‘American Idol’ Elimination Brings ‘Relief,’ Joshua Ledet Says

‘It sucks having a lot of pressure on you, knowing that you have to do this and that,’ ‘Idol’ castoff tells MTV News. By Kelly Marino Joshua Ledet Photo: MTV News “American Idol” finalist Joshua Ledet won’t be taking anyone to church during this season’s finale next week, leaving bluesy rocker Phillip Phillips and budding diva Jessica Sanchez to compete for the title. The 20-year-old powerhouse received a record number of standing ovations from the panel and has been proclaimed as one of the best contestants in the history of the show. So, coming in third place with the lowest total of the 90 million votes cast this week might come as a shock to some, but Ledet says it was more like a relief. “I just felt relief,” the soulful singer told MTV News backstage after the show. “As soon as they said Phillip was going on, I felt a lot of pressure came off of me and I was — I’m not going to say I was happy — but it sucks having a lot of pressure on you, knowing that you have to do this and that and this and that. But when they said I wasn’t going on, I was just like, ‘OK. Now I can get this song out of the way and then go home and go to sleep or do something fun.’ ” But make no mistake: It wasn’t just about getting his farewell song out of the way. After belting out “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by James Brown, the Louisiana native claims he was so overwhelmed, he couldn’t fully recall what the judges were saying to him when they came to console him after the show. “I honestly don’t remember what they were saying because I think I was so emotional,” the preacher’s son explained. “I just remember Jennifer [Lopez] telling me never to give up and that my career is going to go higher from here on out and to just keep believing in myself. “Definitely, it gives me a lot of hope seeing Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert and Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry. All of these people that didn’t win have had a lot of huge careers, so hopefully that can happen for me.” That being said, Ledet’s career probably could take off if Jimmy Iovine has anything to do with it. For weeks, the show’s music mentor has continuously hinted at signing the singer, even claiming to know the exact type of album he should make — a bit ironic, considering the Interscope head admitted wrongdoing by picking Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama” for the gospel sensation to perform before being voted off. Thankfully, though, Ledet has no regrets. “I don’t regret any performance that I’ve done on the show,” Ledet said. “People can say one thing, but it’s what I feel in my heart and how I feel about something. So, I don’t think I’ll let people tell me what to do as a person if it’s not true to me in my heart. “I definitely did like the ‘No More Drama’ song,” he added. “It’s not a lot of melody, but I don’t think it’s a competition song. It’s just one of those great songs that you can perform at the Grammys or something.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Nicki Minaj Continues Newsstand Domination With Complex Cover

MC relives her killer year and her ‘quest to stand alone’ in magazine’s 10th anniversary issue. By Nadeska Alexis Nicki Minaj on the cover of Complex Photo: Complex If there was ever any doubt that Nicki Minaj would continue her impressive career sprint in 2012, look no further than the newsstand nearest to you. The Young Money rapper has already covered Paper, New York, Vibe and Allure in the first three months of the year (and she got a feature in Vogue too). And now, she’s on the cover of Complex . Complex unveiled their feature with Minaj on Tuesday (after rolling out Justin Bieber’s story from their April/May double cover on Monday). As to be expected, the 29-year-old rapper is done up in eye-catching colors, sporting a white wig with shades of purple, white and pink lipstick and some added graphics just to push it over the top. The feature backtracks on her astronomical year, which included a Super Bowl performance, a Grammys performance , an OPI nail polish line and a MAC cosmetics deal and looks forward to a coming year that will include a fragrance line, a fashion line and a world tour. “If I wasn’t doing it, I wouldn’t believe it’s possible,” Minaj told the magazine about her success. “I happen to be a pessimist, and maybe that’s a good thing because I don’t stop to smell the roses — which is not a good personal thing. I don’t stop and enjoy those moments. I’m just [snaps fingers] on to the next. Always on to the next and never in the moment.” Despite her catalog of achievements, the Queens rapper says that she’s laser-focused on achieving that much more, especially with her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, which is due out on April 3. “Doing the Super Bowl with Madonna doesn’t really change Nicki Minaj’s personal goals,” she says. “My goal right now is still to put out Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, sell 5 million copies eventually, and tour every country in the world.” “I came out with Young Money, the biggest hip-hop label in the world at that time. And then it was, ‘How do I branch away from Lil Wayne?’ ” she continues. “One of my biggest records was with Drake, ‘Moment 4 Life.’ Even with the Super Bowl, it’s Madonna’s moment. I’m just sharing in that moment. It’s not Nicki Minaj’s moment. Nicki Minaj at the Grammys — that’s my moment. I’ve just been constantly on this quest to stand alone.” After dropping Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Nicki will set out on a 15-date European tour , which will kick off in early June. Tyga Associate Honey Cocaine Shot After Nebraska Concert

