Helen Thomas to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award from Council on American-Islamic Relations

Disgraced former White House correspondent Helen Thomas will be receiving a lifetime achievement award next month from the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Coming roughly three months after Thomas was forced to resign from Hearst Newspapers for disgustingly telling Israeli Jews to move back to Germany and Poland and “get the hell out of Palestine,” this is clearly going to raise a lot of eyebrows especially with all the media’s recent hyperventilation over so-called Islamophobia. Consider how the following report from The Hill is going to play in an environment where the press are accusing Americans of being anti-Muslim (h/t Hot Air headlines ): The longtime White House correspondent who resigned from Hearst newspapers in June in the wake of comments she made about Israel will receive a lifetime achievement award from the Council on American-Islamic Relations. CAIR is honoring Helen Thomas, who is of Lebanese descent and now 90 years old, at its  Leadership Conference and 16th Annual Fundraising Banquet  on Oct. 9 in Arlington, Va. Speakers will also include Oxford Islamic studies scholar Tariq Ramadan.  What does this tell us about CAIR’s sensitivities concerning the current debate over supposed anti-Muslim sentiment in this country, especially with the announcement coming while America is involved in hopefully fruitful peace negotiations with Israel and the Palestinians? After all, this Islamic organization is giving a lifetime achievement award to a woman with a history of anti-Semitic remarks who was just months ago forced to resign for doing so. Do they know what this says to Jews and supporters of Israel in this country? Doesn’t it give the appearance that all you have to do as a journalist in America is bash Jews and Israel and you’ll be given an award from our nation’s leading pro-Islamic organization? This certainly doesn’t seem to be the message you’d like to be sending while America tries to negotiate peace in the Middle East and struggles with religious tensions within its own borders. As for Thomas and all of her former employers as well as supporters, we hope you’re proud of yourselves.

FNC Cites MRC, NewsBusters on Media Indicting America as Islamophobic

On Saturday’s Fox News Watch, host Jon Scott picked up on a recent “Media Reality Check” report by the Media Research Center – parent organization to NewsBusters – titled “Smearing America as Islamophobic,” which documented that the mainstream media have portrayed America as Islamophobic because of public opposition to the Ground Zero mosque. Scott: “The Media Research Center, Jim, released a study this week titled ‘Smearing America as Islamophobic.’ The overall thrust is that networks like NBC, CBS, ABC are calling these protests at Ground Zero, protests over the mosque, Islamophobia. Do they have a point?’” After panel member Jim Pinkerton of the New America Foundation voiced his agreement with the MRC’s findings, Scott seemed to pick up on another MRC/NewsBusters item as he quoted ABC’s Christiane Amanpour from last week’s This Week show when she portrayed America as Islamophobic. Scott: “Let me read you a quote from Christiane Amanpour… At the top of her show on Sunday, she noted the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that had just passed, and she said, ‘She said nine years later, the growing hostility toward Muslim-Americans. Not since 9/11 has the country seen such anti-Muslim fervor,’ and said, ‘Muslim-Americans are feeling vulnerable.’ Where’s her proof?” Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Saturday, September 18, Fox News Watch on FNC: JON SCOTT: The Media Research Center, Jim, released a study this week titled “Smearing America as Islamophobic.” The overall thrust is that networks like NBC, CBS, ABC are calling these protests at Ground Zero, protests over the mosque, Islamophobia. Do they have a point? JIM PINKERTON: I think they do. I think the facts speak for themselves. I mean, the mere fact that the media would so consciously take the imam’s side in this battle, and every high-minded liberal journalist and columnist in the country says, is obligated to say, “Yes, we must build the mosque,” when the big question is, and I think Judy said this a few weeks ago, there’s no evidence they have the money. Forget the right or wrong of the thing. They’re about 100 million behind where they need to build this thing. SCOTT: Ellis, let me read you a quote from Christiane Amanpour, one of your favorites I’m sure. At the top of her show on Sunday, she noted the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that had just passed, and she said: “She said nine years later, the growing hostility toward Muslim-Americans. Not since 9/11 has the country seen such anti-Muslim fervor,” and said, “Muslim-Americans are feeling vulnerable.” Where’s her proof?

