Taylor Swift Calls Her Next Album ‘Very Different’

Country superstar tells MTV News that 2012 project has ‘a theme.’ By Christina Garibaldi Taylor Swift Photo: Getty Images This year proved to be another amazing one for Taylor Swift . She just wrapped up the U.S. leg of her Speak Now Tour , released her new Wonderstruck perfume and unveiled her video for “Ours.” But now, Swift has her sights set on an even bigger 2012. Swift is gearing up to release her fourth album , and in an October interview, she revealed that her new songs were not about “moving on.” So when MTV News caught up with the country star at the Billboard Women in Music event , we had to ask which emotions were triggering such a personal album. “I can’t tell you, because it’s a secret,” Swift teased. “It will be unveiled when it all comes out, because they all seem to have a theme to them, the records that we’ve put out so far, and this one is no different. It’s very different in what it’s about, but it’s no different in the fact that it has its own name.” Swift was on hand at the event with another honoree, Nicki Minaj, who is also set to release her new album in 2012, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. “I love her,” Swift said of Minaj. “One of my favorite moments of the tour was when she came out at the Staples Center and sang ‘Super Bass’ with me, which was, like, the coolest thing. It was like a dream come true, so it’s amazing to get to run into her and see her around, and I’m just such a fan.” So would Swift possibly collaborate with Minaj on her next album? “I mean, we’re not working on anything right now,” Swift said. “But I would love to at some point. That would be amazing.” Are you excited for Swift’s new album? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Taylor Swift

Lady Gaga Reveals Favorite ‘Marry The Night’ Scenes

‘The entire story’s true, and it’s through the lens of how I choose to repaint my past,’ she tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Lady Gaga performing “Marry the Night” at the 102.7 KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball Photo: Joe Scarnici/ WireImage Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night” video debuted last week to all the pomp and circumstance you’d expect from the Mother Monster. After several teases, the nearly 14-minute-long video was an insider’s look at the struggles Gaga went through before she hit it big. Based on her experience of being dropped by Island/Def Jam before getting picked up by Interscope Records, the pop superstar uses some creative license in the clip to share with fans the life-changing experience. “This was one of the first times that the fashion didn’t propel so much of the story line,” she told MTV News at Los Angeles’ Jingle Ball concert of the self-directed video. “It is autobiographical, so the entire story’s true, and it’s through the lens of how I choose to repaint my past.” While many of the Grammy nominee’s past videos have been focused on the visuals — especially what she’s wearing — Gaga said “Marry the Night” was a whole different monster. “Even though the fashion’s important, for the first time, it didn’t dictate every single moment,” she said. “The aesthetic was more driven by the emotion of the song and the feeling of New York City. It was more cinema, art-house inspired.” While there’s many memorable scenes and looks in the video (including a mental breakdown in which she smashes Cheerios on her naked body, some “Fame”-inspired dance routines in spandex and, of course, a mental-hospital scene that features a very stylish hospital gown), Gaga explained what she loves the most in the video. “I do really love the ballet sequence,” she said. “The Noritake shoes with the latex ballet outfit, the sort-of broken ballet moment I thought was really beautiful.” While her BeDazzler never makes a cameo in the video, a reference to it and an outfit that is blinged out with sequins remains an equally unforgettable scene. As Gaga is trying to reinvent herself after she is told to give up on ballet, she heads to dance rehearsals wearing her Madonna “Who’s That Girl” finest (denim completely covered in sequins) on her way to pop superstardom. Gaga used to BeDazzle her clothes pre-fame, but now, more famous people BeDazzle for her. “I used to use glue as well, just straight Gem-Tac glue with rhinestones,” she said. “But, for example, that outfit was a costume made my Versace. But back in the day, I had just wreaked some havoc on old denim.” What do you think of Gaga’s “Marry the Night” fashion? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Lady Gaga

T.I. Calls Taylor Swift Duet ‘Phenomenal Opportunity’

