Adam Lambert: On the Set of "If I Had You" Video

Ready to return to the set of Adam Lambert’s “If I Had You?” Earlier this week, we gave fans a look at the artist’s upcoming music video for that single, via this series of photos from it. Now, we’ve returned with even more eccentric shots of Adam and his back-up singers/dancers. An insider describes the video as “Willy Wonka meets Thriller meets Interview With The Vampire,” which sounds like the sort of thing Lambert would come up with. Looks like it, too… Click to enlarge the photos above and check out Adam in all his decked-out glory. Below, meanwhile, we’ve posted a video of Lambert on set. He’s discussing the theme behind “If I Had You” (i.e. life is worthless without the one you love) and coming across as his typical well-spoken, calm, cool, funny self. Enjoy! Music Video Preview

Diddy Says Nicki Minaj Is ‘One Of The Great Ones’

‘Nicki is up there. Her story has just begun,’ the mogul says of managing the Young Money MC. By Jayson Rodriguez Diddy Photo: MTV News Diddy is expanding his empire. The mogul recently announced the opening of a management firm that he’ll oversee in addition to his existing business holdings, which include a restaurant, clothing line and, of course, Bad Boy Records. Rick Ross was the first to ink with Diddy , describing the knowledge Diddy has as “priceless.” And now, Nicki Minaj is finalizing the paperwork that will allow the Last Train to Paris superstar to guide her career. The Young Money femcee has already been in the studio with Diddy, and he’s been singing her praises. “Nicki Minaj, she’s definitely one of the great ones,” Diddy told MTV News, speaking publicly for the first time about his new signee. “She has a long way to go, but you know how we recognized LeBron [James] was a great one, Tiger [Woods] was a great one, and Kobe [Bryant] was a great one? Nicki is up there. Her story has just begun.” So far, Nicki Minaj has released only one single, the Sean Garrett-assisted “Massive Attack,” which boasts a Hype Williams-directed video. But she’s been prominently featured on a slew of other artist’s records, including Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad,” Robin Thicke’s “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy” and Mariah Carey’s “Up Out My Face.” In February, the Queens lyricist spoke with MTV News and said she’s in no rush to release her yet-untitled debut. “With the album, just like with my mixtape, I never like to rush it,” Minaj explained. “With the album, I think it’s more important that people get accustomed to seeing a female rapper again. Before I drop an album, people need to come out and see. People don’t even know what a female rapper does. We’re so not used to seeing it. “It’s nonexistent in categories. We don’t get nominated. I need to work [the people] up to accepting a female rapper again and accepting my style and all of that — then the album will come. Honestly, I’d love to put an album out this year, but I don’t believe in rushing things either. We’ll see.” Do you think Diddy will do a good job of managing artists like Nicki Minaj? Lil’ Cease’s New Mixtape Is ‘Real Gutter, Grimy Beats’

‘It’s like a real underground album,’ the MC tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Lil Cease and Notorious B.I.G. Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Happy birthday to the one and only Notorious B.I.G. — the hip-hop legend would have been 38 years old on Friday (May 21). And, just like they did on the 13th anniversary of his death on March 9 , his fans, friends and family will be celebrating his legacy all day. One of Biggie’s closest confidants, Lil’ Cease, is not just going to play the tunes of his best friend — he’s putting out music that he feels the Notorious One would have been proud of. ” Everything Is Hardbody, the first mixtape dropping May 21 [on] B.I.’s b-day,” Cease explained. “I think that’s the day for it. It was just the timing around when I finished it — I was like, ‘This is a good day to drop it on. It’s the time when people are thinking about a Lil’ Cease or B.I. or Junior M.A.F.I.A. They’re thinking about us on March 9th or May 21.’ I was like, ‘Let’s go for that date. It will be something monumental, something special.’ When people think of B.I. Day, I’m sure I come to their minds. I’ll give them a whole 12-, 13-joint mixtape with some nice exclusive music from me. “I stepped my game up as far as the lyrics, concepts. It’s gonna show my maturity,” Cease continued about the upcoming mixtape. “I took time off from the music just to learn it. The music is different from when we was up and moving with it. You gotta be persistent with it, make authentic music. I took it back to that ’94, ’95 era. Thanks to people like Raekwon, who kinda made the music authentic again. You ain’t gotta do the dance music. I kept it basic. That real M.A.F.I.A. sound. It came out dope. I did all new music. It’s more like a free album. I wanted to do something different with the mixtape.” Busta Rhymes, Cardan and Fabolous appear on the tape as well as some new talent. “I got one I just dropped called ‘Just Here to Hustle’ with my boy Apollo Creed — he’s from L.A.,” Cease said. “We just dropped the video online — every site been showing love. I got this one called ‘Yessir’ — we about to shoot the video with my artist Cancun … it’s dope. It’s like a real underground album. If you liked the first Wu-Tang album, this is in that mode. Real gutter, grimy beats.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

