Pete Rock Open To Working With Lupe Fiasco

‘I would love to work with him, and I wouldn’t turn my nose to it,’ veteran producer tells MTV News. By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Sway Calloway Pete Rock Photo: MTV News Pete Rock made headlines last week for getting into a little tiff with Lupe Fiasco over Rock’s classic 1992 track “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.),” but the veteran producer has put the drama behind him, and now he’s focused on his upcoming projects, including a possible collaboration with the Chicago rapper. “If the artist doesn’t like something I did or said, then we could work through it with a conversation. That’s always my goal — it’s never to add fuel to the fire,” Pete Rock told MTV News of the falling out with Lupe. “I would love to get in the studio and work with him if his management team can respect me as a man, and the label can respect me as a man, and Lupe himself can respect me as a man. I would love to work with him, and I wouldn’t turn my nose to it.” While the dust settles and we wait to see if a collaboration between the two comes to fruition, Rock is prepping for his joint LP with DJ Premier, which is set to debut next year. “We’re gonna do a 20-city European tour to announce our project that we’re working on for the spring of 2013,” he explained. “I’m working with Young Money artist Cory Gunz, who grabbed 15 of my beats and he likes them all, but I’m telling him, ‘Lil homey, take your time, do whatever your process is.” Other projects in the works include an official remake of “T.R.O.Y.,” which will commemorate the 20th anniversary of Rock and C.L. Smooth’s 1992 debut LP, Mecca and the Soul Brother , rolling around June 3. “I’m bringing C.L. Smooth back out to redo ‘Reminisce’ with a couple of today’s artists,” Rock explained, although he declined to name the artists he had in mind. He did, however, share a few of his favorite contemporary producers, including Nottz, DJ Khalil, Alchemist and Hit-Boy. Are you excited for Pete Rock’s return? Tell us below! Mac Miller Knows He’s ‘Really Makin It’ Thanks To Krispy Kreme

Mac gives MTV News his take on ‘The Baddest,’ amateur rapper Krispy Kreme’s viral video that features a shout-out of sorts to the Pittsburgh MC. By Rob Markman Mac Miller Photo: MTV Internet sensations come and go, sometimes with no rhyme or reason. Though they may be elementary, rapper Krispy Kreme has rhymes; it’s the reasoning behind “The Baddest,” his viral video that has folks scratching their heads. The clip has amassed more than a million views on YouTube since the end of April. In it, Kreme raps in his basement, bragging of his street cred and sexual prowess, all while brandishing a fake pistol. His partner, Money Maker Mike, doesn’t say a word; instead he just stares into the camera, holding a pellet rifle, wearing a light blue Mac Miller T-shirt. When MTV News caught up with Mac Miller , we asked what he thought of the clip he makes a sort of cameo in. “I don’t know, but that sh– is hilarious though,” he said. “That’s my artist. Sike, I’m just playin’. “I don’t know if he’s serious or not, but the dude with the Mac Miller shirt on has the rifle from ‘A Christmas Story’ aimed at the camera all the time and that was tight,” Mac said hours before he performed at the Bamboozle Music Festival on May 18. Clearly a parody, a snot-nosed Kreme taunts, “I bet I got more money than Jay-Z/ Compared to me Jay-Z is lazy/ Plus Beyonc— thinks that I’m cute/ It’s OK, Beyonc—, I think you’re cute too.” Krispy’s second video , “Haters Wanna Be Me” features more of the same tomfoolery. “I been shot about 500 times and I’ve done about one million crimes,” he spits in a slow, amateur drawl. Once again Money Maker Mike appears in that same Mac Miller tee. “That type of sh– is cool to me because I’m like, ‘Man I’m really makin’ it when random big videos on YouTube, they’re wearing my clothes,” the Blue Slide Park MC said. “That’s hella promotion for my clothes.” What do you think of Kripsy Kreme’s “The Baddest” video? Ray J: Sued for Missing Marc Littlejohn Apparel

Ray J continues to feel the affects of Whitney Houston’s death . This time in the wallet, however, as opposed to the heart. Indeed, the man who made Kim Kardashian famous has been sued by stylist Marc Littlejohn because he allegedly hired Ray J to wear his clothing for a Grammy-related event on February 10. The problem? Those items were supposedly left in the hotel room where Houston died and, according to the lawsuit, have been missing since the day this singer passed away. Littlejohn is therefore suing Ray J for the cost of the clothing ($2,880) and demanding either the cash amount or the duds themselves. He’s had no luck so far in either case when reaching out to the artist or his mother. [Photo: WENN.com]

