Tragic news out of Hollywood . Veteran Director Jeffrey Ian Pollack Found Dead He was such a young, talented and successful producer. According to NY Daily News: The tragic death of veteran producer Jeffrey Ian Pollack has left friends, family and peers in mourning. The discovery of the 54-year-old “Booty Call” director’s body on a secluded jogging trail in California’s Hermosa Beach Monday has also left questions as to what killed the avid runner. By the time another jogger stumbled upon the body at 6:30 a.m. Monday, Pollack, wearing a jogging outfit as his Eagles tunes still played on his iPod, was already dead, the Hermosa Beach Easy Reader reported. A cause of death has yet to be released. Pollack’s death hit the industry hard – particularly for those who worked with him over a career that started as a producer on the early ’90s TV series “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” which introduced rapper Will Smith to mainstream America. Credited as Jeff Pollack, he directed three movies -”Above the Rim,” which starred Marlon Wayans, in 1994; Jamie Foxx vehicle “Booty Call” in 1997; and the 1999 romantic comedy “Lost & Found” – but primarily concentrated on producing since. Business partner Benny Medina expressed his grief in a statement to Deadline.com: “He was my partner, but first and foremost, a great and loyal friend whom I loved dearly,” said Medina, who had run Handprint Entertainment, a management company, with Pollack until it closed down in 2008. “Gone too soon, I will miss him.” Medina added that Pollack’s greatest legacy was the two children he leaves behind — daughter Lael Pollack, 19, and son Logan Pollack, 13. Prayers go out to his family. WENN
Phil Robertson Suspension Is Over So much for taking a stance. According to TMZ: The “Duck Dynasty” war with A&E is over — the network just announced Phil Robertson is no longer suspended … and filming will resume in a few months. The network says their strong sense of integrity caused them to react quickly to Phil’s GQ interview … and after consulting with numerous advocacy groups they made a decision to bring him back. The network adds, “As a global media content company, A+E Networks’ core values are centered around creativity, inclusion and mutual respect. We believe it is a privilege for our brands to be invited into people’s home and we operate with a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to these principles.” The network says they plan to roll out a new PSA campaign on their network in the wake of what happened … promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance. A&E adds, “Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man’s views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family… a family that America has come to love.” So he makes racist and anti-gay comments and gets to keep his job? Clearly he has the complexion for the protection.
His may have been the most famous newscast snafu of the year, but AJ Clemente was far from the only journalist who made headlines for all the wrong reasons in 2013. There was the young woman who got hit in the face by a baseball. And the reporter who smacked by a golf club. As well as the one run into by a football player. There was the anchor who dropped an F Bomb on the air in Detroit, and the one whose tongue was a twat. So sit back, watch and take solace. Wherever you are, whatever occupation you hold down, everyone messes up sometimes. And some folks do it a lot more publicly than others… News Bloopers: The Best of 2013
Britney Spears’ Las Vegas residency kicks off this weekend amid at least some doubts that the one-time princess of pop music can still bring ’em in. Her album , Britney Jean, brought in the worst sales of her career to date, and her I Am Britney Jean documentary netted a modest 706,000 viewers. When Spears’ documentary For the Record aired on MTV in 2009, it averaged 3.7 million viewers, more than five times what the 2013 model garnered. Britney Jean debuted at #4 earlier this month with just over 64,000 copies sold during her first week on shelves, giving her her worst showing ever. Will her much-anticipated two-year Vegas show suffer similarly mediocre results? We’ll find out in a matter of hours. She takes the stage tonight. Despite the fact that her team slammed reports of sluggish ticket sales, seats are still available for purchase for Brit’s opening night and future shows. Then again, there’s also still time for the word to get out and for her to exceed expectations. Britney has been down before and bounced back strong. A Vegas residency is a different ballgame, so don’t write her off.
