For country music fans, Faith Hill‘s performance of her new song “Come Home” was the highlight of the 2012 People’s Choice Awards Wednesday night on CBS. Granted, Taylor Swift won Favorite Country Artist, and deservedly so, but there’s no doubt Faith helped pave the way for such crossover stars like T-Swift. Last night, Hill returned to the national spotlight for just the third time in recent years, singing the song that she debuted at the CMA Awards in November. With the emotions of the song heavy on her face, Hill immersed herself in the ballad. “Come Home” is the lead single from her upcoming, untitled new album: Faith Hill – Come Home (Live at People’s Choice Awards)

Model, who just released ‘Fame’ single, says on ‘RapFix Live,’ ‘To be bullied through music … it’s not fair to me.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Amber Rose on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News Amber Rose is done with the drama! On Tuesday On Tuesday the stately model crossed over into artist mode when she released her new pop single “Fame” online, then she showed off some acting chops when she dropped the trailer for her upcoming film “Gang of Roses 2” just a few hours later. Unfortunately for Amber, her new endeavors aren’t the only things that have people talking. Her relationship with Kanye West still comes under much scrutiny even though the pair has been broken up for a number of years. On Wednesday’s (January 11) episode of “RapFix Live,” Rose took to the red couch to address all of the rumors regarding her and Kanye for the last time. Things got so emotional that she eventually broke into tears. “Today on your show, I just want to let it be known that I am so done with the Kanye questions,” she told Sway. “That’s my past, I’m done with it. “I’m done, I’m moving on with a new career. I’m in love with Wiz. I’m happy. I just want to move on with my life, and we can get everything out right now and then I’m done.” Amber is currently in a relationship with Wiz Khalifa , but her past romance with West still comes up in headlines. Whether it was on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy , where many of the songs seemed to be directed at Rose, or the Throne’s November Philadelphia concert where Yeezy thanked Amber’s native city for making her, the two former lovers are still constantly linked. Rose made it clear that she is happily in love with Wiz. “I’m so happy now that I actually have a gentleman, a great guy that I love so much,” she said of Khalifa . “Wiz knows that I never loved a man the way that I love him. He knows that, he’s very secure with that.” Still, after her very public breakup with West, there is lingering pain when Rose is mistreated by people in public. “I have people throwing things at me in the street because they’re fans of Kanye,” Amber said before she started to cry on set. “I’m just crying because I don’t deserve to be bullied like that. I’m a nice girl, I don’t bother anybody. I keep my mouth shut because I don’t want any trouble.” Putting all of the drama behind her was step one. Now, Amber looks to focus on her music career and acting career. She is currently working on her debut album and the film “Gang of Roses 2,” which will be released on February 14. “To be bullied through music and stuff like that, it’s not fair to me,” Rose continued while sobbing. “I don’t deserve that, and I’m sick of being bullied.” What do you think of Amber Rose’s tearful revelation? “I’ve done nothing wrong,” director Michel Hazanavicius told CNN when asked his reaction to Kim Novak’s recent comments lambasting The Artist for using the Vertigo love theme. “I used music from another movie, but it’s not illegal. We paid for that, we asked for that and we had the permission to do it. For me there is no real controversy…I feel sorry for her, but there’s a lot of movies with music from other movies, directors do that all the time and I’m not sure it’s a big deal.” [ CNN ]
Perry won’t attend People’s Choice Awards but tells fans, ‘I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!’ By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: C. Flanigan/ FilmMagic Just days after Katy Perry broke her silence for the first time since news of her split from husband Russell Brand, the singer has announced she’ll no longer be attending the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday in Los Angeles. “Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards,” she tweeted on Monday (January 9) about her previously scheduled appearance. “I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS.” The singer is up for seven awards at the show, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Pop Artist and Song of the Year for her Kanye West-assisted “E.T.” A week after Brand filed for divorce from his pop-star wife of 14 months, Perry used the social-networking site to thank her fans for sticking by her during this trying personal time — without directly confirming the split. “I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world,” she wrote. “You guys have made my heart happy again.” In another tweet, she addressed the tabloid chatter that has been swirling since news of the split hit the Web on December 30. “Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me,” she said, “Not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family.” Perry’s still scheduled to make two appearances on her California Dreams Tour later this month, one on January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another on January 22 in the Philippines, according to her website. With the PCA appearance canceled, Perry’s next awards-show appearance could take place February 12 at the