Halperin Not Digging Dippy Deutsch?

Was Mark Halperin just mugging, or was he really turned off by Donny Deutsch’s antics on the set of Morning Joe today? Check the video and be the judge. Here’s the background: on the show’s August 6th edition [a clip of which was played today and is seen in the video here], Deutsch turned up in a tight black T-shirt and proceeded to spend much of his appearance flexing for the cameras.  He ended his self-promoting performance by doing a set of push-ups as the closing comments rolled. Deutsch, apparently doing sartorial penance, appeared in a three-piece suit this morning.  But when Mika Brzezinski chided him for his macho act, going so far as to facetiously accuse him of “sexting” on the set, Deutsch couldn’t resist recreating his previous performance, doing a set of dips on the desk. Keep an eye on Mark Halperin, who reacts with a series of head shakes, eye rolls, nose pinches and snippy sidewise glances.  Mark might have just been mugging, but was there also been an element of sincere disapproval of Deutsch’s egotistical display?  I’m saying ‘si’.

Eva Longoria Shows Off Her Pink

Here’s Eva Longoria looking kinda good while wasting time in between filming scenes from that Desperate Old Ladies show of hers. I’m amazed this crap is still on TV. Anyhow, my mom editor thought the title to this post was a little too provocative for a Tuesday morning, but I assured her I wasn’t trying to make it dirty or anything, I was just pointing out a common euphemism for a woman’s vagina.

Michaele Salahi Mistreated by The View, Attorney Whines

Whoopi Goldberg did not hit Michaele Salahi when that attention-starved waste of space appeared on The View yesterday. Let’s get that fact straight. Earlier reports claimed that this Real Housewives of Washington D.C. cast member had accused the host of making such a violent gesture, but attorney Lisa Bloom tells EW.com her client never made the allegation. However, Bloom is outraged over the disrespectful way in which she says Salahi was treated during her appearance on the talk show, which included numerous references to her “crashing” the White House and a bizarre cameo by Goldberg, who grabbed Michaele’s arm (saying “Excuse me, would you get back to the White House, please?”) and then rushed off stage. You can watch the six-minute segment and then take in what Bloom said about it in a statement below: Michaele Salahi on The View “It’s not appropriate for another host to come up from behind her and ask her, the guest, to change the subject. If Whoopi didn’t like the way the interview was going, she should have told Sherri or Joy or one of the producers,” Bloom said, adding that Goldberg cursed her client out in the dressing room backstage. Bloom then defended Salahi’s White House incident in general: “She was never charged with a crime. The U.S. attorney in Washington D.C. released a statement saying they’ve never committed a crime and have never been charged. But I guess the people at The View feel otherwise. Without reviewing any of the evidence, they’ve decided that they are going to smear her. It’s unprofessional.” Bloom and Salahi can cry themselves a river of this treatment, but The Real Housewives of Washington D.C. premieres tonight on Bravo – and they should send Goldberg a bouquet of flowers after the inevitably strong ratings come in.

More Washington Post Ethics Issues: Blogger’s Employment by White House Goes Unmentioned

You would think in the wake of the problems with   former Washington Post blogger Dave Weigel   in addition to   abandoned plans by the Post’s publisher Katharine Weymouth   to charge lobbyists and trade groups thousands of dollars for access “to top congressional and administration officials for $25,000 a plate” at a dinner party her home, the folks at the Post would be a little more careful with their ever-expanding empire of new media. But that’s not the case. According to   a July 2 article posted on RawStory.com by Ron Brynaer t, there is an undisclosed connection between the Obama White House and the Post. Brynaert notes   in the Post’s July 2 report from Ed O’Keefe , the whopping $38.7-million payroll of the Obama administration reveals there are three people that aren’t taking a salary, which O’Keefe fails to name. One of those is Patricia G. McGinnis, “Advisor to the Obama White House on leadership programs for Presidential Appointees.” But there is more to McGinnis, which Brynaert pointed out. ” McGinnis’ Georgetown biography notes   that she “is the former President and CEO of the Council for Excellence in Government, where she created and led a number of innovative programs to improve the performance of government, during her 14 year tenure” and also   ‘serves [as] a panelist and blogger for the Washington Post ‘On Leadership’ website.’ ” McGinnis was also listed as an unpaid adviser in 2009. Now this might have been nice to know because it violates the Post’s ethics policy, as Brynaert explained. “McGinnis was also listed as an unpaid adviser in the   White House payroll statistics released in 2009 ,” Brynaert wrote. “According to the Post’s   media ethics policy , ‘This newspaper is pledged to avoid conflict of interest or the appearance of conflict of interest, wherever and whenever possible. We have adopted stringent policies on these issues, conscious that they may be more restrictive than is customary in the world of private business.'” As for McGinnis’ content – there are indeed some glowing accounts of Obama,   which Brynaert has compiled , including one in January: “The first year of Obama’s presidency has produced an ambitious agenda for change, which congressional Republicans have resisted at every turn with chilling partisanship.”

