When they drop that new iPad all the tech geeks go craaaaaazy, the tech geeks go craaaaazy! Apple today announced its new iPad — a powerful updated model with a new processor and a high-definition display. The new “Retina Display” screen has 2048 x 1536 resolution, which is higher than that found any other tablet on the market. The result, said Apple, will be much crisper pictures and video. After weeks of rumors that it might be called the “iPad 3″ or “iPad HD,” Apple only referred to it as “the new iPad” at today’s rollout in San Francisco. Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, Philip W. Schiller, touted the new screen on stage. “You are going to see sharper images,” he said. “Photos are just going to look amazing.” On the outside, the new iPad looks very similar to the tablet Apple has been selling for more than a year. But with an A5x processor and quad-core graphics, Apple said images would have 44 percent greater color saturation than one sees on the previous model. There will be 3.1 million pixels on the screen, 264 pixels per inch. The new tablet will have 10 hours of battery life, Schiller said, nine hours when receiving 4G signals. It will be all of 9.5 mm thick. …Apple has also added 4G LTE capabilities from Verizon and AT&T, meaning those who opt for the 3G / 4G models will get faster browsing and Internet speeds. This is the first time Apple has decided to integrate LTE into one of its products. The base model, which will start at $499, will have 16GB of memory and only Wi-Fi connectivity. Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the new tablet in front of a crowd of industry insiders and bloggers Wednesday (March 7) in San Francisco. One of the biggest updates to the gadget is an upgrade to a retina display with double the resolution of the iPad 2, touting a 2048×1536 screen and 264 pixels per inch. With such a significant change to the tablet’s screen, the new iPad is sure to change the way we watch movies on tablets. With the iPad’s display upgrade comes the possibility of 1080p screen resolution, something that has, up until this point, never been done on a tablet before. The move to 1080p on the iPad coincided with a much larger upgrade across the iTunes Store. Movies purchased or rented from the iTunes Store not only come in the up-scaled 1080p resolution, but also are shareable across Apple devices with the help of the file-sharing service iCloud. Movies and TV shows are now shareable through iCloud and can be re-downloaded across all devices. This includes an updated version of Apple TV, which brings your iTunes-purchased video to your home entertainment system, now in 1080p. The Apple TV interface also added a recommendation feature based on what you’ve previously bought and viewed. The new iPad also upgraded the back camera, now called the iSight camera. The new lens and features will allow 1080p video recording. Additionally, Apple 4G LTE capabilities to bust download speeds. The new iPad will be available for purchase in the United States on March 16 in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models.

After months of speculation, Apple unveiled “the new iPad” this morning. Those quotation marks are properly used. That’s its name. Or at least what it was called by CEO and Steve Jobs successor Tim Cook in San Francisco, Calif. Many sites (THG among them) have been referring to it as the iPad 3, iPad HD, or some iteration of that name. But apparently it’s just the new iPad. The changes may disappoint Apple fanatics hoping for a radically redesigned gadget. But given the iPad’s huge success, a few upgraded features go a long way. The iPad’s rank as the world’s top tablet and Apple’s status as the world’s most valuable company shouldn’t be threatened anytime soon, in other words. New Microsoft mobile head Terry Myerson says that Apple’s habit of releasing software updates for current iPhones is really just a way to sell more hardware: I think Apple ‑‑ you’re right, you can download iOS 5 for iPhone 3G, and it won’t be usable, but it’s possible to install …. It’s a great hardware sales tool as far as I can tell. Install this OS which makes your hardware unusably slow, so then you feel compelled to go back to the store and buy a new piece of hardware. He also said that Android phones don’t get updated at all: Statistically speaking, no Android phones get upgraded, none, ever. They have big bugs, they don’t even get patched. That’s what we’re seeing statistically out there. We guess he probably meant the 3GS, not the 3G, which doesn’t support iOS5. Biebs already has a Ferrari and a Cadillac Batmobile, so what more does he need? Paul at Manhattan Motorcars thinks he’s got just the ticket: the redesigned 2012 Bentley Continental GTC. “Very sporty car, definitely aimed at a younger buyer,” Paul told MTV News. “Completely hand-built, handcrafted in England. Just a blast to drive.” With a new ride lined up, Bieber’s going to need a new pair of shades to keep the sun out of his precious peepers while he’s cruising around Hollywood. For those, MTV visited Jordan Silver at Silver Lining Opticians. “Some of the most amazing pieces I think Justin might like are Persol, Ray-Ban and some of the brands that did car collaborations in the ’80s,” Silver said. “One we just got in is by Maserati. Yellow diamonds, black diamonds, all hand-set,” Trax’s Paul Mazza told MTV News.