AP Shocker: Bush Tax Cuts Didn’t Just Help The Rich

For almost ten years, the Bush tax cuts have been depicted by media as only helping rich people. Now, with them set to expire, and a Democrat in the White House desperately needing a stronger economy to help him and his Party’s political fortunes, the Associated Press is telling readers the truth with the following headline: Expiring Tax Cuts Hit Taxpayers at Every Level     If you think that’s amazing, wait until you see the contents : A typical family of four with a household income of $50,000 a year would have to pay $2,900 more in taxes in 2011, according to a new analysis by Deloitte Tax LLP, a tax consulting firm. The same family making $100,000 a year would see its taxes rise by $4,500. Wealthier families face even bigger tax hikes. A family of four making $500,000 a year would pay $10,800 more in taxes. The same family making $1 million a year would get a tax increase of $53,200. The estimates are based on total household income, including wages, capital gains and qualified dividends. The estimated tax bills take into account typical deductions at each income level. Okay, so putting this in reverse, doesn’t that mean that when these tax cuts were first implemented – you know, when that awful Republican named George W. Bush was president! – a typical family of four with a household income of $50,000 a year saved $2,900 per annum as a result ? And a family making $100,000 a year saved $4,500?  Gosh, that means these tax cuts weren’t just for the rich as virtually every media outlet in America has been claiming since they were first proposed. Makes you wonder how such organizations can stay in business when they do such a terrible job.

Erick Erickson Smacks Down CNN’s Bash for Calling Voter Anger Racist

Are you getting tired of hearing liberal media members claim the voter anger around the country is all because Barack Obama is black? RedState Editor and CNN contributor Erick Erickson is, for on Wednesday’s “John King USA,” he let Dana Bash have it for reiterating this insulting accusation. “Talking to Democrats, I know you have, privately, will say some of the anger they hear in their districts, they say there’s no doubt some of it is latent racism,” uttered Bash. Erickson was having none of if responding, “Oh, good lord…It’s the last best trick of a losing Democrat, is to accuse the Republicans of racism.” When Erickson concluded his reply by stating Obama’s “world view is fundamentally anti-American,” a heated discussion between him and CNN’s Roland Martin ensued (video follows with transcript and commentary): DANA BASH, CNN CONGRESSIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Talking to Democrats, I know you have, privately, will say some of the anger they hear in their districts, they say there’s no doubt some of it is latent racism. They can’t prove it — ERICK ERICKSON, CNN CONTRIBUTOR: Oh, good lord. When Republicans start talking, they scream racism. It’s the last best trick of a losing Democrat, is to accuse the Republicans of racism. The issue here has nothing to do with race. The issue has to do with nobody, Republican or Democrat, has figured out what this guy’s world view is. And the Republicans are starting to set the narrative for 2012 already that this guy’s world view is fundamentally anti-American. ROLAND MARTIN, CNN POLITICAL ANALYST: Erick, you’re not going to sit here and say the president of the United States who is sworn to defend and protect the constitution, has an anti-American view. No what he wants to do — ERICKSON: I think he has a view of America that views America as one of many nations and not the last best hope for mankind. MARTIN: First, if you look at facts, Erick, we are one of many nations, so let’s deal with that. When they have financial crisis taking place across the globe it also affected us, so we can’t act like we’re the only country out here. You will not sit here and call this president anti-American when he represents the United States of America, including you. ERICKSON: I think his world view is an anathema to the American destiny as conservatives have viewed it and I think Newt Gingrich — MARTIN: So what’s your world view? ERICKSON: My world view is that America is the last best hope for mankind for freedom and Obama doesn’t view it that way. MARTIN: It’s President Barack Obama and he is an American and it’s insulting to sit here and have Newt Gingrich talk about this Kenyan view. We know what he was saying there. It made no sense whatsoever. He should be ashamed of himself. And apologize for it. He’s an American and he’s a Christian just in case you were confused. JOHN KING, HOST: I’m going to call it between Roland and Erick here. The other panelists silent during that. I appreciate the respectful debate between the two of you. Nicely done, Erick. This racism schtick by liberal media members is getting old. Are Americans that disagree with Democrat policies going to have to put up with this nonsense until Obama is removed from office? Yes – that’s a rhetorical question.

