Wiz Khalifa Wants To Rap Over ‘Really Tight’ Mumford & Sons Song

‘Roll Up’ MC tells MTV News he’s a fan of the rock quartet during Spring Break in Las Vegas. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Sway and Wiz Photo: MTV News Spring Break is a chance for willing college kids to try something new. So in the spirit of the yearly tradition, Wiz Khalifa — one of the performers at MTV’s Spring Break 2011 , along with Snoop Dogg, Pitbull and Lupe Fiasco — spoke to MTV News about experimenting with rhyming. We asked the “Black and Yellow” star whose music he would pick if he could rap over any other artist’s song. “Mumford & Sons, they got a really tight song that I wanna rap over,” Wiz said. “That I would totally rap over if I had the chance to ’cause usually, when I see the video or hear the song, I get it real quick but now I have to ask again. I forgot. [Editor’s note: Wiz is likely referring either to M&S singles “Little Lion Man” or “The Cave.”] “They’re tight and really musical,” he said about the West London quartet. “I like the instruments they use, like bongos. It’s tight and acceptable.” Although Wiz took to the Las Vegas stage joined by his DJ, the Pittsburgh rapper said he also had a band in mind if he needed a crew to back him: the Disco Biscuits. “They’re hard,” he explained. “It’s just sound-y. When you get that vibe and that music, it just feels good and makes you feel a certain way when you hear it.” Khalifa, an MTV News 11 for ’11 pick, is set to celebrate his major-label debut on Tuesday, when Rolling Papers arrives in stores and at online retailers. “We got a couple of surprises along the way to keep people interested,” he told MTV News last month. “But really, other than that, the album is done. We’re really excited. Everyone is excited. [Warner Music Group executive] Lyor [Cohen] came through to a session. I got so much support from the single and going into the album. So when we do drop it, I think we’ll get that response that everyone was expecting.” Catch Wiz performing in Las Vegas during MTV’s Spring Break on Monday night (March 28) on MTV at 9:50 p.m. ET. Britney Spears Announces Las Vegas Nightclub Performance

‘Looks like my little secret isnt a secret anymore,’ she tweets before tonight’s Rain gig with DJ Pauly D from ‘Jersey Shore.’ By James Dinh Britney Spears Photo: Jive With less than a week until Femme Fatale hits stores, Britney Spears is adding another date to her promotional calendar. The “Hold It Against Me” singer took to her Twitter on Friday afternoon (March 25) to announce a performance at Rain nightclub at Las Vegas’ Palms Casino and Resort scheduled for later this evening. “Looks like my little secret isnt a secret anymore. Whos coming to watch me take the stage TONIGHT at @RainLasVegas at @PalmsLasVegas?” the pop star tweeted. “You’re all invited. Be there or be square bitch!” The curtain was pulled back on the Vegas performance earlier this week when OnSetProductions.com posted a notice scouting for fans to be part of the event, which will be filmed by MTV. “Jersey Shore” star DJ Pauly D will also be on hand throughout the evening. Britney is no stranger to the Rain stage. Back in 2003, the pop titan gave fans a sneak peek of her album In the Zone by surprising about 1,800 clubgoers with a 30-minute set, which included songs like “Me Against the Music” and “Breathe on Me.” Spears’ Vegas performance is the latest in her string of promotional ventures for her upcoming LP. Last week, it was confirmed that she would pre-tape her “Good Morning America” appearance on Sunday, two days before it will air on the show. On the day of her album release, she will also appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for a late-night performance of her two latest singles: “Till the World Ends” and “Hold It Against Me.” In addition to her concert specials, MTV will dedicate March 29 to the singer for what is being dubbed a “Britney Takeover” day. The entertainer will also make appearances on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and the Kids’ Choice Awards on April 2. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Britney Spears Related Artists Britney Spears

Lady Gaga Releases Country Version Of ‘Born This Way’

New take on hit song, dubbed ‘The Country Road Version,’ features slide guitar, mandolin and harmonica. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images You can take all those Madonna comparisons and throw them out the window of your Ford F-150 truck, because on Thursday night Lady Gaga released a whole new version of her global smash “Born This Way” that featured a totally unexpected spin. After tweeting to her Little Monsters that she was preparing to release “Born This Way (The Country Road Version),” Mother Monster dropped the tune at midnight PT on Friday (March 25) via her Twitter account … and it did not disappoint. The new rendition of the hit opens with ominous, swirling guitars and then introduces a fuzzed-out slide guitar and harmonica wheeze, with all of the thumping disco beats replaced by restrained brush drumming and a more laid-back vibe. Once it kicks into the first chorus, the song continues to take its time, choogling along on live-sounding, laconic drumming and lots of soulful harmonica. Just before the three-minute mark, Gaga mixes in some new lyrics, drawling, “If I wanna make it country, baby, then it’s OK, cuz I was born, I was born, I was born this way,” over picked mandolin. “From London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave,” she adds, as the song breaks into full-on country-rock mode reminiscent of late-period Bon Jovi in the final minute. Meanwhile, the original, non-boot-scooting version of “BTW” notched its sixth week in a row at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, which is what Gaga said prompted her to drop the surprise remake on her fans. Earlier this week, Gaga revealed that she’s almost done recording her Born This Way album , telling fans via Twitter, “In Nebraska, finishing up record today … I’m so proud of the album: I keep dancing+drinking: metal/techno rock journey of a woman on the run.” Plans are now being worked up for the tour in support of Born This Way (due out May 23) and Gaga’s first swing at directing, a collaboration with her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, on the video for the album’s upcoming second single, “Judas.” What do you think of Gaga’s twanged-up version of “Born This Way”? Earlier in the day, he made headlines when he had a public meltdown backstage after his interview with “Good Morning America,” but by the time the party started, Brown just wanted to redirect the energy to his album. “It was good. There was nothing but girls in there,” DJ Juanyto, who was at the party, told MTV News. “He came onstage, no Hollywoodness. He took all that energy from everyone and started performing. It was dope. No type of negativity. He was really positive. It was really dope.” Brown also performed at the gathering, bringing out pals like Bow Wow, Waka Flocka Flame and Lloyd Banks. E! News reports that the star alluded to his earlier drama, saying, “I wasn’t gonna perform tonight, but f— it! A lot of whack sh– happened today.” Juanyto confirmed that Brown alluded to the media drama, but he said Brown also added, “I’m really here for my fans.” “After he performed, he went up to the balcony and was partying,” Juanyto said. “He came back downstairs and he brought out Lloyd and got into a reggae dance competition with the audience. He’s really all about the fans. There was no drama whatsoever. When he’s around his fans, he has all that love. He’s really all about interacting with his fans.” Brown stayed at the party for about two hours and made sure that the focus stayed on his fan appreciation. “He just really was all about his fans,” Juanyto added. “He really made sure he spent all of his time with them, and he thanked them for coming out. Gwyneth Paltrow To Duet With Matthew Morrison On His Debut Album

