Nate Dogg Bade Farewell By Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Warren G

‘I’m so honored, so happy that you gave me the opportunity, God, to know Nate Dogg,’ Snoop eulogized at funeral. By Rahman Dukes Snoop Dogg arrives at Nate Dogg’s funeral on Saturday Photo: MTV News LONG BEACH, California — On a dark and damp Saturday morning (March 26), thousands of family, friends and fans turned out for one last show from their hero, rap legend Nate Dogg , who was laid to rest in his hometown of Long Beach. Inside the Long Beach Cruise Terminal, lights shined down on the wooden coffin adorned with red and white flowers. Two jumbo screens on opposite sides of his casket flashed six different photos of the singer from a childhood boy, when he was known to family as “Buddy,” to the platinum singer known to the world as Nate Dogg. West Coast rap artists including Dr. Dre, Game, DJ Quik, Mack-10 and WC, DJ Pooh, Battlecat and others were on hand to pay their respects to the singer with platinum vocal chords. “1986, Poly High School, that’s where we connected for the first time,” an emotionally distraught Snoop reflected on his friend. “We didn’t know each other, but the music connected us. We built a brotherhood, a friendship.” Snoop first met Nate along with his best friend Warren G at the school where they would go on to form the rap trio 213. Warren G spoke briefly, reminding mourners in attendance what a great man the music world has lost. “It hurts me so much to see this,” Warren G said somberly while looking down at the casket. “We been through a whole lot and that was my dog. He stayed down with me from the bottom to the top. I didn’t ever think I would have to sit at a funeral for one of my dogs. All I can say is that was my friend, me him and Snoop was 213 from the balls to the walls. The music industry lost an incredible artist.” Several of Nate’s closest friends, relatives and colleagues including Xzibit, Daz and Kurupt, Butch Cassidy, Los Angeles radio station personality Big Boy from Power 106, and producer FredWreck all shared memorable stories of their friend, who they said made an important impact on their lives. Xzibit recalled a time during the Up in Smoke Tour when Nate was arrested, but hours later somehow magically appeared at the show’s next date. A teary-eyed Kurupt said Nate was the father figure who raised him. Manager Rod McGrew acted as Nate’s manager throughout his professional music career and was with him up until his last days. “He fought a hard fight,” McGrew said. He also thanked Dr. Dre and Eminem, in addition to Snoop, Warren G and Xzibit, for assisting the family in getting through the past several days. “The last three years were unbelievable. He didn’t give up. He just had a talk with God and gave up. Two hours before that he was fine.” McGrew said that with Nate’s passing, the singer’s three wishes will now be granted. “He wanted to go to heaven and hang with his boys,” McGrew said. “He loved Tupac. He recorded with him. He wanted to hang with Biggie. But the most important thing is that he can walk around heaven with his favorite artist of all time, Michael Jackson.” With his deep, melodic voice and smooth soul rumble, Dogg was one of the key elements in the rise of the West Coast G-Funk sound pioneered by Death Row Records in the early 1990s. Along with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Warren G, Nate was a critical participant in a number of major left-coast gangsta hits, including G’s “Regulate” and Dre’s iconic solo debut, 1992’s The Chronic. The hip-hop singer passed away earlier this month after suffering multiple health setbacks in the past several years stemming from separate strokes. The choir that sang during Nate’s home-going was handpicked by the singer himself. One of its members, Jacob Lusk , is currently a contestant on “American Idol.” “He was a loving caring individual,” said Snoop. “If you listen to his music, he took church melodies and flipped it with hip-hop. I’m so honored, so happy that you gave me the opportunity, God, to know Nate Dogg. I want to stand here and cry, but I have to have the strength for you Nate Dogg. It’s 213, DPG for life.” Related Videos Remembering Nate Dogg Related Photos Nate Dogg Laid To Rest, 03.26.2011 Related Artists Nate Dogg Snoop Dogg Warren G Dr. Dre DPG

