My favorite quirk about the WarioWare series is that it takes the average gamer longer to explain one of the series’ crazy microgames than it does to play it. The series, which has always tapped into our collective instincts built upon a lifetime of gaming, brings it all full circle with the latest DS installment, WarioWare D.I.Y. Andrew Pfister played quite a few of the game’s premade levels and sampled many of the user-created microgames for his review. Here’s a choice quote: “Just in the first week after the game’s release, it’s already evident that there are some highly creative people hard at work making games based on their favorite NES games, inside meme-related jokes, or like me, an entire suite of games based on the frustrations of air travel. Let’s hope Nintendo keeps supporting this initiative, highlighting the best of the best, and nurturing America’s aspiring amateur game developers.” I like WarioWare as is, so the information pretty much drives home my desire to pick it up. ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Tops ‘American Idol’ In Ratings For First Time

One analyst cites a weak batch of singers on ‘Idol’ and the ‘Gosselin effect’ on ‘DWTS’ for the ratings flip-flop. By Kelley L. Carter Tony Dovolani and Kate Gosselin on “Dancing With the Stars” Photo: ABC Having a strong cast of dancing celebrities has paid off. For the first time in the history of “Dancing With the Stars,” the ABC show has outpaced Fox’s “American Idol,” pulling in stronger ratings last week. According to The Associated Press, Nielsen announced Tuesday (April 6) that nearly 23 million people watched “Dancing” a week ago, compared to 21.8 million people watching “Idol” on Tuesday and 20.5 million on Wednesday. The 2010 Cast Of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ “Dancing” is likely benefiting from the much-talked-about cast for its 10th season, including former “Baywatch” babe Pamela Anderson and Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger. Don Seaman, a communications analyst for MPG America, told the AP that the ratings can be attributed to a weaker batch of singers on “Idol” and a certain tabloid favorite signing up for “Dancing With the Stars.” “I chalk it up to the Gosselin effect,” Seaman said, referring to Kate Gosselin, the mother of eight kids, who this week danced a paso doble to Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi,” a song the reality star said speaks directly to her. Fox noted the difference in the two shows’ demographics: “Idol” has a firm grip on the 18- to 49-year-olds, while 60 percent of the “Dancing With the Stars” audience is 50 or older. The wildly popular reality shows go head-to-head again Tuesday night (April 6), so we’ll see who comes out on top. Sega: MadWorld Was A "Mismatch" For Wii Audience

MadWorld was a deeply flawed game, but one I enjoyed immensely. Sega pushed MadWorld onto Wii back when publishers believed the wide audience for Wii games meant there was a gaping hole in games for mature audiences. That theory did no favors for MadWorld , resulting in a disappointing sales launch, which Sega now attributes to an audience “mismatch” for Wii. “Critically it [ MadWorld ] got a lot of acclaim, but commercially it wasn’t the success we wanted it to be,” said Sega of America COO and president Mike Hayes to CVG . “Clearly that was a mismatch with the Wii audience – particularly in terms of the amount of cross-ownership between Wii and the other home platforms. If you’re going to play a mature-rated game, you’re going to get your 360, PC or PS3 out to do so. But you can’t knock us for having a go.” Sega has several times stated having no regret greenlighting MadWorld , only that it didn’t catch on. The lesson from MadWorld seems to be a move towards Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. With Project Natal and PlayStation Move, a sequel or upgraded port doesn’t seem far-fetched. “We were brave in that area,” said Hayes, “but the reality is, Platinum Games is such a cutting-edge developer they need the PS3 or 360 to realise what they actually want to do.” Source: CVG Have something to share? Ugly Betty Miserable Bra Flash of the Day

I don’t like shows about ugly bitches. I don’t think they should even be allowed on TV, since TV is supposed to set the mood and the insecurities of the population and this Ugly Betty bitch throws that off, I guess that’s why it was cancelled, something I was really happy about, but unfortunately, now that they are cancelled, they are pulling all the stops and really letting lose with the shit, with scenes involving America Ferrera, the pig who plays the Ugly bitch because she’s ugly flashing her bra and the whole thing may be exciting to you, but I think should get some execs fined by the FCC or whoever the people who always run after Howard Stern are. This is obscene. Little kids were possibly watching the show with their fat moms who relate to the show…but probbaly not…since no one is watching the show.

Not our words, or Jon Gosselin’s. That’s how Kate was described by judge Bruno Tonioli on Dancing with the Stars . Sadly, that was as good as their critiques got. While her Paso Doble set to “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga wasn’t a travesty on par with her previous two efforts, it was scored similarly. And badly. Kate can’t cut it. She can, however, take out her frustrations on a punching bag pretty well. The stoic mom wasn’t acting there, but her attempt to play a character on the floor? “That was odd,” Carrie Ann Inaba opined. “It was very hard to watch.” Indeed. Here’s Kate’s segment on Monday’s Dancing with the Stars : Kate Gosselin: Punching Bag The judges stopped just shy of overtly telling America not to vote for Kate Gosselin again this week, although Buzz Aldrin actually recevied slightly lower scores. We’ll see if she survives tonight. Another performer who set off fireworks before even taking the stage Monday? Jake Pavelka , for feuding with a certain blonde. No, not airhead fiancee Vienna Girardi. Jake and partner Chelsie Hightower butted heads before doing the quickstep and racking up a not-shabby score of 21. Real Housewives of New York star Kelly Bensimon was in a giving mood last night. The reality TV mainstay walked the runway of “Dressed To Kilt,” a charity fashion show held in The Big Apple. It benefited The Wounded Warrior Project, The Paralyzed Veterans of America and The Erskine Hospital in Scotland. All good causes, no doubt. But Bensimon also gave those in attendance a mini show, as her right nipple sneaked its way out of her top. Heck, it was almost more revealing than Kelly’s lame Playboy spread . Upper Big Branch Mine Blast

Six dead and 21 still missing after the Upper Big Branch Mine Blast yesterday, April 5, 2010. Upper Big Branch mine blast occurred at about 3:00 in the afternoon. Reports said that the possible cause of the Upper Big Branch mine explosion is the methane gas built up in a sealed off area of the mine. The same kind of mine explosion happened last 2006 in Sago where 12 miners killed. Upper Big Branch mine is owned by the Massey Energy and operated by Performance Coal Company. Rep. Nick J. Rahall II said that the mine explosion was the second major disaster in a Massey site. As of now, the Massey Energy and the United Mine Workers of America were helping each other to help the miners left in the mining area. United Mine Workers of America also said that even the Upper Big Branch mine is not part of their union, they’re still willing to help the families of the trapped miners.