‘I was pleasantly surprised and confused,’ Tip tells MTV News of invitation from Swift days after his prison release. By Nadeska Alexis T.I. Photo: MTV News Just a few days after completing an 11-month prison sentence in September, T.I. received a phone call directly from Taylor Swift , requesting that he join her on the Atlanta stop of her Speak Now Tour . Tip graciously accepted Swift’s offer to duet on his single “Live Your Life,” and the October performance — T.I.’s first post-release — made plenty of headlines. While promoting his new VH1 reality series, “T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle,” which premieres Monday night (December 5) at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the Atlanta MC told MTV News that he was just as shocked as his fans were about the collabo. “I was pleasantly surprised and confused,” T.I. said of receiving the phone call from Swift. “I was confused because I know it’s a phenomenal opportunity, but being T.I. — the Rubberband Man — and Taylor Swift being America’s Sweetheart, I had just gotten out of prison like two days [earlier] and all of a sudden my phone rings.” Tip says that on episode three of “The Family Hustle,” fans will see how the show came together, but he gave us a brief summary of his experience. “There were significant differences in a Taylor Swift show from a T.I. show,” he said, clearly amused at the thought. “You could take the biggest of the biggest hip-hop artists — even a Kanye West or Jay-Z show — and their concerts or tours, they gon’ be just a world away from a [Taylor Swift] show.” According to T.I., the most notable difference was having a drama-free experience. “Everything is so calm and cool and arranged and on time, and everything is so neat and people are quiet and polite,” T.I. said of the concert, still in disbelief. “Everything just flows smoothly, not a hitch, not a wrinkle, not a hiccup. Whereas hip-hop shows, no matter how big the production, no matter how elaborate it is, it’s always friction and ups and downs. With her, everything was smooth; nobody raised their voice.” When MTV News caught up with Taylor back in October, the pop star told her side of the story, explaining that she was just grateful T.I. had even fielded her request. “Well, I called T.I. the night before the show, so I felt like it’s such short notice that [he wouldn’t do it with me], and he’s just like, ‘Hey, yeah, sure,’ ” she recalled. “And it was just amazing. I was so excited ’cause I’m such a fan and I thought, ‘This is such short notice, this is so ridiculous that I’m asking him to do this the night before.’ And he’s like, ‘I’ll be there.’ And he showed up for soundcheck and we were all just so starstruck.” “T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle” premieres tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT on VH1. Noreaga Wants Jay-Z and Dame Dash To Reconcile For Christmas

See the article here:

Just minutes after wishing Jay-Z a Happy Birthday via Twitter, one-time Roc-A-Fella Records associate Noreaga publicly wished that Hov and his former partner Dame Dash would reconcile. Get The Inside Scoop On Harlem! “For Christmas I ask Santa if Hov and Dame could talk,” Nore wrote on his Twitter page .  “Maybe make Irv president of something and to free Boosie n  Ja Rule. I hope I get it. Please.” Jay-Z and Dame co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records in 1995  along with partner Kareem “Biggs ” Burke. After years of success building a label, clothing line and various other ventures, the team had a very public falling out, selling their stakes in Roc-A-Fella to Def Jam. After releasing the classic album  The War Repor t with is partner Capone in 1995 on Penalty Records,  Nore was signed to Def Jam Records as a solo artist. His debut album N.O.R.E contained the Neptunes-produced hit “Superthug.” In 2006 he released a Reggaeton album on Roc-La-Familia called N.O.R.E. y la Familia…Ya Tú Sabe executive produced by Jay-Z.  Nore also appeared in several of the Roc-A-Fella movies including State Property , State Property 2 and Death of A Dynasty . Possibly inspired by the holiday season and Jay-Z’s birthday, Nore offered many personal observations about the team and was very passionate in his defense of Damon Dash and The Inc’s Irv Gotti. “I think Dame was one of the best black ceo’s of our generation.  I think Irv Gotti was one of the best executives minus they attitudes at one point,” he wrote. “Dame came to my studio so much cause he heard I always had his artists booking sessions and he just wanted to be around energ y. Everybody who say they hate Dame, if he got back wit Hov u would love him again!!! Every bit of footage u saw of Dame yelling he made sense… It’s just [his] tactics was wrong. PAY ATTENTION. The bad cop good cop thing was something they invented. Dame [just] kept playing that character too long.” Nore went on to highlight that Diddy’s Ciroc deal may not have happened had it not been for Jay-Z and Dame’s Armadale Vodka venture.  Also citing a lack of Black leadership at record labels Nore felt that two should at least speak, even if they don’t become best friends again. “I got love for Hov & Dame,”  he added. “I’m not taking sides nor am I saying who’s right or wrong I’m just saying I miss Roc-A-fella, miss the unity. I just always get sad when I see them by they self.  I’m not saying bring Roc-A-Fella back but Dame should be able to call Hov and say happy Bday.” READ NORE’s FULL THOUGHTS ON HIS TWITTER PAGE @Noreaga. Exclusive: Lady Gaga ‘So Blessed’ By Grammy Nods

