Davy Jones’ Funeral Held For Immediate Family

Private service held Wednesday in Florida; public memorials planned in the U.S. and Manchester, England. By John Mitchell Davy Jones in 1967 Photo: Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Image A private funeral service for Davy Jones was held near the former Monkees lead singer’s home in Hollywood, Florida, on Wednesday. Only immediate family attended the small service, Reuters reported. Jones’ former Monkees bandmates — Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith — did not attend to avoid attracting crowds. Jones’ ashes will be transported to his native Manchester, England, where a public memorial service is planned for next week. Another public memorial is being planned, but the date and location have not been confirmed, though it will likely take place in either Los Angeles or New York. There has been some talk that the surviving Monkees will perform at one of the public memorials, though Dolenz, Tork and Nesmith have not confirmed any performance plans. “The three of us, Mike and Peter and I, we have never worked together just as a threesome,” Dolenz told the Associated Press on Tuesday (via the New York Times ). “We’ve been talking, we’ve been communicating, but it’s way too early, I think, to project or predict anything like that.” Jones died on February 29 after suffering a heart attack while attending to his horses at his Florida farm, where he’d been living in recent years with his wife, Jessica. He is survived by his wife and four daughters. The singer rose to fame as the teen heartthrob lead singer of the popular made-for-TV ’60s pop group the Monkees. Born on December 30, 1945, Jones began his career as a child actor, appearing in a British daytime soap opera and radio plays before landing a Tony nomination at age 16 for his role as the Artful Dodger in a Broadway production of “Oliver.” With the Monkees, Jones helped create some of the most iconic pop of the 1960s, including hits “Daydream Believer,” “Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)” and “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You.” Though the group’s popularity was relatively short-lived, Jones continued to successfully tour and perform on TV and in films throughout the ’80s and ’90s, and was slated to mount a U.K. tour in honor of the Monkees’ 45th anniversary in May along with Tork and Dolenz. Chris Brown’s Fortune Dropping May 8

Brown shows off a more polished side on cover art for upcoming album. By Sarah Brotherton Chris Brown Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Fresh off his Grammy win for Best R&B album, Chris Brown announced Thursday (March 1) that his next album, Fortune, will be released May 8. Fans have been waiting for album news since Brown dropped the single “Turn Up the Music” in January followed by a music video the next month, which racked up more than 8 million views in its first week. In addition, Brown’s second single from the album, “Strip,” is rapidly climbing the Urban Radio charts. Brown also revealed the album’s cover art Thursday, showing off a more polished side to #TeamBreezy. Donning a retro-inspired skinny suit, thin black tie and thick black-framed glasses, the cover unveils a more mature, sleek side to the 22-year-old artist. As he stands underneath a bright light shining down on him, the word “Fortune” is collaged behind him in different languages. The road to Brown’s new album release has already been a busy one. With two performances at the Grammys and a surprise appearance at the 2012 NBA All-Star halftime show alongside Pitbull, Breezy has been doing some serious PR leading up to the album drop. Brown has also stirred up some controversy in the past few weeks by lashing out at his detractors following the Grammys, collaborating with ex-girlfriend Rihanna on two remixes after assaulting her just three years ago and allegedly stealing a fan’s iPhone . Fortune is available for pre-order at ChrisBrownWorld.com with a free instant download of “Turn Up the Music,” and the album will hit iTunes for pre-sale April 10. Will you check out Brown’s latest project? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists Chris Brown

Davy Jones Cause Of Death Was Heart Attack

An autopsy confirmed that Monkees singer Davy Jones died as a result of a heart attack. By Gil Kaufman Davy Jones Photo: Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Image A day after the sudden passing of former Davy Jones, the medical examiner’s office in Martin County, Florida completed an autopsy on the former teen heartthrob on Thursday morning and concluded he died of a heart attack.
According to E! Online, tests revealed that the 1960s heartthrob
was felled by ventricular fibrillation due to severe coronary atherosclerosis. In other words, he died as a result of an abnormal heart rhythm caused by the blocking of blood flow to the heart due to hardening of the arteries. Toxicology tests could take another six to eight weeks, but authorities don’t believe that there is anything else to blame for the 66-year-old “Daydream Believer” singer’s death. TMZ reported on Thursday that Jones suffered the heart attack at a ranch near his Florida home where the former jockey wannabe was visiting his horses. A ranch hand saw Jones in distress in his car and called an ambulance, which took the 1960s TV star to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Jones is survived by his third wife, Jessica, and four children from previous marriages. His former TV band mate paid tribute to Jones following his death, with drummer/singer Mickey Dolenz saying in a statement, “the time we worked together and had together is something I’ll never forget. He was the brother I never had and this leaves a gigantic hole in my heart.” Peter Tork added, “It is with great sadness that I reflect on the sudden passing of my long-time friend and fellow adventurer, David Jones. His talent will be much missed; his gifts will be with us always. Adios to the Manchester Cowboy.” Guitarist Michael Nesmith posted a lengthy tribute on his Facebook page, writing, “That David has stepped beyond my view causes me the sadness that it does many of you. I will miss him, but I won’t abandon him to mortality,” he said. “I will think of him as existing within the animating life that insures existence. I will think of him and his family with that gentle regard in spite of all the contrary appearances on the mortal plane.

