Lady Gaga Inspires Fans At Madison Square Garden Show

By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga performs at Madison Square Garden on Sunday Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage On Monday night, Lady Gaga’s little monsters put on their best Gaga as they headed to Madison Square Garden for Mother Monster ‘s latest stop at the famed New York City venue, where she was making her first of two appearances. The fans were not only treated to her Monster Ball, but also got the chance to see Gaga’s new single “Born This Way” live and be part of Gaga history as she taped the concert for an upcoming HBO special . So, what stood out most? “When she gave her little speech about never letting someone tell you can’t get a Grammy [or] you can’t get an HBO special,” Gaga fan Leanna told MTV News outside the show, moments after Gaga wrapped up. “I cried because it was just so meaningful … it’s like no one can tell me no.” Fellow fan Carey noted that Gaga is always thinking of her fans when she puts on her two-hour-plus spectacle. “I always feel like it’s catered to her customers and her fans,” he excitedly shared. “Go little monsters!” Casey noted that being in the room as Gaga performed “Born This Way” was awe-inspiring. “I mean, it’s her hometown and she just reenacted the Grammy performance,” she said. “It’s f—in’ beautiful.” It seemed that particular song really resonated with the fans who came out to see Gaga. “My favorite was the last song, ‘Born This Way.’ To me, it’s a great anthem for kids today, or anyone for that matter,” Gaga fan Tony said. Evie and her pal Cecelia also loved the finale. “I loved ‘Born This Way’ at the end,” Evie said. “It was perfect. It was the perfect ending.” And two of Gaga’s New York fans summed it up this way: “She is our religion,” Danielle proclaimed. Her pal Joey agreed, adding, “She’s god! After a rousing set from the Scissor Sisters, the arena’s lights dimmed and the crowd went crazy as the chugging beat of “Dance in the Dark” played, counting down Mother Monster’s entrance. “New York City, did you guys come to party tonight?” she asked as she appeared. “The Monster Ball will set you free.” In a sheer dress and nun’s habit, Gaga performed “Love Game.” “My name is Lady Gaga, and I was born and raised in the unbreakable streets of New York City,” she proclaimed. “Thank you so much. Tonight, I want you to forget all of your insecurities because I didn’t used to be brave but you have made me brave, little monsters.” She then kicked it old school with “Boys Boys Boys.” “Are we gonna get divided now if I put this on?” she asked before pulling on a Yankees cap. By Shawn Adler Rihanna and Kanye West perform during the NBA All-Star Game Photo: Getty Images Hometown hero Kobe Bryant may have blistered the Eastern Conference during the first half of Sunday night’s (February 20) NBA All-Star Game, but it took Rihanna , Drake, and Kanye West to bring the Los Angeles crowd to their feet, with a rollicking performance during half-time of the gala sporting event. Wearing a jet black ensemble and flanked on either side by string instrumentalists, RiRi opened the set with an orchestral arrangement of her hit “Umbrella,” before segueing into the faster tempo of “Only Girl” and “Rude Boy.” Rihanna was joined on stage for her fourth song when collaborator and rumored former paramour Drake jumped up from the audience to sing the duo’s hit “What’s My Name.” The rapper might have even scored the most points of the night by managing to work “Happy Birthday” into the song’s lyrics for Rihanna, who was celebrating turning 23-years-old.

