Selena Gomez Says Her Next Album Is ‘More Mature’

‘It is very different, and I’m growing up,’ she says of the yet-untitled summer record. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Selena Gomez Photo: MTV News Selena Gomez isn’t a little girl anymore. She’s 18, in a high-profile romance and has left Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place” behind for less tween fare. Her next step also includes her forthcoming album and the empowering first single “Who Says.” “We haven’t decided [a] title [yet for the album] and we’re dealing with the album artwork, ’cause it is very different and I’m growing up,” she told MTV News. “It’s a lot more mature.” Gomez admits that she really loves stepping out of the Disney shadow to grow up in a big way on this album. “I’m growing,” she said. “I’m constantly changing, and it’s fun being able to express that for my fans. So this album is a huge rave; it really is. It’s funky, it’s different. I’m liking it.” The album will not feature any duets or collaborations, but Gomez does have a wish list just in case she feels the need to throw someone on one of the tracks between now and the summer release date. “All of it is pretty much me,” she said of the yet-untitled album. “I love Bruno Mars; I’m obsessed with him. I love B.o.B. I love Adele’s new record; it’s insane. I would love to even just meet her.” Gomez has previously shared that “there’s a lot more depth [on this album].” She has tracks on it that fully express the wide range of emotions she feels as a young woman in the spotlight. “There is one [song] that I’m completely in love with, and it was written by Pixie Lott, who I am obsessed with,” she said. “And it’s my mom’s favorite song. It’s very sweet. It’s kind of a ballad, but not really. It’s basically about living in the moment; it’s about enjoying right now. I’m very much enjoying right now. I’m in a good place.” What are you expecting from Selena’s next album? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Selena Gomez Related Artists Selena Gomez

New ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

The new preview gives us a few clues about Jack’s journey to the Fountain of Youth. By Eric Ditzian Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow Photo: Disney We’ve just crossed the two-month mark; there’s now a mere 59 days until “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” shoves off and into theaters. What’s more, there’s now a brand-new trailer for Johnny Depp’s seafaring 3-D adventure flick, giving us important pieces of plot info and raising all new questions about what we’re going to see when the movie debuts. As we continue to count down the days until that premiere, let’s take a look at the new trailer’s five key moments. Looks Like They Took a Wrong Turn We’ve already seen a variation of this scene — Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow walking under some kind of stone archway on an island — but in the new trailer, we see the camera push forward a little, giving us a peek at what’s on the other side: a ship perched on a cliff high above the water line. How’d it get there? Well, as we see throughout the new footage, the laws of physics get twisted in all sorts of funky ways. Just as compelling a question as what the ship is doing up there is: Whose ship is it? Speaking of ships, the Black Pearl is back in the mix, though this time it seems to be in the hands of nefarious Blackbeard (Ian McShane). And as Captain Barbossa explains, Blackbeard has made some unconventional improvements to the craft. “The rigging had come to life. Our own ship turned against us,” he tells Jack as we see shots of ropes whipping around like tentacles and plucking up pirates. What sort of dark magic does Blackbeard wield? A confusing one, no doubt, because after Sparrow gets caught up in the ship’s new powers, he blurts out, “Captain, I wish to report a mutiny. I can name fingers and point names!” We’ve seen plenty of mermaids floating through previous “Pirates” footage, but the new trailer gives us the most information yet about how these creatures fit into the storyline. Turns out, a mermaid is needed to locate the fountain of youth — that mythical place everyone in “On Stranger Tides” is trying to find. That explains why, as in earlier footage, we see a shot of a mermaid trapped in a seriously large fish tank. Captivity, however, can kill a mermaid. Given that under his tattoos and dreadlocks, Sparrow is a very moral guy, we suspect Jack might go from capturing a mermaid to setting one free. From the very first official “On Stranger Tides” photos , we’ve seen Jack being dragged into Old Royal Naval College by King George II’s guards and offered the job of finding the fountain of youth. But the captain isn’t one take to orders. How does he slip away from King George’s men? A clue seems to arrive in the form of Jack wearing a musty old wig and a bright red robe, just like a British judge: nothing like a clever disguise to help a pirate escape. As we mentioned, Jack’s quest for the fountain brings him into contact with lands in which the laws of physics don’t entirely apply. Early in the new trailer, for instance, a drop of water seems to fall upwards, hitting Jack’s hands as it goes. Here we see our hero in a sort of cave that has a roof of water. How exactly does something like happen? And, furthermore, how is he pulled up into the water as if by reverse gravity? We likely won’t get the full answer until the movie arrives on May 20. Check out everything we’ve got on ” Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Kelly Clarkson ‘Will Sing Her Butt Off’ On New Record, Songwriter Says

