood. “I’m more thoughtful about my plans and the things that I do, so overall everything is like a hundred times better.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Alicia Keys Related Artists Alicia Keys
‘Bad Teacher,’ starring Cameron Diaz, makes a strong showing at #2, with ‘Green Lantern’ following behind at #3. By Ryan J. Downey “Cars 2” Photo: Disney “Cars 2” may be the worst-reviewed movie in Pixar’s storied history, but that didn’t stop the animated sequel from maintaining the studio’s streak of box-office number ones. The second entry in the merchandise-friendly franchise took in $68 million over the weekend, according to distributor Walt Disney Studios, making it Pixar’s 12th consecutive movie to debut atop the box-office charts. Thanks to higher ticket prices and expensive 3-D screenings, “Cars 2” enjoyed the fifth-biggest opening for a Pixar film ever. In terms of attendance, however, the “Cars 2” debut was ahead of only “A Bug’s Life,” “Ratatouille” and the beloved company’s first feature film, 1995’s “Toy Story.” The 3-D fatigue evidenced by other recent openings continued as a mere 40 percent of moviegoers chose to see “Cars 2” in that format (versus the 60 percent who opted to see “Toy Story 3” in 3-D). “Bad Teacher,” the weekend’s other new wide release, debuted at #2 with $31 million. It was a strong showing for the reportedly low-budget Cameron Diaz vehicle, which industry watchers had predicted would be less well-received. Debuting the adult-oriented comedy against the family-oriented “Cars 2” was apparently a wise choice on the part of Sony Pictures, who released the film. Warner Bros., meanwhile, watched “Green Lantern” drop 66 percent in its second weekend of release. A sequel was already in development before Ryan Reynolds hit the screen as the DC Comics hero, but there has been little news about those plans since its lukewarm debut. “Lantern” made $18.4 million over the weekend for an $89.3 million total. With an estimated production budget of $200 million and a major marketing campaign behind it, “Green Lantern” has not done well. “Super 8” bears the distinction of being the only well-reviewed film in the top five. JJ Abrams’ nostalgic homage to ’80s coming-of-age classics took in $12.1 million for a $95.2 million total. Coming in at #5, Jim Carrey’s “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” dropped 44 percent with $10.3 million for a $39.4 million two-week total. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” seems a safe bet for next weekend’s number one. Now that Jason Reitman has wrapped on Young Adult with Charlize Theron, he’s reportedly set to court another Oscar-winner, this time Kate Winslet, for his next project, Labor Day . The film — based on Joyce Maynard’s 2009 book about a single mother who takes in and falls in love with a possibly sinister stranger (to be played by Josh Brolin) — has the chance of being crazier than Winslet’s other recent film, Roman Polanski’s Carnage , where she screams at Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz, and John C. Reilly for two hours. Mildred Pissed , more like! [ EW ]
‘They said Chuck Norris was in the train,’ star Riley Griffiths tells us at the movie’s premiere in Los Angeles. By Kara Warner Riley Griffiths, Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning Photo: Getty Images LOS ANGELES — One of the more exciting things about the new J.J. Abrams-directed, Steven Spielberg-produced thriller “Super 8” is the overall mystery of the film. From the basic plot details that have been released, very little is known about what the heck the movie is about. Based on word of mouth and one key moment in the film’s trailers that show something trying to escape a locked compartment on a train, there is a very mysterious “thing” or secret terrorizing a small town. MTV News headed out to the film’s star-studded premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday night to find out from the castmembers what crazy theories they’ve heard about what the “it” or “thing” or “big secret” is all about. Their answers were surprisingly varied and all over the map. “I’ve seen on IMDb that a lot of people thought it was a giant lion,” Zach Mills said. “I don’t know why. That’s the craziest thing I’ve heard.” “The funniest thing that someone has guessed what it is, they said Chuck Norris was in the train,” Riley Griffiths revealed. “That’s probably the funniest thing I’ve heard so far.” “I think someone said once on Facebook or something that it was the cube that Elle [Fanning] and Joel [Courtney] are looking at, and that [they think] it’s some creature,” Gabriel Basso said of a moment where Fanning and Courtney’s characters are examining a vibrating white cube. “That was really funny. I laughed.” Ryan Lee’s conspiracy theorists or secret guessers seemed to think that the mystery revolves around someone or something with a canine obsession. “[They think] that the thing has a dog fetish,” Lee revealed. “That’s the funniest thing somebody has said to me about the mystery of the movie. They think that thing is hoarding dogs in its train, I guess.” And last but not least, the adult in the group, actor Kyle Chandler, recalled a theorist who thinks the mystery revolves around a certain fever- and frenzy-inducing pop star. “Someone suggested to me that it was Justin Bieber,” he said. “And it could be.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Super 8.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Coming Soon is reporting that Sam Raimi has officially cast James Franco as the titular, fast-talking conman in Oz, The Great and Powerful, his adult-tinged prequel to the Wizard of Oz . And errant ballerina Mila Kunis is also coming aboard at the witch Glendora; no word as to whether she is a good witch or a bad witch. It’s long been rumored but I think Franco is great choice for a silver-tongued scamster — after all, didn’t he con us all into thinking he’d be able to host the Oscars? [ ComingSoon ]
