Ariana Grande Obliterates Spotify Records with "Thank U, Next"

Just weeks after ending her engagement to Pete Davidson, Ariana Grande dropped a new single , “Thank U, Next.” The powerful anthem, a tribute to her exes, is smashing music records. Its lyrics have also inspired November’s hottest meme. Billboard Woman of the Year Ariana Grande keeps setting new records only to surpass them. In recent days, she’s been doing it with the same song, as she shared on Instagram. “Thank u, next has surpassed 100 MILLION streams on spotify in only 11 days,” reads a graphic shared on social media. The graphic puts that in perspective: “it is the fastest song in HISTORY to reach this milestone.” Ariana shared the image with a very grateful black heart emoji in the captions. Keep in mind that that’s only her Spotify success. It doesn’t include people listening on YouTube — or pirating it. Her record-smashing feat doesn’t include people using other streaming services. It also doesn’t include those of us who eschew streaming music and instead immediately purchased it from iTunes or Amazon. Part of the appeal is that it’s a beautiful song. The song’s real meaning also contributed to its success. “Thank U, Next” is an anthem to Ariana’s exes — to three, in particular. Ariana had an 8-month relationship with Big Sean from 2014 to 2015. “Thought I’d end up with Sean / But he wasn’t a match,” Ariana sings. Starting in the summer of 2015, Ariana dated backup dancer Ricky Alvarez for about a year. “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh,” Ariana sings. Famously, Ariana got engaged to Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson, and broke things off in October. “Even almost got married / And for Pete, I’m so thankful,” Ariana’s lyrics affirm. On a sadder note, she dated Mac Miller for two years starting in 2016. He died just a few months ago. “Wish I could say, ‘Thank you’ to Malcolm / ‘Cause he was an angel,” Ariana sings bittersweetly. “Thank U, Next” appeals to people as a song and as an athem. Some can relate in their own lives — they really appreciate their past loves and past relationships. Others are just Ariana Grande fans and love to hear how at peace she is with her romantic past. But it’s more than just a song, folks. It’s a meme. For ages now, social media has been filled with “one taught me love, one taught me patience, one taught me pain” posts. These posts, quoting lyrics from Ariana’s song, can do everything from critique three films or three characters or three condiments. Of course, Ariana’s release of this song such a short time after ending her relationship with Pete Davidson has fueled conspiracy theorists. There are people in the world who believes that all celebrity activities, from relationships to their art to overdoses and deaths, are a scripted facade. These are the same people who use words like “illuminati” and “Deep State” with total sincerity.  So they think that for some unknowable reason, Ariana and Pete were “ordered” by, like, Beyonce or George Soros to get engaged, then split. According to this admittedly hilarious theory, Ariana had this song prepared and mixed for whenever they were ordered to break up. Why? Maybe, like, mind-control embedded in the song. It did release right before election day! Ariana being a talented and passionate musician with the resources to pull together a song quickly is apparently too simple of an explanation. There is a glaring omission from Ariana’s song — her ex Graham Phillips. They performed together on Broadway along with current Dynasty star Elizabeth Gillies. You might know Graham from The Good Wife or from his more recent appearance on Riverdale as a seriously awful dude. Our guess is that the fact that they dated in 2011, when Ariana was mostly just known as a Nickelodeon star, is a factor. Also, she probably just views Graham as a friend whom she once dated. There’s a difference between that and an “ex.” In case you were wondering if there was bad blood, we looked into it and found no evidence of hard feelings. In fact, they staged a mini-reunion this past summer with another former castmate.  Ariana was probably right to narrow her scope of exes to a handful. Pete Davidson: I’m Sorry I’m Such a Jackass, OK?!