David’s spirit and soul live well in my heart, among all the lovely people, who remember with me the good times, and the healing times, that were created for so many, including us.

I have fond memories. I wish him safe travels.” Related Artists The Monkees

Wiz Khalifa Calls VMA Nomination ‘A Good Sign’

‘Black and Yellow’ rapper says Best New Artist nominees ‘are all people who have their own movements.’ By Rob Markman Wiz Khalifa Photo: Raymond Boyd/ Michael Ochs Archives/ Getty Images Before Wiz Khalifa saw his career take flight, his hometown of Pittsburgh stood as a relative unknown on the hip-hop map. The Taylor Gang general’s breakout hit, “Black and Yellow,” changed that, and now Wiz is being rewarded with a Best New Artist nomination at the 2011 MTV VMAs . “It’s my first video, so I wanted to make it like that classic. You can’t do a first video over again,” Wiz said of the concept behind his popular video, which has raked in over 89 million views on YouTube. “When I think about stuff like that, I thought about Snoop’s [appearance in Dr. Dre’s] ‘[Nuthin’ but a] G Thang’ — like a real hometown-vibe video, things that really, really show the artist in their element. I figured if I went that way with it, then I couldn’t really lose.” Wiz is proud that he is able to rep for his town and said that being in the conversation with other big-time rappers like Lil Wayne and Drake helps him provide inspiration for Pittsburgh’s up-and-coming talents. “It’s good morale for Pittsburgh, because we never got that much love,” he said. “All of our artists have been known on a certain scene or a certain radar, but to be put up there with the greatest rappers and to have their own is really, really big for the city.” The Best New Artist competition is tough, however: Wiz is up against his tourmate, Big Sean (“My Last”), Kreayshawn (“Gucci Gucci”), Tyler, the Creator (“Yonkers”) and indie-pop band Foster the People (“Pumped Up Kicks”). “I think it’s really good competition, and it’s just a good sign of the new wave of how an artist can come up and get recognition these days,” Khalifa said. “Big Sean, I know his situation, how he came from nothing. Kreayshawn, she built her buzz similar with the Internet, and Tyler as well. These are all people who have their own movements.” While each Best New Artist nominee is different in their own right, Wiz finds a common thread that binds them: “All of us, we’re really just living our dreams and getting nominated for it, so it’s excellent.” You can vote for general VMA categories, including Best New Artist, by visiting vma.mtv.com or m.mtv.com on your mobile phone. In addition, you can get in on Best New Artist text voting by texting BNA to 66333 on your wireless phone. Voting continues through the show, which airs live August 28 at 9 p.m. ET. Kelly Brook Staged Loving Post Abortion Bathing Suit Pics of the Day

I feel like I’ve seen these pictures before, but I’m too lazy to dig through the archives of this site, cuz I really don’t care enough to bother, however, the report claims these are some post “Miscarriage” pics of Kelly Brook and her baby daddy who never was, cuz they decided it was best for her career to abort, after the publicity of her pregnancy died down, pretend its a miscarriage and go back to exploiting her natural tits as hard as she can before hitting 40, at least that’s what I assume happened…. Here she is trying to strike a nerve with the public by bringing out her lover and showing how much she loves him in this dark time, you know sticking together through the rough patch bullshit, but hiring a paparazzi to spread the word all while showing off her massive tits in a conservative one piece bathing suit, cuz sluts who have abortions just go right back to bikinis, while suffering and hurting women go to one pieves…. as to seem still devastated over the “Miscarriage”, and who really cares, cuz as I mentioned, and where you should have stopped reading, provided you are reading, she brought out her tits… Sure, I like her better FULLY NAKED AND CONVERED IN LIPSTICK WHILE HER PUSSY WINKS / STICKS ITS TONGUE OUT AT ME , but this will do…