Perez Hilton Calls Travis Garland An ‘Authentic Artist’

Gossip blogger says his artist is only at the ‘beginning of the beginning’ of his career. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Perez Hilton Photo: MTV News On Wednesday night’s “American Idol,” the world was introduced to Travis Garland, an artist gossip blogger Perez Hilton hopes to launch as the next big thing. Perez thinks Garland’s debut single, “Believe,” is a track that will pique music fans’ interest. “I’m so excited to be working with Travis, because he’s the first artist that I found [and] have been involved with every step of the way,” Perez told MTV News at Garland’s rehearsal for his “Idol” debut. “And we’re at this amazing moment now, and it’s exciting to see it already working. And that’s just the beginning of the beginning. “We’re looking forward to taking him on the road this summer all over and seeing his fans,” Hilton added. “He’s already got girls and guys and people who are familiar with him from NLT.” Perez is referring to the now-defunct boy band that included Garland and “Glee” star Kevin McHale, until they broke up last year. While Hilton wasn’t too familiar with NLT, he learned about Garland on the Web. “I became aware of Travis thanks to the Internet,” he said. “Over a year ago, I started working with Travis. Around that time, he did a reworking of Justin Timberlake’s song ‘Dead and Gone’ with T.I., and I loved Travis’ version so much. I was like, ‘Wow, this is different.’ And it felt real and dangerous and edgy and raw, and I was like, ‘I need to meet this kid.’ I was really blown away.” The gossip gangster believes Garland has the “it” factor. “What’s special about Travis Garland is, he’s not only a great singer and a great dancer, but he’s also a songwriter,” Perez boasted. “He also plays piano. He also produces, and he’s just a real, authentic artist. And that’s what people want nowadays.” What did you think of Garland’s debut on “American Idol”? Let us know in the comments!

Justin Bieber Transcends Race

Hmmm… maybe Justin Bieber is right for Kim Kardashian after all. Consider: The young artist has been nominated for a Black Entertainment Television Award. Does anyone else see something wrong with that statement? Bieber earned a nod in the Best New Artist category, joining Nicki Minaj, B.o.B., Young Money and Melanie Fiona. There’s something that separates Justin from those four. We just can’t put our finger on it… Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Music Programming and Specials, said of the nomination: “Bieber has crossed the color boundaries the same way that hip-hop has crossed the boundaries the other way for a number of years. He’s had rhythm in his music. He makes the type of music our audience likes.” Yes, Mr. Hill just compared Justin Bieber to just transformative artists as Diddy and Snoop Dogg. We can’t sit by and let this comparison stand! We mean, come on! Those artists did NOT have Justin’s hair.

