New Kids On The Block’s Jordan Knight Releases Dance Track ‘Let’s Go Higher’

By Jocelyn Vena Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images Jordan Knight’s new single “Let’s Go Higher” was released Tuesday (March 1), and it’s a chugging club tune about hitting the dance floor with that special someone. The New Kids on the Block singer hooked up with onetime Lady Gaga collaborator Colby O’Donis, who wrote the song with the Knight in mind and felt it was the perfect track to re-launch his solo career. “I had a track and I really liked this track. I needed a writer to see if they could put some good idea over it,” Knight said of another song he had been working on. “I was always talking about Colby O’Donis. He’s got a great vibe,” he recalled, adding that O’Donis had something else in mind for the pop star. “He sent [it] and it was produced by him in his studio, so the production wasn’t exactly where I wanted it. But I could recognize the song as being a really good song with a great hook and great message,” he said. Knight first hooked up with the songwriter a year ago before reworking the track with Marcus Siskind. “I’ve been kind of working on a solo record for a year and a half and it just didn’t feel like it was all put together,” Knight explained. “It all fell together now at a great time.” Knight is soaking up the fun, pop vibe that has taken over mainstream radio and will certainly find its way onto his next album. “Higher” is the lead single off Knight’s May solo album release, Unfinished, which drops the same month that New Kids on the Block is set to hit the road with the Backstreet Boys on their highly anticipated joint venture. “There’s a few ballads. It’s not ballad heavy. It does represent well the tone of the album,” he said. “The tone is definitely upbeat. I think a lot of people thought that I would do mid-tempos — Jordan’s the crooner romantic guy — but it’s not really that kind of music. I honestly prefer upbeat music. I prefer doing upbeat music. With the New Kids, I loved the ballads. I was all about ballads. I’m not really into ballads anymore,” he laughed. Related Artists Jordan Knight

Natalie Portman ‘Shocked And Disgusted’ By John Galliano’s Hitler Remarks

By Eric Ditzian Natalie Portman Photo: Matt Carr/Getty Images A day after Natalie Portman avoided answering a reporter’s question about allegedly anti-Semitic remarks made by Christian Dior designer John Galliano, the newly minted Oscar winner released a statement condemning him. During a post-Oscar press conference on Sunday, a question about Galliano’s comments was cut off before Portman, who appears in ads for Miss Dior Cherie perfume, could answer. But after video surfaced the next day of Galliano expressing an admiration for Adolf Hitler, the 29-year-old actress announced late Monday that she would have not associate herself with the designer. “I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today,” she said in the statement. “In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way.” The video in question, obtained by Britain’s The Sun, reportedly shows Galliano at a bar in Paris in October. He appears intoxicated as he speaks to unseen patrons at a nearby table. “I love Hitler,” Galliano says. “Your mother, your forefathers would be f—ing gassed and f—ing dead.” Dior originally suspended Galliano for other, allegedly anti-Semitic remarks made during an argument at a bar in Paris last week. The designer was arrested and charged with assault and making anti-Semitic comments. On Tuesday, Dior officially fired Galliano, according to Women’s Wear Daily. “I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are a total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior,” Dior president Sidney Toledano said in a statement announcing the action. “I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful,” Portman added in her statement.

New ‘Never Say Never’ Clip Shows Justin Bieber Singing With Fan

By Eric Ditzian Justin Bieber in the new “Never Say Never” clip Photo: Paramount Earlier this week, “Never Say Never” director Jon Chu promised MTV News that his new “Director’s Fan Cut” of Justin Bieber’s 3-D flick would deliver 40 minutes of fresh footage, including different songs (such as “Favorite Girl”), some more shirtless shots of the teen singer (“Maybe some abs!”) and extra scenes of him interacting with fans. video platform video management video solutions video player With the recut movie hitting theaters on Friday (February 25), Paramount Pictures has released a clip showing just that: the Biebs hanging out with some of his young fanatical followers. The 71-second promo shows Bieber — pre-haircut, of course — at an intimate gathering in Phoenix. While the pop star gives an acoustic performance on a small stage, his fans beg him to play “Baby,” but he jokes, “I don’t know that song.” He then declares to a very young fan, “I’ll only sing ‘Baby’ if you come up here and sing it with me.” Cue the cuteness. The girl sits on his lap and together they belt out the hit single. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Bieber show off an easy, breezy way with his youngest fans. Last year, he popped up on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to surprise a 3-year-old Belieber named Cody who’d become an Internet sensation after her sister posted a video of her crying over the teen heartthrob on YouTube. As he tweeted later, “Makin faces with Cody!” The re-released “Never Say Never” represents an effort both to goose box-office receipts three weeks after the film’s initial opening and to feed the Beliebers’ seemingly insatiable appetite for anything and everything connected to the star. “We originally had a two-and-a-half-hour version of the movie, which we obviously couldn’t release,” Chu explained to us. “So we started to think about putting stuff back in that didn’t have to do with our story but that we knew people would love.” Are you planning to go see the “Director’s Fan Cut” of “Never Say Never”? Chris Medina Calls Post-‘American Idol’ Single ‘Heartfelt’