So a lot of people haven't been too into Pete Davidson lately. Well, a lot of people haven't been into Pete Davidson for a long time, but let's just focus on what's been going on lately, OK? His breakup with Ariana Grande has quite a bit to do with this — she has a lot of really hardcore fans, and they're not happy with him right now. But even besides all the Ariana drama, he's gotten a ton of backlash for some jokes he made about Dan Crenshaw last week on Saturday Night Live. In case you missed this story and also don't keep up with politics, Dan Crenshaw is a Congressman-elect from Texas. He's also a veteran who wears an eye patch because his eye was destroyed in combat. Last week during the Weekend Update segment, Pete was mocking the appearance of several candidates in the midterm elections. And when Crenshaw came up, he said that he looked like “a hit man in a porno movie.” “I'm sorry,” he continued, “I know he lost his eye in war or whatever. Whatever.” Except to many people, it was not whatever. Pete got a whole lot of hate for his comment, which was definitely fair. As Crenshaw himself tweeted, SNL should recognize “that vets don't deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes.” It was honestly a pretty big controversy last week. So what about this week?! Pete showed up on Weekend Update once again, this time to apologize. “I mean this from the bottom of my heart,” he explained, “it was a poor choice of words.” “The man is a war hero and he deserves all the respect in the world, and if any good came of this, maybe it was that for one day the left and the right came together to agree on something: that I'm a dick .” At that point, Dan Crenshaw showed up and asked “You think?” Pete apologized directly to him, and he accepted it — it was a genuinely nice moment. But then Crenshaw's phone started ringing with an Ariana Grande song as his ringtone. And that's when things got beautiful. The song played for a bit, and then Pete told him that to get him back for what he said during the last episode, he could check out a picture of him and mock his appearance. When they pulled up a photo of Pete, Crenshaw said that he looked like “if the meth from Breaking Bad was a person.” Next, he said he looked like “a troll doll with a tapeworm,” and then “Martin Short from Santa Clause 3.” For that one, he added that “one of those people was good on SNL,” meaning Martin Short, obviously. To wrap things up, Crenshaw gave a serious message about what this whole scandal could teach us all — how important it is to respect veterans. And at the end of the video, when the audience was applauding, you can hear Pete lean in and tell him “you're a good man.” So everything's been settled, right? Is Pete likable yet? Check out the video below to see the whole thing for yourself, and let us know your thoughts:

Ariana Grande: Named Woman of the Year By Billboard!

Ariana Grande capped off what’s already been a legendary year by writing a new song to her exes . She was the one with Big Dick Energy the whole time. Billboard recognizes that, and has chosen Ari as their Woman of the Year. It’s a huge deal. Billboard has announced that Ariana Grande is their 2018 Billboard Woman of the Year. “Billboard’s 13th annual Women In Music event will take place December 6 in a return to New York City,” Billboard shared in a statement. And they have already decided which music superstar they’ll be honoring at the event. It was probably an easy decision to reach. “And,” the statement says. “We can now officially announce Ariana Grande as our 2018 Billboard Woman of the Year.” To quote Kim Kardashian: it’s what she deserves . “2018 has been huge for Grande,” the statement continues. Billboard says: “As the pop superstar launched Top 40 hits like ‘God Is A Woman,’ ‘Breathin,’ and ‘No Tears Left to Cry’ under the Billboard Hot 100.” That announcement is a great reminder that “Goodnight N Go” is vastly underappreciated and maybe the most underrated song of her album. Ariana had that success with singles “while seeing her album, Sweetener , hit #1 on the Billboard 200.” “And earn the largest streaming week ever for a pop album by a female artist upon its release,” Billboard raves. “Grande’s remarkable year transcended the charts,” Billboard points out. That is an understatement. “As she used her voice to support worthwhile causes, as well,” the statement notes. “She participated in March For Our Lives in support for gun control legislation,” Billboard continues. “And,” the statement says. “Has been an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness.” This was a very timely thing to mention, because Ariana had just spoken on the subject. Billboard cites that, just the day before their announcement, Ariana had responded to a fan tweet with a powerful message. “In all honesty,” Ariana wrote to a fan. “Therapy has saved my life so many times.” “If you’re afraid to ask for help, don’t be,” she encourages her followers. Ariana promises: “You don’t have to be in constant pain and you can process trauma.” Having both witnessed and survived a sickening terrorist attack just last year, Ariana knows the impact of trauma. “i’ve got a lot of work to do,” Ariana admits. “But it’s a start to even be aware that it’s possible.” Billboard was clearly impressed. And Ariana has done so much more. “Grande also helped organize the One Love Manchester benefit concert in response to aid the victims of the Manchester arena bombing,” the statement mentions. That benefit was one “which was broadcast to 50 countries and raised more than $23 million.” “With this year’s honor,” Billboard continues. “Grande now joins the likes of past Woman of the Year recipients: Selena Gomez, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift.” Those music legends make for some very fine company. Billboard concludes: “The ceremony and red carpet pre-show will be broadcast live on Twitter from 7 to 10pm Eastern on December 6.” Obviously, awards are only as valued as those who receive them. Ariana is at the absolute top of her industry. She’s a living legend and she has been for years. Her latest single, “Thank You, Next” surpassed expectations and smashed records on its own. We are thankfully every day that we have the privilege of living at the same time as unsurpassed talents like Ariana. Taylor Swift: Mocked by Pundits, Comedians for Failed Political Endorsement

