New Bourne Legacy Trailer: It’s Renner Time

The first trailer for the Tony Gilroy-helmed spy sequel The Bourne Legacy has arrived, and it’s got everything you want: Bone-crunching action, fire extinguisher guns, Rachel Weisz as a hot lady doctor, and Jeremy Renner banging around doing his sensitive-strong mooney-eyed thing (and leaping out of rivers half-naked) as secret agent Aaron Cross. Okay, those are all the things I want from The Bourne Legacy , but the trailer gives us one more essential bit: Explanation as to how and why Renner’s been retconned into Bourne lore at all. Renner’s turn at the Bourne wheel isn’t a conventional sequel or reboot but a universe-expanding parallel storyline that seems to take place simultaneous to the events of the previous Bournes, with Matt Damon ‘s face popping up here and there — via photograph, a la Natalie Portman in The Avengers , or Robin Harris in House Party 2 — as the fugitive spy who upturned the Treadstone apple cart and set the spy world a’scramblin way back in 2002’s The Bourne Identity . So Renner’s Aaron Cross — and the comely agency doctor (Weisz) who patches him up between missions, then goes on the run with him — are freed from the singular mission that Jason Bourne was on. They can flee for their own lives, together. He can use his medically-enhanced super soldier skills to leap from buildings into tight alleyways when she calls his name. So romantic! And, also importantly, Renner’s Cross already seems like a much different man-spy than Bourne was. Damon played the tortured amnesiac thing well, but Cross doesn’t seem to be flailing about in some existential crisis; he knows what he is. That confident self-possession is magnetic. HE JUST WANTS TO LIVE, DAMMIT! At least, that’s what I got from these two minutes and change of trailer footage. And let’s not forget what else the trailer promises: Oscar Isaac. Ed Norton. No more shaky-cam! Verdict: In, obviously. From Universal: The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles. The Bourne Legacy is in theaters August 3.

‘The Bourne Legacy’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Jeremy Renner’s rogue agent is introduced in badass ‘Bourne’ fashion. By Kevin P. Sullivan Jeremy Renner in the “Bourne Legacy” trailer Photo: Universal Pictures Jeremy Renner makes his big debut as the latest agent gone rogue in “The Bourne Legacy.” Picking up where Matt Damon left off, Renner plays Aaron Cross, an apparent improvement over Jason Bourne. You’ll have to head over to Apple to check out the brand-new trailer, but we have the five key scenes you need to play attention to: Background The trailer immediately sets the mood with a little help from the opening credits of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.” The bars sliding across the screen directly borrow from the horror classic and make things creepy quickly. Jeremy Renner’s character gives the name “Kenneth,” despite being listed in the credits as Aaron Cross. At the beginning of the trailer, Kenneth/Aaron does not look well. His left eye sags, and the right side of his face is speckled with blood. Immediately, we’re questioning who he is and what he’s been through, a good thing when introducing a new character to the series. ‘Well, That Has Healed Well’ If Aaron is “Treadstone without the inconsistencies,” that may imply he is, in fact, stronger than Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne. The physician looking at Aaron’s hand in the trailer remarks that it had healed well, as if it’s something remarkable. Does the removal of those Treadstone inconsistencies include a rapid healing ability? Introducing Edward Norton Norton joins the cast as the newest villain in the series, and he makes for a welcome addition. In the trailer, we’re introduced to his character, Byer, who tests Aaron to see if he’s completely committed to the program, known as “Outcome.” Norton leaves little doubt that he’s going to make for a worthy opponent in a series known for its intelligent bad guys. Reintroducing Albert Finney The introduction of a new main character does not preclude the appearance of some familiar faces. Both Finney and Joan Allen reprise their roles, as Dr. Hirsch and Pamela Landy, respectively. They will be the main through lines to the original trilogy and should help make a little more sense of the new direction for the series. The Fire Extinguisher Though it may not ultimately mean that much for the story, a move as inventive as sticking a nail into the end of the fire extinguisher has to be acknowledged. “The Bourne Legacy” hits theaters August 3. New Movie: The Next James Bond Flick Has Been Announced And It Looks Like There Will Be Some Swirly Action!!

We reported back in June that this brown-skinned banger Naomie Harris may be joining the “Bond Girl” sorority… And we were right! Ah, Mr. Bond, we’ve been waiting for you — and at last 007 is back, several years after his last screen adventure. Producers announced Thursday that filming has begun on “Skyfall,” the delayed 23rd film in the series and Daniel Craig’s third outing as the suave British superspy. Craig, who has brought a hard edge to his portrayal, told reporters that the movie, directed by Sam Mendes and shot in London, Scotland, Turkey and China, would be “Bond with a capital B.” Craig said he was “tremendously excited” to be stepping back into the role for the first time since 2008′s “Quantum of Solace.” Work on the film was postponed, and Bond’s future looked uncertain, when studio MGM filed for bankruptcy in 2010. But MGM’s new management and EON Productions announced earlier this year that the spy would live to fight another day. Craig will be joined by Spanish star Javier Bardem as Bond’s nemisis, while British actors Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw will play as-yet-undisclosed roles. Judi Dench returns as spy chief M and the film introduces two new Bond girls — English actress Naomie Harris as a field agent named Eve and French performer Berenice Marlohe as “a glamorous, enigmatic character” named Severine. Skyfall is set to be released in the states on Nov. 9, 2012 on the 50th anniversary for the first Bond film “Dr. No”. Wonder will Bond get to chop down the first cakes of color since Halle Berry in 2002′s Die Another Die ?? Source