‘Four years ago, I was dancing on the bar, so [I’m] pretty happy,’ she tells MTV News of her three nods. By Matt Elias Lady Gaga Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — Lady Gaga marked her third performance at L.A.’s Nokia Theatre — just three days after taking on both opening and closing set duties at the “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!” — as she headlined KIIS-FM’s 2011 Jingle Ball on Saturday night. It was at the Grammy concert earlier in the week that she picked up three nominations: Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year (her third nod in that category). Notice a trend going on here? MTV News caught up with Mother Monster exclusively backstage at Jingle Ball about what this trifecta of Grammy nods means to her. “I was just so happy and I feel so blessed,” Gaga told us. “And, you know, to be nominated for my album three years in a row for the body of work means more than anything because I’m a songwriter. And to be appreciated as a songwriter and be able to call up my buddies who helped me write this album [ Born This Way ] and helped me produce this record, and sort of all have our first moment together, it meant a lot to me and it still does. I’m very happy.” But the “Marry the Night” singer , who was flawlessly decked out in her best Audrey Hepburn ensemble on Saturday, had a hard time deciding which nom meant the most to her. “Well, Album of the Year and Pop [Vocal] Album … both mean a lot to me,” LG said. “I mean, they all three do. I’m 25! Four years ago, I was dancing on the bar, so [I’m] pretty happy to be here.” And there were thousands of fans inside the Nokia Theatre who were happy to have Gaga there too. Being a holiday show and all, Gaga got in the gifting spirit early by giving the crowd a slight glimpse of what her upcoming 2012 tour might look like. “It’s going to have the feeling of it in some ways,” Gaga said. “It’s hard to explain, it’s very different aesthetics. But the vision of the show tonight is sort of a continuation of this junkyard motorcycle gang mixed with a dark Christmas. So it’s going to be a great show and I’m excited. We worked really hard on it and I can’t wait to see all of the fans tonight.” One thing lacking onstage was Gaga’s “Olympic-sized moon” that she joked was just too large to bring out. Little Monsters will just have to wait for her full arena tour next year to see it in all its glory. Supporting Gaga on the bill at this year’s Jingle Ball show were David Guetta, Gym Class Heroes, Flo Rida, Taio Cruz, Sean Paul, Big Time Rush and Karmin. Kanye Talks ‘Pursuit Of Awesomeness’ In Backstage Video

