Fans can get in on the action by submitting their reactions to the clip in the comments section or on Twitter (using @MTVNews, hashtag #MTVFirst). During “MTV First,” the rock stars will also answer your Twitter questions and dish on the latest news. “What’s interesting about this video is that we’re really trying to capture a live kind of element with the band playing very similarly to how we would perform live,” Bennington told MTV News recently when we were lucky enough to visit the video’s set. “The fact that we’re playing broken down, kind of like we’re playing live brings that organic vibe to the video, makes for this really cool almost plugged-in look that we have.” “As the band has gotten older lyrically, my favorite [songs] over the past couple years have a lot of layers to them,” Shinoda said of the band’s evolution. “Part of that comes from the fact that all along, Chester and I, we have different life experiences and we tend to write the lyrics together, so although we’re writing one song, we’re coming at it from two different experience points. He may be writing about one thing he’s thinking and I might be writing about something completely different.” The global partnership positions “BURN IT DOWN” to reach more than 600 million households around the world via MTV’s global network of more than 60 channels and over 300 digital media properties in 150 plus territories. David Banner Drops Free Album Featuring Chris Brown, Lil Wayne

Rapper talks to Mixtape Daily about Sex, Drugs & Video Games ; LP out now as free download. By Rob Markman David Banner Photo: MTV News Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Album : David Banner’s Sex, Drugs & Video Games Key Cameo : “Amazing” (featuring Chris Brown) Essential Info : David Banner knows a thing or two about making hit records, and he promises that his latest album, Sex, Drugs & Video Games, will feature some pretty over-the-top music and some pretty notable guests as well. Chris Brown , Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg will all appear on the LP, which Banner is offering as a free online download on DatPiff.com . Sex, Drugs & Video Games, which dropped on Tuesday (May 22), is technically a free album, but Banner is accepting donations on his DavidBanner.com website to help artists exist outside of big corporations. “What I am trying to do is make the two most important parts of the musical equation … important again: That’s the artist and that’s the fans,” Banner told MTV News back in March of what he dubs the 2M1 Movement. “Corporate entities have made the artists and the fans feel like they’re not important, where without them, it all would fall.” Banner’s goals are progressive, and a good number of his LP’s collaborators operate and are successful within the major-label system. In theory DB’s distribution method could be a conflict of interest for some, but because of Banner’s relationships with the artists he works with, he doesn’t foresee any issues. “I don’t necessarily involve people in my politics. I would tell Chris all the time, Dude, I don’t necessarily want you to be connected with the things that I believe in, because I know there is a certain sacrifice with the things that I believe,” he said. “Only thing I tell people is the record is hot and it’s my album. … Whether I connect these songs to a movement or not, it doesn’t matter because if you strip the movement off of my album, it’s jammin’.” “Amazing,” Banner’s current club banger, features Chris Brown on the hook. Though the Mississippi rapper/producer is sending a message with this album, the song is just about having a good time. “Everybody that’s around me, that supports me, they know what I stand for, and then I think vicariously through me they’re actually able to express some of things that they may not want to express in their own career,” he said. Exclusive: Drake Has A ‘Good’ Feeling About Justin Bieber Collabo

Toronto MC talks up the Believe track ‘Right Here’ and details his plans to hit the studio after his Club Paradise Tour. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: MTV News Drake has a jam-packed schedule taking his Club Paradise Tour city to city, but the Toronto rap star still manages to find time to record, especially since he has a studio on his tour bus. Right after Club Paradise’s last show in Boston, Massachusetts, Drizzy will begin recording new music, possibly for his next album. “I’m really excited to start working on new music. I start like June 18,” Drake told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway when the two met backstage in Houston on May 17. “I got a studio bus out here so me and 40 started working on a couple joints the other night. Just getting warmed up,” he continued. “I did like the ‘Amen’ track for Meek [Mill] and I did ‘No Lie’ for 2Chainz.” Fans have already raved over Drizzy’s performance on both “No Lie” and “Amen,” which appears on the Philadelphia MC’s recently released Dream Chasers 2 mixtape . Still, the Young Money star has a few more collaborations that fans will hear in the coming weeks, one of them being French Montana’s “Pop That.” “I’m on French Montana’s single; me, him, Ross and Wayne, which is a crazy lineup,” Drake said. “And then on Justin Bieber ‘s record. I wrote a song for him as well.” At the time of the interview, Drake wasn’t sure of the name of the Bieber record or if the song would even be included on Justin’s upcoming Believe LP. “Awkward Justin Bieber moment,” Drizzy joked after pondering the very slim chance that he wouldn’t make the final cut. “Yeah, we’ll see. It’s a good song though; produced by Hit-Boy.” Well, Drake doesn’t have to worry. On Monday, the Biebs unveiled his Believe track list , and his fellow Canadian does appear on the song “Right Here.” We have no reason to doubt Drake’s word about “Right Here,” but we’ll all will just have to wait until June 19 when Believe is released to finally hear it. Linkin Park Were Pushed To The Brink For ‘BURN IT DOWN’ Video