Stewart & Colbert March to D.C. – Rally to Restore Sanity / Keep Fear Alive 10/30/10

What's that dull, scraping sound? It's Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, sharpening their knuckles for a face-off that promises to be bigger than Nixon/Kennedy, Ali/Foreman, Aniston/Jolie, 50/Nas, Joe/The Volcano, Alien/Predator, Bunny/Fudd and Ecks/Sever combined. On October 30, 2010, Jon and The Daily Show will lead the first-ever Rally to Restore Sanity on the National Mall in Washington D.C. — a movement of “people who have been too busy to go to rallies” — to beg America to stop shouting, throwing and drawing Hitler mustaches on people other than Hitler (or Charlie Chaplin). Not to be outdone, The Colbert Nation is calling on all freedom-loving patriots to challenge The Daily Show's dark, optimistic forces by marching on the Mall at the same time to help Keep Fear Alive. Which side are you on? Visit the rally pages and declare your allegiance! added by: Stoneyroad

‘Real World’ Alum Sean Duffy Talks His Republican Primary Win

‘People are not concerned about a reality show from 15 years ago,’ he says of his congressional run. By Gil Kaufman Sean Duffy Photo: Duffy for Congress If you were watching the election results Tuesday night and the Republican candidate for the U.S. House seat from Wisconsin’s seventh district looked familiar, your eyes weren’t playing tricks on you. Yes, that was Sean Duffy, who appeared on season six of MTV’s “Real World,” raising his hands in victory as he raked in 67 percent of the vote. The county prosecutor will now go on to face Senator Julie Lassa, the winner of the Democratic primary, in November’s election. Wisconsin native Duffy, 38, currently the district attorney of Ashland County, Wisconsin, is the kind of candidate seemingly custom-made for a political run in the land of cheese. One of 11 kids, he’s an expert log roller and speed climber, with three world titles at the National Lumberjack Championships who has also done color commentary on ESPN’s Great Outdoor Games. “I’m a traditional conservative, and because of the momentum I built and the ideas I’m talking about, a lot of folks in the Republican Party are excited about me,” Duffy said Thursday (September 16) from his car while traversing his district on another endless round of campaign stops. “When I decided to get into the race, they laughed at me, like, ‘Oh, wow, yeah, you’re a great candidate!’ But because of what I’ve done, people have gotten behind me.” Among the Republican heavyweights who’ve endorsed Duffy are former Alaska governor and 2008 vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, Minnesota governor and potential presidential aspirant Tim Pawlenty and another 2008 presidential contender, Mitt Romney. Duffy — who is married to another “Real World” alum, Rachel Campos-Duffy, with whom he has six children — has been re-elected to his current post four times, and he threw his hat in the ring last summer, at a time when the district’s powerful incumbent, 40-year House veteran Democrat David Obey, seemed unbeatable. But not long after he announced his candidacy, Duffy said he was prominently featured in a story on page one of The New York Times about some of the vulnerable chairmen on Capitol Hill, and just 10 days later, Obey announced his retirement. If he’s able to pull off the win, he could be crucial to Republicans taking control of the House of Representatives away from the Democrats. Because his “Real World” stint portrayed him as a bit of a playboy and a na

