Coldplay/Rihanna Duet ‘Princess Of China’ Leaks Online

Chris Martin has called the hook-up the highlight of Mylo Xyloto. By Gil Kaufman Coldplay’s Chris Martin Photo: Justin Sullivan/ Getty Images Coldplay have performed more than half a dozen of the songs from their upcoming fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto , in concert over the past year. But the one song that singer Chris Martin has called his favorite , a hookup with Rihanna called “Princess of China,” has remained elusive. That is until Monday morning (October 17) when the tune leaked online and the world finally got a taste of what the first guest vocal on a Coldplay album sounds like. The tune opens with typically epic, widescreen Coldplay fanfare overlaid with Rihanna wailing “Oh, oh whoa whoa oh,” before settling down into a slinky, pulsing R&B beat. Martin is up first, whisper singing, “Once upon a time somebody ran/ Somebody ran away saying as fast as I can/ I got to go/ I got to go,” before Rihanna comes in with the lines, “Once upon a time we weren’t right/ All we ever seemed to do is fight/ On and on/ And on and on and on.” Ri goes on to dream about being a princess in a castle with her king and a ring, before lamenting, “You stole my star/ La la la la la la.” The glitchy, spare keyboards come back in again before the “Whoa whoa oh” chorus explodes once more and the two singers entwine their voices for a chorus of ” ‘Cause you really hurt me” laments. Their vocals seem perfectly matched, with Martin’s falsetto sitting nicely beside Rihanna’s higher range. And like the thumping previously released “Paradise,” the insistent beat on “Princess” is another nod to the more expansive sound on the upcoming album. “Well, her bit on our record is my favorite bit … when the song came out, it sort of asked for her to be on it,” Martin said last month. “And I think at this point, we have nothing to lose, and so we’ve been trying some new things and trying to break down the perceived boundaries between different types of music. … Because from where we’re sitting, it seems like you can try and sound any way you like nowadays. You don’t have to be in a rock box or a hip-hop box or a pop box, and I think it’s fun when you embrace that idea.” The album is due out October 25, and the band will embark on a series of high-profile TV appearances to promote it, including a November 12 slot on “Saturday Night Live” with host Emma Stone. They’ll also drop in at ” The Colbert Report ” on October 20, the “Today” show the next day and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on October 27. 30 Seconds To Mars Go For Guinness World Record

December 7 show at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom would set record for Most Shows Performed During a Single Album Cycle. By James Montgomery Shannon Leto, Jared Leto, and Tomo Milicevic of 30 Seconds to Mars Photo: Taylor Hill/ FilmMagic 30 Seconds to Mars released This Is War in December 2009 and have spent basically every waking moment since on the road promoting it (when they weren’t making 15-minute, NFSW mini-movies , of course). To date, they’ve played shows on six continents, and now, all that touring will earn them a place in the “Guinness Book of World Records.” On December 7, 30STM will perform their 300th — and final — show in support of War, at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. And when that gig is completed, they’ll officially set the record for Most Shows Performed During a Single Album Cycle. That’s according to a press release issued Monday (October 17) by the band’s spokesperson, which touts the show as “a special Tribus Centum Numerarae concert” and promises that “the band is also planning a special week of unique shows celebrating this milestone, beginning on December 5.” “We have been on the road for an incredible and insane two years and thought what better way to celebrate the end of this phenomenal journey than with a week of special shows in New York City,” 30STM frontman Jared Leto said in a statement. “We thought documenting this for posterity with the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ would be fun especially as we aren’t any good at growing our fingernails very long or cultivating the world’s largest squash.” Don’t downplay a giant squash, dude. Tickets for the record-setting show are now available in an exclusive fan-club pre-sale through the band’s website , with tickets being made available to the general public beginning Saturday at 10 a.m. ET. Will you be at the record-setting show? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists 30 Seconds To Mars

Michael Jackson Trial Put On Hold Until Wednesday

Judge suspends trial of Dr. Conrad Murray due to a death in key witness’ family. By Gil Kaufman Conrad Murray Photo: Pool/ Getty Images After taking the day off Friday just as the prosecution was preparing to wrap up its case, the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson’s physician, Dr. Conrad Murray , is on hold due to the death of the father of the prosecution’s final witness. According to , the Los Angeles Court public information office sent out a notice Sunday explaining that details on the resumption of the trial will be sent out “when further information is available.” After two weeks of evidence attempting to portray Murray as negligent and reckless in his care for Jackson, the prosecution was close to wrapping up its part of the case when testimony was suspended Friday to allow final witness Dr. Steven Shafer to travel to a previously scheduled anesthesiology conference in Chicago. But, en route to the conference, Shafter learned that his father had died, and he never made it to the event. Shafer, described as a highly respected anesthesiologist and pharmacologist, was expected to testify about the effects of the surgical anesthetic propofol on the human body. Jackson died as a result of propofol intoxication, and the case against Murray hinges on the prosecution’s theory that the cardiologist gave the pop icon a lethal dose of the drug and then provided substandard care when Jackson went into cardiac arrest as a result. The Associated Press reported that the trial will resume Wednesday, after the judge in the case agreed to give the defense more time to prepare their response to tests the coroner’s office conducted last week on the level of the sedative lorazepam in Jackson’s system. Shafer is also expected to give a key piece of evidence to counter the defense’s claim that Jackson self-administered the fatal 25mg dose of propofol through an IV catheter in his leg. After pursuing a strategy in which the defense intended to portray Jackson as having taken the deadly dose of propofol by himself when Murray was out of the room, the doctor’s legal team pivoted last week and appeared set on focusing on an allegedly self-administered overdose of lorazepam instead. Once Shafer gives his testimony, the defense will present its case and call an estimated 15 witnesses, which could take the testimony through Friday or next Monday. Related Artists Michael Jackson

