Muslim Woman Carolyn Walker Sworn In As Judge In Brookyln We hope Donald Trump is reading this great story…. According to Gulf News reports a Muslim woman was sworn in as a judge in NYC using the Holy Quran. Carolyn Walker-Diallo was sworn in as a civil judge for the 7th Municipal District at the Brooklyn Burough Hall, New York, after being elected last month. Walker-Diallo began her legal career as a litigation associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy LLP, according to her website. She says she saw her parents play a proactive role in the East New York and Cypress Hills communities. Walker-Diallo walked the family’s path of “being the change we want to see in the world” when she assumed charge of a community-based non-profit, named after her father, The George Walker Jr Community Coalition, Inc. She combined her passion for the law and for the community by creating the East New York Youth Court, which trains youth aged 13-18 to serve as judges, attorneys, clerks, bailiffs and jurors in real cases involving their peers. The first Muslim woman judge in the United States is Sheila Abdus-Salaam, an African-American who still sits on the New York State Supreme Court. She was first appointed to the bench in 1992. Another Arab-American, Charlene Mekled Elder, was appointed to the 3rd Circuit Court of Wayne County in Michigan in 2006. A few years ago, the state of California and New Jersey also appointed their first Muslim judges. California appointed Halim Dhanidina, whose parents emigrated from Tanzania to the United States in the mid-1960s. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Congratulations to Judge Carolyn Walker-Diallo!!!!!!!
Dance Moms Season 5 Episode 23 pitted sibling prodigies Maddie and Mackenzie Ziegler against each other in a battle for the ages on Lifetime. Who would prevail, and what would the fallout be? Watch Dance Moms Season 5 Episode 23 Online When Dance Moms Season 5 Episode 23 got underway, the two girls were given solos in the same age category, raising the stakes higher than ever. Sibling rivalry plus typical Dance Moms pressure cooker? In. Tense. The pressure was even higher for Maddie, considering that in addition to practicing her risky tap dance solo, she had a new video with Sia premiering. Abby, for her part, brought in celebrity guest choreographer Travis Payne to teach a routine inspired by vouging, a style the girls aren’t familiar with. Did they catch on quickly enough? And who came out on top? If you watch Dance Moms online , you know all too well that the moms tend to lose their minds when it comes to this stuff. This week was no exception. Mackenzie, 10, won for her jazz/acro routine. Maddie, 12, took second for her tap routine. Their mom, Melissa Gisoni, wept as she embraced the former. View Slideshow: Abby Lee Miller: The Beast of the East (Coast) Maddie was gracious on stage, but behind the scenes, she was less than thrilled with her mom. Maddie summed it up thusly to her parental unit: “Mom, it’s just a stupid competition … you don’t have to cry.” Stupid competition? Yes, but she feels she should’ve won it. “I definitely deserve to beat her, but its OK,” Maddie said. Later, in the dressing room, Melissa attempted to get Maddie to share in her epic joy for Mackenzie, but the older sister was just not having it. “I’m not mad at all!” Maddie said to her mom at that point. “You said, ‘Be happy. Be happy. I’m like, I’m happy! … I AM happy. Just stop it!” The mom had a different assessment after the fact, in any case, when she was asked by Jessalyn Siwa if she felt Maddie deserved to win. “I’m sorry. Mackenzie looked like a 7-year-old on the stage and she looked adorable and sweet and Maddie was fabulous,” Melissa said. Mixed signals much? View Slideshow: 31 Craziest Celebrity Fights
NYC East Village Explosion At least 12 people are injured after a fire and building collapse in the East Village. Via NBC New York: An explosion inside a building in the East Village has sparked a massive fire and caused one building to collapse, officials and witnesses say. The buildings at 121 and 123 Second Ave. between 7th Street and St. Marks Place were engulfed in flames after an explosion at 121, according to officials. The building at 123 has collapsed. Huge flames were shooting out of the front of the buildings in the five-alarm blaze, and thick plumes of white smoke could be seen billowing from the structures in the tightly packed, business-heavy neighborhood. The tall flames and smoke could be seen from at least 20 blocks north. The FDNY says 12 people were injured in the fire, three of them critically. Two of those patients were taken to Cornell with serious burns and a third unconscious patient was taken to Bellevue. All firefighters were accounted for after the explosion, the FDNY said. Con Edison has shut down gas service in the area. The utility says it’s looking into whether gas complaints were filed there recently. A neighbor who lives on Second Avenue and East 7th Street told NBC 4 New York he was home when he heard a loud explosion that “shook everything.” “When I went outside, I saw people running and broken glass everywhere,” said the neighbor, a music producer who gave his name as David. He said within two minutes, at least 20 fire trucks rushed to the scene and more were still arriving as he spoke to NBC 4 New York. A five-alarm fire draws 45 units and 200 firefighters. Prayers for everyone affected. AP Images
