While we patiently wait out the remaining month and a half until Craig Gillespie’s 3-D Fright Night hits theaters, DreamWorks has graciously delivered an apéritif of the horror comedy in the form of four blood-stained international character posters. The most entertaining of which is Colin Farrell’s, who playfully nibbles on a necklace, while offering his sexiest vampire come-hither look to passersby.

‘Fright Night’ Remake Has ‘Changed A Lot,’ Dave Franco Says

‘That movie would not work today,’ actor tells MTV News of 1985 original. By Kara Warner Dave Franco Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic Aside from casting announcements and filming locations, the buzz surrounding the “Fright Night” remake has been relatively quiet of late. Not that the stellar lineup isn’t excitement enough, which includes Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Toni Collette and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. MTV News recently caught up with newly announced castmember Dave Franco (“Scrubs”) to get insider info on his character, as well as his take on the remake of Tom Holland’s 1985 campy horror classic. “I play the a–hole,” Franco said of his character. “It’s fun, but I just keep getting cast as the a–hole, which I don’t know how to take. … I promise, I’m a really nice guy,” he insisted, adding that his character is basically the school bully. “He has no redeeming qualities, so you’re just going to hate me throughout this whole thing and be praying for my death.” Subtle foreshadowing perhaps, Dave? Regarding the new version of the ’85 slasher, Franco said director Craig Gillespie has put his own spin on it. “The original is very campy, very ’80s in an awesome way. … It’s a cult classic. That movie would not work today,” Franco said. “It’s obviously the same concept, but a lot has changed to make everything make sense now. For example, my character wasn’t even in the original, so they’ve changed a lot and added a lot of school elements, just let it build a little more.” Franco went on to say that the one element that will remain unchanged is the gore factor. “I’ve seen some footage of the bloodier scenes, and I personally am a huge horror fan. What I like about this movie is that they’re really going for it,” he said of the film’s hard-R rating. “It is disgusting, but not in, like, a ‘Saw’-type way, where it’s overly horror-porn that’s almost unnecessary. This one, they’re definitely going for it. It’s a hard R.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Fright Night.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Marvel Making A Hulk-Sized Mistake In Avengers Movie?

Marvel Studios has certainly been putting their super-powered ducks in a row with their upcoming superhero ensemble movie, The Avengers . They’ve got Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man, Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and probably even Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. But is Edward Norton no longer Marvel’s pick to play the Incredible Hulk’s alter-ego, puny Bruce Banner?

Anton Yelchin Cast In New Spider-Man Reboot?

Man, if we could only harness the energy of Marvel movie casting rumors , we wouldn’t need offshore drilling. ONTD is reporting that Peter Parker also-ran Anton Yelchin impressed the Spidey powers-that-be enough that he’s been cast as Peter’s best friend and sometime nemesis Harry Osborne. For the Lincoln-had-a-secretary-named-Kennedy-and-Kennedy-had-a-secretary-named-Lincoln trivia buffs among you, that’s precisely how James Franco got cast as Harry in the original Spider-Man waaaayyyyyyy back in 2002 (Gosh, did we even have movies back then?). ONTD’ s only source on this, though, is IMDB, so take this news with as much salt as your physician will allow. [ ONTD ]

Tim Gunn Carries On In ‘The Smurfs Movie’

‘Project Runway’ mentor joins cast as an executive assistant at a cosmetics company. By Adam Rosenberg Tim Gunn Photo: Henry S. Dziekan III/ Getty Images For a movie about a bunch of little blue people, the cast of “The Smurfs Movie” is sure getting very big. The latest to join the cast is noted fashion expert and “Project Runway” mentor Tim Gunn. Variety reports that Gunn will play the role of an executive assistant at a major cosmetics company. Presumably, director Raja Gosnell will work out some way for Gunn to utter his “Runway” catchphrase, “Make it work,” to Tailor Smurf . The fashion guru joins a cast that already includes Neil Patrick Harris , “Glee” star Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria and Sofia Vergara, as well as the voice-acting talents of Katy Perry , Fred Armisen, George Lopez, Anton Yelchin, Paul Reubens, Alan Cumming, Jeff Foxworthy, Wolfgang Puck and Jonathan Winters. “Smurfs” shooting is under way right now in New York City. Just this week, MTV ran an image of Azaria decked out as Gargamel , the evil wizard who was driven on the cartoon by his mad desire to cook and eat the Smurfs. The movie will follow the diminutive blue people as they flee from their village after Gargamel locates it. They slip away through a magical portal and land smack in the middle of New York City’s Central Park. With Gargamel close behind, the Smurfs must find a way home before the wizard catches up with them. Gunn has appeared in guest roles on “Ugly Betty” and “How I Met Your Mother,” which also happens to star Harris. Gunn also hosts his own reality TV series on Bravo, “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style.” “The Smurfs Movie” isn’t out until August 2011, but Gunn will be featured on the big screen long before then: He’ll be seen in the upcoming “Sex and the City 2,” which is out at the end of this month.