The event will precede the ‘Regulate’ singer’s funeral service, which is expected to be held on Saturday. By Jayson Rodriguez Nate Dogg Photo: Todd Williamson/ Getty Images Nate Dogg is set to be celebrated and honored on Friday (March 25) in his hometown of Long Beach, California. The hip-hop singer unexpectedly passed away earlier this month after suffering multiple health setbacks in the past several years stemming from separate strokes. His life will be recognized at a public viewing to be held at the Queen Mary hotel. His family and close friends, in addition to fans, are expected to attend the event, which is taking place a day before the singer’s funeral is expected to be held. Last week, Warren G., who teamed with Nate Dogg for the pair’s breakout hit, “Regulate,” spoke about his friend’s death to MTV News while attending a tribute show at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. “I was out on the Sweat Tour with Snoop, and we had got the word from his family on what was going on, and it was just a crushing blow for us,” he said. “Just, from going to see him and lifting his spirits up when he was in therapy, and stuff like that, it’s just crazy for that to happen. And I still don’t believe it, you know what I’m saying?” Warren added, “It kind of hurts me when I look at this shirt [the SXSW tribute show’s organizers sold Nate Dogg T-shirts, with proceeds going to the late singer’s family], it’s like, ‘Damn, that’s my homeboy on this shirt.’ And I’m hurting, and you know, a lot of people are showing tons of support for his family, for his homeboys, and we really and truly appreciate that. It’s real love.” Stick with MTV News throughout the weekend for coverage of Nate Dogg’s memorial services. Simon Cowell Addresses Nicki Minaj ‘X Factor’ Judging Rumors

Cowell admits that the ‘X Factor’ job was one of ‘a lot of projects’ he discussed recently with the MC. By James Dinh Simon Cowell Photo: Dave Hogan/ Getty Images From Taylor Momsen to Enrique Iglesias, the list of rumored judges slated to join Simon Cowell on his upcoming Stateside version of “X Factor” keeps growing. Among the latest speculated additions to the TV singing competition’s coveted panel, which already includes music executive L.A. Reid, is Nicki Minaj . Speaking with XXLMag.com , Cowell addressed whispers that he met with hip-hop’s Harajuku Barbie about the reality show. While confirming that he did talk with Minaj, Cowell insisted that the duo spoke about a range of career ventures. “We spoke to Nicki actually about a lot of projects,” the British music mogul admitted. “It wasn’t specifically about this, but we were just very interested to meet her. I’m a big fan of hers. So I don’t know if it’s gonna be this show or something in the future, but it was definitely somebody I wanted to meet.” As for why the former “American Idol” judge was so persistent on a meeting with the Young Money MC, Cowell pointed to Minaj’s meteoric rise to success. “Off her own back she’s had a phenomenal year last year and she’s gonna have a phenomenal year this year,” he explained. “She’s very smart, very influential, very bright and along with artists like Jessie J. You can’t ignore them and sooner or later they have to be in our world and we have to be in their world.” Whether or not Minaj will make an appearance on “X Factor,” the talent aficionado said he is currently in talks with another hip-hop heavyweight about joining the forthcoming show, which debuts in September. Audition dates for the program begin on Sunday and continue on until late May. Cowell recently spoke to MTV News about what he’s looking for in an “X Factor” contestant. “I love unusual people. I always say, you’ve got to embrace the madness,” Cowell said with a laugh. “I like that we’re going to be very open-minded. I think we’re going to have good enough people on this panel that we’re not gonna miss out on anyone who’s got potential.” Do you think Nicki Minaj would make a good “X Factor” judge? Britney Spears Announces Las Vegas Nightclub Performance

‘Looks like my little secret isnt a secret anymore,’ she tweets before tonight’s Rain gig with DJ Pauly D from ‘Jersey Shore.’ By James Dinh Britney Spears Photo: Jive With less than a week until Femme Fatale hits stores, Britney Spears is adding another date to her promotional calendar. The “Hold It Against Me” singer took to her Twitter on Friday afternoon (March 25) to announce a performance at Rain nightclub at Las Vegas’ Palms Casino and Resort scheduled for later this evening. “Looks like my little secret isnt a secret anymore. Whos coming to watch me take the stage TONIGHT at @RainLasVegas at @PalmsLasVegas?” the pop star tweeted. “You’re all invited. Be there or be square bitch!” The curtain was pulled back on the Vegas performance earlier this week when OnSetProductions.com posted a notice scouting for fans to be part of the event, which will be filmed by MTV. “Jersey Shore” star DJ Pauly D will also be on hand throughout the evening. Britney is no stranger to the Rain stage. Back in 2003, the pop titan gave fans a sneak peek of her album In the Zone by surprising about 1,800 clubgoers with a 30-minute set, which included songs like “Me Against the Music” and “Breathe on Me.” Spears’ Vegas performance is the latest in her string of promotional ventures for her upcoming LP. Last week, it was confirmed that she would pre-tape her “Good Morning America” appearance on Sunday, two days before it will air on the show. On the day of her album release, she will also appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for a late-night performance of her two latest singles: “Till the World Ends” and “Hold It Against Me.” In addition to her concert specials, MTV will dedicate March 29 to the singer for what is being dubbed a “Britney Takeover” day. The entertainer will also make appearances on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and the Kids’ Choice Awards on April 2. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Britney Spears Related Artists Britney Spears

