Diddy-Dirty Money Get AMA Crowd Swaying With ‘Coming Home’

Typically flashy rapper slows it down at the American Music Awards — but he still brings the fireworks. By Jayson Rodriguez Diddy performs at the American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images/DCP Diddy knows a thing or two about showstopping performances, but during the 2010 American Music Awards, the hip-hop mogul had a more measured set as Dirty Money’s Dawn Richard and Kalenna flanked him through a reflective rendition of his latest, “Coming Home.” “What am I supposed to do when the club lights come on?” Diddy rapped, sporting all-black attire and a half-moon hair part. “It’s easy to be Puff, but it’s harder to be Sean/ What if my twins ask why I ain’t marry their mom?/ Damn, how do I respond?/ What if my son stares with a face like my own?/ And says he wants to be like me when he’s grown?/ Sh–, but I ain’t finish growing.” The rest of his Dirty Money crew wore white and followed Diddy’s lead in the elegant performance. The rapper arrived in a whirl of smoke while his orchestra played up the triumphant track, which will appear on Diddy-Dirty Money’s forthcoming Last Train to Paris. As he reached the stirring lyrics about his offspring, the camera panned to his youngest son, Christian Combs, who had a smile as bright as his father’s jewelry. Fireworks dotted the superstar’s performance, and the audience swayed their arms in unison throughout. “Let the rain wash away/ All the pain of yesterday,” Richard and Kalenna sang on the chorus. “I know my kingdom awaits/ And they’ve forgiven my mistakes/ I’m coming home, coming home/ Tell the world I’m coming home.” What did you think of Diddy’s AMA performance? Ne-Yo Delivers Rousing Libra Scale Medley At The AMAs

The singer’s performance included segments of three tunes from his new album. By Jayson Rodriguez Ne-Yo performs at the American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: ABC/Dick Clark Productions Ne-Yo may be the ultimate gentleman, but the singer/songwriter was rough and rousing during his medley set at the 2010 American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 21). During his performance, the R&B artist sang parts of no less than three songs from his about-to-be-released album, Libra Scale . Ne-Yo stormed the stage to his stirring hit “Champagne Life” before quickly transitioning to “One in a Million,” for which he tossed his jacket aside and darted toward the object of his affection. “Girl, you’re so one in a million,” he sang over the breezy track. “You are/ Baby, you are the best I ever had/ And I’m certain that there ain’t nothing better/ No, there ain’t nothing better than this.” Ne-Yo danced nimbly and swiftly while a pack of females in red circled around him as he tried to zone in on his leading lady. The action on stage subsided moments later, however, when Ne-Yo launched into “Beautiful Monster.” Alone on stage, Ne-Yo and his love interest tangled and traded some fancy footwork before she tossed her white coat aside to reveal risqu

Ke$ha Proclaims ‘We R Who We R’ At AMAs

Ke$ha destroys hate with her American Music Awards performance. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha performs at the 2010 American Music Awards Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images Whirring sirens and post-apocalyptic stage design certainly set the tone for Ke$ha’s energetic American Music Awards performance on Sunday (November 21). Surrounded by keyboards, Ke$ha kicked it all off in a glowing robot helmet and began her Animal track, “Take It Off.” Soon she was surrounded by dancers, some of whom broke through mirrors to join the singer on the stage as she transitioned into her Cannibal track “We R Who We R.” For the performance, Ke$ha let her hair down and graced the stage in a mirrored bodysuit and leather jacket. She danced and gyrated her way through the track off her latest release, out this week. When she wasn’t dancing, she played a white guitar as confetti fell from the ceiling toward the song’s synth filled and Auto-Tuned finale. As the song wrapped, she turned the guitar around and revealed that it said “hate” with a slash through it. She destroyed the guitar as sparks flew from behind her. “This year has been carnivorous and life-changing. I have my rowdy, gorgeous fans to thank for taking me on the ride of a lifetime,” she said in a statement. “My only goal with this record is to keep them dancing,” she said of the new album. “The songs on Cannibal were made to inspire people to ignore any hate or judgment and be themselves unapologetically. It’s the perfect companion to Animal and I hope you guys like it. And if you don’t like it — bite me.” What did you think of Ke$ha’s AMA Performance? Backstreet Boys And New Kids On The Block Close The AMAs

