Taylor Lautner Out Of ‘Stretch Armstrong’

“Twilight” star drops out of big-screen adaptation of elastic Hasbro toy. By Kara Warner Taylor Lautner Photo: Getty Images Bad news for those looking forward to seeing Taylor Lautner as super bendy, slightly superheroic “Stretch Armstrong”: He’s officially out of the big-screen treatment of the popular ’70s Hasbro toy. MTV News confirmed Lautner’s departure with a source close to the production. According to The Wrap , Lautner had to drop out of the film due to scheduling conflicts. The “Twilight” heartthrob is reportedly set to begin work on an independent film with Oscar-winner Gus Van Sant . Relativity Media announced Monday (January 30) that it will take over production of the film from Universal. The studio has inked a distribution deal with Hasbro. The movie was originally slated to be released in 2012, but it will now hit theaters on April 11, 2014. A new cast is expected to be announced shortly. When MTV News asked Lautner about “Stretch Armstrong” last year, he seemed excited to explore the unknown with “Armstrong,” since the film version is a brand-new concept and not a reboot or sequel. He also admitted that the character’s superpower — the ability to stretch one’s body parts to extremes — is hardly super at all. “It’s like the worst superhero power, possibly, to get, and how you’re going to take that and use it for good and how you’re going to be creative with that [is the predicament],” Lautner said. “The awesome thing with toys is it doesn’t give you a story line, so you get to create it.” Although no creative decisions have been made yet, “Muppets” and “Get Him To The Greek” screenwriter Nick Stoller [http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/05/19/stretch-armstrong-similar-to-iron-man/] was originally attached to write the script and has said the film would be an origin story similar to the tone set in “Iron Man.” Who should fill Taylor Lautner’s spot in “Stretch Armstrong”? Britney Spears Has ‘Crazy’ Cameo On will.i.am’s Album?

Black Eyed Peas mastermind teases a collabo with the pop princess on #willpower, set for 2012 release. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Max Morse/Getty Images In a sea of A-list contributions for will.i.am’s forthcoming solo album, the Black Eyed Peas mastermind recently dropped one name that will really get pop fans excited. Speaking with Capital FM , will teased that his Femme Fatale collaborator Britney Spears will make an appearance on the album, dubbed #willpower. “I have a song with Alicia Keys — me, Alicia and Swedish House Mafia. I have a song with the Beats, which is pretty grand. Me and Shakira have been trying to finish the stuff we started, and me and Britney is really crazy,” he said. “So we got a song with me, LMFAO and Eva Simons, a song with me and Busta Rhymes and Swizz Beatz — I got a whole other bunch of collaborations.” Spears and will.i.am last worked together on “Big Fat Bass,” a spacey, grinding party tune complete with clapping noises and some rapping from will himself. Their recording session was featured on the MTV special “I Am the Femme Fatale.” There’s been no word yet from will’s camp about the song and whether this is a new track or if he will be including “Big Fat Bass” on the album. The rapper/producer’s love for Brit is hardly anything new: He gushed to MTV News about the pop princess months after they recorded together. “[I discovered] her love for music. I never seen anyone, like, come alive, full of excitement and giggling and laughing behind the mic,” will recalled to MTV News. “She was like a little kid when she was recording the song, and it just brought the whole atmosphere, it changed the whole atmosphere when someone really loves music. So it was great working with her.” His latest single, “T.H.E (The Hardest Ever),” featuring Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger, dropped late last year. #willpower, which also features “X Factor” judge Nicole Scherzinger, will be released later this year. Ramiro Garcia Brings ‘Grace’ To ‘American Idol’

