The Voice Recap: Who Landed a Four-Chair Turn?

The Blind Auditions were dragged out even further on Monday’s episode of The Voice.  But there was one silver lining: The first duo in years made it to the Blind Auditions, but how did the couple fare? OneUp (Team Kelly) – “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love” Adam and Jerome got close to each other while shooting a music video, and decided it was time to form a duo.  The issue, however, is that their vocals did not mesh well together. They would have been wiser to audition as solo acts.  Kelly probably only took them on because it was so different to have a duo in the game. If they can dial back the confidence, they might be able to adapt.  Natalie Brady (Team Adam) – “Barracuda”   This 33-year-old Nashville singer showed up on the stage and immediately made it her own. With solid vocals and a great stage presence, she could be one to watch.  The surprising thing was that she only got two chair turns, but she could be a success story with Adam’s help.  Mike Parker (Team Jennifer) – “So Sick” Mike was quick to point out that he lost all of his scholarships because his grades were not up to scratch.  He turned to a career in construction, but he could probably carve out a career in music. His audition was solid, and we’re sure he will be a great addition to Team Jennifer.  Erika Zade (Team Kelly) –  “New Rules” Erika is the 20-year-old daughter of a rocker from Miami. She with Dua Lipa’s hit single for her audition, and let’s just say it was not what we expected.  She put her own unique spin on it, but was there anything beyond that audition that she could accomplish? We have no idea. Jarred Matthew (Team Adam) –  “Tired of Being Alone” Jarred went with an Al Green classic, and his vocals hit astronomical heights. He had a lot of confidence, not as much as OneUp, and that’s a good thing.  Out of all the performers Monday night, he is the most likely to make it further into the competition. He has the look of a superstar, so that’s a positive. It will all come down to whether his chances are ruined by horrid song choices.  Kayley Hill (Team Blake) – “Gold Dust Woman” Anybody who can tackle a Fleetwood Mac number should automatically get a four-chair turn. There, we said it.  Kayley was another solid performance, but she was a casualty of the short auditions. Maybe the producers wanted to save her best for the Batlle Rounds.  Kirk Jay (Team Blake) – “God Bless the Broken Road” This 22-year-old country singer turned in a striking performance that got the coveted four-chair turn.  He was confident and knew what was expected of him, and he set out to prove to everyone that he should be kept in the game.  In the end, he went to Team Blake, and that’s a good thing.  What are your thoughts on the latest performances?  The Voice continues Tuesday on NBC. The Voice Recap: Who Won Night 4 of the Blind Auditions?

After Monday’s Blind Auditions brought some of the worst auditions yet our way, five more people advanced to the next stage of the competition on Tuesday.  But were these five more worthy than the bunch that made the first episode of the week such a big drag? Let’s break down Tuesday’s performances! Reagan Strange (Team Adam) – “Meant to Be” This 13-year-old appeared on the stage and shocked everyone. With her mature attitude and dizzying vocals, she emerged as quite the contender.  As seems to be the norm on this NBC hit, first performance nerves can cause some problems, and that’s what happened here.  In the end, she joined Team Adam, and her future in the process will hinge on whether she can battle the nerves and whether Adam chooses the right songs for her.  Foushée (Team Adam) – “Redbone” Foushée appeared on stage and had all of the makings of a global sensation. Being the daughter of a drummer, she knew what she had to do to secure a place post-audition.  That’s why she made her way to Team Adam. It would have been fun to see what Kelly did with her, but Adam might be the next best thing.  Chris Kroeze (Team Blake) – “Pride and Joy” Chris shocked both the audience and the coaches. Adam thought he was a woman because nobody expected such a sweet voice from a man who looks like a country rocker.  That said, being put in Blake’s team might prove to be the biggest mistake, because Blake is going to throw every country song at him to see what sticks.  MaKenzie Thomas (Team Jennifer), “Big White Room” Makenzie returned after not getting anywhere during Season 14. Her aim here was to get the chairs turning because her nerves got the best of her the last time.  There was a great voice there, but a lot of work is required to make sure the teenager does not sound as pitchy as she did during the audition.  Thankfully, she’s on Team Jennifer, and we could not think of a better place for her! SandyRedd (Team Kelly), “River” This 35-year-old mother of two brought her A-game Tuesday night. With vocals that people can only dream of, the coaches rewarded her with a four-chair turn.  It was the biggest surprise of the night because the spots on each team are starting to look hella full, but SandyRedd was worth it.  In fact, she was so worth it that Jennifer Hudson threw both of her shoes at her. Is it a big compliment? We hope so.  In the end, she opted to go with Team Kelly.  What are your thoughts on the latest auditions? The Voice Recap: Who Won Night 4 of the Blind Auditions?

Dancing with the Stars Results: Who Was Sent Packing?

