The Smug Reign of John Krasinski Is About to Begin [Catch A Rising Star]

We’re sorry, but it’s coming. Rumor is that the shaggy Office star has the role of Captain America pretty much in the bag . It’d be “a multi-film deal,” which means Jim Halpert is about to get big . This is bad. Look, as actors go, Krasinki is mostly fine . He’s certainly better than an Ashton Kutcher or a Dane Cook. Of the current crop of shaggy-sarcastic funnymen, Krasinksi is definitely not the worst. But his whole hangdog cutie shtick has gotten unbearably tired and downright smug on The Office of late, and his equally grating work in movies like Leatherheads and It’s Complicated — mugging to the camera, oddly broad comedy strokes — have shown that his range doesn’t extend much past the whole cute guy you don’t notice until you do and then you really dooooo acting style. And though Captain America does begin as a nerdy little art student, pretty soon he’s buff and shield-wielding. We don’t see that really working with this muppetish fellow. And besides, the real problem isn’t Krasinski playing the hero in some comic movie that probably won’t be good. It’s that the series could make him a bonafide star , which means more gangly manboy to come — in sadsack modern dramas, in corn-blue romantic comedies, in paranoid urban thrillers. Krasinski is suited well for the small box, and now it seems that he could soon be foisted upon our megaplexes like a great messy-haired American Gerard Butler, an idea that sends an ironic slacker chill through our bones. Kelly Ripa’s Ripped Body in a Dress of the Day

Kelly Ripa is one of the most fertile middle-aged people on Daytime television I’ve jerked off to. I like her little ripped body, even though her saggy, muscular mom tits are something you expect to be a gateway breast for closet cased homos trying to get some level of gay sex withouth being gay or maybe the breasts a reformed Christian gay would jump at after the preacher brainwashed him into thinking he’s not gay because gay is against Jesus, but she still looks good enough for me in all her anorexic, fitness freak glory and I understand why her Mexican husband mounts her at least twice a day, but that’s partially because as a Mexican I know fucking all day is what we are good for and I prove it’s not necessarily what we’re good at, but you don’t have to be good to get a bitch pregnant and along with jumping the border, it’s part of why there are so many of us breeding in America now that we’ve got our passports…all part of the takeover plan. Why Do People Keep Getting Plastic Surgery? [On Beauty]

This may seem like an easily answered question — people get plastic procedures hoping to look young and beautiful forever — but given a recent spate of cosmetic surgery horrorshows, we increasingly just don’t understand why anyone gets “work done.” Look at how plastic surgery is trending, right now ! Remember Heidi Montag ? She’s a character from MTV’s The Hills who used to be a person. That was many moons and several faces ago, and now Heidi looks like this: Bahhh! That’s a new highly humorous PSA about credit card regulations or something, the joke being that Heidi is now entirely made of plastic and chemical, just like the credit cards she’s saying bad things about. You know who directed this thing? Ron Howard . What an enabler! But also, why is Heidi joking about her face and not being able to smile and things like that? I mean, she actually can’t smile and things like that. And she seems to know that. So why would she get the surgeries done in the first place? In her case the reasoning is, yes, fairly obvious. Because she’s dumb and vain and on TV. But she’s also young, only twenty-three years old, and used to look like this . She wasn’t ugly at all! She had nice sorta WASPy, horsey Kennedy features. She’d have fit right in at Hyannis Port! But now… Oh now it’s all an ugly, too-smooth, melony mess. But again, she’s a vain and vapid reality star, one who is paid to be vain and vapid, and who is told by the likes of Ron Howard that if she keeps augmenting herself, we’ll keep paying attention. This is depressing, but vaguely understandable. But what I truly don’t get is how normal people, regular folks like you and your mom, could see those results and still say “Yes, sign me up!” How could they hear about Mexican singer Alejandra Guzman winding up in the hospital, severely unwell, after a botched butt injection , and want to go in themselves. Only to be shocked and horrified when something goes awry for them: Ha ha, a doctor was putting caulk in their ass. (Get it?) I know that people can be, like famous-ish Heidi, vain and dumb creatures (so blinded by vanity they are), but come on. When people found out that Olestra might cause you to poop your pants a little , they dropped that product like a hot potato. Are people really more frightened of the idea of something coming out of their butts than they are with the idea of their butts, in entirety, simply falling off? That’s disheartening. In 2010, that is very disheartening. Call me naive, but so much noise has been made lately about plastic surgery disasters — a conversation resurrected from the ’90s after a brief lull, it feels — that I’m just staggered that so many people, women especially, are subjecting themselves to the possibilities of, at best, having their faces ending up looking like mangled Laffy Taffy and, at worse, contracting fatal butt fall-offitis. Watching the Oscars on Sunday, there were some celebrities who have maybe gotten work and pulled it off — Kathryn Bigelow, at 59, can’t possibly look that good naturally, can she? — but those cases were very rare. Mostly, even in Hollywood circles that can afford the most expensive and exclusive doctors, you get Nicole Kidmans and Meg Ryans. Once-beautiful women who now look like sad, Twilight Zone wax versions of themselves . It seems better, more dignified, to admit to America that, yes, you are in fact a mortal who is affected by time, and let yourself look your age (Meryl Streep), than to strut down a red carpet with an embarrassing bulbous death mask of make-believe skin grafted onto your skull. I guess I just don’t get why, when so much evidence seems to suggest that most of this tucking and stretching and squeezing rarely ever works (the Bravo television channel does a whole series about this fact), we’re still hearing all these nightmare stories about people who willingly went under the knife. I generally like to think that we aren’t that broken of a culture. But maybe we are?