‘I wasn’t given this power for no reason,’ rapper says in behind-the-scenes video filmed on Watch the Throne Tour. By Rob Markman Kanye West Photo: Getty Images No one knew what to expect back in October when online entertainment company VoyR announced that it would be partnering with Jay-Z and Kanye West ‘s Watch the Throne Tour to give “access to exclusive, inspirational and shareable stories” with live webcasts. Would fans get sneak peeks backstage? Would part of the concert be streamed in real time? How much of Jay and ‘Ye would we actually see? There were quite a few questions. Now, almost two months later, VoyR drops its first behind-the-scenes video. Kanye narrates the clip, which was recorded at one of the Throne’s November shows at Madison Square Garden in New York. “I always joked that I was like — OK, I’m doing music, but there is a bigger plan for me at a certain point. I wasn’t given this power for no reason and now it’s starting to open up,” ‘Ye says at the start. Yeezy continues to wax poetic about his mission in life, concluding that his goal is to inspire future world leaders who will go on to pay homage at the rapper’s funeral when he dies. All the while, West’s voice-over is coupled with concert footage of him emerging onto the MSG stage atop a four-sided video cube. “I’m on a pursuit of awesomeness,” West continues. “Excellence is the bare minimum.” VoyR charges a fee that grants fans access to a number of different episodes, but in this first video we see the Chi-Town MC backstage getting dressed for the night’s show. While wearing a black shirt, with the same Givenchy designs that appear in the Watch the Throne album insert, Kanye straps a chunky gold bracelet to his wrist, adjusts his in-ear monitor and laces up his Air Yeezy sneakers as he gets ready to hit the stage. The video mostly focuses on the “All of the Lights” MC, and we hardly see Jay at all. Instead we see Kanye marching through the concert halls, greeting visitors like famed Roc-A-Fella engineer Young Guru and Wu-Tang Clansman Raekwon. Hov does show up in one scene, marveling over one young fan’s haircut. The preteen, who made his way backstage, has a WTT logo shaved into his head. He is all smiles as Jay talks to him with Kanye, Bronx, New York, rapper French Montana and Hot 97’s Angie Martinez looking on. “Oh, you outta here, told you,” Jay says, laughing. Kanye continues to narrate, talking about his legacy. “I wanna know when I’m gone that they’ll be 10 people that will go up and grab that mic,” he said about the impression he hopes to leave. “I wanna know that there are warriors now.” Related Photos Exclusive Photos Of The ‘Watch The Throne’ Recording Sessions Jay-Z And Kanye West ‘Watch The Throne’ Listening Related Artists Kanye West Jay-Z

Young Jeezy On Gucci Mane Rift: ‘It Was Nothing’

Jeezy tells ‘RapFix Live’ the whole thing started because he couldn’t perform with Gucc while recovering from throat surgery. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Young Jeezy Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News It was all just a misunderstanding. After Young Jeezy appeared on Gucci Mane ‘s 2005 track “Icy” but later refused to perform the record with Gucc, things between the two rappers got tense. When the Snowman appeared on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live,” he revealed that what Gucci Mane didn’t know was it was Jeezy’s secret throat surgery that kept him from performing the record. “When I met homey, he was just a guy hanging at the studio and he was fan. And I took to him and ’cause I just liked the way he got down, he was always cool, he was always excited,” Jeezy said of how he and Gucci first met. Jeezy — who was the hottest street rapper at the time — agreed to do “Icy” with Gucci Mane and even helped put the record together, he said. But soon after, he lost his voice, so when a request to perform the song came through to Jeezy’s people, he declined without giving a reason. “Around that time is when I lost my voice,” Jeezy revealed to Sway. “But nobody knew that I lost my voice but, like, maybe four of my homeboys. Def Jam didn’t know, nobody knew. “I think they got offended, but he didn’t know that I lost my voice and just had surgery and was laying on a deathbed not knowing whether or not I would be able to speak again.” It is important to note that the two MCs have since called a truce . But before they made a peaceful resolution, Jeezy and Gucci traded subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle barbs on record. The drama even spilled onto the streets . “It just started then and turned into something else,” Jeezy said. “I just felt like he was getting disrespectful about the situation because he wasn’t being a businessman about it and understanding.” Jeezy, who is set to drop his fourth album, TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition, on December 20, told Sway that he believed the media made it out to be more than it was. “It’s over now. But for what it’s worth, it was nothing,” he said. In August, Gucci Mane had a similar stance when he sat with Sway on “RapFix Live.” “On the strength of [the fact that] anything could have happened between not just me and him [but] between our camps, we just came to a sit-down of just respecting the fact that somebody can get hurt, and it ain’t going to be us,” Gucci said of the truce. “That’s what made us do that.” Don’t expect a future collaboration between the former foes, however. “I think we should just stay away from that totally,” Jeezy said. Are you glad Jeezy and Gucci settled things? Let us know in the comments. Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Young Jeezy And Big K.R.I.T. Related Artists Young Jeezy Gucci Mane

