The body of a 23-year-old pregnant woman was discovered in the basement of a woman who had been pretending to be pregnant for months… She had been cut open and the unborn fetus was removed. A Wisconsin woman was arrested after allegedly killing a pregnant mother, cutting her baby from the womb and telling cops the child was hers. Milwaukee police are releasing very few details of the incident, including the name of the suspect, but say it was a case of ‘foetal abduction’. The family of the victim later identified her as Maritza Ramirez-Cruz, 23, who was expecting her fourth child that she planned to name Omar. He said emergency services responded to a call on Thursday from a house near 7th and Mitchell Streets in suburban Milwaukee. The suspect said that she had just given birth to the baby, and the child was not breathing. Paramedics were unable to revive the boy and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken to the hospital but, after an autopsy of the full-term baby – and medical examinations of the woman herself – detectives became suspicious of her story. Chief Flynn said: ‘During the ensuing investigations, detectives determined that the 33-year-old woman was not, in fact, the birth mother of the baby.’ Police returned to the address the following day and found Ramirez-Cruz’s mutilated body in the basement. Chief Flynn said: ‘Evidence at the scene indicated that she had been fatally injured there, and that the baby had been removed from her womb by force. Chief Flynn did not elaborate on how the older and younger woman came into contact with each other, except to say that there was no evidence that the two were acquainted before Thursday. Police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz told MailOnline there is no indication that Ramirez-Cruz knew the 33-year-old suspect. Local residents and neighbours have been shocked by the brutal killing, and many cannot believe police have the right person in custody. On Sunday night, Ramirez-Cruz’s husband Christian Mercado told WTMJ that his wife was a ‘good person.’ Because he doesn’t speak English, Mr Mercado’s stepmother Darla Guiterrez translated for him. She said: ‘We still can’t believe it. We know it’s true but we can’t believe it and the whole family is taking it real hard.’ Jacqueline Bonilla, whose daughter lives next-door to the suspect, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: ‘She was acting like she was [pregnant]. ‘She’d push her belly out and I’d say, “Oh, she’s pregnant.”‘ Another neighbour, Keila Perez, claimed the suspect is the godmother to her daughter. ‘From what I know she had a baby, she had baby stuff in there, she has a car seat and everything in there. I don’t know what the hell is going on.’ The suspect lived in the property with a man and three other children, but police say no-one else is being considered as an accomplice. Chief Flynn said: ‘We are confident that we have the person responsible.’ Neighbors said the suspect claimed to have been pregnant for months. Ms Perez said the woman had been talking about pregnancy, and had even shown her a sonogram of the baby. She was expecting to deliver the baby by Caesarean section in coming weeks but had called Ms Perez around noon on Thursday to say she was having contractions. She said the woman’s three other children ranged in age from five to 14, and her current boyfriend was not their father. She added that the suspect had lived in the neighborhood for seven years, after moving from Puerto Rico. This ish is just crazy. We hope they don’t let this guy…”get off” the hook! A New Mexico man indicted on charges that he handed out a semen-tainted yogurt sample at a grocery store is heading to court. The U.S. attorney’s office says Anthony Garcia is scheduled to appear in an Albuquerque court Thursday and is expected to change his plea to guilty. Police say the 32-year-old Garcia was linked to the yogurt through DNA samples. He was indicted on charges of adulterating food and making false statements to federal investigators. Garcia is accused of handing out the yogurt sample at a Sunflower Market in Albuquerque in January. Officers responded after a woman said she believed the yogurt she was given was actually a bodily fluid. The woman told police that after tasting the sample she spat on the floor several times. The original trial made headlines after Amanda and her relationship with Italian boyfriend (now ex) Raffaele Sollecito were portrayed as free-spirited, lovers who were playing freaky sex games when Meredith was tragically killed. She was received with a lot of suspicion after the murder because of how her carefree behavior was perceived. She was outspoken in defending her reputation at her appeal: Tearful Amanda Knox today made a dramatic plea for her freedom as she addressed the judge and jury in her appeal trial and told them: ‘I did not kill, I did not rape, I did not steal.’ Knox, 24, spoke for just over ten minutes and needed to pause frequently for breath, at one point the judge asked her if she wanted to speak sitting down. But the American, who is fighting to avoid a possible life sentence, turned down his offer and after a gentle encouraging squeeze of her hand from her lawyer Luciano Ghirga she addressed the court. Speaking in Italian Knox pleaded her innocence for the brutal murder of Meredith Kercher and said: ‘Esteemed people of the court, it has been said many times that I am a person different than what I am. I am the same person I was four years ago, the same person, the only thing that distinguishes me from four years ago is the four years that I have suffered. ‘In four years I have lost a friend in a brutal and unexplained way. My faith in the police has been betrayed. I have had to face accusations, injustice and suggestions without foundation and I am paying for my life for something that I did not do.’ Reading without notes Knox added dramatically: ‘I am not what they say I am.