Band’s new vid premieres tomorrow at 5:53 p.m. on MTV, and LP sit down for an exclusive interview right after on MTV.com! By James Montgomery Linkin Park’s Joe Hahn and Chester Bennington Photo: MTV News Throughout their careening career, Linkin Park have made no shortage of truly iconic, eye-catching music videos, the overwhelming majority of which were directed by the band’s DJ, Joe Hahn. And LP’s latest clip, “BURN IT DOWN” — which premieres on MTV and MTV.com on Thursday, May 24, at 5:53 p.m. ET as part of our “MTV First” — is both a worthy addition to that video legacy and Hahn’s directorial reel. Chock full of cutting-edge digital effects, it’s a performance video pushed to the absolute limit … to the point where, when the band bursts into flames at the end, you can’t help wondering if they didn’t just spontaneously combust. Then again, knowing Hahn, it’s entirely possible he just decided to set his bandmates on fire. After all, in previous clips, he’s nearly drowned them in tanks of water and tossed huge handfuls of dust directly in their faces. So when MTV News sat down with Hahn, Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda during the “BURN IT DOWN” premiere (you can watch the entire interview on MTV.com immediately after the video’s debut), we had to ask them about Hahn’s hardline approach to making music videos. Basically, how much of a pain in the ass is this guy to work for? As it turns out, the answer is: a huge one. “Yeah, Joe really goes for it,” Bennington laughed. “And, for whatever reason, I usually get it the worst. I’ve almost drowned, I had all this powder thrown in my face. … On this new one, I was sweating like crazy. It was intense.” Of course, as you’d probably expect, Hahn wasn’t having any of it. The way he sees it, Linkin Park owe their success to the fact that they never do anything the easy way. (Their new album, LIVING THINGS, due June 26, is testament to that.) And since his bandmates are going to complain no matter what he does, well, then he might as well push the limits as far as possible. “The reason why we’re successful is because we’re all passionate people; I have to take the director’s seat and be in-between,” he said. “And the thing I figured out is, no matter what, they’re going to complain. They could just be staring at an apple on a table and they’d be like, ‘OK … [ makes a ‘checking the watch’ gesture ].’ So you might as well make it fun.” “And get your money’s worth,” Bennington shot back. Just wait until you see “BURN IT DOWN,” because Hahn — and Linkin Park — definitely got their money’s worth with this one. A$AP Rocky Addresses Kanye West Producer’s Criticism

G.O.O.D. Music producer Mike Dean ‘was bumpin’ us before we got hot. Why stop now?’ A$AP Rocky says on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman A$AP Rocky on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News When A$AP Rocky broke through last year with “Purple Swag,” he didn’t exactly scream NYC. Instead of producing a more-recognized New York sound, Rocky and his A$AP Mob drew from Southern influences. Rock’s slowed-down, syrup-drench swag was more Houston than Harlem — then again, that was part of its appeal. Still, Rocky’s crew has had its share of critics — most recently, a veteran dirty South producer. “We need some new H Town rappers to blow up. Why the f— there all these fake ass Houston knock off artists from up North and West,” Mike Dean tweeted Sunday. “I mean rep where you are from not us. We gotta stop this sh– ASAP!!!!” “He was just talkin’ subliminal about Northern people. You gotta look at it like even Bun B embraces us, and we look up to him too,” Rocky said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. “Not only that, it’s love when we’re out in the H-Town, and on top of that, he was bumpin’ us. This Mike dude was bumpin’ us before we got hot. Why stop now?” After the initial tweets, A$AP Yams responded to Dean in defense of his crew: “@therealmikedean. I respect ur work legendary [but] u def sound ignorant. The new generation is a melting pot of influences from everywhere. Get off that old head sh–.” Dean, who now works with Kanye West and produced a number of tracks on Watch the Throne , made his name with songs for Houston rap legends Big Mello, Z-Ro and Scarface. After some back and forth, Dean tweeted that he “wasn’t speaking on anyone in particular” and thanked Yams for keeping the H-Town movement alive. Yams joined Rocky on the “RapFix” couch Wednesday, saying, “You gotta realize, we’re a whole ‘nother generation. We didn’t just grow up on our sound regionally. We didn’t just have DJ Kay Slay mixtapes. We were 8 years old when Master P and Cash Money was coming out, so we still had that as an option. If you look at all the greats, they all just a mixture of everything.” Share your opinion about Mike Dean’s comments below! Related Videos A$AP Rocky Rips Up ‘RapFix Live’ Related Artists A$AP Rocky

