As I wrote yesterday, 16-year-old Rachel Mwanza , who gives a remarkable first-time acting performance in the movie has been granted a visa to attend the Oscars. And her big dream is to meet Sasha Fierce during her trip to the United States. War Witch Producer, Marie-Claude Poulin, told the Los Angeles Times that the filmmakers are trying to arrange for the young actress — who was homeless on the streets of Kinshasha when she was cast — meet Beyoncé, her “ultimate idol.” “That’s all she talks about,” Poulin said. “The only English words she knows are Beyonce and Rihanna songs.” I’ve contacted Beyonce’s spokeswoman and a representative for the film to see if there’s been any movement on that meeting happening. A handful of protestors took to the streets outside LAPD headquarters in California yesterday, showing support not so much for the actions of Christopher Dorner, but for the arguments he made against the department. Dorner died on Tuesday of what authorities now say was a self-inflicted gun shot after he was cornered in a cabin in Big Bear, CA. He had been the subject of a massive manhunt following the alleged killing of at least three people, a rampage he claimed on Facebook was tied to his dismissal from the police force in 2009. The protestors say they do not condone Dorner’s killings, but do take issue with how the manhunt was handled, especially how police accidentally shot at two different trucks they believed to be Dorner’s. One woman hit in those incidents is still recovering. “How the police handled this — they were the judge, the jury and the executioner,” a protestor named Michael Nam told The Los Angeles Times . “As an American citizen, you have the right to a trial and due process by law.” The protestors also were rallying against corruption and racism in the LAPD, as the event was organized on Facebook, along with an announcement to keep it “peaceful” and the missive: “This is not a page about supporting the killing of innocent people. It’s supporting fighting back against corrupt cops and bringing to light what they do.”

Chris Brown showed up to a court appearance in Los Angeles on issues related to his probation Wednesday evening with pop star Rihanna by his side. Brown was in court to face accusations that he violated his probation by submitting false community service records in connection with his sentence for assaulting Rihanna in 2009. At the hearing, Superior Court Judge James Brandlin asked for additional reports and set a new hearing date of April 5. Mark Geragos, a lawyer for Brown, told KABC that Brown “didn’t violate anything.” Geragos said the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office “should be ashamed of themselves [because] they besmirched the reputation of Chris Brown based on no evidence.” Brown, by prior agreement, has been completing his community service obligation in his home state of Virgina, but the L.A. County District Attorney claimed in legal documents, posted by the Los Angeles Times, that Brown may have faked his community service work and that documentation of his hours were, “at best sloppy, and at worst fraudulent reporting.” ABC ilp
Amour director Michael Haneke is aware of the parody Twitter account that bears his name, and, as you might expect from a filmmaker who’s made an incredibly intense, Oscar-nominated film about love, life and death, he’s not too worked up about it. @Michael_Haneke has been live on the social media site since November and has amassed more than 15,000 followers by adopting a voice that couldn’t be more at odds with the 70-year-old Austrian filmmaker’s bleak, unsentimental perspective: The Twitter-verse version of Haneke sounds like a tequila-drinking, hip-hop-loving frat boy twink who’s as contemporary as the real director is old school. He also loves to zing Terrence Malick , to remind Ben Affleck that he was not nominated for a Best Director Oscar and to gloat over the five Oscar nominations that Amour got on Jan. 10. That means a lot of laughs, although Haneke doesn’t necessarily see the humor in it. At the Golden Globes on Sunday night, The Los Angeles Times asked the real Haneke about the Twitter parody, and the director told the paper that his students at the Vienna Film Academy where he teaches, “said there was a weird Twitter account.” Then he added: “But I’m not that interested in that kind of thing. When Kristen Stewart was asked about Robert Pattinson on The Today Show this week, she tried to laugh and brush the question off. It was awkward, but mostly calm and successful. But the stress of the situation is clearly getting to the actress, as evidenced by another interview she gave this week to The Los Angeles Times . Alongside Stephenie Meyer, Stewart went into depth about Breaking Dawn Part 2 and The Twilight Saga in general, but somewhat lost her cool when the topic of her personal life was addressed. “People are just going to write the movie version of your life and consume it the way they please. I get the inclination to be entertained by that as well, so go for it. Have at it. Take it. Take it,” Stewart told the reporter. “But you knew nothing about my relationship before. You know less now. How could you?” On Thursday, the topic was also brought up with Pattinson during a chat with Savannah Guthrie. How did the handsome actor reply? In a coy, cool manner, of course. Bad 25 is having its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival , which opened Wednesday, but the Spike Lee -directed documentary, which recalls the late pop-star’s creative process leading up to his follow-up album from his seminal Thriller release. This year marks the 25th anniversary of MJ’s 1987 mega-seller Bad . ABC will broadcast the feature on Thanksgiving in the U.S. after picking up television rights. “This will be a very special Thanksgiving for all families to enjoy the genius of Michael Jackson,” Lee said in a statement as reported by the Los Angeles Times . “Big thanks to ABC for allowing people to witness the making of Michael Jackson’s Bad album.” The film reveals never-seen images of Jackson and more, including footage shot by the King of Pop himself. Spike Lee also interviews choreographers, musicians and collaborators including Martin Scorsese, Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, L.A. Reid and Kanye West. Bad , which was the final collaboration between Jackson and Quincy Jones, contains five number-one hit singles.