My very own Senator, Mark Begich, is the 50th Senator open to using reconciliation to pass Health Care Reform in this country. Can we get excited yet?

I KNOW that Mark wants to pass this very badly. I spoke to him about that very subject several months ago and he expressed his desire to get the bill passed. He is being very careful, which is called for in the crazy political times we are living in, but he is definitely NOT going to balk if the other 49 senators are ready to do this thing. Thank you for contacting me regarding health care reform. The reconciliation process is a budgetary tool used to address spending and deficit issues with a simple majority vote. The budget reconciliation process has been used 22 times by both parties since 1980. Action to clean up the health reform bill will further reduce the deficit. Comprehensive health care reform has already passed the Senate with 60 votes. If the House passes the Senate bill, the President could sign that version of comprehensive reform into law. I believe reconciliation would only be used as a tool to take out special backroom deals and to eliminate concerns raised by many Alaskans I’ve talked with. The President has proposed narrow changes which I support, including completely closing the coverage gap for seniors’ prescription drugs, eliminating the special Nebraska funding provision, providing additional federal financing to all states to help pay for the expansion of Medicaid, and strengthening the Medicare waste, fraud, and abuse provisions. Again, thank you for contacting me. As the 111th Congress moves forward, please continue to be in touch with your thoughts and concerns. Sincerely, Mark Begich U.S. Senator You can read more by clicking the title and visiting Shannyn’s blog. And by the way speaking of Shannyn, I need to give her a lot of credit for pushing Senator Begich on this issue and repeatedly asking him, both on the radio and in private, what he is going to do. Without Shannyn’s persistence we may still have no idea how Begich was planning to vote. Thank you Shannyn.

America Almost Gets It Right

If a baseball player were to get a hit three out of every four at bats, he’d be a first ballot Hall of Famer. If three out of every four couples on The Bachelor got married, viewers might not consider the show more of a farce than Sarah Palin’s claims to be a serious political figure. Still, when American Idol viewers only get three out of four eliminations correct, the one they overlooked stands out the most. Can anyone out there explain why Lacey Brown will be singing next week, while Michelle Delamor will be watching from home?!? The former simply doesn’t have the voice to compete, while the latter comes across as stiff sometimes, but can undoubtedly carry a major tune. Sigh. We do give America props got eliminating Haeley “I Smile Like a Doll” Vaughn, Jermaine “God is My Homie” Sellers and John “There’s Nothing Special About Me” Park. And after Crystal Bowersox blew us away this week , it’s hard to complain about anything. But Delamor deserved to stick around. It was also nice to see Danny Gokey again. We’ve posted a photo of his performance below, as well as a few more from the results show:

In Video, Audio and Writing, Pentagon Shooter Left Bizarre Internet Trail [Shootings]