Taylor Swift shocked most of the free world several weeks ago when she came out of the woods and threw her support behind a pair of Democratic political candidates in Tennessee. In a heartfelt and lengthy Instagram post, the singer endorsed Jim Cooper for House of Representatives in her native state and Phil Bredesen for Senate. How did her preferred nominees do? Well… Cooper defeated Jody Bell by a whopping 35 points in what was clearly a not very competitive race. But Bredesen failed to help Democrats gain a majority over Republicans in the Senate. He lost by about 14 points to Marsha Blackburn. Oh well, right? You can’t win ’em all and the important thing is that Swift used her platform for something she believes in, prompting an enormous surge in voter registration by doing so . Nope, sorry. That wasn’t the important thing according to at least one Conservative pundit out there. Fox News host Laura Ingraham took to Twitter after Bredsen’s failed bid to rub his loss in the face of the pop star, something totally normal and mature for her to do. “Hey @taylorswift13, haters gonna hate. #shakeitoff,” Ingraham wrote following the election results. Ingraham has a history of going after young singer, as she previously labeled Ariana Grande as spoiled and entitled . In this case, however, she wasn’t the only famous person to cite Swift’s endorsement in her summary of the midterm elections. Stephen Colbert also poked fun at the Tennessee Senator outcome during his live episode of The Late Show. “I guess Tay-Tay didn’t have that much sway-sway, and Blackburn’s support for the Trump administray-stray eventually outweighed-weigh the president’s support for higher teacher pay-pay at the end of the day-day,” he joked. He poorly joked, we should add. After failing to offer her support for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and after remaining silent for years on basically all social issues, Swift took social media followers by surprise exactly one month ago. “In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now,” she wrote at the outset of her unexpected endorsement at the time. She continued: “I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. “I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.” What issues did Taylor have with eventual winner Blackburn? “She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. “She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. “These are not MY Tennessee values.” In the end, Swift’s message earned her mockery from Donald Trump and a few others out there. But we hope she was not dismayed from getting more involved in the future. She has a very powerful voice. It would be a shame if she chose not to use it. Ariana Grande Debuts Single, Nearly Falls on Her Face

A few months ago, Ariana Grande fell hard for Pete Davidson. Then, this week on Ellen, Ariana Grande nearly fell hard while singing about Pete Davidson. The beloved pop star took to the aforementioned talk show host's stage on Wednesday morning in order to sing, for the first time in front of actual people, the new tune “Thank U, Next.” This single has received plenty of attention of late because it was written about multiple ex-boyfriend of Grande's, including Davidson, to whom she was engaged for most of the summer. It was also released just a short time before Davidson commented on the couple's break-up during a segment on Weekend Update just a few days ago. Decked out in all white while belting out the anthem alongside friends Tayla Parx and Victoria Monet, Grande may have been taking a slight jab at Davidson by making it look like she was at a wedding. Then, she stepped up on a chair, sang a bit more, stepped down… stumbled and nearly crashed to the floor. “Oh my God!” you can hear Ariana say in the video featured here, even though she did recover and went on to complete the performance. Later on, the rendition grew especially emotional for Grande during a verse about her parents. “One day I’ll walk down the aisle. Holding hands with my mama,” Ariana sang, through tears. “I’ll be thanking my dad. ‘Cause she grew from the drama.” Grande, of course, has been through a ton over the past couple years. She was on stage in Manchester when a bomb exploded in the arena and killed over 20 fans. Her serious ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, then recently died of a drug overdose . Grande was engaged to Davidson at the time of this tragic death, only for that relationship to conclude and for the exes to end up on terrible terms . Just as she does in the footage here, however, Grande continues to push through. Check out her debut performance of “Thank U, Next” right now!