Cortez Shaw, Kristine Osorio and Skylar Laine also make an impression on the judges during Texas auditions. By Adam Graham Ramiro Garcia auditions on “American Idol” Thursday Photo: Michael Becker / FOX The “American Idol” judges have mostly seen eye-to-eye (to eye) so far this season, with the majority of contestants being passed through to Hollywood or sent back home by unanimous vote. But on Thursday’s (January 26) episode, we saw several disagreements between the judges, with Jennifer Lopez giving singers a passing grade while Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson flunked them. It was implied but not explicitly spelled out that the boys were voting on looks more than voices, angering Lopez to the point where she mock-stabbed Tyler in the head with a pen. The dissension continued with contestant Linda Williams, whose version of Alicia Keys’ “Fallin’ ” seemed shaky, though it was good enough — or her looks were — to earn “yes” votes from Tyler and Jackson. “Wake up! Honestly, I feel like somebody slipped you something,” Lopez told Jackson, as she could sense which way he was leaning. It wasn’t enough to dissuade the Dawg, and after Williams was passed through to Hollywood, Lopez moaned to her fellow judges, “That was awful. That was awful!” Let the drama begin! The latest episode did its best to ramp up the drama factor, taking a detour from the happy-go-lucky vibe that has purveyed over the first four episodes of the season. Even though the Galveston, Texas, auditions gave out 54 Golden Tickets — more than any other audition city so far this season — the show highlighted fewer of those winners than any other episode, instead introducing viewers to oddballs and wannabes , in keeping with years past. Is this the producers’ way of reacting to the show’s slipping ratings ? The night’s warmest story belonged to 28-year-old Ramiro Garcia, a worship leader in Houston who was born without ears and was told he would grow up mute. After several surgeries, doctors discovered his ear canal ,and he taught himself to not only speak but to sing. His husky, smoky version of “Amazing Grace” was a standout. Tyler told him, “I like your insides” — a weird compliment, to be sure, but it was enough to give Garcia a pass through to Hollywood. Another standout was 20-year-old Cortez Shaw of Garland, Texas, who put a warm R&B twist on Adele’s “Someone Like You” and instantly won the favor of the judges, who implied they’d heard far too many botched versions of 2011’s #1 sob song. Shaw said he grew up bouncing between his friends’ homes while his single mother struggled with homelessness, but he put a positive spin on everything and came out ahead. And he’s not lacking for confidence: “I’m gonna win ‘American Idol,’ ” he said after earning his Golden Ticket to Hollywood. “OH MY GOD!” Kristine Osorio also sang an Adele song — “One and Only” — and equally wowed the judges. The 28-year-old mother of three from Amarillo, Texas, was praised by Tyler for her upper register, and her slick hairdo and tattooed upper body give her a strong, unique look. Also graduating through to Hollywood were 17-year-old Skylar Laine from Brandon, Mississippi, a deer-killin’, ATV-ridin’ country gal who was more than convincing singing Pistol Annies’ “Hell on Heels,” and Baylie Brown, a 21-year-old who made it through to Hollywood back in season six and return this year on the strength of her country-fried rendition of Bon Jovi’s “Bed of Roses.” “American Idol” is back Wednesday to put a bird on it with a trip to Portland, Oregon. Exclusive: Megaupload’s CEO Is Not Swizz Beatz, But He’s Still Interested

‘He’s not walking away from this,’ a source close to Swizz tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Swizz Beatz Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Swizz Beatz is not the CEO of Megaupload, the file-sharing website that was shut down by the federal government on January 19, as was previously reported. A source very familiar with Swizz’s situation cleared the air for MTV News late Saturday night, but contends that the multi-platinum producer is still seriously involved with the company, though he wasn’t named in the federal indictment against Megaupload and is no way connected to the crimes of which they are being accused. “He’s not walking away from this,” the source told MTV News. Before Megaupload was shut down, Swizz Beatz (nee Kasseem Dean) was listed on the company’s “About Us” page as the CEO. The source, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed that while Beatz, husband to R&B star Alicia Keys, was in negotiations to run the company, the ink on the deal wasn’t dry. So why was Swizz’s name listed as CEO on Megaupload’s site? “They put that up prematurely,” our source said. On Thursday, the feds shut down the site and arrested several members of the company, hitting them with multiple racketeering and copyright infringement charges. A federal indictment alleges that the site, which allows users to transfer large files, has generated more than $175 million in criminal proceeds and cost copyright-holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated movies, albums and other materials. The company’s founder, Kim Dotcom (a.k.a. Kim Schmitz), was among those arrested. However, the crimes that Megaupload is being accused of all pre-date Swizz’s involvement, MTV News was told. Swizz, who has produced for DMX, Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige, to name a few, became involved with the company over the last several months. Beatz, as well as Kanye West, Diddy, will.i.am and other notable musicians, appeared in a series of video testimonies and even a music video that supported Megaupload’s efforts. According to our source, Swizz and Megaupload were exploring “new ways of getting music to consumers,” and we were told that the producer/rapper is still excited by the possibilities. After the legal matter is resolved, it is still possible that Swizz Beatz will officially join Megaupload as the company’s CEO. What do you think of Swizz’s involvement with Megaupload and it’s shut-down by the feds? Tell us in the comments. Related Artists Swizz Beatz

Shook Ones: CEO Of Megaupload Swizz Beatz Preparing To Get Grilled By The Feds For His Involvement In File-Sharing Website