Toronto MC suffered minor wounds when a van she was traveling in took on gunfire after a show in downtown Omaha. By Rob Markman Honey Cocaine Photo: Taylor Hill/ FilmMagic Tyga ‘s careless world was hit with quite a bit of drama on Monday night following a concert in Omaha, Nebraska. Omaha police confirmed with MTV News that two members of Tyga’s entourage were shot and suffered minor wounds when a van that the Young Money rapper was traveling in took on gunfire after his show at the Sokol Auditorium in downtown. Tyga’s artist Honey Cocaine, real name Sochitla Sal, took to Twitter early Tuesday morning (March 20) and confirmed that she was one of the people shot. “Got shot and I’m not dead. #LoveLifeAndGod,” she wrote . The police report confirms that Honey was struck in the arm and was transported to Creighton University Medical Center. The second victim, Derrick Lowe, was grazed in his hip and refused treatment at the scene. The confrontation began while Tyga was onstage getting set to perform his hit single “Rack City,” the last song from his set. A group of concertgoers began to throw things onstage, which seemed to infuriate the rapper. Footage of the incident made its way to YouTube shortly after. In the clip, an enraged Tyga begins shouting, “Who threw it?” before urging the culprit to see him outside after the show. The police report cites a disturbance at the concert hall and states that Tyga and company were followed by a black four-door sedan as they left the scene in their van. Police observed several bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle, but no one was seriously injured. The investigation is ongoing, police say. On February 29, Honey Cocaine joined Tyga when he appeared on ” RapFix Live ” and spit a verse for the camera. The Toronto MC also sat and chopped it up with Sway about her plans for the future with Tyga. “Me, I’m building,” she said. “We’re building together, but we both do our own thing.” Related Artists Tyga

So How Wasted Did Lindsay Lohan Get After Her SNL Performance Bombed?

Lindsay Lohan has a rough Saturday…so how did she deal with it? Well, actually…she stayed sober! Apparently, Lohan didn’t care if her Saturday Night Live performance was all kinds of doo doo butter as she partied the night away. However, and just as importantly, she managed to party without getting drunk as she’s apparently really dedicated to her sobriety. Go figure. After the show ended, Lindsay, her guests and the cast and crew headed to Kibo, a Japanese restaurant in New York’s Gramercy area, where Lindsay went from table to table thanking everyone. “It was such a huge celebration at the after-party,” a guest told me. “No one wanted to leave. Around 3:00 a.m., folks started to say goodnight after Lindsay worked the room, making it clear that she was back. Not drinking, but rather enjoying being back in the limelight doing something good, not bad.” “Good” is obviously a subjective term because um, her performance was nothing short of brutal. But we’re glad she stayed sober! Pic via WENN More On Bossip! Josh Krajcik: So Happy for Melanie Amaro!

There may be one thing Josh Krajcik does better than sing: accept defeat. The X Factor runner-up may have lost to Melanie Amaro last Thursday night , but you’d hardly know it based on the way Krajcik greeted reporters after the show. He was giddy and gracious. “It’s been an amazing process to be a part of, I’ve met so many incredible people,” Josh said. “I feel like the future’s bright and everything I’ve done in my life has led to tonight. It’s a turning point in my life and now it starts. Now I’m ready to get to work.” As for Amaro? “She deserves to win. She’s wonderful. America decided, and she’s got such an amazing voice and she’s such a great girl. I couldn’t be happier for her.” Krajcik added that he’s gonna go home for a week and then “go to work” on his singing career. We have a feeling his days of slinging burritos are long behind him.

Nicole Scherzinger Speaks on Rachel Crow Ousting

For the record, Nicole Scherzinger did not send Rachel Crow home on Thursday night. This X Factor judge instead chose to let America decide between the 13-year old and Marcus Canty, yet Scherzinger is the panelist facing the harshest fan rebuke after Crow’s name was called for elimination . “My heart comes from the right place, so I get really sensitive when people are negative,” the former Pussycat Doll told reporters after the show. “Don’t [critics] know I only want the best for every single person?” Nicole added that she thought Canty would be selected by voters, though they never got a chance to hear Crow’s incredible survival song . “When I saw that look on her face, [I felt] that I had let her down, like I dropped her,” Scherzinger, who shed tears for 30 minutes after the episode, said. “I could have been holding on and I dropped her. She is the sunshine of our show, so it’s hard to see her cry.” Crow, however, has come out and said the public should not blame Nicole , while the young crooner’s fortunes are already looking up: sources say Disney has requested a meeting with Rachel.