‘When it comes out, the fans will be happy … it’ll be good times,’ Claude Kelly says. By Jocelyn Vena Kelly Clarkson Photo: George Pimentel/WireImage While fans may have to wait until September to hear Kelly Clarkson ‘s new album , songwriter Claude Kelly is revealing some details about what fans will hear once the album drops. He recently worked on the album with Clarkson, and while he’s not completely sure which tracks will make the final cut, he said that Clarkson will be back bigger and better than ever. “I’m not surprised ’cause the music industry is full of unexpected things,” he said of the delay. “I will say that I’d be willing to bet that the reason it was pushed back was not for anything as horrible or earth-shattering as people think — it’s probably [just] a better setup.” Describing the current pop scene as “congested,” Claude Kelly thinks that a slightly delayed release will work in Clarkson’s favor. “They want to make sure that the arena is clean for Kelly Clarkson’s return, ’cause when she comes back, she always comes back pretty big,” he said. “They want to make sure when her first single comes out, there’s nothing out there that’s competing with it. I don’t know for sure, but Kelly always does it big, so when it comes out, the fans will be happy and she’ll sing her butt off and it’ll be good times.” Kelly and Clarkson have been working on some fun up-tempo tracks for the album. “The songs I did write for her were in true Kelly Clarkson form, singer records that showcase her voice, but also show her edge and her attitude and her personality,” he explained. “[It’s] always up-tempo for me when it comes to Kelly. I like to hear her in kick-butt mode. She has an edge to her voice that you want to hear her sing high and get in your face.” Over the weekend, Clarkson debuted a ballad titled “Why Don’t You Try” at Muhammad Ali’s 17th Annual Celebrity Fight Night in Arizona and it definitely displayed big voice. The track is a cover of songwriter Eric Hutchinson’s 2009 tune. Related Artists Kelly Clarkson

Chris Brown Calls Nude-Photo Leak ‘Disappointing’

‘I was like, ‘Man, now it’s gonna [look like] a gimmick behind it,’ F.A.M.E. singer tells MTV News of his initial reaction. By Rebecca Thomas Chris Brown Photo: MTV News Even with full-frontal snaps of him circulating on the Net, Chris Brown wants everyone to know that, like a certain fired sitcom star, he’s still … winning! Earlier this month, a newly blond C.Breezy was preparing for the promotional run of his March 22 release, F.A.M.E., when photographs of the heavily tatted pop&B singer — completely in the buff and facing an oblong mirror with phone in hand — leaked to the Internet. Brown quickly took to Twitter , where he unleashed a salty post before removing it: “WTF!!! Here we go!!!” On Friday (March 18), Chris stopped by MTV News for a sit-down and he explained what really got him hot under the collar about the incident. “Let me be honest with you. I didn’t want to put no pictures out; that’s not my intention. A lot of people were saying, ‘Yo, he leaked the pictures, he was trying to get promotion,’ ” the “Deuces” singer said. “For me, I was always a singer, so unless I’m planning on trying to do porn, I don’t think I’d want to just leak my wang out to the world before my album comes out.” While leaking photos might be the go-to for celebutantes and wannbe stars famished for fame, Chris was bothered that critics would accuse him of deliberately passing along provocative pictures for publicity’s sake. “It was disappointing to me that it was out, because I was like, ‘Man, now it’s gonna [look like] a gimmick behind it,’ ” he said of the pre-release push for his album. “And I don’t want a gimmick behind anything that I’m doing.” Although Brown was mum about the girl on the receiving end of those racy pics, we wondered if the experience would make him more cautious with his iPhone in the future. But it turns out Chris found something oddly liberating about it. “Nah, I’m just living life, I’m just gonna have fun,” Brown said, adjusting his Billionaire Boys Club knit cap. “At this point, there’s no more insecurities with me. Everything’s out on the table. You’ve seen everything! Also, as an artist I’m free with my music. I get to talk about the subjects I want to talk about and also reach people. So I’m just gonna live my life, man. There’s nothing to be upset about, nothing to be angry … where I’m at creatively and mentally is great so I’m not gonna let anybody or any naysayer or hater mess that up,” he said before adding with a toothy grin, ” ’cause there’s no point, I’m … winning!” Related Artists Chris Brown