Dancing with the Stars served up another big elimination during Latin Night, an episode filled with routines that were just too hot to handle.  With Barbara Corcoran and Keo Motsepe already eliminated, which other couple lost their place in the competition during week two?  And was it one of those shocking eliminations that nobody saw coming, or was this just a matter of time for an overmatched tandem? Let’s break down the steamy performances and and find out … Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev – Samba – “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi feat. Daddy Yankee Nikki improved a lot on Monday’s episode of the series, but then she went and squandered that momentum when she kept cackling whenever she tried to practice for the sexy routine.  We’ve all had a case of the giggles, but did she not know how high the stakes were for this competition? The performance was a little too slow, and it showed that Nikki is not that great of a dancer.  Score: 18/30 Victoria Arlen and Val Chmerkovskiy – Rumba – “Easy” by Sky Ferreira Victoria was nervous when she tried to prepare for this routine with Val. The performance was okay, but Len said that it was not all that and he wanted to see some more from them. We have to agree.  At least Victoria can take solace in the fact that Taylor Swift sent her a gift for her birthday.  Score: 20/30 Derek Fisher and Sharna Burgess – Paso Doblé – “Diablo Rojo” by Rodrigo y Gabriela Sharna is the Queen of raunchy routines, so it was evident this was one she and Derek should be able to get some traction with. Derek was upset about them landing in the bottom two.  Everyone was glad that Derek was taking the feedback on board, but it never really reflected in his score.  Score: 19/30 Sasha Pieterse and Gleb Savchenko – Samba – “Most Girls” by Hailee Steinfeld Sasha opened up about some trolls who came out of the woodwork when she gained weight due to PCOS. It helped her channel all of her heartbreak from the ordeal into her performance.  Who would have thought that Sasha would be one of the best performers of the night after her premiere week dud? Score: 22/30 Nick Lachey and Peta Murgatroyd Argentine – Tango – “She’s a Lady” by Lion Babe Nick has not been performing as well as we expected him to do on the show so far, but tonight he proved that he could improve if given the time.  The judges were not entirely impressed, with Carrie Ann glad about the progression, but Len continued to play the villain role by essentially calling it trash.  Score: 19/30 Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold – Samba – “Mi Gente” by J. Balvin and Willy William Going into the competition, it was clear that Jordan knew a lot about the world of dance. From stints on Grease live to Disney spectaculars, he had a huge advantage.  The performance was flawless. They looked confident together and were genuinely believable as a couple.  Score: 24/30 Drew Scott and Emma Slater – Rumba – “Lights Down Low” by Max feat. gnash Who does not like to have a tan? That was Emma’s question to Drew before the routine, so she decided to spray him down, and it worked. He looked soooo much better.  It gave Drew more confidence, and the judges even agreed that there was some improvement, so it was a win-win! Score: 21/30 Debbie Gibson and Alan Bersten Argentine – Tango – “Havana” by Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug Debbie Gibson has been essentially at the bottom of the pack with Barbara since last week, but she proved she has what it takes to be taken seriously.  Her performance with Alan was her best yet, but the judges felt Debbie was not making the best use of her body.  Score: 21/30 Vanessa Lachey and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Salsa – “Instruction” by Jax Jones feat. Demi Lovato and Stefflon Don Vanessa is one of the best competitors this season. Her dancing has always been a cut above Nick’s, so it’s a given that she will, make it further than him.  Even Len was impressed, and that’s not something that happens every day, you guys! Score: 23/30 Terrell Owens and Cheryl Burke – Samba – “Hot in Herre” by Nelly   Terrelll initially appeared as the novelty act of the season, but somewhere along the way, he improved and his now middle of the pack. That’s a great change from one week ago.  The judges were all very positive about his improvement.  Score: 19/30 Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas – Salsa – “Mani Picao” by Ricky Campanelli Lindsey continued to go from strength to strength in her attempt to own the floor, and Mark was clearly loving the whole thing. They were electric, and the pair are probably going to make it far.  Score: 24/30 Frankie Muniz and Witney Carson Cha-Cha, “Perm” by Bruno Mars If you told us a few weeks back that Frankie Muniz would be a frontrunner on Dancing with the Stars, we would have laughed in your face.  He knew what he needed to do to get the judges talking and they LOVED it. He is a great entertainer.  Score: 25/30 After the performances, it was time to send another contestant packing. Nick and Peta and Debbie and Alan were in the bottom two couples.  In a true shocker, Debbie and Alan were let go from the competition. Say it ain’t so! What did you think of the elimination? Sound off below! Dancing with the Stars is back next Monday on ABC! View Slideshow: Dancing with the Stars Season 25 Cast Rankings: Who Will Win … or Exit Early?

