Singer Billie Joe Armstrong promises that their ninth studio album will ‘blow minds.’ By Gil Kaufman Green Day Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Green Day have covered a lot of topics over the years: politics, war, greed, depression, boredom and the mind-numbing spiral of drug addiction. But carnal knowledge? Not so much. According to a YouTube video posted by the group chronicling the sessions for their upcoming ninth studio album , that will be remedied in the near future. Of course, Green Day being Green Day, they didn’t put it quite as delicately as all that. “I’m just trying to think of how we can make people feel more attached … as attached to this record as we feel,” says an unseen questioner (who sounds exactly like bassist Mike Dirnt) in the recently posted 35-second clip, which features scenes of Dirnt skateboarding and playing ping-pong. “I think it’s so personal and it is so voyeuristic,” replies singer Billie Joe Armstrong, shown adjusting levels at a mixing board. “And it is … this is the first time we’ve ever really sung about f—ing.” And there you (bluntly) have it. Green Day are opening the door to their hearts by singing about the oldest topic there is in rock and roll. The thing, you know, that actually gave rock and roll its name. But still, Dirnt wonders if even that’s enough. “I know, but it’s that daunting … they’re gonna get, ugh … you can sit there and hold the record, look at a piece of art. ‘Here you go, come on in even further,’ ” he says. “The songs are gonna f—ing blow their minds.” Armstrong tries to assuage his concerns, saying, “You’re taking it personal. You’re taking it way too personal.” Either way, the as-yet-untitled album is shaping up to be a big step away from the group’s two lauded recent efforts, American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, both of which were concept albums about the ills of modern society and Bush-era paranoia. A February 14 post from Armstrong strongly signaled that the album would tackle all things carnal. “Happy Valentine’s Day!” he tweeted . “Officially started recording the new record today. It’s F— TIME!!!!” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Green Day
It’s been far too long since Taylor Armstrong bashed her late husband in public. But, don’t worry, the latest issue of Us Weekly contains excerpts from the reality star’s disgusting upcoming memoir , “Hiding from Reality.” In the book, Taylor describes Russell as a paranoid stalker, someone who constantly asked her about past sexual partners and even posed as a potential employer in order to run a background check on his wife with her alma mater. She even found a tape recorder under her home office desk once. “For the next nearly six years, I always assumed I was being recorded in the car and at home,” Taylor writes. “I was always careful to make sure the content of my conversations was very clear.” Russell supposedly defended his actions by saying he had “been burned before” and just wanted to get to know his wife as well as possible. Years after that discovery, Armstrong added, “I went into my email settings and found that he had set it up so that all of my emails were forwarded to him the moment I received them.” Taylor says she never changed the setting or asked Russell about this issue, and it’s not like we can get his take on the allegations. What a sad, pathetic, money-hungry woman.
Yes, Taylor Armstrong really is coming out with a memoir that details the alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of late husband Russell Armstrong. It will be titled “Hiding from Reality: My Story of Love, Loss and Finding the Courage Within,” and Taylor unveiled the book cover last night on Bravo: “My book takes readers behind the glamour of Beverly Hills to show them the terrible violence I suffered, and the slow and painful process of rebuilding my shattered life,” Armstrong said in a statement. “I want readers in abusive relationships to learn from my suffering and use my book to help them find their own courage within.” Yes, fellow abuse victims, you can learn a lot from Taylor, namely: if you are rich and famous and have a televised platform from which you can promote, you, too, can profit from the suicide of your estranged husband. What do you think of Armstrong releasing this book?