Perez Hilton to Joy Behar: I’m an Idiot, Miley Cyrus is an "Oversexualized Creature"

I used poor judgment and probably should not have posted the photo. That’s all Perez Hilton had to say about this week’s Miley Cyrus upskirt picture scandal, in which the blogger Tweeted an image that suggested the 17-year old singer wasn’t wearing underwear. Utter that one sentence and the controversy would go away. But this is Perez Hilton, of course. He craves controversy and the attention it brings. Therefore, during his appearance on The Joy Behar Show last night, he spent almost eight minutes defending his actions, saying of the pic: “It was showing Miley getting out of the car in an un-ladylike fashion. That was funny and keeping with her shocking behavior of late.” Perez Hilton Interview Perez went on to explain his side of the situation. He said: He did not pixelate or photoshop anything. He did not take the photo or even publish it originally. He simply linked to another website and that website was the one that took the picture down. He’d do it again and would publish the image on his blog right now if he had a deal with the agency that snapped it. It’s “insulting to children” to insinuate that a shot of Cyrus exiting a car, without any nudity actually depicted, would be considered child pornography. Hilton disagreed with Behar that the entire incident is “none of his business” because he said Miley was at a video shoot with paparazzi around and has “been around the block” often enough to understand what happens when cameras are around. As for the talk that he posted a picture of a 17-year old’s vagina, Perez scoffed: “I can’t help it if America has a dirty imagination.” Ironically, this comment makes him just like Cyrus. Both tease the public with sexual images and innuendo, and then play innocent when called out for it. They even turn into victims and blame us for making such supposedly wild assumptions. That’s exactly what Miley did HERE . In response to Miley’s assertion that Hilton is just some idiot , Perez agreed 100%. But said he’s having fun. He also referred to Cyrus as “oversexualized” and said she’s “turned herself into this creature,” bringing up her stage attire and recent incidents, such as Miley’s videotaped lap dance for Adam Shankman . Watch the video above and decide: Who is more annoying, Cyrus or Hilton? It’s a tough question, we know.

Unattractive defendants receive longer sentences – the American Jury System

Well, here's one more argument for an overhaul of the jury system in America. According to a Cornell University study, a physically unattractive defendant is likely to receive a harsher sentence than a more attractive defendant – a prison sentence up to 22 months longer, on average, for a similar crime. The study looks at two kinds of jurors – those who process information rationally and without regard for the appearance of the defendant, and jurors who process information emotionally, giving harsher verdicts and sentencing based upon their perception of the physical attributes of the defendant. Author Justin Gunnell '05, J.D. '08, who began working on the study as a policy analysis and management major with co-author Stephen Ceci, and Cornell's Helen L. Carr Professor of Developmental Psychology were determined to find out why there have been reports of such disparities for decades. Using 169 Cornell undergraduates, the scientists determined those individuals who processed information rationally, using facts, analysis and reason, and those who based their decisions on emotion which factored in irrelevant factors such as race, gender and class, and who reported that a “less attractive” person would be “more likely” the kind of person who would commit a crime. The study concluded with the participants looking at an actual case file and photograph, jury instructions and closing arguments and rendering his or her verdict and sentencing accordingly. (In fairness, this inconsistency was reported in those cases with ambiguous evidence or lesser charged offenses; in other words, not in cases where there was harder evidence more determinative of guilt). Since in the American justice system, attorneys have an opportunity to screen jurors for specific reasons, and for a limited number of non-specific reasons, this study might be useful, in designing questions or challenges that get to the heart of a prospective juror's mindset, but can we ever ensure a jury system without predisposition, whether for race, gender, class or attractiveness? Should we even be surprised by this study, with what we, as laymen, know of human nature? This tosses another ball into the court of proponents for professional jurors – with its own set of drawbacks, but arguably a more plausible solution to justice in the courtroom. http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/6015099-unattractive-defendants-receiv… added by: Stoneyroad