Grammys, where she’s up for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Firework.” What do you think of Katy canceling her appearance at the awards show? This just in: Kim Novak, star of Alfred Hitchcock ‘s Vertigo , has a beef with Oscar front-runner The Artist and its use of Bernard Herrmann’s iconic love theme from the 1958 classic. Let’s just cut to the chase and let Novak’s words speak for themselves: “I want to report a rape… my body of work has been violated by The Artist .” Say what, Ms. Novak? Rape? Director Michel Hazanavicius might prefer the term “homage,” but potato, po-tah-to… perhaps some elaboration is in order. Novak’s personal missive, for which she composed a press release and took out a full-page trade ad, continues via Deadline : “This film took the Love Theme music from Vertigo and used the emotions it engenders as its own. Alfred Hitchcock and Jimmy Stewart can’t speak for themselves, but I can. It was our work that unconsciously or consciously evoked the memories and feelings to the audience that were used for the climax of The Artist .” “There was no reason for them to depend on Bernard Herrmann’s score from Vertigo to provide more drama. Vertigo ’s music was written during the filming. Hitchcock wanted the theme woven musically in the puzzle pieces of the storyline. Even though they did given Bernard Herrmann a small credit at the end, I believe this kind of filmmaking trick to be cheating. Shame on them!” “It is morally wrong of people in our industry to use and abuse famous pieces of work to gain attention and applause for other than what the original work was intended. It is essential that all artists safeguard our special bodies of work for posterity, with their individual identities intact and protected.” Novak has a point, to a point: Using a well-known piece from a beloved classic can, consciously or subconsciously, evoke the emotion earned by that reference film. But does that mean The Artist cheated by borrowing on the emotional associations its audience had for Vertigo ? And, as personally as that citation hit Novak, is it fair to reduce the cinematic equivalent of sampling in hip-hop to such a gross violation? And if Bing Crosby was still around, would he make the same claim for the use of “Pennies from Heaven?” Chime in, Movieliners. • Not Everyone Loves ‘The Artist’: Kim Novak Feels Violated By Use Of ‘Vertigo’ Score [Deadline]
Producer Noah ’40’ Shebib tells MTV News in an exclusive interview that while working with the MC, ‘We get to do what we want.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Steven Roberts Drake Photo: Getty Images One look at the production credits on Drake ‘s 2010 debut, Thank Me Later, serves as a reminder to just how hot the Toronto MC was out of the gate. Guests like Jay-Z, T.I. and Alicia Keys lent their voices, while multiplatinum producers like Kanye West, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland offered their sonic expertise. The music world was truly Drake’s oyster, but on his sophomore set, Take Care, Drizzy scaled things back in order to make a bigger impact. Instead of pooling together his resources and using his hitmaking influence, Drake went back to basics, choosing to record the entire album in Toronto with friend and engineer/producer Noah “40” Shebib , the studio wiz who helped Drake cook up his 2009 breakout tape, So Far Gone . “I can’t sit there and tell you that anybody made any conscious decisions to the extent of, ‘Oh, we’re gonna make this feel of an album,’ ” 40 told MTV News in December from Take Care studios in Toronto. “We really just make records and cut music until someone says, ‘That’s it: You can’t make any more music; you gotta stop.’ ” The result was a cohesive and emotional 18-track ride, with two bonus tracks for iTunes. The MC revealed to MTV News that the narrative that drives his latest LP was inspired by “Houstatlantavegas,” a So Far Gone track produced by 40. “I really didn’t start working with Drake production-wise until So Far Gone ,” Shebib said. “As far as Drake and music and the people around him, he really controls that, and he picks all those records, and my goal is to facilitate that.” And facilitate he did. 40 either produced or co-produced 15 of the 20 total Take Care tracks. One song in particular, the Lil Wayne- and Andre 3000-assisted “The Real Her,” started with a reverse piano loop that the beatsmith had given to Drake a year before they began working on the album. It might have seemed insignificant at the time, but Drake eventually came back with a song idea off of that one sample. “What ends up happening a lot of times with our records is that, because I can do a lot of things in the studio, whether it be play instruments or produce or edit or run Pro Tools or edit vocals, whatever the case may be, I help him get out his ideas,” 40 said. “I think that’s the goal of any good producer, is to make sure the artist is delivering what they want.” With Cash Money/ Young Money’s track record of success, Drake’s label trusted in the rapper and producer’s abilities, allowing them to create without looking over their shoulder. Safe to say, it all paid off when Take Care debuted at #1 on the Billboard albums chart, pushing over 631,000 copies in its first week after it was released November 15. The album is now well-past platinum, on its way to 2 million records sold in just under three months. “We get to do what we want: We don’t have to clear it with the A&Rs or anybody. We are our own A&Rs,” Shebib explained. “And that’s the greatest freedom you can possibly have in this business.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Drake Related Photos ’40’ Making ‘Take Care’