The boy bands bring their old favorites to the American Music Awards. By Jocelyn Vena New Kids On The Block perform with the Backstreet Boys at the 2010 American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Kevin Winter/ AMA2010/ Getty Images They might have been the only nine guys who could close out a show as hectic as the American Music Awards. In a show filled with pop newcomers like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber , New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys graced the stage to show they still had the right stuff. Like any good boy-band performance, there were pyrotechnics and sweet dance moves. The pop supergroup started with a mash-up of the BSB hit “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” and the NKOTB classic “Hangin’ Tough.” Soon the guys slowed it down for Backstreet’s “I Want It That Way” and then kicked it old school for the New Kids’ “Step by Step.” All nine guys took a dance break before they segued into “The Right Stuff,” complete with the New Kids’ infamous shuffle dance from the video. The spotlight once again fell on a BSB tune before they capped it off with “Larger Than Life,” complete with an “NKOTBSB” chant. Confetti fell from the sky as the guys closed out the show. Earlier in the night, all nine guys hit the AMA red carpet together. In an interview earlier this month, they teased that there was a chance they might record a track together. “It’s tough getting these guys in the studio. These young cats,” New Kid Joey McIntyre explained about his tourmates, the Backstreet Boys . “Well, it’s honestly, it is tough to get everybody together. Yes, we have lots of great intentions. Christina Aguilera Struts Through ‘Express (Burlesque)’ At AMAs

Xtina gives a glimpse inside her upcoming big-screen debut, at the American Music Awards. By Gil Kaufman Christina Aguilera performs at the American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage Before she even took the stage at the American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 21), Christina Aguilera had already watched a series of over-the-top performances from show-opener Rihanna , an uncharacteristically sedate Miley Cyrus , the always outrageous Katy Perry and a piano-tinkling, snow-shower summoning Taylor Swift . In other words, she saw the future, and it was a cornucopia of female stars who have taken cues from her career — and she made sure to show them that she’s still got a few tricks up her sleeve. Preparing to make her big-screen debut alongside Cher in the upcoming “Burlesque,” as promised, Aguilera gave a sneak peek at what we can expect in theaters. “It’s going to be fantastic,” she told MTV News. “And it will give you a fitting little look inside the movie.” Seated in a chair with her back to the audience and wearing a black spangly bodysuit, knee-high boots and a bowler, Aguilera snapped her fingers and leaned into the jazzy, skittery rhythms of the new tune “Express (Burlesque).” As the camera pulled out, it revealed a set made up to mimic the backstage at a burlesque club, with Aguilera surrounded by a squadron of equally scantily clad dancers. She flashed back to the “Dirrty”-era Xtina, straddling and shimmying on the chair, then busting into the song’s uptempo chorus and showing off the throaty pipes that made her a star. Shaking her hair along with her lingerie-clad dancers, the singer was clearly back in her element, mixing club beats with a throwback, “Free Your Mind”-style R&B vibe and strutting across the stage confidently with her patented growly sass intact. Even after a career spent in the spotlight as a child star on the “Mickey Mouse Club” and a pop icon since her late teens, Aguilera said the difficulty of trying to reproduce the dancing in the film for the AMAs took a toll on her. “It will be another very new challenge for me,” Aguilera admitted beforehand. “My legs have been incredibly sore as I stepped into the role of Ali for this.” In the film, Aguilera plays a small-town girl with big dreams who stumbles on a burlesque club owned by the feisty Tess (Cher). Aguilera added that, while relearning the dance routines was grueling, the choreography is amazing. “You’re going to get quite the show,” she promised. “Quite the spectacle.” While Aguilera is new to the world of acting, Cher told MTV News that the pop star can dish it out with the best of them. “The scenes that she and I had together, I really enjoyed, and I really believe that she’s got definite chops,” she said. “We worked well together. I enjoyed all of it, and she was toe-to-toe with me the whole time.” What did you think of Christina’s performance at the AMAs? Share your reviews in the comments! Pink Toasts AMA Crowd With ‘Raise Your Glass’