‘He was really good in the studio,’ producer Rodney Jerkins recalls of recording ‘What Are Words.’ By Kara Warner, with additional reporting by Jim Cantiello Chris Medina Photo: MTV News While Chris Medina’s exit from “American Idol” is still a shock to many fans, the fact that the early favorite has already lined up his first post-“Idol” project (by way of super-producer Rodney Jerkins and the single “What Are Words”) should alleviate the burn. MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with both Medina and Jerkins recently to get the inside scoop on the heartfelt track. “I always knew who Rodney Jerkins was, but after doing some research, I didn’t realize how ‘the man’ he actually was,” Medina explained of his reaction to getting a phone call two days after his unexpected elimination. “I got a call on Friday and then that Monday I recorded,” he said. “It was surreal. It was great.” Medina went on to say that while the song isn’t technically his style, it’s not entirely out of his “wheelhouse.” “The words totally embody what my situation is,” he said. “It’s heartfelt, it’s real, and it was an honor to be asked to put my voice to this wonderful material.” For his part, Jerkins, who was inspired to write the song after seeing Medina’s first audition, said the 26-year-old was a total pro during their recording session. “He was really good in the studio,” Jerkins said. “That’s always the fearful moment for myself as a producer. The first time you work with a new artist [you wonder], ‘What is it going to sound like when you get in the studio?’ “[Medina] came in here and he listened to it one time down and then he was like, ‘I think I got it.’ He started singing it for us in the room, and we were just floored,” Jerkins recalled. “Like, ‘Wow,’ he learned it that fast. I’m like, ‘OK, it’s time for you to get in the booth.’ He was great.” Regarding the higher vocals Medina uses in the track, Jerkins said that is all about his technique of challenging his artists. “A lot of technology has made it where we don’t push the artist like we used to,” he said. “I’m a ’90s guy. I come from the school of the ’90s, where you didn’t have Auto-Tune, we didn’t have the tricks of technology. Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Video Is ‘Slimy,’ ‘Sexy,’ Fans Say

MTV News asked fans in New York City’s Times Square for their reactions. “It looks like she’s giving birth to something,” Angela Foreman suggested. “She looks really slimy!” Amanda Russ squealed. Another fan, Katie Doig, made the same observation as several of those we spoke to: “She’s so bizarre, but she’s great!” The video features Gaga taking on various identities, both “good” and “evil,” and is filled with dancing, kaleidoscopic imagery, protruding facial and shoulder horns and, of course, fashionably loud costumes and makeup. “She looks strange,” Foreman said about one scene. “Like a devil, very demonic.” “I don’t understand [but] it’s typical from Lady Gaga,” Guillaume Lachaud said about the unusual looks, and then added, “very beautiful, very sexy.” Gaga also is seen performing intricate moves (choreographed by Laurieann Gibson) to the “Born This Way” chorus, while dressed in a black bra and bikini; her body is especially exposed and toned in this clip. “She’s such a good dancer!” Doig exclaimed. As for the tuxedo-wearing skeleton sequence, it reminded some fans of another music-video pop icon. “She looks like Michael Jackson!” Lachaud smiled. “Very ‘Thriller,’ Foreman added. In spite of their baffled expressions, all agreed that the video held up against her previous work. “I think she looks great,” Andrew Janda complimented. “It’s a nice video.” “She’s so out there,” Doig laughed. “But it’s so good, like, only Lady Gaga can do it.” Sound off on the “Born This Way” video in the comments below! I’ve worked with Britney for 12, 13 years now,” he told MTV News. “It’s always great to work with someone when you work with someone time and time again; it’s always great, and it always gets better. And just to see her evolve as an artist, it’s an amazing, amazing thing.” Jerkins worked with Spears in the past on “Overprotected (Darkchild Remix)” and “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” in the early 2000s, as well as her leaked version of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone,” when she was recording Circus. This time around, he said Spears knows exactly what she wants musically on the album. “She was very hands-on. She had a lot of ideas for me,” he said. “She’s great. She gets it. She is a top-notch veteran pro at this now.” She might be getting some help from Jerkins, but Dr. Luke and Max Martin are executive-producing the album, and Jerkins had nothing but the best to say about the production team. “I never spoke to them, [but] those guys are just great, and the stuff that they’ve been doing is just really, really great stuff,” he said. “I’m sure with their hands on it, it’s great.” Spears herself has described the album as “moody, edgy pop with A LOT of energy,” hinting that many of the songs will be uptempo, and Jerkins noted that the songs he’s been writing for her have certainly fit that label. “I know the songs that I do are uptempo,” he said. “The stuff I’ve done, I think, will kind of shock people.