Ariana Grande & Pete Davidson Breakup: Soon to Get Even Uglier?!

When the world learned that Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson were engaged , fans were immediately skeptical of the pairing. But even those who predicted that Pete and Ariana would break up had little idea that the relationship would end so quickly — or flameout so dramatically. If you’ve been keeping up with the situation, then you’re probably aware that things got ugly between the exes in a major way last week. It all started when Davidson joked about the breakup during a promo for this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live . Ariana immediately clapped back on social media, tweeting: “For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh.” Grande then released a song in which she addressed the breakup — a single that she released just 30 minutes before SNL aired. Now, that’s some grade-A shade-throwing, and it was widely expected that the situation would deteriorate from there. But thankfully, it seems Pete and Ariana have both reached the decision to call a cease-fire. “They have no contact now and she keeps moving forward,” a source close to the situation tells People magazine. “She seems very happy and positive. She isn’t talking about dating and is instead focused on work and herself.” As for Davidson, the insider says the young comic is taking it all in stride. “Pete’s unfazed,” the source tells People. “It’s true they’re not in agreement about things after the breakup. “A lot of people thought he was the wild card in the relationship, but that’s not true. Pete has and will always joke about his life, with or without her.” Indeed, Ari has been quite outspoken on the situation, addressing the breakup directly in the lyrics “Thank U, Next”: “Plus I met someone else / We havin’ better discussions / I know they say I move on too fast / But this one gon’ last / ‘Cause her name is Ari / And I’m so good with that.” The same night the song was released, Davidson spoke candidly about the split during the “Weekend Update” segment of SNL: “The last thing I will say is I know some of you are curious about the breakup, but the truth is it’s nobody’s business, and sometimes things just don’t work out, and that’s okay,” he said. “She’s a wonderful, strong person, and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world.” Of course, Davidson’s plea for privacy and compassion came on the heels of a joke about a wounded war veteran , but that’s a discussion for another time. Leah’s Lemonade: Mac Miller’s Death Ruled “Accidental Overdose”

Read the rest here:

We now know what killed Rapper Mac Miller. The The L.A. County Coroner’s Office ruled is death an “accidental overdose.”  The toxicology findings found that the rapper died from “mixed drug toxicity,” specifically fentanyl, coke, and alcohol. The amounts of each substance wasn’t enough to be deadly but the combination of all the substances was lethal. Miller was found by his assistant and was pronounced dead on the scene. There was a list of drugs found at his house like Xanax, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and generic Adderall. Source: Chelsea Lauren/ WireImage / Getty Speaking of Mac, his last girlfriend Ariana Grande put out a song noting the late rapper. She put out “Thank You, Next” about all the lessons all her exes taught her. She mentioned her relationship with Detroit rapper Big Sean as well as her failed engagement to comedian Pete Davidson. Her lyrics says “ Thought I’d end up with Sean / But he wasn’t a match / Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh / Even almost got married / And for Pete, I’m so thankful / Wish I could say ‘thank you’ to Malcolm / ‘Cause he was an angel.” If you want to know about how Rihanna ain’t playing with 45… Let’s just say Trump should be checking his mailbox for a possible cease and desist. Mac Miller: Cause of Death Revealed