Nicki Minaj Calls ‘Roman In Moscow’ A ‘Teaser’

‘It’s the wackest thing on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, ‘ Nicki tells MTV News of sassy new single. By Christina Garibaldi Nicki Minaj at the Billboard Women in Music event on Friday Photo: D. Dipasupil/FilmMagic NEW YORK — All the Barbies get ready, Roman is back! Nicki Minaj released “Roman in Moscow” on Friday (December 2), the first track off her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. On the brand-new, hard-hitting single, Minaj’s foul-mouthed alter ego Roman Zolanski spits out insults in his rapid-fire flow. It seems safe to say that Roman is fully recharged, and perhaps even taking shots at Nicki’s rival Lil’ Kim . “I told you, bitch, last year / I’m a rap-bitch nightmare / That’s why I call you Buzz Lightyear,” Roman says. ” ‘Cause by the time you start buzzin’, bitch, you gonna have white hair!” MTV News caught up with Minaj at the Billboard Women in Music event on Friday afternoon and she talked to us about the track. ” ‘Roman in Moscow is like a teaser to Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, which will drop on Valentine’s Day,” Minaj said. “When I say it’s a teaser, it’s like a trailer to the movie, it’s like setting the stage and I just wanted to touch the surface. It’s the wackest thing on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. ” On the song, Roman is fired up and wreaking havoc all over Moscow. “Well, he was there [in Moscow] secretly because [alter ego] Martha wanted him to go there, so they put him in this thing with monks and nuns; they were trying to rehabilitate him,” Minaj explained. “But I can’t tell exactly what happened, you’ll just see it in the video format, but let’s just say he got out of there.” Minaj added that the video for “Roman in Moscow” “will be shot real soon.” The MC is also celebrating her four 2012 Grammy nominations, including one for Best New Artist . Taylor Swift Cozies Up To Zach Gilford In ‘Ours’ Video

Taylor’s adorable new kitten Meredith also makes a cameo in just-released Speak Now clip. By Kara Warner Taylor Swift on the set of “Ours” Photo: Big Machine via Instagram That Taylor Swift sure does know how to work the “awww!” effect into her music, and even more so in her sweet and wholesome music videos, with their varying themes on love: whether it be lost, won or rekindled. Her latest clip is for the country-tinged ballad “Ours,” a bonus track from last year’s Speak Now, which debuted Friday evening (December 2) on E! Once again, Swift serves up nearly four minutes of sweetness. The video opens up on a generic office building, in all its beige-toned, boring glory, full of disgruntled employees. Enter a dressed-down Swift wearing very little makeup, slightly frizzy hair and a bland suit and skirt with office-worker-lady-standard sneakers. Throughout her workday, Swift gets jostled around in the elevator, harassed at her desk and defeated by a typically defiant copy machine and passes the time reminiscing about what we assume to be a lost love (played by “Friday Night Lights” cutie Zach Gilford), whom we see in cute flashback videos she plays on her work computer (which features a blink-and-you-miss-it wallpaper picture of Swift’s adorable new kitten, Meredith), then later via her iPad when she’s on the bus. The videos show Swift and Gilford playing in the leaves, snuggling together, Gilford playing with Meredith the scene-stealing kitten, playful wrestling on the couch, etc. As Swift’s workday winds down, she seems to get more smiley and excited, particularly when she leaves for the day, and we soon find out why — her lost love was overseas serving in the military, and she meets him at the airport for an adorably sweet hello-again embrace. As we mentioned before, it’s an “awww!” moment, which makes the video “awww”-dorable. What do you think of Taylor Swift’s latest video? Let us know in the comments below!