Pregnant singer performs one of her Greatest Hits … So Far!!! . By Gil Kaufman Pink performs at the American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images Not long after Bon Jovi took the stage at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles at the American Music Awards on Sunday night to play a mini-set of greatest hits, Pink dropped by to celebrate her own just-released career retrospective, Greatest Hits … So Far!!! . But instead of trolling through her catalog, she stuck to the new single “Raise Your Glass,” another sparky bit of pop-foolery on which she once again encourages you to get the party started. The always-unpredictable (and did we mention pregnant?) singer is clearly not done with the acrobatic feats of daring that she showcased on her most recent tour. But in keeping with her new status as a mom-to-be, she left the acrobatics to the skateboarders and punk cheerleaders who crowded the stage around her as she danced like a B-girl beamed down from the set of 1984’s “Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo, ” rocking a mini-gold jacket, black high-waisted Hammer pants, black bra and bedazzled black headband. With a colorful, multi-level set that mixed candy-colored risers and half-pipes, Pink worked the stage as she swayed her head side-to-side amid female dancers being tossed up in the air like they were on the sidelines at a Saturday afternoon college football game. When one of her cohorts offered her a wine glass, she lamented that it was empty, but, you know, that’s probably a good thing at this point. And then, inexplicably, in the middle of the song, she tossed a bucket full of glitter at a portly extra hanging from an aerialist perch. He responded by yelping, off key, “I freakin’ love glitter! ” By song’s end, she was back center stage and out of breath, beaming as a shower of streamers, balloons and confetti rained down on the crowd. In other words, the perfect ending to a Pink party. What did you think of Pink’s performance? Related Photos Performances At The 2010 American Music Awards Related Artists P!nk

Justin Bieber Gets Serious With ‘Pray’ At AMAs

Teen star performed his new ballad at Sunday’s American Music Awards. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber performs at the 2010 American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: ABC Sitting at a piano, Justin Bieber showed his haters he’s more than a pretty face and floppy hair for his American Music Awards performance. Bieber played his new single, the uplifting ballad “Pray,” which is a departure from his usual upbeat pop fare. There were no pyrotechnics and no backup dancers. The beginning of the performance was all about Bieber singing the new track off his My Worlds Acoustic album (out on Friday). Midway through the song, however, Bieber threw in that showmanship that’s made him famous. Just one performance after Katy Perry used a children’s choir for her performance of her equally inspirational song, “Firework,” Bieber was joined by a choir of his own. He ended the song on his knees while the crowd rose to their feet to give him a standing ovation. The track — which features a mid-tempo, world-music beat, synths and Bieber’s vocals in a lower key than we’ve heard before — repeats one simple refrain in the chorus. “I close my eyes and I can see a better day/ I close my eyes and pray,” he sings. “It’s a very uplifting song, very motivational,” Bieber told Ryan Seacrest earlier this week about the song. “It definitely comes from the heart. It’s very beautiful. I definitely thought of Michael [Jackson’s] ‘Man in the Mirror’ when I was writing it. The track can be found on the singer’s third release in a year, which features acoustic versions of some of his biggest hits like “Baby.” What did you think of Justin Bieber’s AMA performance? Malin Akerman Reportedly Replacing Lindsay Lohan In ‘Inferno’

‘Watchmen’ star will take over lead role in Linda Lovelace biopic. By Mawuse Ziegbe Malin Akerman Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images The onetime Lindsay Lohan vehicle “Inferno” has found a new face to heat up the screen. Malin Akerman will replace the troubled actress in the Linda Lovelace biopic, according to Deadline.com . Akerman is known for her roles in diverse fare such as the ensemble romantic comedy “Couples Retreat” and the superhero drama “Watchmen.” The Swedish-born star will portray late porn actress Lovelace, who rose to prominence for the cult 1972 adult flick “Deep Throat” before later speaking out against the porn industry. The replacement comes after Lohan’s highly publicized issues with drugs and stints in jail threatened to derail the project. The actress spent 13 days in prison in July for violating probation stemming from a 2007 DUI conviction after the alcohol-monitoring device she had been sporting since May reportedly went off at party, and a judge found that Lohan was skipping alcohol-education classes. She was later hauled back to prison for a day-long bid after failing a court-mandated drug test. Lohan is currently in treatment after a judge ordered the actress to remain in rehab until January. Despite Lohan’s legal woes, director Matthew Wilder had publicly stood by the actress. “We love her. We want her to do well,” Wilder said in a statement to MTV News in September after Lohan returned to jail for the second time this year. “We will make the picture shortly.” However, he did admit to being frustrated about Lohan’s ongoing issues. “I understand people’s exasperation. I share it,” he said. “But there is a tremendous gift underneath all the obvious baggage.” By November, Wilder conceded that the project would be moving on without the starlet. “We are withdrawing our offer from Lindsay Lohan,” he told E! News on Friday. “We are currently in negotiations [with another actress] and working out the legalities of bringing her onboard.” The director explained that the inability to insure Lohan was a factor in the decision to continue the production without the embattled actress. “We have stuck by Lindsay very patiently for a long time with a lot of love and support,” Wilder said. “Ultimately, the impossibility of insuring her — and some other issues — have made it impossible for us to go forward.” What do you think of Malin Akerman replacing Lindsay Lohan in “Inferno”?