David Banner Drops Free Album Featuring Chris Brown, Lil Wayne

Rapper talks to Mixtape Daily about Sex, Drugs & Video Games ; LP out now as free download. By Rob Markman David Banner Photo: MTV News Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Album : David Banner’s Sex, Drugs & Video Games Key Cameo : “Amazing” (featuring Chris Brown) Essential Info : David Banner knows a thing or two about making hit records, and he promises that his latest album, Sex, Drugs & Video Games, will feature some pretty over-the-top music and some pretty notable guests as well. Chris Brown , Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg will all appear on the LP, which Banner is offering as a free online download on DatPiff.com . Sex, Drugs & Video Games, which dropped on Tuesday (May 22), is technically a free album, but Banner is accepting donations on his DavidBanner.com website to help artists exist outside of big corporations. “What I am trying to do is make the two most important parts of the musical equation … important again: That’s the artist and that’s the fans,” Banner told MTV News back in March of what he dubs the 2M1 Movement. “Corporate entities have made the artists and the fans feel like they’re not important, where without them, it all would fall.” Banner’s goals are progressive, and a good number of his LP’s collaborators operate and are successful within the major-label system. In theory DB’s distribution method could be a conflict of interest for some, but because of Banner’s relationships with the artists he works with, he doesn’t foresee any issues. “I don’t necessarily involve people in my politics. I would tell Chris all the time, Dude, I don’t necessarily want you to be connected with the things that I believe in, because I know there is a certain sacrifice with the things that I believe,” he said. “Only thing I tell people is the record is hot and it’s my album. … Whether I connect these songs to a movement or not, it doesn’t matter because if you strip the movement off of my album, it’s jammin’.” “Amazing,” Banner’s current club banger, features Chris Brown on the hook. Though the Mississippi rapper/producer is sending a message with this album, the song is just about having a good time. “Everybody that’s around me, that supports me, they know what I stand for, and then I think vicariously through me they’re actually able to express some of things that they may not want to express in their own career,” he said. What’s your favorite track off of David Banner’s new album? Let us know in the comments. For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Tameka Foster Attorney to Usher: Did You Bang a Bridesmaid?

Welcome to The Real Housewives of Amazing Six Packs. In court once again this morning to testify in the custody hearing brought on by ex-wife Tameka Foster, Usher was grilled about an incident from a couple years ago when Foster reportedly spit on Usher and sort of threatened his life . Usher Questioned in Court Did Usher provoke this attack by cursing off his ex? No, the artist insisted over and over against allegations made by the attorney. From there, meanwhile, things got really weird, as the same lawyer questioned Usher about his relationship with Maya Fox Davis, one of Tameka’s bridesmaids from their wedding. She asked if the singer was caught “in bed” with Davis, at which point his attorney objected, claiming irrelevancy to the custody case. Usher, to his credit, handled himself as well on the stand as he handles himself on the dance floor, remaining calm and under control, with the exception of yesterday’s tears . The trial is now in recess and will continue in July.

‘Glee’ Star Darren Criss Wants ‘A Little Drama’ In Season Four

Cast teases the ‘awesomeness’ of next season, in which several characters find their voices outside McKinley High. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Christina Garibaldi “Glee” Photo: FOX Now that the graduating class of McKinley High has said their big goodbye following Tuesday’s season finale , fans might be wondering what will go down in season four. It seems that much of the cast will be dispersing across the country to pursue lives outside of the New Directions, while others stay behind to finish high school. When MTV News caught up with the cast recently, Lea Michele explained that season four’s “show-within-a-show” format will allow them to expand on the plots already introduced while also allowing new plots to breathe life into the series. “You basically have the kids who have graduated and their story lines, as well as the kids back in high school,” she said. “I think it’ll be really great because it gives us the opportunity for the characters who have been on the show for a while to move on and to start new story lines, but then the kids who are newer on the show will get to continue on.” “I think it’ll add more to the show,” Chris Colfer added, noting that with guest stars like Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson signed on to make cameos, fans should expect a lot of “awesomeness.” So is Michele equally excited by the prospect of chilling with the two fashionable A-listers on set? “They’re the best,” she gushed. “It’s really cool.” Michele and Colfer are hardly the only two characters returning to “Glee.” Show creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that everyone will be back for more. And, Darren Criss notes, it could mean some drama for Blaine and Kurt . “I think people got hung up on the idea that it’s over, which it’s not at all,” he said. “It’s just another departure point. When you graduated high school it’s not the end of the world.” “[Blaine]’s going to be a senior. I’m curious to see where his journey takes him,” Criss added. “Him and Kurt seem to be pretty strong, but Chris [Colfer] and I liked a little drama, so we like things being shook up maybe for more than one episode. So, I don’t know. We’ll see. I’m just happy to be invited to the party.”

