Eminem Is Not To Be Messed With, Game Says

‘He’ll end your career,’ Game says of Em on ‘RapFix Live,’ following the release of his dis track ‘Uncle Otis.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Game Photo: MTV News The Game made headlines last month when he dropped “Uncle Otis,” a lyrical call-out session on which the Cali rapper poked fun at everyone from Jay-Z to Big Sean to Kreayshawn and 50 Cent . When it comes to hip-hop disses, Game isn’t gun-shy, but there is one MC he would never throw shots at. “One thing that stuck with me is that Eminem is not to be f—ed with ever in hip-hop, ever,” he told Sway on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” Though the pair once collaborated on “We Ain’t,” a track off of Game’s 2005 debut The Documentary, the Compton rapper’s famous feud with Eminem cohort 50 Cent has affected his and Slim Shady’s relationship. Though Game and Marshall no longer speak, Game holds a great amount of respect for the Detroit wordsmith. “If you notice out of everybody I take a shot at, that’s the only person that’s untouched. He’s in a bubble and you don’t even say nothing to Eminem. To anybody that ever does, God bless you,” Game said. “He’ll end your career.” Game, who is signed to Dr. Dre ‘s Aftermath records, got his start in 50’s G-Unit group, appearing on their mixtapes and collaborating with Fif himself. In 2005, a rift grew between the Game and 50 , and subsequent shots were fired as the two rappers’ camps butted heads outside of New York City’s Hot 97 radio station. The two tried to patch things up during a press conference in New York City a few months later, but the truce didn’t last. Game even told MTV News that Michael Jackson once tried to bring the two warring rappers together, but things didn’t pan out. The feud between Game and 50 affected both of their relationships with Dr. Dre, who has overseen both careers, and affected Game’s relationship with Eminem. “It just had to happen, man, and I was put into a situation where I had to defend myself lyrically and I did,” Game said of the many dis records he threw G-Unit’s way. “It wasn’t personal to anybody; I told that to Dre, I’ve told that to Paul Rosenberg, who manages Em, and the only the person I hadn’t spoke to about it was Em and 50.” “Sometimes stuff happens and I wish it had longevity,” he said of the Dre/50/Eminem relationship. “But it didn’t, so no regrets on my behalf.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Game, Diddy And Machine Gun Kelly Related Artists The Game Eminem Dr. Dre

Diddy Wants Machine Gun Kelly To Stay ‘True To Himself’

‘This kid, I think he’s a star,’ Diddy tells Sway on MTV News’ ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Diddy and Machine Gun Kelly Photo: MTV News Diddy ‘s ear for talent is unquestionable. After playing an instrumental role in the careers of Jodeci and Mary J. Blige , the Bad Boy founder went on to discover the Notorious B.I.G. , Mase, 112 and Faith Evans. His newest signee may not fit the Bad Boy mold, but Diddy is excited nonetheless — so excited that he Skyped into “RapFix Live” while on vacation in Spain to chat it up with Sway about his newest artist, Machine Gun Kelly . “Yes, I signed MGK,” Diddy confirmed. “This kid, I think he’s a star. He’s one of the best live performers I’ve ever seen to come out in a minute.” Influenced by DMX , Cleveland, Ohio’s Machine Gun Kelly began battle-rapping around 2004 while he was still in high school. His passion grew from the corner ciphers to the studio, where he would lay tracks for his 2006 mixtape, Stamp of Approval. Back then, the MC (who got the Machine Gun part of his moniker because of his rapid-fire raps) was just getting his feet wet. In 2010, MGK would drop two tapes, 100 Words and Runnin’ and his breakthrough Lace Up. From there, the energetic spitter would develop his following thanks to his spirited live performance. The hip-hop mogul marveled at the existing fanbase Kelly had before even signing the deal. “He has just such a movement, just hundreds and thousands of loyal fans that came from the place he came from in different parts of the country,” Diddy gushed. “He wasn’t always the coolest kid in school, and just the process of growing up and the problems that they all encounter, they relate to him in such a way.” On the surface, MGK may not fit what many would perceive as the Bad Boy mold. He is a white, skinny, tatted-up kid from Cleveland who is influenced by punk music just as much as he is influenced by rap. For Combs, it’s a non-issue. “One of the things as an executive and someone that runs a record company is that I change so much as far as my respect for artists whether they succeed or fail. I think it’s important to empower the artist,” he said. “He will not be changing for Bad Boy; he will not have a typical Bad Boy swag. He’s not going to be popping champagne or driving around in Bentleys. He’s gonna be him and true to himself. He has a lot of creative control in his project.” Kelly, who recently graduated from sleeping on a futon to a mattress in his manager’s mother’s house, agrees. He assured his fans that he won’t be changing his lifestyle very much. “We’re kind of all about that ‘I don’t like to look better than my fans,’ so maybe one day I’ll change, but I pray to God I just stay the same,” he said. “We had a bidding war before he came in, but Puff is Puff,” MGK said. “Honestly, I really want to treasure this almost-famous stage as much as we can, while we still can. It’s crazy, because Ohio is one thing; we have this great hometown love. We’ll do 4,000 in one show, but then we just did Texas and it was probably 60 to 100 people, still doin’ holes in the wall, and it’s so cool.” He won’t be doing those venues much longer. MGK confirmed that he signed a two-album deal with Bad Boy and will be dropping his debut album, also called Lace Up, in the first quarter of 2012. “No push-backs with us, baby,” he bragged. “Not happening. The fans are not allowing that to go down.” Have you checked out Machine Gun Kelly’s music? Share your thoughts in the comments! Wiz Khalifa Felt ‘It Was Time’ For Big Sean, Curren$y Collabos