The Voice Recap: A Diamond in the Rough

The Voice may be bringing a bit of the same after 13 seasons on the air, but Jennifer Hudson is a welcome addition to the panel. She oozes positivity, and that’s something required when coaching many hopefuls through the various stages of the process.  It was Blind Auditions Night Two, and we had some very solid performances to run down.  Who made it through to the next round? Let’s run down the performances below … Keisha Renee  “I Can’t Stop Loving You” Keisha’s song choice was on point. At this stage, it’s important to show off your vocal range, and Keisha definitely accomplished that goal.  She was confident and knew exactly what she needed to do to get to where she wanted in her career. Blake Shelton was big on her and quickly snapped her up for his team.  Maharasyi – “Tell Me Something Good” While Keisha chose the perfect song, the same could not be said for Maharasyi. You would think with her already having a recording career, she would know which song to sing to show off her singing voice. Luckily for her, Jennifer saw the potential and turned her chair around, but we can’t help but think it was a mistake.  Dylan Gerard – “Say You Won’t Let Go” Dylan did not sound great, but Jennifer helped him out and told him to change some things. This helped him sound way better, and Adam noticed this.  So, Adam got another one to join him! Red Marlow – “Swingin'” Red had a great country voice, and he had the perfect song to go along with it. We could definitely imagine him as a recording artist, and the coaches thought so.  Ultimately, he joined Team Blake.  Ashland Craft – “You Are My Sunshine” Ashland was the best singer of the night. It was perhaps one of the best auditions ever, and that was partly down to her confidence about the whole thing.  The coaches took notice, and she ultimately joined Team Miley. Miley is the best place for Ashland because we could see them dueting together.  So, that’s a wrap on Night 2, you guys. Which performers did you like best? Hit the comments below! The Voice Coaches Team Up for Epic "Dream On" Rendition

When The Voice Season 11 premieres on September 19, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine will be in competition with each other. They'll be jostling and arguing over which prospective contestants will be a part of their team. But the singers put all (jovial) animosity aside on Sunday night, teaming up for a special 30-minute preview of The Voice. The preview aired after NBC's coverage of the Summer Olympics, which ended up being extremely appropriate. Because Miley, Blake, Adam and Alicia put on a Gold Medal-worthy performance to conclude the special. It features all four artists on stage, belting out a version of the Aerosmith classic, “Dream On.” At one point, Levine even made Steven Tyler proud with his very impression rendition of Tyler's famous high-pitched vocals. It was pretty astounding, actually. We're not sure if anyone else in the music business could have pulled it off. Earlier in the episode, we were treated to a sneak peek at two of this season’s Blind Auditions, with the talent level threatening to reach its highest point to date. We couldn't believe a couple of the aspiring singers were just 17 years old. But that's all for a few weeks from now. You'll get to know the contestants a lot better on September 19 when The Voice returns. For now, we strongly recommend that readers give these coaches a few minutes of their time in order to check out their “Dream On” rendition. It's fantastic.

The Voice Season 7 Episode 11 Recap: Taylor Swift Said Knock You Out!

The Blind Auditions are over. The Battles have come and gone. The Knockout Round is here on The Voice, and there is no longer any margin for error. It’s win or go home. Or at least win or get stolen or go home. With Taylor Swift on board as mentor, let’s break down all the Knockout performances from last night and see who is still in the hunt to be named The Voice: DaNica Shirey vs. Katriz Trinidad (Team Pharrell) DaNica Shirey (“Saving All My Love For You” by Whitney Houston) defeated Katriz Trinidad (“Superwoman” by Alicia Keys) in a little bit of an upset. Both were terrific out there, and have potential to make it far in this competition. But only one spot remained in the Top 12, and DaNica edged Katriz for it. Damien vs. Toia Jones (Team Adam) It was a tough one for Adam, but Damien (“How Do I Live” by LeAnn Rimes) bested Toia Jones (“Crazy in Love” by Beyoncé) in another upset Monday. Toia seemed to have Damien on the ropes in this Knockout round performance, pouring every ounce of energy she had into that cover, but alas, Damien it is. Jessie Pitts vs Tanner Linford (Team Blake) It felt like a battle of Team Blake also-rans, but Jessie Pitts (“Your Song” by Elton John) topped Tanner Linford (“Calling All Angels” by Train) to advance. The Voice Season 7 Knockout Performances 1. Luke Wade – Rich Girl (The Voice Knockouts) Luke Wade gives his best to Hall & Oates’ “Rich Girl.” James David Carter vs. Griffin (Team Blake) James David Carter (“You’ve Got a Friend” by James Taylor) ousted Griffin (“As Long as You Love Me” by Justin Bieber) but will have to dig deeper now. Bryana Salaz vs. Sugar Jones (Team Gwen) Bryana Salaz (“Heart Attack” by Demi Lovato) beat Sugar Jones (“Love on Top” by Beyoncé) even though both showed terrific technique and plenty of talent. Sugar was stolen by Pharrell, so both move on! Whether either can actually win is very much in doubt, but they could have a chance to make it to the top five or six with the right songs and menthoring. Luke Wade vs. Taylor Phelan (Team Pharrell) To the surprise of no one, Luke Wade (“Rich Girl” by Hall & Oates) prevailed over Taylor Phelan (“Rather Be” by Clean Bandit), but Taylor was stolen by Adam! Pharrell must have played this one strategically (albeit bizarrely), putting his two strongest team members against each other knowing he’d lose one. Both showed vulnerability, actually, but still have the chops to go all the way, or at least close to it, when the dust settles and the live playoffs begin. Which was your favorite Knockout round?

