After push backs and delays, it looks like Lil Wayne’s latest albums is ready for world consumption…but we’re not sure if you even still care. Wayne just informed the world that Tha Carter IV is finally finished. All we know so far is that the album will feature Weezy’s Young Money crew, along with Busta Rhymes, Bun B, Tech N9ne, Cee Lo, John Legend and Will.i.am with production from Swizz Beatz, Bangladesh, Polow Da Don and Boi-1da. Sounds like an all-star line-up. Still, Wayne hasn’t been able to get the sort of buzz he’s gotten in recent years. “6’7′” didn’t take over the charts and his new “How To Love” song probably won’t be blazing in the clubs. Has Weezy lost it or are you copping the album anyway? Sound off and we’ll see what happens on August 29th when C4 drops.
‘It’s about being alive and being happy and living life and being a woman,’ the ‘Motivation’ singer tells MTV News about July 26 LP. By Jocelyn Vena Kelly Rowland Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Kelly Rowland got some “Motivation” from Lil Wayne for the lead single off her album Here I Am, out on July 26. The album is a mix of her R&B roots and her more recent dance-queen persona. Earlier this year, Rowland told MTV News that she knew she wanted to try a little bit of everything on the record; she didn’t want to be defined by any one musical genre. “The album is amazing. I’m so excited about the album. I’m so excited for everyone to hear the rest of the album,” she said. “For a long time, I thought about, ‘Should it be dance or should it be urban or should it be this or should it be that?’ And I was like, ‘Why am I allowing people to make me think like that?’ “It’s just about artistry, it’s just about freedom,” she continued. “It’s just about music. It’s about being alive and being happy and living life and being a woman, just feeling amazing. And from records that I did with RedOne to records with Tricky [Stewart] to even emotional songs that still talk about vulnerable things, there’s so many songs on this album that people can relate to. So I can’t wait for everybody to hear everything, the whole body of work.” Given that it seems to be the summer of the diva , and that Rowland has her roots in a famous girl group, the theme of female empowerment fittingly comes up on her album as well. “That’s what this album is about as well: It’s the year of the woman,” the former Destiny’s Child singer laughed. “You know what? We just have something that they don’t, and it’s not just one thing, it’s many. We’re always thinking. We feel. We just have extra power than they do. Sorry, we can’t help ourselves!” Are you looking forward to Kelly’s album? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Kelly Rowland
Song will debut on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images Demi Lovato is ready to launch her comeback. On Tuesday the singer will drop her highly anticipated new single, “Skyscraper.” It will debut on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show , and the singer will also call in to chat with Seacrest about the track. This marks Lovato’s first big release of any kind since leaving treatment earlier this year. And while little is known about the song, Lovato told MTV News last summer that she was planning on making more R&B-sounding music. “I’m now just taking that next step and learning how to make my music more radio-friendly but also stay very artistic, and for me that’s R&B,” she said, revealing her dream of collaborating with Drake or Trey Songz . “I can put my vocal stylings on songs that are R&B and it showcases my vocals more than just singing really loud on a rock song.” In a Seventeen magazine blog post , she wrote, “My first single is really special to me — to me it symbolizes my journey from the person I was to the happy healthy person I am today, and the fact that people are able to rise above anything, despite the odds.” Lovato revealed on Twitter that she has shot a video for the new track, but no word yet on when it will drop. Just this week, she tweeted that she had recorded a duet for her forthcoming album, but she didn’t reveal with whom. In Seventeen she wrote that she wanted her new album to empower her fans. “With my new album, I’m hoping to provide inspiration for girls everywhere who are going through the same issues I’ve faced,” she said. “I think this will come through in a lot of the material.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Demi Lovato Related Artists Demi Lovato
Hov played more than a dozen tracks from his collabo with Kanye for MTV News on Thursday night. By Alvin Blanco Jay-Z Photo: Scott Wintrow/Getty Images NEW YORK — Jay-Z and Kanye West’s forthcoming album may be called Watch the Throne, but soon enough fans will be listening, not just looking, and it will have been worth the wait. On Thursday night, MTV News was among the shortlist of media outlets invited to get an early listen to power duo’s collaborative project. The listening session was held in the Mercer Hotel, where the New York Post previously reported that parts of the album were recorded. Though it was originally set to begin at 8 p.m., Jay-Z walked into the hotel lobby closer to 9 (word is he was at a Yankees game hoping to see Derek Jeter get his 3,000th hit). The group of journalists followed the rapper up to a suite that had been transformed into a recording studio. Seated in the rear of the room, wearing a Yankees snap-back hat and crisp, white shell-toe Adidas, Hova balanced a MacBook Pro in his lap. After asking those in attendance to introduce themselves, he got right into playing selections from the album, loudly. Standout tracks included a pair of songs that feature Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean . Jay-Z relayed that he reached out to Ocean after hearing his Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape and wanted him to contribute to his next solo album. After their initial work went well — Ocean appears on one of two songs Jay-Z revealed he has recorded for the solo LP — Hova invited the crooner to get down on Watch the Throne too. The only other guest on the album is Beyonc