B.o.B Disses Tyler The Creator In ‘No Future’

Bobby Ray’s track comes in response to Tyler’s ‘Yonkers.’ By Jayson Rodriguez B.o.B Photo: Frank Mullen Not everyone is amused by the antics of Odd Future’s Tyler the Creator. B.o.B took aim at the upstart on Friday (March 25) with a fiery dis track titled “No Future,” a response to a line the California rapper issued on his breakout “Yonkers.” “What you think of Hayley Williams?/ F— her, Wolf Haley robbing ’em,” Tyler raps on the song. “I’ll crash that f—ing airplane that that f—-t n—a B.o.B is in/ And stab Bruno Mars in his goddamn esophagus.” The line is characteristic of Tyler and his crew’s shocking rhymes; the collective are, in part, inspired by Eminem and works like his Relapse album with its slew of serial-killer references. The “Airplanes” star, however, isn’t a fan. “If I was you I would be a little more cautious,” Bobby Ray raps on “No Future.” “I’m way too high for you to look at/ The future ain’t looking promising for these rookies/ This is target practice but I don’t even pull the f—ing trigger anymore, ’cause it’s just a waste of bullets/ Come and get this pu—, wipe them off the floor/ I’m guessing they was hoping for some different results/ I’m guessing they was guessing ’cause they wasn’t really sure/ But f— it, I guess I’mma have to let these n—–s know. “Keep f—ing with me, you ain’t gon have no future,” he concludes. Tyler responded via Twitter. Perhaps taking the high road after driving too close to the edge, the 20-year-old wrote that he didn’t think “No Future” was a dis track. He even gave B.o.B props on the rhyme. “Whoa,” he wrote in his first message. “I don’t think the ‘No Future’ song is even a diss. But I’ve never heard him spit like that. Took me by surprise, cus it’s tight.” A second message took a swipe at producer Alex Da Kid over “Airplanes” and “Love the Way You Lie” sounding too similar. Sum 41 Size Up Coldplay In Musical March Madness

After handling Arcade Fire, Deryck Whibley has eyes on Sweet 16. By James Montgomery Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty No band has shaken up the 2011 Musical March Madness tournament quite like Sum 41 , the Canadian punk quartet that entered the fray as a lowly #16 seed, then proceeded to run roughshod over heavily favored #1 Arcade Fire in the tourney’s opening round . Now, it’s on to the second round , where Sum faces the unenviable task of taking down another titan: 8th-seeded Coldplay. And with voting now open in the matchup, MTV News decided to ask Sum frontman Deryck Whibley what he thinks about his band’s chances. Can they shock the world once again and earn a berth in the Sweet 16? Turns out, even he’s not sure — mostly because he hasn’t been paying much attention.

Lady Gaga Releases Country Version Of ‘Born This Way’

New take on hit song, dubbed ‘The Country Road Version,’ features slide guitar, mandolin and harmonica. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images You can take all those Madonna comparisons and throw them out the window of your Ford F-150 truck, because on Thursday night Lady Gaga released a whole new version of her global smash “Born This Way” that featured a totally unexpected spin. After tweeting to her Little Monsters that she was preparing to release “Born This Way (The Country Road Version),” Mother Monster dropped the tune at midnight PT on Friday (March 25) via her Twitter account … and it did not disappoint. The new rendition of the hit opens with ominous, swirling guitars and then introduces a fuzzed-out slide guitar and harmonica wheeze, with all of the thumping disco beats replaced by restrained brush drumming and a more laid-back vibe. Once it kicks into the first chorus, the song continues to take its time, choogling along on live-sounding, laconic drumming and lots of soulful harmonica. Just before the three-minute mark, Gaga mixes in some new lyrics, drawling, “If I wanna make it country, baby, then it’s OK, cuz I was born, I was born, I was born this way,” over picked mandolin. “From London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave,” she adds, as the song breaks into full-on country-rock mode reminiscent of late-period Bon Jovi in the final minute. Meanwhile, the original, non-boot-scooting version of “BTW” notched its sixth week in a row at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, which is what Gaga said prompted her to drop the surprise remake on her fans. Earlier this week, Gaga revealed that she’s almost done recording her Born This Way album , telling fans via Twitter, “In Nebraska, finishing up record today … I’m so proud of the album: I keep dancing+drinking: metal/techno rock journey of a woman on the run.” Plans are now being worked up for the tour in support of Born This Way (due out May 23) and Gaga’s first swing at directing, a collaboration with her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, on the video for the album’s upcoming second single, “Judas.” What do you think of Gaga’s twanged-up version of “Born This Way”?