Flaming Lips Take Aim At Jay-Z’s Record At O Music Awards

Band will attempt to break Hov’s record for most live concerts in 24 hours at the O Music Awards, set for June 27. By James Montgomery Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/Getty Images The O Music Awards are back once again. And this time, they’re taking the bus … all day long. Yes, on June 27, the digitally driven event will let someone else take the wheel as they play out aboard a tricked-out tour bus that will travel through the Mississippi Delta, the birthplace of rock and roll. The trek — from Memphis to New Orleans — will take place over 24 hours, making the O Music Awards the world’s first 24-hour awards-show live stream. Of course, that’s not the only first that’ll take place during the show. In keeping with tradition, the O Music Awards will also see another attempt at a Guinness World Record as the Flaming Lips ride along aboard the bus as the de facto house band and aim to break Jay-Z’s record for the most live concerts in 24 hours by playing gigs in eight different cities. “I don’t remember if I was asked or if I volunteered. … But I’ve accepted the job of not driving but commandeering the Magical Mystery Merry Prankster bus,” Lips frontman Wayne Coyne said. “I’ve accepted the attempt at breaking the world record of performing eight shows in 24 hours. And I’ve explained to the music freaks at MTV, VH1 and CMT that I am not a host. … But I always liked the way Jerry Lewis would get all sweaty toward the end of his yearly telethon. To play and sing Flaming Lips songs at eight in the morning, well … I’m open to new experiences.” You can watch Coyne go for greatness on June 27 when the O Music Awards stream live at OMusicAwards.com . That’s also where you can vote for your favorites — including Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Taylor Swift and, uh, MC Hammer — in O Music Award categories like Fan Army FTW, Must-Follow Artist on Twitter, and Too Much Ass for TV, given to the best NSFW video. The full list of nominees can be seen over on the O Music Awards official site . Additional performers and presenters for the June 27 show will be announced in the coming weeks.

50 Cent And DJ Drama Craft Street Music For Lost Tape

‘We actually centered this concept with an idea we created in 2007,’ Fif tells Mixtape Daily of latest in Gangsta Grillz series. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ade Mangum 50 Cent and DJ Drama’s Lost Tape Photo: G-Unit Main Pick Headliner : 50 Cent and DJ Drama Representing : Queens, New York Mixtape : The Lost Tape Real Spit : When it comes to hip-hop’s increasingly artist-centered mixtape culture, there are no bigger figures than 50 Cent and DJ Drama. On the artist side, Fif changed the way rappers approached the tape game with releases like 50 Cent Is the Future and No Mercy, No Fear, hijacking other rapper’s instrumentals and making them his own. On the DJ side, Drama created the pivotal Gangsta Grillz series, crafting unforgettable tapes for the likes of T.I., Young Jeezy and Fabolous. On Tuesday (May 22), the two mixtape giants united on Gangsta Grillz: The Lost Tape, and fans can download the release on DatPiff and Thisis50.com . “50 is mixtapes. When you think about the mixtape game, you have to credit this man right here,” DJ Drama told Mixtape Daily. “He makes what I consider quality street music. I almost feel like the tape didn’t happen in ’07 because it was meant to happen now.” 50 joked that he was bullied to do the tape by Drama, who represents Atlanta. “It was pressure, it was pressure; I was forced. The boys from the south got big on us. So they came down here to the north and said, ‘Look, man, you gotta roll with Rush,’ ” he said with a smirk. “I fully cooperated and now we got Gangsta Grillz.” Drama and Fif aren’t the only big names on The Lost Tape, though: Eminem makes a brief cameo on “Murder One.” “Ayo Fif, I was thinking, you should go back to doin’ the sh– you used to do,” Em says on an intro to the menacing track where the G-Unit general promises death to his enemies. “Silence, it’s the return of the tyrant/ See him through my third eye with both closed eyelids/ Stand closer to the homey you gonna die with/ Flames come up out the muzzle on the sh– that I spit,” 50 rhymes. In the early aughts, 50 built his reputation by remixing rap songs and adding his own high-powered verses to the familiar hits. He revisits the trend with “Riot” remix , a new take on 2 Chainz’s street banger. On “OJ,” 50 teams with Kidd Kidd, his new signee from New Orleans. The piano-laced track finds Fif and his prot

Laurieann Gibson Plots ‘Super Dope’ Music Career With ‘Last Chance’

Onetime Lady Gaga collaborator talks to MTV News about how she went from behind the scenes to center stage. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Laurieann Gibson Photo: Getty Images Laurieann Gibson has worked with artists like onetime muse Lady Gaga and current inspiration Nicki Minaj , helping the pop princesses craft stage spectacles and killer dance routines. But, having spent the last chapter of her career shaping the careers of other artists, the former Fly Girl feels now is the time for her to move from behind the shadows and kick-start her own music career. “When I began to choreograph and find my way pulling other artists’ dreams out and changing music in a visual way, there was still a part of me that had something more to say,” she told MTV News about working on her solo album. “There was still a desire to rock a stage and ultimately perform the eight count of my dream, but there was a lot of insecurity there.” It wasn’t until last year, however, that she found the strength to hit the studio for this album. And she channeled all of those feelings into her music, including her lead single, the dance-floor anthem “Last Chance.” “I put that into the album, into the lyrical content and I’m really proud of what is coming out of the studio,” she said. Gibson said she started working on the album after wrapping up her E! show “Born to Dance” and directing Gaga’s video for “Yo