Bay City, Again, Requesting Madonna, To Give Her A Key To The City

The quest to reach out to Bay City’s most famous offspring has begun. Mayor Charles M. Brunner has drafted a letter inviting Madonna to come home to Bay City and finally accept a key to the city. City Commissioner Christopher J. Shannon, frontman for a local rock band, is planning a Madonna tribute album in which he hopes to recruit local musicians to cover hits such as “Like a Virgin,” “Express Yourself” and “Vogue.” Guy Greve, president of the Bay Arts Council, wants to go as far as commissioning an artist to sculpt a statue of Bay City’s Material Girl. “The local arts council would like to pay homage for her artistic contributions,” he said. “I could see a sculpture of her in Bay City. One of Madonna’s famous poses could be made into a sculpture.” Brunner said he has e-mailed a letter to Madonna’s father, Silvio “Tony” Ciccone, who owns a vineyard in Suttons Bay. “I sent it to the winery initially, because that was the only e-mail address I had,” Brunner said. “And I did get an e-mail back,” he said. “They gave me, I believe, his personal e-mail address, so I sent him an e-mail and a copy of the letter inviting her to Bay City – so hopefully maybe something happens through her father.” Brunner is hopeful his words will atone for the actions of past city officials who have rejected Madonna on multiple occasions – much to the dismay of Madonna’s family still living here, including her 96-year-old grandmother. Source: Ryan J. Stanton, The Bay City Times , Telegraph Madonna, who was born in Bay City in 1958 and spent a considerable portion of her childhood visiting family here, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this past month. That prompted city leaders to reconsider bestowing upon her the infamous key to the city that Mayor Timothy G. Sullivan refused to give her in 1985, when Madonna was considered, by some, too risque for such an honor. City officials in the late 1980s also refused to accept a professional sculpture of Madonna from an Italian artist, citing a belief that her popularity would fade out in time. Nearly three decades since her rise to fame, that notion has failed to come true – Madonna remains a worldwide cultural icon. Just this week, she knocked Elvis Presley from the history books, charting her 37th Top 10 hit with her new single “4 Minutes,” a duet with Justin Timberlake. Presley officially was nudged from his standing as the artist with the most Top 10 hits in rock history, according to Billboard.com. “Far and wide, she wields significant influence in the arts and entertainment world,” said Shannon, Bay City’s 1st Ward Commissioner. “For Bay City to turn its back on that, it would be a shame.” Perhaps best known locally for calling Bay City a “smelly little town” on national television two decades ago – a reference to a former oil refinery that once polluted the city – Madonna graces the cover of Vanity Fair this month, holding the world in her hands for the magazine’s third-annual “Green” issue – her 10th cover for the magazine. Local leaders say she’s a living example to anyone growing up in Bay City with dreams of making it big in the arts world. Since moving to New York City on a whim in 1978, Madonna has gone on to sell more than 200 million albums worldwide, as well as author children’s books and star in and direct films. Today, she lives with her husband, British film director Guy Ritchie, and three children in London. Brunner notes that he met Madonna’s father in January at the Great Lakes Environmental Film Festival. Tony Ciccone catered the wine for the inaugural event at the State Theatre in Bay City. Brunner, a former rock band drummer, is hoping he’ll make a lasting connection with Madonna and her family, though he was unsuccessful in reaching out to her longtime friend and publicist Lis Rosenberg, who did not return e-mails from Brunner or The Times. “I’ll do what I can,” Brunner said. “I’ve got a one-page letter. I hope she gets an opportunity to read it. We’ll just keep working on it.” Read a .pdf of Brunner’s letter to Madonna. Martin Ciccone, Madonna’s older brother in Beverly Hills, told The Times that Bay City should invite Madonna to town and give her the key for her 50th birthday on Aug. 16. “I’d say go for it,” he said. “I cannot tell you what she would do. I want to say, yeah.” Shannon said that would be great, but as a founding member of Bay City’s Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival, he’s partial to having the singer slip into town, oh say, in mid-October. “We could even play one of her films,” he said Source ONTD

Lloyd Banks Feels ‘Back In The Loop’ Headlining New York Show

The G-Unit member brings his ‘Beamer, Benz or Bentley’ to the Nokia for his 28th birthday. By Shaheem Reid Lloyd Banks performs at the Nokia Theatre in New York City on Thursday Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Happy birthday, Lloyd Banks . The youngest G-Unit member touches number 28 on Friday (April 30). This year, the streets have been well fed with Banks’ V5 mixtape (released in December), and “Beamer, Benz or Bentley,” his collaboration with Juelz Santana, is translating from the Rotten Apple to down South and across the world. Just ask any member of the Unit who just came from their international run, during which Banks’ hit threatened to steal the show every night. On Thursday night, Banks headlined a concert at New York’s Nokia Theatre, where his openers were Jackie Chain, Cory Gunz and veteran champs Reflection Eternal. “It feels good,” Banks told MTV News before hitting the stage. “It brings me back to when I first came out. I been headlining. It’s just now I’m back in the loop. I’m a performer. My demeanor, my character from the beginning

