But fans saw the actor in a brand-new light at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night (January 11) when he accepted an award for his film “Water for Elephants” and showed off his new buzz-cut hairdo. Pattinson appeared casually made his way to the stage in a simple button-up shirt and jeans to accept the Favorite Drama Movie award from Zachary Levi and “Twilight” co-star Ashley Greene. Even without his shaggy, long locks, Pattinson received a standing ovation. “Woah. Thank you very much. I don’t know why they asked me to accept it because it’s really a lot of other people as well,” he chuckled over an echo of screams from the audience. “When I was doing this movie, I was having so much fun doing it that I was saying to everyone I didn’t even care if anyone saw it. But now that people have seen it and they’re giving awards for it, I’m even more thankful for the whole experience, so thank you guys very much.” “Water for Elephants” beat out “The Adjustment Bureau,” “The Help,” “Limitless” and “Moneyball.” Now Pattinson’s love for “Elephants” isn’t exactly a secret. With just one day remaining before the Iowa caucuses kick off the GOP primary process, Ron Paul dinged surging rival Rick Santorum for being a fiscal liberal. Paul said the former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania and staunch social conservative, who has gained traction of late, voted for too much spending while in Congress. “I mean, have you looked at his record? He wasn’t leading the charge to slash the budgets and vote against big government.” Rand Paul, who was elected to the U.S. Senator from Kentucky in 2010, added that Santorum’s voteing history proved he wasn’t a true conservative. “He voted to double the size of the Department of Education,” Rand Paul said. “He voted to expand Medicare and add free drugs for seniors and he has voted for foreign aid.” “Those are not conservative principles … 77 percent of the American people are opposed to foreign aid and Rick Santorum has voted for it every time it’s come down.” Ron Paul, who is running neck-and-neck with Mitt Romney and Santorum in Iowa, again addressed a potential third-party bid should he fail to win the GOP nomination. “I have no plans in doing that,” Paul said. “Tomorrow is a big day. We’ll see what happens but I have no intention of doing that, no plans and no desire.”

Over 1,500 mourners turned out today for a memorial service in honor of Ben Breedlove, an 18-year old from Texas who died from a heart attack on Christmas Day. Prior to his passing, however, Breedlove posted a few YouTube videos that detailed his brushes with death and his appreciation for life. He showed no fear of whatever lay ahead, as depicted below: Ben Breedlove Life Story, Part 1 “It’s exciting to know that Ben planted a seed in people’s mind to begin thinking about things that really do matter in life,” Ben’s mother, Deanne Breedlove, told ABC News’ Austin affiliate KVUE at the memorial. “You know, we all have hope. Everyone has challenges, but we have a real hope and he saw that. He felt the peace of God when he had those glimpses into heaven and heavenly presence.” Ben’s videos have been viewed over 2.3 million times and a fund been established on behalf of his family to help spread Breedlove’s message around the world, while also supporting others with his condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. ‘We enjoy what everybody else is doin’, but our focus is us, and in our minds, we’re the best rap group,’ Joe Budden tells MTV News. Hit records are nice, but the greatest MCs are often defined by their wordplay. Judging from fan reaction across Twitter, the highlight of Tuesday’s 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards were the nine different rhyme cipher segments , which showcased a total of 41 MCs all vying for rap supremacy. Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, B.o.B, Machine Gun Kelly, Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group and Eminem and his Shady 2.0 crew all contributed lethal bars to the program. According to Slaughterhouse member Joe Budden, it was Marshall who reigned supreme in his round of rhyming. “We wasn’t chumped, though,” Budden told MTV News on the show’s black carpet. Yelawolf set it off with a tongue-twisting verse, while DJ Premier spun the instrumental from the East Flatbush Project’s 1996 classic “Tried by 12.” Joey threw the gauntlet next, with lines referencing some of rap’s elite, including Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne. “I’m grown, I’m not watching the throne, I’m sabotaging it,” he spit before dropping, “Enough raps from you scrub cats about cocking the snub back/ Wayne couldn’t teach me how to love that.” When asked to contemplate Shady’s place among other rap crews, Crooked I pounded his chest and nominated Slaughterhouse for the highest honor. “Right now, we’re the best f—in’ rap group, straight up,” he said. “Best rap group in the universe,” Budden chimed in. “We thinking about us and what we’re doin’. We enjoy what everybody else is doin’, but our focus is us, and in our minds, we’re the best rap group.” After last night’s performance, Slaughterhouse certainly made a case. With his verse, Royce Da 5’9″ expressed his appreciation for pop star Rihanna, and after the cipher aired, “Hi Rihanna” became a trending topic on Twitter. Still, the segment’s main draw was Eminem, who stacked rhyme triplets atop each other in vivid and witty ways. Taking poetic license, Em described his rollout plans for both Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf’s upcoming album releases, spitting: “You’re about to see peace destroyed, it’ll never be restored/ When I unleash these beastly hoards on your CD stores/ Wanna stop it? You will need a priest, at least three swords/ A license to ill from the Beastie Boys, three Ouija Boards and a squeegee/ And please be warned, don’t ask what the squeegees for/ Or the holy water, acid raps that’ll eat these floors.” And it all sounds delightful.
