A student’s video rant over an attack on his sister has become YouTube’s most-watched video of the year. Antoine Dodson, who lived in the impoverished neighbourhood of Lincoln Park in Alabama, unleashed an angry, but comical tirade at a local news reporter which has since been turned into a song by a New York duo. Musicians Evan and Michael Gregory transformed Dodson’s words into an auto-tuned song, ‘Bed Intruder’ which has received a total of 61 million hits. His female classmates looked on in awe at their new heartthrob as he stunned them with his rendition of the 2009 hit. A teacher testified afterwards: ‘In my opinion, he just taught Lady Gaga a lesson’. The initial tape of the toddler crying over not being able to see Bieber was also a big hit after her family uploaded it onto YouTube. The trailer for Twilight Saga: Eclipse got over 17 million fans logging in to watch and a stunt video of rally driver Ken Block speeding around the track rounded up the top ten list. YouTube said it made an exception in its rankings for OK Go’s music video because the band is no longer on a major label. In March, the band left EMI’s Capitol Records to start Paracadute Recordings. Mia Quagliarello, YouTube community manager, noted that several of 2010’s top videos were made by people or companies that attempt to create YouTube videos for a living. YouTube shares advertising revenue with uploaders who are ‘partners.’ Many of the so-called amateurs that helped build YouTube have gone pro. ‘More and more people are seeing YouTube as a place they can make it their career,’ said Ms Quagliarello. ‘We try to give them the tools and the financials to make that happen.’ The top 10 YouTube videos
