SMH: Gucci Apologizes For $890 ‘Backface Sweater’

Okay this Black History Month needs an absolute do-over. Luxury designer  Gucci  apologized Thursday for their new wool balaclava jumper because it happens to resemble blackface a little  too  much. “Gucci deeply apologizes for the offense caused by the wool balaclava jumper,” the brand wrote in response to the backlash. “We consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be fully upheld, respected, and at the forefront of every decision we make.” The $890 sweater was pulled from Gucci’s website and all physical stores. As you can see, it is black and covers up to the wearer’s nose with material. However, the red ring around the hole for the jumper’s mouth resembles a pair of lips, reminiscent of blackface or minstrel cartoons. Gucci deeply apologizes for the offense caused by the wool balaclava jumper. Again, can we restart black history month?! This Ain’t It Chief: Texas State Education Board Votes To Remove Hillary Clinton From History Classes

Splash Hillary Clinton may not be the most liked person in the world , but she made history as the first woman to run for President of the United States and we shouldn’t let that go unnoticed. Unfortunately for students it Texas, Mrs. Clinton’s historic feat will be disregarded after the state’s decision earlier this week to remove Hillary Clinton and Hellen Keller from history lessons. Newsweek reports: The vote comes as the board makes efforts to “streamline” the social studies curriculum in the state, The Dallas Morning News reported. The preliminary vote by the 15 member board group created a rubric to decide which historical figures were “essential to learn about and who wasn’t.” But for some odd reason, the same curriculum deems it mandatory for students to learn about Bill Clinton ‘s impeachment. Thoughts?

Christie had shut down the Garden State government after the state Legislature failed to pass a budget by the July 1 deadline, according to CNN . The shutdown reportedly furloughed an estimated 35,000 state workers and forced the temporary closure of state parks, beaches, recreational areas, and historic sites–which sucks because it happened to be on the weekend before July 4th. But, that didn’t stop Christie from setting his thigh and chest meat out with his family. He sat his azz on the “shut down” beach over the weekend, while everyone else was banned. Random Ridiculousness: Woman Drives Four Hours To Planned Parenthood After Being Shamed For Hickey By Doctor

Poor woman . Woman Shamed By Doctor For Hickey This is a damn shame in 2013. According to Raw Story A Texas woman who was shamed by her doctor for having a hickey and wanting birth control says she is now forced to drive four hours to a Planned Parenthood clinic for health care due to the state’s new anti-abortion laws. Athena Mason told KUT that her first visit to the doctor as a student at Texas A&M was awkward. “I had a hickey and the doctor was just like, you shouldn’t be doing that,” she recalled. “I’m like, ‘It’s a hickey, it’s nothing major.’ But I got a big lecture. [He said] my boyfriend was abusive and all of these things. And then I asked for birth control. I did not hear the end of that. So I said never mind, I’ll go somewhere else.” Mason started using the Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan. But that facility is one of four women’s health service providers that closed in August after the state passed new regulations restricting abortions. So Mason now drives four hours to the Planned Parenthood clinic in Austin for health care. Since when do doctors give moral lectures to their patients? Actually the bigger issue may be the public health crisis some of these states are creating by closing affordable health care facilities. SMH.

Noriega Extradited to France

MEXICO CITY — Two decades after United States troops invaded Panama and arrested Manuel Noriega, the country’s dictator, Mr. Noriega left federal prison in Miami on Monday and was extradited to France. After the State Department authorized his extradition, Mr. Noriega was put on an Air France flight for Paris, said one of his lawyers, John May. Mr. Noriega had lost a court battle seeking to be returned to Panama after completing a federal prison term. In 1999, he was convicted in France in absentia of laundering more than $3 million in drug profits by buying luxury apartments there. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. France has agreed to hold a new trial. Mr. Noriega was also convicted in Panama of ordering the murder of political opponents, as well as embezzlement and corruption. Despite the more serious charges there, Mr. Noriega, who is in his seventies, fought to return to Panama. Elderly prisoners there are permitted to serve prison terms at home.