‘We’ll see what comes of it,’ Wiz tells MTV News about rumors of a joint mixtape. By Steven Roberts Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Getting a gold plaque is a big deal these days. The music industry has changed drastically in the past 10 years, and rappers are more likely to rack up download sales for singles than for entire albums. So when Wiz Khalifa learned that his debut, Rolling Papers, had gone gold, selling more than 500,000 copies, he was ecstatic. “The album going gold, that’s crazy, just because these days, I know how much doesn’t sell and I know how hard it is to get to that point,” Wiz told MTV News on the set of his upcoming “No Sleep” video. “It’s a big deal for me, and with ‘Black and Yellow’ being triple-platinum, ‘Roll Up’ being platinum, it’s just all going towards what I said before: my fanbase and my underground love transitioning into sales and numbers, which people really respect in the end.” Wiz has had a very successful year and a half. In addition to the new plaques adorning the walls of his bakery, Wiz is one of the front-runners for the Best New Artist award at the 2011 VMAs . And in spite of the success the Taylor Gang general has been enjoying, he’s still not above giving back to his fans. He recently released five new tracks via his Twitter, featuring partner in crime Curren$y , his Rolling Papers tourmate Big Sean and Wiz himself. The Pittsburgh MC’s team at ID Labs produced all of the tracks (“O.T.T.R,” “Weed Brownies,” “Dot Dot Dot” and “Flowers” are produced by Big Jerm; the fifth track, “Proceed,” was produced by Cardo). The new releases only increased speculation that a joint mixtape — maybe even an album — with all three MCs might be in the works. But Wiz said he wasn’t sure what exactly would come of the material because they recorded them just for fun. “It’s always fun to be in the position where we could make music that sells to people, videos that people enjoy, and still just drop free music that we feel like is just good stuff,” Wiz said. “And at the end of the day, we weren’t hearing anything like what we make and I felt like it was time for that. Me and Spitta, we talk all of the time, and it was just a thing where he called me and he was like, ‘Yo, we need to do something,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, we should do something. We should do this,’ and he was like, ‘Perfect.’ ” Wiz said he thought Sean would be a perfect fit, adding something new to what he and Curren$y have previously done. “We’ve done that before, so if we did it again, we would just be doing it over,” Wiz said of his and Curren$y’s collabos. “We wanted to do something new, add that new element, and it ended up being real fun. It’s definitely not How Fly 2, but we’ll see what comes of it.” What do you think of Wiz’s latest tracks with Curren$y and Big Sean? Share your reviews in the comments! Amy Winehouse ‘Had A Huge Heart,’ Producer Salaam Remi Says

Remi opens up about working with Winehouse on third album, which is not complete. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kim Kane Amy Winehouse Photo: Roger Kisby/ Getty Images Salaam Remi was already an established producer before he met a then-unknown singer named Amy Winehouse, having already created hits for the likes of Nas, the Fugees and Ini Kamoze (to name just a few). But from the minute he was introduced to Winehouse in 2002, his life — and career — were forever changed. Because not only did he produce the lion’s share of her recorded work (her 2003 debut Frank and the follow up, 2006’s iconic Back to Black ) but he became a close friend with the mercurial Winehouse too, a confidant who knew her better than most. So when Winehouse died on Saturday in her London home, it was somewhat fitting that Remi was nearby: in town to attend the wedding of the singer’s former manager. In fact, he had planned on stopping by Winehouse’s apartment that day to catch up and discuss the ongoing sessions for her Back to Black follow-up , which the two had been working on. MTV celebrates Amy Winehouse’s music with a special show tonight. Days after Winehouse’s death Remi spoke via telephone with New York’s Power 105.1 DJ Kim Kane about the loss of his dear friend and the status of her new album. Kane was kind enough to share their conversation with MTV News. “We were working on it; it’s not a complete album,” Remi said, debunking reports that her third LP was finished and slated for release. “We had a lot of things going, there are recordings, but first things first, I think. We’re trying to focus on what’s at hand and what her family wants to do. So those reports [that there is finished material] are false.” Read more about Amy Winehouse’s influence on music beyond “Rehab.” Remi also told Kane that despite near-constant speculation about Winehouse’s health, he believed that she was well enough to complete her new album and was actually using the ongoing recording sessions as a sort of therapy, channeling her emotions and frustrations into her songs. “To put it all in a nutshell, Amy loved to sing, to write … that ability never left her,” he said. “She was very good at channeling her emotions into lyrics, and then being able to sing them. She was in a place to go forward and make it happen. … The way that Amy and I always created was, she would write and we would toss ideas around.” And though details surrounding Winehouse’s death remain murky, Remi said that he’s trying very hard to block out the near-constant media coverage of her passing and focus instead on the private moments the two shared in the studio. Those moments revealed the artist few ever knew: opinionated, funny and, above all else, caring. “Amy had strong opinions on everything. …. She was very opinionated about what she liked. At the end, she was a real person,” he said. “She had a huge heart. We’d be working for hours and she would have everybody in the room snickering. She always had a joke. You could hear a lot of that in her lyrics, she could be sarcastic and she was extremely witty … but more than anything else she was a real person, an individual artist.” Celebrate Amy Winehouse