Monica and Shannon Brown are preparing for their upcoming wedding celebration (despite making it official eight months ago). And in an effort to find a “menu that works for everybody from Chicago to Atlanta,” the couple sat down with ABC at The Kitchen in Los Angeles to taste test food, discuss how they first met and give tips for first dates. Monica On How They Met: “I go to work, and I have been for over 16 years and in the video [for “Love All Over Me”] we got married, and I didn’t expect that 6 months later we would do so in real life. That’s the way it worked out. That’s my first time ever seeing him, there [on the music video shoot].” Monica On “Safe” First Date Foods: “I had a steak. I had potatoes. I mean, there’s no safe way to me. When you start putting on facades, you mess it up instantly, so I say ‘be you.’ That’s the safe way. Everything sounds delicious! Lil B seems to real confident about his “I’m Gay” album. He says the album is going to be one of the most classic albums in hip hop. Lil B feels “I’m Gay” will eventually be just as classic as Biggie, Jay-Z and Nas classic albums. He feels it will uplift the people is what he told Tray Hova of Vibe Magazine. Check out the quote below. I’m Gay is going to be one of the most classic albums to ever touch down in hiphop. Once you hear the music and see the measures I’m going through for the people, it’ll be one of the Tupacs, the Biggie Smalls , the Lil Waynes , the DMXs , the Black Robs , the Beanie Sigels , the Jay-Zs , the Commons , the Kanye Wests , The Lupe Fiascos . It’s just goin’ to be real hard, the real love, the real struggle, the real pain. It’s goin’ to be somethin’ that uplifts people. Let me be the human sacrifice for the people. If I got to be the person that helps the world get better, let that be. If I gota go through pain so the next generation can be free and happy…let that be. Producer Jim Jonsin says The Adventures of Bobby Ray singer ‘wants it to be his album.’ By Rob Markman B.o.B Photo: MTV News B.o.B is out embarking on another adventure. After his 2010 debut, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, produced chart-topping singles and an RIAA-certified gold plaque, the Atlanta rapper is back in the studio crafting his next LP all by his lonesome. “What Bob wanted to do was go into the lab himself and spend his time creating what he wanted his album to have, the direction he wanted,” producer Jim Jonsin told MTV News. “So we’re waiting on him to come back with that house that he’s built so we can go ahead and put all the fixtures in and try to help with it.” Jonsin, who signed B.o.B to his Rebel Rock label, where the artist remains inked alongside T.I.’s Grand Hustle imprint (under Atlantic Records), said that after sessions earlier this year during which he and Bob cut “three or four records,” the “Nothin’ On You” rapper is now out working on the album alone, similar to the recording process on his debut. “Same way it was with the last album. Bob is very creative, he’s a producer, he’s a writer, he’s a real artist,” Jonsin said. While The Adventures of Bobby Ray was heavy on features, with contributions from Bruno Mars, Hayley Williams, Rivers Cuomo and Eminem, Jonsin said the plan for now is for B.o.B to make the album his own. “He doesn’t want to do the feature records; he wants it to be his album,” he said. In that respect, Jonsin, who has created hit records with Lil Wayne, Eminem and Usher, said he’s happy just letting Bob do his own thing and coming in to assist with production duties once the rapper has already laid his foundation. “He does have his ideas and his direction, and everyone feeds off of that,” the multiplatinum producer said. “The A&Rs, the label knows, Tip knows, I know where he’s going. We just gotta hear it, and then we can help him with it.” So far, Bob hasn’t announced a release date or a title for his new album, but in May, the singer told MTV News he’s actually been working on this album for quite some time. “It’s the right timing, and I haven’t revealed the name of the album yet,” he said, “but I’ve been working on this since before The Adventures of Bobby Ray, so it’s a real special project.” What do you expect B.o.B’s new album to sound like? ‘They might put it out yesterday,’ G.O.O.D. Music’s CyHi the Prynce jokes to Sway on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Daniel Boczarski/Getty Images The anticipation for Jay-Z and Kanye West ‘s joint album Watch the Throne coupled with the lack of information surrounding the project has created the perfect storm for rumors. Earlier this month, The Source magazine reported that the album would be dropping July 4. With Independence Day coming in less than a week, those chances are looking as slim as the girl in Calvin Klein pants is. But on Wednesday’s (June 29) episode of “Rap Fix Live,” G.O.O.D. Music artist CyHi the Prynce did give fans a bit of hope. “They are ready to go. Right now, all the music and everything is done,” CyHi told Sway. “But you know my guy — we over here with [Kanye], so ‘Ye is gonna add his last little pizzazz, and it’s going to be ready for you guys soon.” On Tuesday, the Fourth of July speculation continued to swirl as AllHipHop.com ran a rumor report that said that the album will come Monday as a digital-only release to avoid leaks. CyHi would neither confirm nor deny that report, saying he wasn’t privy to that information. “I don’t know the business of the logistics of it,” he said, dodging the question with a veteran’s poise. “Those are the bosses. You never know what they gonna do and how they gonna put it out. They might put it out yesterday. “I don’t know. ‘Ye can do something, and he can just do it how he wanna do it,” CyHi continued. “He can just put it out tomorrow if he wanted to, and that’s what ‘Ye want to do.” Until then, we’ll continue to watch.