A rep confirms that the couple shared their big moment in front of 100 guests on Sunday. “We couldn’t be happier!” the couple said in a statement. “[We were] surrounded by our family and friends. We’re so glad this day has come!” The two began dating in April and got engaged just two months later. Lady Gaga Does Marilyn Monroe At President Clinton B’Day

Mother Monster serenades president on his 65th; Usher and U2’s Bono also perform. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga (file) Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Even with a galaxy of big stars on hand to honor former President Bill Clinton on his 65th birthday, it was, of course, Lady Gaga who made the big headlines Saturday night at the four-hour Clinton charity fundraiser , “A Decade of Difference.” Emerging on the stage from an all-white tree house, Gaga sang a sedate, unplugged version of “Born This Way” on keyboards, while wearing a giant cloth hat and flesh-colored cape over a similarly colored top and leggings. The backing track soon pumped up and a group of dancers came out as Gaga made her way down to the main stage and sang the line, “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen,” while the former president and his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, clapped and smiled along. Wearing a blond wig, Gaga paid homage to Marilyn Monroe by changing some of the lyrics to “Bad Romance” to “Bill romance,” prompting the president to later declare, “I thought, ‘My God, I get Lady Gaga, and I will have a heart attack celebrating my 65th birthday.’ ” “Well, I’m having my first real Marilyn moment,” Gaga joked after the opening, running her fingers through her mane. “I always wanted to have one, and I was hoping that it didn’t involve an accident with some pills and a strand of pearls, so here we are.” Gaga’s set also included a run through “Edge of Glory,” during which she said, “I wish you were playing sax with me tonight, baby,” an homage to late E Street horn man Clarence Clemons , who played on the song, but a quip that Clinton could have also taken as a nod to himself, as he’s also known for blowing a mean sax. The show took place at the Hollywood Bowl to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Clinton Foundation and, though his birthday was on August 19, Clinton was still feeling very thankful for all the fuss. “I am the only person in history who got to be President and then had a post-presidential birthday party attended by both Lady Gaga and the Secretary of State,” Clinton said to the crowd, which included such stars as Colin Farrell and Chevy Chase. “I want to thank Hillary because we met 40 years ago this year. When I met her, she was already doing the kind of work you see here long before it was cool.” Also on hand to fete the former president was Stevie Wonder, who performed “Superstition,” “Sir Duke” and “For Once in My Life” and U2 ‘s Bono and the Edge (accompanied by a laptop), who did acoustic versions of “Desire,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “One,” “Staring at the Sun” and “Miss Sarajevo.” The pair also unveiled the first-ever live version of “A Man and a Woman” from 2004’s How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, dedicating it to Chelsea Clinton and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky. The U2 singer praised the former president for his work in helping to broker peace in Ireland, saying that “at the top of the list” for playing the gig was the fact that his homeland is “truly at peace, north and south, because of the 42nd president of the United States of America,” who he dubbed the “most beloved president since JFK for us Irish.” Usher made news because he danced so hard that he split his pants during a mini-set that included a cover of the Joe Cocker take on the Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends,” as well as his own “Yeah!” and “OMG.” Also performing were Columbian pop star Juanes, country singer Kenny Chesney, Grace Potter and K’Naan. Among the celebrities on hand to make introductions were Ashton Kutcher, Ellen DeGeneres, Jason Segel and Maria Bello. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga

Taylor Swift Recalls ‘Ridiculous’ Duet With T.I.