Britney Spears Adds DJ Pauly D To Femme Fatale Tour

‘Britney is one of my favorite performers and certainly one of this generation’s most influential artists,’ ‘Jersey Shore’ star says. By Jocelyn Vena “Jersey Shore” star DJ Pauly D Photo: Tom Briglia/ FilmMagic A while back, there was a rumor that “Jersey Shore” star DJ Pauly D would be an opening act on Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour . That rumor can now be confirmed as true. Pauly D will open for the singer on six of her August tour dates. He’s set to hit the road with Spears on August 17 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before his jaunt with her wraps on August 25 in Charlotte, South Carolina. “I am so excited to be performing on the Britney Spears Femme Fatale tour,” he said in a statement. “Britney is one of my favorite performers and certainly one of this generation’s most influential artists. It’s an amazing platform to connect with my fans around the country.” Spears currently has several artists opening for her, including Jessie and the Toy Boys, Nervo and Nicki Minaj. Pauly D served as Spears’ warm-up act at her gig in Las Vegas in March, where he spoke to MTV News about her influence on pop music . “What it means to DJ a concert like a Britney Spears concert or something like that, it’s an association with monsters like Britney Spears and it just legitimizes your career,” he explained at the Palms Hotel and Casino, where Spears electrified the stage just days before she dropped her album. “And it’s just fun being onstage with Britney Spears performing like she’s performing. I love it. I couldn’t ask for more.” And if fans are expecting Pauly to DJ some of the singer’s greatest hits, they’d better think again. “A DJ should not play the artist’s songs at her concert ’cause she has to perform these songs,” he said. “I’m not going to be playing any Britney before she performs; maybe after. I’ll let her perform, let her shine ’cause it’s her night.” DJ Pauly D will join Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour on the following dates:

Tyler, The Creator Thinks His VMA Rivals ‘Suck’

‘If I lose to any of those wackass videos, I’m gonna be mad because they all suck — except for Adele’s,’ Tyler tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Tyler The Creator Photo: MTV News Tyler, the Creator bites his tongue for no one. Some call him evil, others, unbelievable. So when asked about his feelings on his 2011 MTV VMA Video of the Year nomination, Tyler simply spoke his mind. “I’m really excited, shout out to Ron Artest. If I lose to any of those wackass videos, I’m gonna be mad because they all suck — except for Adele ‘s,” he told MTV News. The Odd Future standout’s self-directed “Yonkers” video is up against Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” Beastie Boys’ “Make Some Noise,” Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” and Katy Perry ‘s “Firework.” The “Yonkers” clip, which was uploaded to the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’s YouTube page back in February, has since racked up 15 million views. Most noted for the scene in which the rapper hangs himself in the end, the “Yonkers” video has become one of the most talked about and debated works of the year. It earned Tyler a Best New Artist nom as well. While the Cali rapper/producer/director is more respectful of his fellow Best New Artist nominees, he still wants to win that one too. Up against indie poppers Foster the People (“Pumped Up Kicks”), Big Sean (“My Last”), Kreayshawn (“Gucci Gucci”) and Wiz Khalifa (“Black and Yellow”), Tyler will let his guard down just a bit in this category. “The Best New Artist thing, that’s cool. Wiz is a really good dude and I’ve been a fan of his music, so if he wins I’ll be pretty excited. I wanna win that for sure, but Wiz is awesome, I’ve been listening to him since ’08,” he said. “Even Kreayshawn, she’s cool. So if she wins that too, I’ll be pretty stoked. But you know, I wanna win, I’m just gonna keep it 100.” Snagging a VMA has been a goal of the “Sandwitches” MC for months. He has been tweeting feverishly about it, but even he was surprised when he actually heard the nominations announcement. After the group manager called the entire OFWGKTA to a meeting, Tyler grew weary. “We were like, ‘What the f— does he have us here for?’ We were ready to leave. Then the VMA nomination thing came on and I was on my phone and I was like, ‘Oh crap I want to see what wack videos they have this time,’ ” Tyler recalled of his skepticism before being hit with the news. “Then they said my name and was talkin’ about it and I was like ‘What the hell?’ I kinda stopped breathing, I was just sitting there. I was kinda shaking. I don’t know, it was surreal.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