Singer sits down for a now-rare interview on ‘Ellen’ before release of his upcoming album Born and Raised. By Jocelyn Vena John Mayer appears on “Ellen” Photo: Warner Bros. John Mayer really is putting his “Shadow Days” behind him. After being a bit too candid in interviews back in 2010, where he frequently talked about his sex life and exes, Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson, the singer decided he needed to step back from the spotlight. With a week until he drops his new album, Born and Raised, the singer/songwriter sat with Ellen DeGeneres for a now-rare interview airing Tuesday. video platform video management video solutions video player “It was a very strange time and it sort of rocketed me into adulthood. It was a violent crash into being an adult,” Mayer told DeGeneres of his “TMI” era, per Usmagazine.com . “For a couple of years, it was just figuring it all out, and I’m glad I actually stayed out of the spotlight. Because I think back then I would’ve said, ‘Give me two weeks or let me get out and do ‘Ellen’ and let me explain myself.’ It was like, ‘No, idiot. Go away and be 33 and 34 instead of 28 for the fourth year.’ ” He added that he needed a break from the publicity and “had to go home for a minute… I just sort of lost my head for a little while.” With a new album on the horizon, Mayer is also dealing with some lingering vocal-cord issues, which caused him to cancel his spring tour and scale back on album promotion. “They cut this thing out of your throat and then they inject your vocal cords with Botox, which freezes your vocal cords so that this thing can heal without smacking up against the other side. I just need more Botox next time,” he explained. “It’s not a health concern whatsoever, but it has taken me out of singing. I tried to beat it the first time and couldn’t.” Related Artists John Mayer

50 Cent And DJ Drama Craft Street Music For Lost Tape

‘We actually centered this concept with an idea we created in 2007,’ Fif tells Mixtape Daily of latest in Gangsta Grillz series. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ade Mangum 50 Cent and DJ Drama’s Lost Tape Photo: G-Unit Main Pick Headliner : 50 Cent and DJ Drama Representing : Queens, New York Mixtape : The Lost Tape Real Spit : When it comes to hip-hop’s increasingly artist-centered mixtape culture, there are no bigger figures than 50 Cent and DJ Drama. On the artist side, Fif changed the way rappers approached the tape game with releases like 50 Cent Is the Future and No Mercy, No Fear, hijacking other rapper’s instrumentals and making them his own. On the DJ side, Drama created the pivotal Gangsta Grillz series, crafting unforgettable tapes for the likes of T.I., Young Jeezy and Fabolous. On Tuesday (May 22), the two mixtape giants united on Gangsta Grillz: The Lost Tape, and fans can download the release on DatPiff and Thisis50.com . “50 is mixtapes. When you think about the mixtape game, you have to credit this man right here,” DJ Drama told Mixtape Daily. “He makes what I consider quality street music. I almost feel like the tape didn’t happen in ’07 because it was meant to happen now.” 50 joked that he was bullied to do the tape by Drama, who represents Atlanta. “It was pressure, it was pressure; I was forced. The boys from the south got big on us. So they came down here to the north and said, ‘Look, man, you gotta roll with Rush,’ ” he said with a smirk. “I fully cooperated and now we got Gangsta Grillz.” Drama and Fif aren’t the only big names on The Lost Tape, though: Eminem makes a brief cameo on “Murder One.” “Ayo Fif, I was thinking, you should go back to doin’ the sh– you used to do,” Em says on an intro to the menacing track where the G-Unit general promises death to his enemies. “Silence, it’s the return of the tyrant/ See him through my third eye with both closed eyelids/ Stand closer to the homey you gonna die with/ Flames come up out the muzzle on the sh– that I spit,” 50 rhymes. In the early aughts, 50 built his reputation by remixing rap songs and adding his own high-powered verses to the familiar hits. He revisits the trend with “Riot” remix , a new take on 2 Chainz’s street banger. On “OJ,” 50 teams with Kidd Kidd, his new signee from New Orleans. The piano-laced track finds Fif and his prot

