Tournament of THG Quarterfinals: Kate Middleton vs. Miley Cyrus!

Welcome back to the Tournament of THG, where fans vote on the most popular star of 2011! The concept is simple: Pick your favorite of the two stars in each poll. Done. After eight sometimes bruising first round matchups, the quarterfinal round begins now, with Kate Middleton taking on Miley Cyrus for the right to make the final four. Kate absolutely thrashed Kim Kardashian in a big upset, while Miley edged Kristen Stewart in our most-voted-on poll in round one. The full bracket appears below. Who will advance to the next round? VOTE below (and after the jump)! Again, your votes alone will determine the most popular star of the past year on THG. Here’s a look at how the filed shapes up as we gear up to begin round two:

Ian Christe: The Mr. Skin Skinterview

Ian Christe is king of the metalheads. We know it’s hard to hear, headbangers, and we’re sure your record collection is appropriately trv, but this guy wrote the book. Literally. His book Sound of the Beast: The Complete Headbanging History of Heavy Metal , first published in 2003, contains over 400 pages of hard-rocking history and has been translated into German, Czech, Finnish, French, Japanese, and Spanish, among others (more on that later). Ian has since translated his incredible knowledge of all things heavy into the popular Sirius Satellite Radio show Bloody Roots , where every week he ” preaches a lesson in heavy metal heritage, with inside stories and tons of rare music from all of metal’s many subspecies,” and Bazillion Points Books , which published Swedish Sensationsfilms earlier this year (read our interview with author Daniel Ekeroth here ) and next year will bring Heavy Metal Movies to life with our own Mike McBeardo . Throw the horns with Ian Christe after the jump!

MLB Source: Ryan Braun Positive Test Caused By Medication, Not Steroids

Is the reigning National League MVP, Ryan Braun, innocent of using performance enhancing drugs after all? This new report suggests his positive test may be a fluke. Ryan Braun’s positive test for banned substances was caused by medication for a private medical issue – not PEDs – according to Major League Baseball sources. Braun is adamant he has not taken drugs or steroids of any kind. A source close to the MLB and the controversial Braun drug case said simply that “the medication contained banned substances resulting in the positive test.” Prior to taking the dirty test, Braun had always tested negative for banned substances – not that this proves his innocence, but it’s worth noting just the same. The nature of Braun’s medical ailment is unclear, as is whether Milwaukee Brewers star knew exactly what substances were in his medication before he took it. It’s also unknown if any of these revelations could lead to the positive test – and the 50-game suspension it earned Braun – being overturned by MLB officials.

Early Report: Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is so Awful, You’ll Pee Fire

I guess the new Nicolas Cage fire urination epic Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance did not soar like a blazing motorcycle across the night sky at Buttnumbathon recently. In fact, it tanked. There’s a flamin’ new poster for the film – one that would look impressive on a Hot Topic t-shirt or a bitchin’ Trapper Keeper – but we’ve got three definitely stanky tweets about the movie after the jump. We threw in a dollop of hope at the end, though.
