Alex Trebek Shares Sad Cancer Update, Needs Chemotherapy Again

Alex Trebek has some very unfortunate news to share. About four months after the Jeopardy! host told fans he was in ” near remission ” after having been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer… … the beloved television personality is here to say otherwise. In an interview that aired on Tuesday’s Good Morning America, the long-running Jeopardy! host revealed that he’s once again undergoing chemotherapy. “The doctors have decided that I have to undergo chemo again and that’s what I’m doing,” Trebek explained, adding: “I was doing so well and my numbers went down to the equivalent of a normal human being who does not have pancreatic cancer, so we were all very optimistic. “They said, ‘Good, we’re gonna stop chemo, we’ll start you on immunotherapy’ and I lost about 12 pounds in a week and my numbers went sky-high, much higher than they were when I was first diagnosed. It doesn’t sound like the 79-year old is feeling his best, either. Alex Trebek Offers Cancer Update “My hair started to grow back, but now I have to undergo chemo again, so what little hair I have grown [this summer] is going to disappear again,” he told GMA’s T.J. Holmes. “In terms of getting my strength back, that hasn’t happened, unfortunately.” Trebek, who revealed his cancer diagnosis on March 6 , has also lost a lot of weight of late. About 12 pounds in a week, to be exact. The host proceeded to tell GMA that “cancer is mysterious in more ways than one,” and that battling it has taken a tough toll on his body. “It has different effects on you,” he said. “For some reason, and I don’t understand why, occasionally it will cause excruciating pain in my lower back. Other times it’s fatigue, other times it’s nausea. It varies.” The terrible truth is that Trebek has one of the most aggressive types of cancer out there. The five-year survival rate is extremely small and the median survival rate for people diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer is three to six months. It is incurable. Trebek says he sometimes feels a “surge of sadness and depression,” but he also plans to continue hosting the game show for as long as he can “walk out and greet the contestants.” And as for death, Trebek said that he isn’t concerned. “I realize that there is an end in sight for me just as there is for everyone else,” he says. “One line that I have used for our staff in recent weeks and months is that when I do pass on, one thing they will not say at my funeral is, ‘Oh, he was taken too soon.'” But he disagrees with this predicted assessment. “I’m 79 years old. I’ve had one hell of a good life and I’ve enjoyed it. “And the thought of passing on doesn’t frighten me. It doesn’t. Other things do. The effect it’ll have on my loved ones, yes that bothers me, it makes me sad. “But the thought of myself moving on? Hey folks, it comes with the territory.” This is what Trebek said back in March: Just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Now, normally the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m gonna fight this and I’m gonna keep working and with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease. We wish him all the best. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Beat Cancer

Alex Trebek Raps on Jeopardy, Is Totally Lit

Over the years on Jeopardy, Alex Trebek has frequently impressed viewers with his rapping skills. Remember when he spit out lyrics to Drake's “Jumpman ?” Or when he went all Fresh Prince of Bel-Air on us? Both are great clips, to be sure, but neither compares to the fun Trebek had this week throughout an entire category on the College Tournament of Champions. The category was titled “Let’s Rap, Kids!” It required Trebek to read lyrics from such smash hits as Drake’s “Started from the Bottom,” Lil Wayne's “6 Foot 7 Foot,” Kanye West’s “Famous” and Desiigner’s “Panda.” 'Cause the F is for Finisher, people! Lamented Trebek when the category was over: “I was just getting into this rap thing. I’m not too good at it, but I was getting into it.” Eh, we don't know. For a 76-year old white guy from Canada? Trebek isn't bad! Some might even say he was “lit” during the episode. Would YOU say this? Watch the beloved game show host rap away and decide for yourself:

Ivanka Trump "Attacked" Aboard Flight, Apparently Flies Jet Blue

You can’t help who your parents are, but you do have a say in who you help get elected president, which may be why the sight of Donald Trump’s children elicits such a visceral reaction of disgust from so many Americans. Ivanka Trump may not be looked down upon with the sort of disdain reserved for noted Patrick Bateman look-alikes Donald Trump, Jr. and Eric Trump, but she’s not exactly beloved at the moment. So while it’s not all that surprising that Ivanka got an earful when she deigned to fly commercial this morning. Several media outlets are claiming that Ivanka was “attacked” aboard a Jet Blue flight this morning.  Now, before you get too upset, you should know that this was a “verbal attack,” and later reports clarified that Ivanka was “harassed” by an “out of control passenger.” Still decidedly not cool, especially since Ivanka was with her kids, and everything is approximately 800 times scarier aboard an airplane. But obviously, nowhere near as severe as we were initially led to believe. The passenger was removed from the plane, but not before giving Ivanka an unwelcome piece of his mind. And what did the guy have to say? Well, nothing Ivanka hasn’t heard before. “Your father is ruining the country,” he reportedly shouted. He followed that (valid) observation with another solid point, asking: “Why is she on our flight? She should be riding private.: Yeah – why is Ivanka on a Jet Blue flight? Like, no offense to JB – we dig the seat-back TVs and the on-brand blue tortilla chips – but did Ivanka forget her last name when she booked this flight? Not only does Donald Trump own a private jet and talk it about freakin’ constantly, one of his first duties as president-elect was to brag about his insider knowledge of the air travel industry. So the news that his daughter and her kids are sipping Dunkin’ Donuts coffee aboard a discount airline flight is more surprising than the news that other passengers aren’t crazy about Ivanka. Interestingly, this isn’t even the first Trump-related midair kerfuffle since the election. Last month Delta banned a Trump supporter for life after he was caught on video berating female passengers for voting for Hillary Clinton. Fortunately, Ivanka is moving to Washington, D.C. , despite her earlier promise to remain in New York City, so she won’t have to get harassed by airborne plebes every time she wants to participate in the upcoming 4-year sh-tshow of a presidency. Cindy Stowell: Jeopardy Pays Tribute to Late Champion