It’s been nearly two months since Mac Miller passed away of an apparent overdose at his home in San Fernando Valley. Now, the reports that Miller’s death was a direct result of his substance abuse have been confirmed by an autopsy and toxicology report. According to findings released by the L.A. County Coroner’s Office moments ago, Miller’s death was the result of “multiple drug toxicity.” Fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol were all present in the 26-year-old’s system at the time of his death. According to TMZ, the amount of any one of those drugs would not have been enough to kill Miller, but the combination proved lethal. The report also contains new information about the discovery of Mac’s body, which was found by his assistant, who immediately called 911. According to the recording of that call and the statement the assistant gave to police, Miller was found on his bed in a “praying position.” In his 911 call, the unidentified assistant described Miller as “blue” and stated that blood was coming out of his nose. While a medical examiner previously described Miller’s death as a “mystery,” all signs pointed to a lethal overdose from the start. Police found a large number of pills in Miller’s home, including Xanax, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, and generic Adderall. A rolled up $20 bill with a white powdery residue was discovered in Mac’s pocket. And sadly, the cause of death does not come as a surprise to those who knew the rapper best. Mac’s struggles with addiction were well-documented over the years. In May, Miller was arrested on hit-and-run charges after he crashed his car into a streetlight pole in Los Angeles and then fled the scene on foot. When police arrested Miller at his home, the rapper blew twice the legal limit in a breathalyzer test. The incident occurred shortly after Miller’s breakup with Ariana Grande. In response to the news, Grande tweeted, “Pls take care of yourself.” The medical examiner who performed Miller’s autopsy also documented his many tattoos in the above drawing obtained by TMZ. In a heartbreaking acknowledgment of his struggles with mental illness and addiction, the rapper sported tattoos that read, “So confused” and “Only so much time left in this crazy world.” Our thoughts go out to Miller and his friends and family during this difficult time.  View Slideshow: Pete Davidson Accused of Taunting Mac Miller With Ariana Grande Pics; Pop Star REELING From Tragedy & Split [UPDATED]

Jill Duggar: I Love Derick Dillard More Than I Love Our Kids!

So Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard … Things have been pretty weird for them lately, huh? Well, they’ve been weird for years, but that’s just how things go in Duggar relationships. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that things have been different. It all started several months ago when rumors began swirling that Derick was cheating on Jill . The rumors started with anonymous claims about his unfaithfulness, then when Duggar fans and haters began to notice, that’s when things really started heating up. And Jill and Derick haven’t done too much to fight those rumors — quite the opposite, actually. A couple of months ago, Jill shared a photo of her bible, and everyone quickly noticed that she had an entire passage about adultery highlighted . In the caption of that photo, she wrote that she was praying for Derick, which … not a great sign. Last month, she shared another photo of more reading material — this time, she had a book about boundaries and creating them with toxic people in your life . Interesting, right? But now, in a brand new post, she’s changing her tune a bit. And it sure is nauseating. Along with the photo, she wrote a sickeningly sweet caption that she kicked off with a “man of my dreams” hashtag. (Sad dreams, Jill, but OK.) She then thanked him “for being my man and my best friend!” “Love you!” she continued. “When I count my blessings, you’re at the top of my list!” “So grateful to God for you!” She wrapped things up with some kiss emojis and a “so in love” hashtag. For one, it’s kind of strange that she straight up said that Derick is her number one blessing, huh? Like, “sorry, Israel and Samuel, Mommy loves Daddy more than you.” For two, pretty much no one was here for this silliness. “In what universe does a girl/young woman ‘dream’ of marrying a lazy, bigoted, chronically unemployed grifter who drifts from job to job and resorts to GoFundMe scams to support her and her kids ?” one of her followers asked. Another person said that instead of being the man of her dreams, Derick is more likely “a man of your nightmares!” “I am not really sure what you see in that man,” yet another doubtful fan wrote. “He is soo full of himself!! The god I believe in would not hate or chastize a person for being gay or transgender .” Other people pointed out that everything Jill said is really the kind of thing that would be much more meaningful if she actually said it to Derick instead of posting about it on social media. Still others insisted that she’s just trying to talk him up because everyone hates him . One of those people said that “Jill has to make him ‘look good,’ it’s a way of being in denial to herself that she is with the wrong person.” “But she has no choice bc of her family and their values of marrying strangers and arranged at that.” But whatever her motivations were for posting this, or however mistaken she may be, Derick is still into it. “Aw, I’m blessed beyond measure by you babe, and I’ll love you forever,” he responded to Jill on Twitter. “Thanks for being the best wife and mom to our boys! We all love you so much!” View Slideshow: 19 Scandals & Counting: The Duggar Family’s Most Shameful Moments The thing is that no matter what anybody thinks about any of this, and really no matter what Derick does, Jill is never going to leave him. And how frustrating is that?