‘We were all just so starstruck,’ she tells MTV News of performing with the rapper in Atlanta earlier this month. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: MTV News Over the course of her arena-filling Speak Now tour , Taylor Swift has been performing with some of her favorite artists. Many of the pair-ups have been with artists you might expect — Usher, Justin Bieber , Hayley Williams — but some are more likely to have you scratching your head. A swaggered-out Swift has been displaying her street cred by chilling with rappers like Nicki Minaj, T.I. and B.o.B during several of her tour stops. But it’s not all that bizarre considering Swift is a big fan of the genre. “I’m a huge hip-hop fan, and it’s been so amazing to have so many incredible artists come out and to get to sing the hooks on their songs that I’ve been blasting in my car for the last couple years,” she told MTV News at the launch event for her Wonderstruck perfume . “It’s been awesome. I couldn’t have asked for more amazing special guests on this tour, and we’re not finished yet.” When asked who she was most surprised by, she shared that it was T.I. The rapper joined Swift onstage in October, just days after finishing his 11-month prison sentence , to perform “Live Your Life.” “Well, I called T.I. the night before the show, so I felt like it’s such short notice that [he wouldn’t do it with me], and he’s just like, ‘Hey, yeah, sure,’ ” she recalled. “And it was just amazing. I was so excited ’cause I’m such a fan and I thought, ‘This is such short notice, this is so ridiculous’ that I’m asking him to do this the night before. And he’s like, ‘I’ll be there,’ ” she continued. “And he showed up for sound check and we were all just so star-struck.” The headline-making Atlanta appearance marked the beginning of T.I.’s return to public life. He’s currently releasing music (including his new single, “I’m Flexin’ ” ), working on a clothing line, Akoo and is planning to take over pop with an in-the-works remix of Ke$ha’s “Sleazy.” Swift’s Speak Now world tour continues through March 2012, with a break around the holidays in November and December. Death Cab For Cutie Play Private KCRW Show

Santa Monica, California, radio station will air performance and interview on November 1 episode of ‘Morning Becomes Eclectic.’ By Matt Elias Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard performs at Berkeley Street Studio in Santa Monica, California on Thursday Photo: Jeremiah Garcia SANTA MONICA, California — Death Cab for Cutie treated about 150 fans to a private performance Thursday night. The tiny show took place at legendary producer/mixer Bob Clearmountain’s Berkeley Street Studio in Santa Monica, California. If you weren’t one of the lucky few to attend the intimate affair, don’t fret: Local public radio station and tastemaker KCRW served as the evening’s host and will air the performance on the November 1 episode of “Morning Becomes Eclectic.” It will be available in KCRW’s archives the same day. The cozy space was a perfect setting for the Seattle quartet’s lush melodies. While the room was small, Death Cab didn’t seem to scale down their performance one bit, playing as if they were onstage at an arena. They opened their 10-song set with “Crooked Teeth,” off 2005’s Plans . Many of the songs that followed were from the band’s recent release, Codes and Keys, including “You Are a Tourist” and “Stay Young, Go Dancing.” About halfway through the set, the band sat down with KCRW DJ Anne Litt for a Q&A, which will also air on the “MBE” episode in November. The band chatted about the inspiration behind the lyrics in “You Are a Tourist,” books they’re reading and being enthralled by the Foo Fighters’ stage presence — something they witnessed firsthand after opening for them. It was their ability to absolutely own the stage that singer Ben Gibbard said he admired most about the Foos, who were doing just that across town Thursday night, playing to a sold-out crowd at the Forum. Death Cab ended with a two-song encore, or “noncore,” which Gibbard said happens when a stage is too small for a band to exit before returning. Despite the tiny venue, the band did its best to make the audience feel like it was in an arena. Related Artists Death Cab For Cutie

Nicole Scherzinger Solo Album Delayed Again

Killer Love now reportedly slated for December 6 release. By Gil Kaufman Nicole Scherzinger Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage After waiting more than five years for the domestic release of former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger ‘s debut solo effort, surely her fans can hold on for a few more weeks? The long-delayed Killer Love, which dropped in an alternate version in England in March, was slated to finally wash up on American shores on November 15. But according to the Hollywood Reporter, the disc has once again been delayed, pushed back a few weeks until December 6. No reason was given for the latest delay and the singer’s label, Interscope Records, would only say that the new release date would be “early December.” The U.S. version of the Scherzinger disc is slated to feature production by a slew of heavy hitters, including Lady Gaga collaborator RedOne, Jim Jonsin, The-Dream, Harvey Mason Jr. and Tricky Stewart. Sting (“Power’s Out”) and Snoop Dogg (“Peep Show”) are among the reported guests. 50 Cent lends some verses to the first single, “Right There.” A spokesperson for Interscope could not be reached for comment at press time about the release-date change. Scherzinger began work on her solo debut in 2005, only to shelve that album and start over again on the new effort several years later. In the meantime, Scherzinger is busy with her other full-time gig as a judge on Simon Cowell’s “X Factor.” On Thursday night’s baseball-delayed mentors’ home-visit episode , Scherzinger hooked up with Enrique Iglesias to judge the talents of her assigned group of mentees: the over 30s. So far, Scherzinger, who was tapped as the fourth judge after original fourth judge Cheryl Cole was let go early in production, has served as a type of younger doppelg