Alex Trebek and the folks behind Jeopardy have paid special tribute to a special contestant. As many followers of this world famous game show are aware of by now, Cindy Stowell recently competed on the program, despite a diagnosis of Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Not only did she compete, Stowell won. Over and over and over again. The 41-year-old science content developer (from Austin, Texas) actually won a six games overall, donating her winnings to cancer research efforts. Tragically, however, she died on December 5, prior to her winning efforts being televised for all to see. The story, however, captured a nation; and it prompted Alex Trebek to record a message in honor of Stowell after her final episode aired on Wednesday night. “This past six Jeopardy! programs, you folks have been getting to know the talented champion Cindy Stowell,” Trebek says in the message. “Appearing on the show was a lifelong ambition for that lady – what you did not know is that when we taped these programs with her a few weeks ago, she was suffering from stage 4 cancer, and sadly, on December 5, Cindy Stowell passed away. “So from all of us here at Jeopardy!, our sincere condolences to her family and her friends.” And from all of us at The Hollywood Gossip, we say the same. Watch Jeopardy salute this late champion below:

Alex Trebek VS Nerdcore Nerds of the Day

One of the contestants on Jeoparty Jeopardy was talking about the music she loves or listens to called Nerdcore, which she goes onto explain is people rapping about being nerds, into comic books, unable to find romantic partners…basically what I call virgin losers who are the only people who read this site, and who occasionally break out of their mom’s basement with some dot com billion dollar company…where they are celebrated and pussy is thrown at them…they even let you grab them in the pussy…just to have a taste of your very valuable semen…so they can throw it back into their twat and get pregnant so that they can retire…but I generally think they just sit around playing video games – getting fatter and fatter – greasier and greasier and cum scented because all that masturbating gets into their pours and is hard to wash out when you don’t wash…eventually finding a really fat lonely chick in the same situation as them – who they can do sci/fi fanatasy – comicon things together…but usually they just die alone… And who Alex Trebek calls losers…to their loser faces…because he’s rich off loser nerds he calls losers…cuz he’s winning! Alex Trebek to Jeopardy Contestant: You’re a Loser!!!

You don’t troll Alex Trebek and get away with it. A contestant named Buzzy Cohen found this out the hard way back in May of this year. But if/when Alex Trebek trolls YOU?  Well, you suck it up and take it and accept that you’re about to be on the wrong end of a hilarious viral video. Susan Cole just found this out the embarrassing way. On Wednesday night’s episode of Jeopardy, Trebek asked Cole what the “nerdcore” was about, as this was a piece of biographical information she had mentioned to producers. He prefaced his question by saying the concept “doesn’t sound like fun.” C But Cole tried to explain one of her hobbies so that Trebek and viewers at home would have more respect for it. It’s safe to say she failed, however. “It’s people who identify as nerdy, rapping about the things they love,” Cole explained. “Video games, science fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners. It’s really catchy and fun.” How did Trebek respond to this description? WATCH AND FIND OUT: Alex Trebek Slams Jeopardy Contestant as a “Loser” HA! How amazing is that? We feel a little bad for Cole, of course. Just look at the expression on her face when Trebek comes right out and calls her a “loser.” But she’s merely the latest in a long line of contestants to feel the icy cold wrath of an Alex Trebek burn. We can’t think of any this overt, but come on. Who can be mad at Alex Trebek? Remember when he rapped The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song? Alex Trebek Raps Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Theme Song Or when he ran down a hotel hallway naked and t ore his Achilles while apprehending a criminal ? Trebek is a global treasure. Hopefully Cole just considers herself lucky for even sharing the same stage as Trebek. Oh, and she also won $20,600 on the episode. So she ended the evening as a winner, even if she’ll always be a loser in the game show host’s book. That’s not too shabby. View Slideshow: 26 Great Moments in Game Show History

Weekend Receipts: 50/50’s the Strongest Newcomer in a Dolphin-Safe Weekend

Last week’s box office roundup featured three movies that garnered $20 million, which makes this week’s tally feel like an unassuming, but pleasant showing. Yes, Moneyball and Dolphin Tale are still garnering identical figures at the top of the leaderboard, but 50/50 earned back its whole budget in just its first three days at the multiplex. If Contagion stirred up a moviegoer fever, then 50/50 is a mildly throbbing tumor of success.

Judging Kid Star Thomas Horn’s Performance in Extremely Loud… Based Only on His Jeopardy! Expertise

Thomas Horn, who plays the 9-year-old protagonist in this winter’s Tom Hanks/Sandra Bullock feature Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (which is gaining Oscar steam), gives a somewhat stilted first impression in the movie’s trailer. He came off much stronger as a champion on Jeopardy! , where he towered over last year’s Kids Week with a $31,800 finish. I say we judge his potential based on his Trebekian skills, not his trailer prowess. Which categories did he soar in? And are they helpful when solving Tom Hanks’s key riddle?

A Candid, Emotional Interview With Watson, Jeopardy!’s Winning Supercomputer

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, a computer named Watson scored a runaway triumph in this week’s Jeopardy! IBM Challenge, defeating two of the game show’s most legendary champions — Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter — en route to a $1 million prize. (IBM will donate the winnings to charity.) But the road to victory was not without a few sizable bumps, and in an exclusive chat this morning with Movieline, Watson discussed some of the difficulties encountered on his way to the finish line — and how his real challenge begins now.