The Voice Season 4 Ratings: Climbing!

Suffice it to say, Shakira and Usher on The Voice works. NBC’s singing competition hit is pulling off a rare feat, increasing its ratings since the Season 4 premiere, with a switched-up judging panel to boot! Adam Levine and Blake Shelton are still holding it (and throwing it) down, but the show has not been dinged by the hiatus of Christina and Cee Lo. Three weeks in, The Voice is up 4 percent from the previous cycle, hitting a season high 13.7 million viewers and a 4.9 rating among adults 18-49 last night. The show still could tank as we head deeper into spring, but it certainly doesn’t look like it. In fact, Usher and Shakira are re-igniting the fire if anything. The blind auditions conclude this evening on NBC. Grade Usher and Shakira on The Voice:   Love them! They’re great! They were okay. We’ll see if they improve. Not a fan! Get Christina and Cee Lo back in here ASAP! View Poll »

The Bachelor Recap: The Final Two Are …

After emotional hometown dates , The Bachelor jetted off to Switzerland for the penultimate episode of the season (the Women Tell All special is next week). Nicki Sterling, Lindzi Cox and Courtney Robertson vied for the final two roses doled out by Ben Flajnik … as did another familiar face in a non-shocking return. Could Kacie Boguskie cajole her way back into the mix? Clearly contrived time-filling plot twists aside, Courtney preemptively shifted into damage control mode and Lindzi made her case as the season’s dark horse. Yes, we went with a horse joke there. Again. Too easy. Who made the final two heading into the March 12 finale? Were The Bachelor spoilers right, or did Ben pull a surprise? Here’s THG’s +/-

The Voice Recap: Who Drafted the Best Team?

The teams are set. The gauntlet has been thrown down. After five episodes, the Blind Auditions have finally come to an end on The Voice. Each of the four coaches rounded out his/her squad last night, with an even dozen aspiring stars ready to battle it out here in Season 2. Let’s take a look at how the final rosters shook out: Team Blake Shelton Blake turned around after Cee Lo and Adam during Lex Land’s rendition of “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” but he won her over with his comments … or charm: Lex Land – I Can’t Make You Love Me (The Voice Audition) Adley Stump gave Blake another country singer with a great “Last Name”: Adley Stump – Last Name (The Voice Audition) Team: Lex Land, Adley Stump, RaeLynn, Gwen Sebastian, Jermaine Paul, Erin Willett, Jordis Unga, Brian Fuente, Naia Kete, Charlotte Sometimes, Jordan Rager, ALyX. Team Adam Levine Whitney Myer from Reno performed “No One” and was able to get all four of the coaches to turn around. She chose Adam after he spent some extra time wooing her: Whitney Myer – No One (The Voice Audition) Orlando Napier sang “Waiting on the World to Change” and in that instance, Adam was the only coach to turn around. Still, that’s all he needs to continue this journey: Orlando Napier – Waiting on the World to Change (The Voice Audition) Team: Whitney Myer, Orlando Napier, Tony Lucca, Kim Yarbrough, Angel Taylor, Pip, Katrina Parker, Chris Cauley, Nathan Parrett, Mathai, Nicolle Galyon, Karla Davis. Team Christina Aguilera Lee Koch’s “Like a Rolling Stone” won her over … Lee Koch – Like a Rolling Stone (The Voice Audition) … as did Sara Hill’s “I’m Going Down” … Sera Hill – I’m Going Down (The Voice Audition) Team: Lee Koch, Sara Hill, Jesse Campbell, Chris Mann, The Line, Lindsey Pavao, Geoff McBride, Moses Stone, Jonathas, Monique Benabou, Ashley De La Rosa, Anthony Evans. Team Cee Lo Green The Shields Brothers, Cheesa, and WADE rounded out this eclectic squad. The latter (WADE) sang “Rehab” and proved to be a good fit for Cee Lo. Check it out: WADE – Rehab (The Voice Audition) The rocker brothers took the title of “Dancing With Myself” literally: The Shields Brothers – Dancing with Myself (The Voice Audition) Cheesa battled through “If I Were a Boy.”