Authorities have identified 36 year-old John Patrick Bedell as the man who calmly opened fire at a Pentagon checkpoint Thursday, wounding two police officers before being killed himself. His Internet activity suggests a man with deeply paranoid political views. According to the AP, Bedell walked up to a Pentagon checkpoint at 6:40pm, drew a gun and began shooting. Richard Keevill, the chief of Pentagon police told the AP: “He just reached in his pocket, pulled out a gun and started shooting… He walked up very cool. He had no real emotion on his face.” Here is Bedell, also with no real emotion on his face, as he explains in a Youtube video his complex system of “information currency,” which appears to have been one of his obsessions: Bedell was clearly intelligent; he was an avid software developer and aspiring engineer who worked to develop technology he believed would lead to “liberty and justice. He was nonetheless a certifiable wackjob. Steve Huff at mediaelites has posted a summary of what can be gleaned from Bedell’s Internet activity. Bedell, who had a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, believed the government was behind 9/11, and these beliefs interfaced strangely with an enthusiasm for marijuana legalization and the “Information Currency” system he explains above. Speaking of the suicide of Marine Col. James Sabow—who 9/11 conspiracy theorists believe was assassinated to cover up a 9/11 plot—Bedell wrote on his wikipedia profile (now deleted): I am determined to see that justice is served in the death of Colonel James Sabow, as a step toward establishing the truth of events such as the September 11 demolitions and institutions such as the coup regime of 1963 that mantains itself in power through the global drug trade, financial corruption, and murder, among other crimes. Bedell claims these beliefs led him to attempt to devise a subversive marijuana-based monetary system based on his ideas of Information Currency. He started with a 16-plant growing operation on his balcony in Irving, CA. (In fact, Bedell uploaded a picture of his own pot plant to wikipedia.) Police discovered his plants in June 2006 and he was arrested. The felony complaint, which he posted to a pro-marijuana website, details a contentious arrest: When the police came to Bedell’s door, he wouldn’t let them in and began resisting arrest, pushing against police and collapsing to the floor when they tried to bring hm out of his apartment: Here’s what they found: His marijuana operation thwarted, he appeared to turn his efforts to the Internet and his software development company, Infoenge. (The first post on the company’s blog is October 3, 2006 ) With Infoeng, Bedell working on technology that might someday lead to ” a USB flash drive that performs personal DNA sequencing information “—presumably as a component of his Information Currency scheme. Almost every trace Bedell left on the Internet from that point on displays an obsession with information—storing, retrieving, and revealing it—coupled with boilerplate Libertarian and pro-marijuana ideology. His wikipedia talkpage is a litany of rejected edits, detailing his efforts to insert 9/11 truther dogma into various pages. An Amazon review praises the book Inside Delta Force for its Insights into America’s Secret History He apparently left audio recordings as well, which he posted to the Internet Archive. A two-part address called “Directions to Freedom” which proses “directions to freedom, security, and prosperity, which could be considered his manifesto. “Directions to Freedom” opens with Hello, thank you for listening. I have an intense personal desire for freedom and I need your help so we can, together, continue to enjoy the benefits of freedom and work toward the more perfect realization of liberty and justice in our society. Anyone hoping for a better glimpse at what led Bedell from an obsession with the liberating power of information to violence would probably do well starting with these recordings—which he transcribed on his blog here . What Bedell did was terrible, but any attempt at writing Bedell off as simply a brain-washed Glenn Beck zombie or an idiotic anti-government 9/11 truther can’t capture the complexity of his motivations and the singular weirdness going on in his brain. As a Mediaelites commenter writes, “this guy was one of those dudes to smart for his own good and far from a tea bagger.” [ Infoeng ][ Rothbardix ][ Tekgnosis ][ mediaelites ][ AP ]

Cheryl Cole in Some Leather Lookin’ Pants of the Day

Everyone seems to care about this Cheryl Cole bitch and I’m not really sure why. I am also not really going to bother to look it up. I just know she’s some UK popstar trash with prison tattoos who hasn’t quite made it in America, she’s married to a black soccer player who also hasn’t made it in America and I guess whatever scandal is going on will be milked to get as much media attention as she can going into her move to North America…see there is a big world out there but the entertainment industry in the USA is the top of the pile of shit, it pays the most, the fans are idiots who buy into the bullshit because they have nothing better going on and I’m just happy that she’s wearing these leather lookin’ pants like the whore that she is, not because it’s that hot or exciting but because I have nothing better goin’ on… Pics via Bauer
