Nelson Mandela has died at the age of 95, according to reports. Increased activity was noted around the Johannesburg home of South Africa’s first black president, who has been very ill, in the past 24 hours. Mandela’s death was confirmed just minutes ago. South African President Jacob Zuma announced Mandel’s passing, which marks the final chapter in a revolutionary life that changed South Africa forever. Zuma spoke about his predecessor on national TV. “Our nation has lost its greatest son, yet what made Nelson Mandela great was precisely what made him human,” Zuma said. “We saw in him what we seek in ourselves.” “In him, we saw so much of ourselves.” Family members had gathered after Mandela’s eldest daughter said the ailing icon was putting up a fight from what she nonetheless called his “deathbed.” Nelson Mandela spent nearly three months in the hospital with a lung infection earlier this year, but kept pressing on, as has always been his way. He had been receiving intensive home-based care since he was released in September, but his health slowly declined and he passed away today. Mandela’s journey and struggle remain one of the defining stories of the 20th Century. Trained as a lawyer, he became involved in politics after 1948. As South Africa moved into a system of racial apartheid, he initially spoke out and espousing non-violent protests with the African National Congress (ANC). However, he eventually founded a militant organization and was behind a bombing campaign in the early ’60s. He was sentenced to life in prison in 1962. Mandela’s imprisonment soon became an international cause, and was eventually released in 1990 after intervention by President F. W. de Klerk. A free man at last, he spearheaded South Africa’s transition from white-minority rule after that, marking the end of apartheid with the aid of de Klerk. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and was elected South Africa’s first black president in 1994. He stepped down after five years in office. Mandela is survived by his wife, Graca Machel, six children, and 17 grandchildren.

In another convergence of Kim Kardashian and the art universe, Andy Warhol’s cousin Monica Warhol was reportedly commissioned to paint portraits of Kim. While Kanye West would no doubt appreciate the rendering of “the most beautiful woman of all time,” it’s unclear if he actually sought out the work as reported. Monica Warhol could be a scam artist in other words. But fear not, Kimye fans. Justin Bieber and his entourage were detained at the Brisbane, Australia airport by agents who found weed on one of his pals, according to reports. A security check by customs agents turned up an unknown amount of pot on a 23-year-old in Justin’s entourage. The suspect was fined and released. The incident took place late last month, according to TMZ. Interestingly, Australian Federal Police say that a 19-year-old was detained and released after getting a stern warning for using “inappropriate language.” The young man reportedly swore at the officers. Hmm. Sources close to the incident claim that the troubled pop superstar, lover of Brazilian porn stars and ex-boyfriend of Selena Gomez was in fact that man. As for the stoner, sources close to Justin say he also had a disposable vaporizer – an electronic device to smoke marijuana – with residue in it. An attorney for the suspect appeared in court to pay the fine on his behalf in what was yet another incident in a tour full of notable run-ins and altercations. His bodyguard was arrested last month in Hawaii after allegedly attacking a photographer on the beach, and caught attacking a shutterbug in Sydney. Bieber also boned Tati Neves and possibly other hookers / strippers during his whirlwind tour of Brazil, and was famously filmed sleeping it all off. Rock n’ roll.

Bruce Jenner actually showup up for the shoot, but being shoved in the corner, locked in a glass tube and fighting to escape. Some photos really are worth a thousand words. It’s been an embarrassing year for the long-suffering patriarch, now a shell of his former self. And the humiliation he’s endured could cost Kris. “If Bruce Jenner opens up about all of the dirt he has on Kris, he could easily get a book advance of $15 million,” a publishing insider tells In Touch. Adds a Kardashian family friend, apparently worried: “All of her secrets would come out and she’d be completely destroyed. Bruce knows everything.” Yes … but what? And would he really tell all? Given that this is Bruce Jenner, probably not. He just likes to race cars, play golf, hang with his kids, and not be nagged. All in all, a super dude. You can criticize him for a lot of things, but being vindictive or vengeful is just not in his nature. That’s why he took Kris’ crap for so many years. Also, what would he possibly say that we don’t know, or that would damage her? That she staged / hawked the Kim Kardashian sex tape herself? Even that wouldn’t surprise anyone, or damage the brand. It’s like the Empire at this point, just without the obvious weakness in the Death Star. Or someone willing / interested in taking it on. Bruce is not going to use the Force for anything more than shaving a few strokes off his golf handicap. We’d pay to read his nonexistent tell-all, though. That’s for sure. If he even loses $15 million from his vast fortune, maybe he’ll consider it then …