Looks like Swizzy is gearing up to be questioned about his site Megaupload that was shut down by the FBI due to piracy claims: Alicia Keys’ husband, Swizz Beatz, was tangled in crisis meetings with his legal team on Friday as the music producer faces possible questioning by the FBI. Beatz is CEO of Megaupload, a file-sharing Web site shuttered by the feds Thursday over Internet piracy claims. Four of the site’s top executives were arrested, but Beatz was not named in the 72-page indictment filed Thursday by the Justice Department. Sources tell us Beatz believes he may be questioned by the FBI and is considering hiring a criminal defense lawyer. If convicted, the arrested executives could face up to 50 years in prison for the largest copyright case in history. Beatz “expects to be questioned by the FBI,” a source close to his camp told us. “He’s the CEO of the site.” When Page Six first revealed last week that Beatz was CEO of the Hong Kong-based file-sharing site, Megaupload lawyer Ira Rothken didn’t dispute Beatz’s position in the organization and acknowledged that Beatz persuaded Kanye West, Will.i.am and Sean “Diddy” Combs to participate in a promotional video for the site. Rothken changed his tune Friday, telling the blog Venturebeat that “[Beatz] was negotiating to become the CEO, but it was never official.” Rothken didn’t get back to us to explain his altered view. Sources tell us Beatz has been CEO of the company for close to a year. “Swizz is satisfied that he isn’t being investigated for any wrongdoing because had this been the case, they would have picked him up at the same time as the others,” a source said. “Swizz had no idea this was coming. He is very much in the dark about this investigation.” Hmmmm….we’re interested to see how this thing turns out. Source

The 9 Lives (And Jobs) Of Swizz Beatz

Who knew Swizz Beatz was actually getting “Arab Money?” As the CEO of MegaUpload, Swizz has got a lot of legal issues to face with the Federal Government, seeing as how they’ve shut down the music-sharing site. It’s quite interesting that an industry veteran could head up a site that provides free music of his peers. Not only that, but Swizz managed to get Chris Brown, Kanye, Snoop and other A-list recording artists to support the site with the Mega Upload Song . Maybe I’ve been living under a rock, but I had no clue Swizz Beatz was a man of many jobs and talents. Swizz is a modern-day Renaissance man, opening himself up to more than just music and allowing his passions to run deep in everything from fashion to art. As I began to research the multi-hyphenate mogul, I became increasingly impressed with his accomplishments. He’s the definition of ambitious and even though SOPA’s trying to bring down one of his latest ventures, Swizz will be just fine without this CEO title. So, take that SOPA. Check out the 9 different impressive jobs that Swizz is able to juggle and still wear the hats of husband and father. 1. DJ: This is how Mr. Dean got his start in music. He scored some deejaying equipment from his stepfather and uncles. 2. Producer: Swizz’s uncles Chivon, Dee and Waah Dean were CEO’s of the Ruff Ryder label and noticed his musical talents and allowed him to produce for their breakout star DMX. At 16, Swizz created the “Ruff Ryder’s Anthem.” 3. Recording Artist: Swizz was signed as a recording artist to Universal/Motown records. He is now signed to Everest Entertainment/Atlantic/Warner. He’s released a compilation album – Swizz Beatz Presents G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories – in 2002 and One Man Band Man in 2007. Haute Living is coming this year. 4. CEO: By 23, Swizz started his own label–Full Surface–with music mogul Clive Davis. He’s also the CEO of Megaupload. 5. Fashion Designer: As if the music was not enough to feed his creativity, Swizz accepted a partnership and brand ambassador to KidRobot, a retailer for limited edition toys, art and clothing. 6. Shoe Designer : The fashion bug bit Swizz and hasn’t let up. He lent his fashion forward expertise to Reebok to create a new line of sneakers. 7. Professor: Swizz taught a music industry course for a year at NYU’s Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music. He even held one-on-one sessions and had office hours. 8. Vice President : Swizz is the VP of Creative Design and Global Marketing for luxury carmaker Lotus. He collaborated with Lotus CEO Dany Bahar to create the look for the sparkling chrome-painted Lotus Evora GTE. 9. Feds Shutdown Swizz Beatz File Sharing Site, Employees Indicted

Read the original:

File sharing site Megaupload.com has been shutdown by the feds! The employees of the massive site were arrested and indicted “for moving mass quantities of illegal music and movie files online.” Swizz Beatz who is listed as CEO of the site, may be in hot water as well! “We have never received any word that any artist has [individually] filed a take-down . . . [we have] legally binding agreements with the performers that appear in the video . . . They promised that they had the rights to enter into that agreement and it’s not interfering with any third-party rights.” says a Mega rep. The NY Daily Post reports: Swizz Beatz has Sean “Diddy” Combs , Kanye West and Will.i.am in hot water with their label by getting them to promote his site, MegaUpload. The CEO of the Internet company, Beatz — also a recording artist, producer and DJ — persuaded the stars to appear in a “Mega Song” video promoting his service, intended to send large media files. The catch is the music industry has been fighting against file sharing, accusing the services MegaUpload offers of supporting piracy. But after the starry promo appeared on YouTube last month, Diddy, Kanye and Will.i.am’s label, Universal Music Group, issued a “take-down notice” to YouTube, saying the artists’ performances were unauthorized.