Michelle Obama’s Burden and the Obamas’ Hard Hearts

It’s tough being the wife of the most powerful man in the world, just ask Michelle Obama. Carla Bruni, who seemed to reveal her distaste for the First Lady in previous pictures, reveals Michelle’s whiny comments in her recent book [Aside: why is a sitting world leader’s spouse writing a tell-all? What tawdriness.] Anyway,  here’s what was allegedly said: Michelle Obama thinks being America’s First Lady is ‘hell’, Carla Bruni reveals today in a wildly indiscreet book. Miss Bruni divulges that Mrs Obama replied when asked about her position as the U.S. president’s wife: ‘Don’t ask! It’s hell. I can’t stand it!’ Details of the private conversation, which took place at the White House during an official visit by Nicolas Sarkozy last March, emerged in Carla And The Ambitious, a book written in collaboration with Miss Bruni. Well, of course the job is difficult-prepared meals, jet-setting, specially designed clothes, lecturing the American people on eating apples is exhausting work. Also, it’s awful. Not out-of-a-job awful. Not repo awful. Not foreclosure awful. Not hungry awful. But, yeah, being First Lady is awful. Michelle Obama and that husband of her’s just don’t quite cast an empathetic image, do they? NPR kvetches about this problem : Is President Obama too rational to be likable? Obama comes across as so self-contained that his personality almost seems like a bubble around him – perhaps even more so than the bubble that surrounds any president, thanks to the Secret Service and all the trappings of the White House. “Obama’s analytic style of decision-making and his unwillingness to show emotion makes it hard for people to relate to him,” says Stephen J. Wayne, a government professor at Georgetown University. If a president is in power during hard times, his relative likability won’t matter so much as his overall job performance. But every president gets judged to a greater or lesser degree according to his personality. Perhaps no president would be doing well in the polls with unemployment near double digits throughout his term. But Obama’s inability to connect on an emotional level with many people has been an additional drag on his approval ratings. Oh yes. It’s the President’s cerebral nonchalance that’s making connection so difficult. How about this idea: Michelle and Barack Obama just don’t care. When an entitled person feels perpetually ripped off, they tend to feel less empathy for those they perceive as ripping them off. So, that lack of empathy; that attitude of being put-upon? That’s genuine no matter how the lib press wants to  rationalize  it away. Stories like these, from  the Politico  help nothing: The White House is fighting back against claims its offshore drilling moratorium will cause dramatic job loses along the Gulf Coast with a new report that says most jobs aren’t gone forever. Only 8,000 to 12,000 jobs will be lost along the Gulf Coast , and most will return once deepwater drilling resumes, says the report to be presented to a Senate panel Thursday. That’s right. ONLY 12,000 families will face the desperation of a lost livelihood and face the stress and strain of keeping their homes during this economic crisis. ONLY. Do the Obamas not grasp the gravity of the economic situation in America today? Do they not grasp their enormous educational, cultural and social privilege long before they ever lucked into the presidency? Or, are they so brainwashed by their own imagined persecution complex that they simply cannot see their remarkable lives for what they are: lucky and fortunate. Michelle Obama is not burdened. The woman doesn’t know from burden. And Barack Obama is not mis-perceived by the American people. They are seeing his cold nature for what it is: hard hearted. No amount of fawning press can obscure what is becoming more obvious. UPDATED: Michelle Obama’s office denies Carla Bruni’s revelation .

TV Networks Smear Christine O’Donnell; Bozell Demands Media Tell the Truth! About Tea Party Victories

Dubbed as “ultra right wing extremist” and “crazy,” Republican candidate Christine O’Donnell and her Tea Party supporters have been smeared by every major broadcast and cable network since she won the Delaware primary against GOP establishment candidate on Tuesday night. NewsBusters publisher and Media Research Center President Brent Bozell reacts : This is mudsliging at its ugliest. Pure character assassination. These networks have never treated a viable Democratic candidate with this level of contempt.  How dare they lecture anyone on manners or decency ever again. The MRC demands the media Tell The Truth! about the Tea Party, its momentum and the revolution of people whose votes are proving America is fed up with Washington. Here are just some of the latest smears by the liberal media: NBC’s KELLY O’DONNELL (Sept. 15 “Today”): “Democratic officials are gleeful and called her an ultra right wing extremist.” ABC’s GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS (Sept. 15 “Good Morning America”) to Republican Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell: “We saw that the Republican Party chairman in Jon Karl’s piece there, he went on to say, that you’re ‘not a viable candidate.’ That you ‘cannot be elected dog catcher in Delaware.’ He went on to say that you’re either a liar or mentally unhinged.” MSNBC’s MIKE BARNICLE (Sept. 16 “Morning Joe”): “The larger problem she has, I would submit, is this: that ‘different’ this year, for a candidate, is good. People are looking for ‘different’ this year. ‘Crazy’ is not good. CNN’s JOY BEHAR (Sept. 15 “Joy Behar Show”): “She needs to watch some porn and get some tips, is what she needs.” CBS’s NANCY CORDES (Sept. 15 “Early Show”): “The chair of her own state party called O’Donnell, ‘a liar who could not be elected dog catcher,’ and yet, the tea party conservative easily defeated the well-known Mike Castle, 53 to 47%. O’Donnell, a former marketing consultant with a checkered financial record, was a dark horse until two weeks ago…” Be sure to click here to learn how you can do your part to Demand the Liberal Media Tell the Truth!
