The ‘Eternal Aircraft’ Zephyr Solar Plane Aims for 14 Days in the Air

Photo: Qinetiq Breaking All Kinds of Records A couple weeks ago we wrote about the Solar Impulse , a solar airplane that flew for over 24 hours straight. That was very impressive for an aircraft with someone on board, but compared to the solar-powered Zephyr unmanned aircraft, that’s child’s play. Bamboo Screens Shade Stunning French Passivhaus

One of the key elements of Passivhaus design has been the use of generous south-facing glazing for passive solar gain. That’s great in winter, but you can have too much of a good thing in summer. Revolutionary Elevator Uses Zero Energy

Image from Footprint It’s big and clunky and it’s revolutionary. An elevator that uses no energy at all. Designed as part of the London Festival of Architecture , the challenge was to make some historic steps accessible by wheelchair and highlight the need for accessibility across London. The designer, an architect, worked with the Royal Engineers to create the solar elevator. It had to be free-standing since it was to be in the middle of the Duke of York Steps, and it had to be temporary. A… Read the full story on TreeHugger