Justin Bieber, ‘Twilight’ Stars Dominate Young Hollywood Awards

Another bloodthirsty cast, CW’s “The Vampire Diaries,” also takes honors at the ceremony on May 13. By Terri Schwartz Justin Bieber Photo: Chip Somodevilla/ Getty Images There weren’t many surprises when it comes to gossip blog Hollywood Life ‘s announcement of who made the cut for their 12th annual Young Hollywood Awards . Few things are hotter right now than “Twilight,” Justin Bieber , Disney stars or any combination of the three. So it certainly wasn’t a shocker to learn that Bieber — who’s enjoyed an extraordinarily fast ride to fame over the past year — is the recipient of the Young Hollywood Newcomer of the Year award. But the Canadian phenom couldn’t best the competition when it came to the Artist of the Year award. That honor went to another wildly popular teen: 17-year-old JoBro Nick Jonas, who nabbed the win, thanks to his solo debut with Nick Jonas and the Administration. Although there had been speculation about whether the Jonas Brothers would break up , Nick told MTV News in January that he was “just really feeling that sense of coming into my own … it’s a good feeling.” Also making the list were two young “Twilight” stars — but, surprisingly, not the pair fans might have expected. K-Stew and RPattz took home no prizes, but Nikki Reed was named Superstar in the Making, while Ashley Greene is the Young Hollywood Style Icon. Another vampire ensemble did make the cut, though, with the cast of the popular CW series “The Vampire Diaries” being named Cast to Watch. Miley Cyrus’s boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, got a nod on the list for Breakthrough of the Year, after co-starring with Cyrus in “The Last Song.” Hemsworth has a couple of films in the pipeline, including “The Throwback” and 2011’s “Arabian Nights.” The rising actor also boasts the prestigious honor of being one of Hollywood Crush’s Hump Day Hotties . The show will be held on May 13 in Los Angeles. Other notable winners included Whitney Cummings (Comedian of the Year), Chad Ochocinco (Athlete of the Year), Nina Dobrev (Young Hollywood Making Their Mark) and “90210’s” Jessica Stroup (Young Hollywood Sparkling Performance). David Guetta Was ‘Moved’ By K’Naan’s ‘Wavin’ Flag’

A video for the inspirational anthem’s remix premiered today. By Akshay Bhansali K’Naan in “Wavin’ Flag” In the past five years, K’Naan has risen in popularity around the world. The Somali-Canadian rapper/singer is fast becoming known for his inspirational, unifying and vivid material. Growing up in Mogadishu amid the still-ongoing Somali civil war was no doubt formative in making K’Naan into the artist he is today. The hip-hop music his father sent him from America was probably similarly influential. So it should come as no surprise that for his third single from the album Troubadour, he chose to tweak his song “Wavin’ Flag.” In the wake of the earthquake in Haiti earlier this year, the song became a charity single featuring 50 other Canadian artists under the group banner Young Artists for Haiti. Looking to create an urban remake, K’Naan chose producers Will.I.Am and French dance-music hitmaker David Guetta to help fine-tune “Wavin’ Flag” into a ditty with a more mainstream feel. In the video, which premiered Thursday (April29), Will.I.Am and Guetta appear before a black backdrop, but mostly, we see K’Naan inspiring people. He climbs a mountain, sings arm-in-arm with children and performs a concert, all set to the chorus, “When I get older, I will be stronger/ They’ll call me freedom/ Just like a wavin’ flag.” Indeed, the message seems clear: One can achieve the unattainable through belief and strong resolve, a recurring theme in the artist’s three-album catalog. Earlier this month, MTV News caught up with Guetta, who was tickled to have gotten the chance to, for once, slow things down. “When I heard it, I thought it was so beautiful,” Guetta said. “I was totally moved. And then I met K’Naan, and he’s a beautiful person. I was really excited. And then I heard Will was working on it. We decided to do a new version of it, and I think it’s great. “It was my first experience with a slower tempo, so I didn’t know I could handle it,” Guetta explained. “The way I make music is always: ‘Is this going to make people dance?’ That’s the only thing I think about. ‘OK, how to make this emotional?’ So, this one is all about being emotional.” “Wavin’ Flag” has been selected as the Coca-Cola’s promotional anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The soccer event will be held in South Africa, and versions of the single have been recorded in English, Spanish and Chinese. Were you inspired by K’Naan’s “Wavin’ Flag”? Let us know in the comments!