DJ Pete Tong Celebrates 20 Years Of Dance Music On BBC Radio 1

DJ talks to MTV News about the rise of dance music in the U.S. and beyond. By Adam Stewart Pete Tong Photo: MTV News It is nearly impossible to picture the dance music landscape without the finely tuned ear, and of course, the iconic voice of the legendary Pete Tong. After over 1900 broadcasts, the DJ kicks off his 20th anniversary celebration on BBC Radio 1 on Friday (at 3 p.m. ET), rolling out the Top 20 tracks of the past two decades, as voted on by his listeners. After DJ’ing at various smaller stations in his early years, Tong burst onto BBC Radio 1 in 1991 with his weekly “Essential Mix” broadcast — which has since become the Holy Grail of dance music aficionados across the globe. Tong admits, however, that it was a touch of luck that put him in the chair as one of the most influential names in dance music. “It was a little bit of being in the right place at the right time,” Tong told MTV News recently while in Miami, where he again hosted his massive Radio 1 Pool Party at the Surfcomber. Unlike corporate American radio, British DJs have more freedom to play what they see fit; they are the eyes and ears of the culture burgeoning around them, and are tasked with bringing the next big sound out in to the open. This in turn gives underground talent a chance to flourish and be exposed to the dance music audience that has grown massive since its beginnings in the late 1980s. “They didn’t have anyone to speak to the biggest youth culture movement since punk rock,” he explained. “I landed on my feet at Radio 1 in ’91, with a big audience ready to go, and we were off and running.” Now, to be featured on Pete Tong’s weekly radio show, broadcast/streamed to millions around the world, is truly an anointment of success. You don’t go anywhere without Pete’s blessing, and his influence has even helped usher in a new age of dance music here in the States. But he’s also ready to credit others with the genre’s recent growth. “You’ve got to celebrate the acknowledgement and success and all of the doors that have been opened by someone like David Guetta; it just makes the whole scene bigger,” Tong said. “But like any scene, not everybody in it is going to like the same thing. And for the extreme right wing, there’s always going to be a left-wing reaction. What I think is most positive is for all the excitement and headlines that have been generated by David Guetta’s collaborations with the likes of will.i.am. “I’ve been around a long time, and I’ve seen America flirt with dance music before, back in the days when the Prodigy had broken out and it was straight on to Lollapalooza,” Tong observed. “Everyone was getting really, really excited, [but] the thing about that is everyone got excited on a festival level, and it never really leaked down into the roots of society, whereas it definitely has more of a hold now.” Tong said one difference now is that pop and hip-hop artists are incorporating dance music in their work. “[M]ost VIP rooms were playing hip-hop across the country a few years ago, and now everyone wants to book electronic acts and dance music acts,” he said. “I can only commend people like David [Guetta] for knocking that brick wall down, and everyone runs in behind him, and it will be like the tower of Babel: Everyone’s going to be speaking a different language, which can only be a good thing!” Tong will embrace this movement when he releases a trio of new mix albums over the next several months. First up is a Future Underground mix with Riva Starr, due out April 11. Then he’ll release a summer mix to complement his new Friday night “All Gone Pete Tong” residency at Pacha Ibiza, after which he’s dropping his first ever studio Essential Mix, slated for August 8. In the meantime, we’ll hear his new single, “Dawn” (working title), an epic piano anthem he teased while in Miami last month.

Taylor Lautner Fist-Bumps Tom Cruise In His #5 MTV Moment

Lautner will debut the ‘Abduction’ trailer and chat with MTV News this Wednesday at 7:56 p.m. ET. By MTV News staff Taylor Lautner Photo: MTV For a while, Taylor Lautner was pretending he wouldn’t be able to make it to the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Of course, faithful members of Team Jacob know how that turned out: The “Twilight” star was on hand to present an exclusive “Eclipse” clip, take the stage to accept a Best Movie win for “New Moon” and take part in a ridiculous spoof with Robert Pattinson called “Bad-Ass Cops.” But in the run-up to the big show, Lautner had some fun, during an MTV promo, suggesting he might have other plans for his evening — plans that didn’t make Tom Cruise very happy. As we count down the days until “MTV First: Taylor Lautner” hits the air and the Web on Wednesday, April 13, at 7:56 p.m. — and count off our favorite encounters with the young star — we hauled the promo out of our archives because: A) It still makes us laugh, and B) It’s Taylor’s #5 MTV moment. In the promo, Cruise’s egomaniacal alter-ego, Les Grossman, finishes ripping “Avatar” director James Cameron a new one — “I want it in 4-D! Do it,” he screams — and turns to Lautner to discuss the upcoming Movie Awards. “Les, we already talked about this, remember?” Lautner tells him. “My agents told you that weekend is my best friend’s wedding.” “Understood. All cool,” Les says, and brings in a schlubby fella he says will stand in for Lautner at the wedding. Despite Taylor’s skepticism, Grossman says that everything’s going to work out, then offers up his fists for Tay-Tay to pound. Don’t miss “MTV First: Taylor Lautner” this Wednesday at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. Tune in to see Lautner debut the trailer for “Abduction,” followed by a live 30-minute interview on MTV.com.