The ‘Country Strong’ star and the ‘Glee’ actor have recorded a version of ‘Over the Rainbow’ for his upcoming release. By Aly Semigran Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Morrison Photo: GETTY/ Michael Tran Holly Holliday will be making sweet music with Will Schuester once more. Translating from Gleek speak, Oscar-winning-actress-turned-singing-staple Gwyneth Paltrow will be crooning yet another number with Matthew Morrison. Entertainment Weekly reports that Paltrow will appear on Morrison’s upcoming solo album, which is due out on May 10. On “Glee,” recurring guest Paltrow — who plays flaky substitute teacher Holliday — has covered Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” and Prince’s “Kiss,” the latter of which she performed with Morrison’s Mr. Schue. Now, the Golden Globe-nominated Morrison is having the “Country Strong” star help him out on his debut record, on a tune that’s become almost synonymous with his “Glee” character: “Over the Rainbow.” As Morrison told EW, “People kind of know me for that song now.” The Broadway-trained actor not only used the timeless “Wizard of Oz” number for his “Glee” audition, but also sang it with co-star Mark Salling (who released his own solo effort, Pipe Dreams , in 2010) during the season 1 finale — both times accompanying himself on ukulele. “I wanted to do a duet with a female. I thought that was a good song to do, and we really did a different arrangement of it,” Morrison explained about the version he recorded for his album. “It’s a lot of strings, and it’s beautiful.” Morrison admitted that he felt nervous about approaching Paltrow to see if she’d participate in the recording. “The hardest part of doing this album was asking these people favors, like Elton [John] and her,” he said. “I’m so not that guy.” In addition to Paltrow and John, Morrison also has ‘NSYNC member JC Chasez lined up for a duet on a song titled “Dancing in the Rain.” While there’s no word yet on who, if any, of his “Glee” castmates will appear on the record — both had championed to get their own duets on the album — co-star Jenna Ushkowitz has already been singing its praises . Ushkowitz, who plays glee-club member Tina Cohen-Chang on the show, told MTV News on the red carpet of the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January, “His music is really great.” She went on to say that Morrison “made his own sound” on the album, while adding that it was “a little bit of Justin Timberlake … [and] symphonic-sounding.” Morrison has yet to announce a title for album, though the actor did reveal to MTV News at Clive Davis’ post-Grammy bash in February that ” My Name ” has been considered as a possibility. Selena Gomez Says Her Next Album Is ‘More Mature’

‘It is very different, and I’m growing up,’ she says of the yet-untitled summer record. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Selena Gomez Photo: MTV News Selena Gomez isn’t a little girl anymore. She’s 18, in a high-profile romance and has left Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place” behind for less tween fare. Her next step also includes her forthcoming album and the empowering first single “Who Says.” “We haven’t decided [a] title [yet for the album] and we’re dealing with the album artwork, ’cause it is very different and I’m growing up,” she told MTV News. “It’s a lot more mature.” Gomez admits that she really loves stepping out of the Disney shadow to grow up in a big way on this album. “I’m growing,” she said. “I’m constantly changing, and it’s fun being able to express that for my fans. So this album is a huge rave; it really is. It’s funky, it’s different. I’m liking it.” The album will not feature any duets or collaborations, but Gomez does have a wish list just in case she feels the need to throw someone on one of the tracks between now and the summer release date. “All of it is pretty much me,” she said of the yet-untitled album. “I love Bruno Mars; I’m obsessed with him. I love B.o.B. I love Adele’s new record; it’s insane. I would love to even just meet her.” Gomez has previously shared that “there’s a lot more depth [on this album].” She has tracks on it that fully express the wide range of emotions she feels as a young woman in the spotlight. “There is one [song] that I’m completely in love with, and it was written by Pixie Lott, who I am obsessed with,” she said. “And it’s my mom’s favorite song. It’s very sweet. It’s kind of a ballad, but not really. It’s basically about living in the moment; it’s about enjoying right now. I’m very much enjoying right now. I’m in a good place.” What are you expecting from Selena’s next album? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Selena Gomez Related Artists Selena Gomez