Nicki Minaj Rips Through L.A. Club Set During NBA All-Star Weekend

Nicki Minaj, flanked by her sideman/homey SB, took the stage at club Exchange in downtown Los Angeles, just a few blocks from the Staples Center, where the All-Star festivities are taking place throughout the weekend. Not long after entering the massive venue, which was filled with a sea of Barbie fans, the Queens native made a beeline for the DJ booth and swiftly grabbed the mic from DJ Biz Markie, following a set by fellow rapper Rick Ross. Ross had just finished tearing through his own hits including club anthems “B.M.F,” “9 Piece,” “Aston Martin Music” and “Hustlin’.” But after Rozay, the Los Angeles audience got who they were waiting for. “Where my New York people at?” Nicki asked her fans as she stepped to the stage. From there, Nicki went into her latest single, “Moment for Life,” which features Young Money capo Drake. “I fly with the stars in the skies/ I am no longer trying to survive/ I believe that life is a prize/ But to live doesn’t mean you’re alive,” Nicki rapped as the audience sang and bounced along. But the best was yet to come. After cutting her song short during the Drake verse, the “legendary Biz Markie,” as Ross referred to the iconic MC, cued up Nicki’s controversial record “Roman’s Revenge” to the female MC’s surprise, sending the crowd into a rage. “I am not Jasmine, I am Aladdin/ So far ahead, these bums is laggin’/ See me in that new thing, bums is gaggin’/ I’m startin’ to feel like a dungeon dragon/ Raah, raah, like a dungeon dragon,” an amped Nicki rapped. Midway through her first verse on “Roman,” the MC stepped away from the stage and disappeared into the night for the final time. There’s been no word if Nicki’s abrupt ending was planned or not, but regardless, fans went home happy, comfortable with every penny spent to catch a glimpse of rap’s most-wanted girl. For the remainder of the weekend, Nicki is slated to appear at a host of events including a grand finale at the same location on Sunday night featuring manager Diddy. ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ Director’s Cut Could Hit Theaters Soon

By Eric Ditzian Justin Bieber in “Never Say Never” Photo: Paramount With a running time of one hour and 45 minutes, Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” packs in 3-D concert footage, home videos, behind-the-scenes looks, interviews with everyone from Snoop Dogg to the pop star’s vocal coach and extended, slow-motion shots of the 16-year-old shaking out his famous locks. Perhaps, however, you didn’t get your fill of the kid — perhaps your Bieber Fever rages on. In which case, you might be in luck. New York magazine’s Vulture blog reports that Paramount Pictures is making plans for a director’s cut of the film, following its $29.5 million opening this past weekend. Director Jon M. Chu is said to be working on an updated version of the movie, including new live performances, footage of Bieber at the “Never Say Never” premiere and various advance screenings, and potentially scenes shot at the Grammy Awards on Sunday. The studio is reportedly waiting for delivery of the re-cut film before deciding if it will be released in theaters late in February or as part of a special DVD. MTV News’ request for comment to Paramount (which, like MTV News, is owned by Viacom) was not returned as of press time. Box-office grosses for the concert film are likely to decline in the coming weeks, following Bieber fans’ initial pilgrimage to multiplexes during opening weekend, and the re-cut film could dramatically boost its B.O. bottom line. If the new version does hit theaters, it will likely be as a 3-D-only release, as the cost of releasing digital prints is significantly less than printing and shipping film prints. A final decision on a release will be made once Chu finishes the cut after returning from international premieres in London and Paris. Group’s first Slip-N-Slide Records release will feature ‘Lay You Down.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Jagged Edge Photo: MTV News When Jagged Edge decided to name their new album — their seventh overall as a group — The Remedy , the four-man collective definitely had the idea of repairing relationships in mind. “We’re trying to bring back black love,” group member Richard Wingo told MTV News. “That’s what sets us apart from a lot of the music: It’s not just sex, it’s love involved. That’s what people need more of today. They need to put down their guns a little more.” Their forthcoming LP, due in March from their new recording home , hip-hop label Slip-N-Slide Records (Trina, Plies), features Jagged Edge (Wingo, Kyle Norman, and Brian and Brandon Casey) returning to their roots. “Lay You Down,” a mid-tempo number they’ve released, proves it’s been easy for them to come home musically. The album’s title is derived from a track on their standout third album, 2001’s Jagged Little Thrill . That set included the hit “Where the Party At,” featuring Nelly, and “Goodbye.” “Remedy,” although not a single from that album, like “Driving Me to Drink,” was a fan favorite and classic Jagged Edge ballad. “We wanted to go back and touch on it a little bit,” Wingo said about the nostalgic title. “It’s just fun: We always been big on titles. If you go back throughout our albums, we have songs like ‘Head of the Household’ and ‘Respect,’ just a bunch of great titles for songs.