B.o.B Says Fans Will ‘Be Surprised’ By His New Album

‘You’ll definitely see new music this year,’ he says at South by Southwest. By James Montgomery B.o.B Photo: MTV News AUSTIN, Texas — B.o.B’s debut disc topped the Billboard albums chart and spawned a pair of smash singles, and, in the process, transformed him from a hotly tipped underground artist to one of the brightest stars in hip-hop. As he begins work on the follow-up to The Adventures of Bobby Ray , is it possible for him to top that album’s success? Even he doesn’t know the answer to that question — but he’s willing to give it his best shot. “I would have to parallel my album coming out to losing your virginity,” he told MTV News at the South by Southwest festival. “The first time you have sex is way more exciting than the second time. Not that the second time isn’t exciting, it’s just … the initial excitement of finally having that first album. “I think that people will definitely be surprised at the music they hear on the second album,” he added. “I don’t think they would expect that coming from me.” And while details of the new album are still scarce — switching from sexual metaphors to sports metaphors, B.o.B said he’s “just at the end of the first quarter” of the recording process” — he’s already planning to give fans a taste of his new material very soon. “There’s probably going to be some surprises. There’s no telling what the next three quarters will be like,” he said. “We should be seeing something very soon. Even if not an album, you’ll definitely see new music this year.” And though he might be changing things up for album number two, B.o.B isn’t going to stray far from the concept that brought him so much success with Bobby Ray : Specifically, avoiding any and all preconceived notions of what hip-hop should be. Which, in one way, is probably going to make his album feel very much like the first time. “You should never get comfortable,” he said. “I feel like, for me, I embrace everything.” What do you expect B.o.B’s next album to sound like? Designer Drugs ‘Tell A Story’ On Hardcore/Softcore Album

Pennsylvania dance duo are set to take the stage at SXSW and Miami’s Ultra Music Festival. By Adam Stewart Designer Drugs Photo: MTV It’s been a long road for Pennsylvania electronic duo Designer Drugs, but for Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson, that’s half the fun. Having been making music together for well over 10 years, the duo recently debuted their second album, Hardcore/Softcore, on Ultra Records and have been thrust into the ever-expanding American dance-music audience. Now, on the heels of the album’s second single, “Through the Prism,” featuring rapper and fellow Brooklynite Cerebral Vortex, Designer Drugs are poised to bring their unique brand of grind-house electronic to the masses Thursday night (March 17) at Austin, Texas’ South by Southwest, followed by a huge set on the Live Stage at Ultra Music Festival in Miami on March 25. “We started doing a lot of remixes and just trying to make a specific kind of music,” Patrick told MTV News. “But now, with the album, we are just doing whatever we want and making more of an electronic album.” “We had, like, a hundred songs and riffs,” Nelson added. “And we just basically picked ones we thought were the best for the album and put them all on. We didn’t really have a good idea of what we wanted to accomplish, but it ended up being what it was and we were pretty happy with it at the end.” Kicking things off with the first single “Drop Down,” a wobbly synth monster reminiscent of an edgy Prodigy-esque sound garnished with Gregorian chants, the vibe DD bring to the dance-music game is unique and captivating. Hardcore/Softcore brings the art of an album back to the table, melding full-length tracks with melodic interludes. “I think it kind of helped to tell a story for this album, but we didn’t plan it,” Patrick said. “Nothing for this album was really planned. It all kind of happened; we wrote all the music and then kind of linked it together.” “We just thought, ‘This sounded cool, but let’s not make it an entire song; let’s just kind of put it in there and see what happens,’ ” Nelson added. “But we do listen to a lot of old classic-rock stuff, too, like Pink Floyd and all that other stuff. So there was a little bit of influence from there.” Will you be catching Designer Drugs on the Live Stage of Ultra Music Festival in Miami? Let us know in the comments below!