Ray J Hospitalized For Exhaustion After Las Vegas Trip

Rep says hospitalization is unrelated to run-in with Whitney Houston’s family at the Billboard Music Awards. By Nadeska Alexis Ray J Photo: Getty Images When Ray J attended the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday night, he reportedly had a tense run-in with Whitney Houston’s family. The following morning, he was hospitalized for exhaustion. A representative for Ray J told CNN that he was rushed to the hospital Monday to be treated for exhaustion and jet lag after returning from a 32-hour business trip to China, where he performed a show and attended meetings. The singer apparently made a four-hour drive to Las Vegas upon his return to host a party for Prince Reigns Hair Serum, and he was later found in his hotel room “extremely disoriented” and “out of it.” Ray J’s rep also made sure to point out that his hospitalization was not related to an incident that took place at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night. Ray J, who dated Whitney Houston on and off for several years, was seated in the same section as the late singer’s family , which sparked trouble. Whitney’s sister-in-law Patricia Houston asked security to forcibly remove Ray J from the section, but he refused. “Pat ruined what was a great opportunity to honor the woman who I loved,” Ray J said later. There’s been no word yet on when Ray J will be released from the hospital. Since Whitney Houston’s death, he has been outspoken about his grief, admitting, “I really miss my friend, you know, I really do. I’m still hurting.” On Sunday night, Houston was honored with Billboard ‘s Millennium Award, which her daughter Bobbi Kristina accepted on her behalf , thanking fans for their support. Laurieann Gibson Plots ‘Super Dope’ Music Career With ‘Last Chance’

Onetime Lady Gaga collaborator talks to MTV News about how she went from behind the scenes to center stage. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Laurieann Gibson Photo: Getty Images Laurieann Gibson has worked with artists like onetime muse Lady Gaga and current inspiration Nicki Minaj , helping the pop princesses craft stage spectacles and killer dance routines. But, having spent the last chapter of her career shaping the careers of other artists, the former Fly Girl feels now is the time for her to move from behind the shadows and kick-start her own music career. “When I began to choreograph and find my way pulling other artists’ dreams out and changing music in a visual way, there was still a part of me that had something more to say,” she told MTV News about working on her solo album. “There was still a desire to rock a stage and ultimately perform the eight count of my dream, but there was a lot of insecurity there.” It wasn’t until last year, however, that she found the strength to hit the studio for this album. And she channeled all of those feelings into her music, including her lead single, the dance-floor anthem “Last Chance.” “I put that into the album, into the lyrical content and I’m really proud of what is coming out of the studio,” she said. Gibson said she started working on the album after wrapping up her E! show “Born to Dance” and directing Gaga’s video for “Yo

Exclusive: 2 Chainz Explains ‘Brass Knuckles’ Arrest

Rapper tells MTV News police ‘misconstrued’ his four-finger ring as a weapon. By Rob Markman 2 Chainz Photo: MTV News It’s no secret 2 Chainz loves his jewelry, and while the Atlanta rapper is known to start a riot or two with his raps, he never thought his expensive trinkets would cause such a ruckus. Earlier Tuesday (May 22), 2 Chainz was arrested In New York’s LaGuardia Airport after officials found what they described as “brass knuckles” in his luggage, but it was nothing more than a four-finger ring, the rapper said. “They tried to assassinate my character, they tried to assassinate my swag,” 2 Chainz told MTV News in an exclusive telephone interview. “It was just a negative dilemma earlier where someone misconstrued a piece of jewelry for a weapon and stuff.” Police took Chainz into custody around 1:45 p.m. ET and charged him with misdemeanor possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. “The knuckles were in his personal bag and sounded the alarm,” an officer told MTV News on Tuesday. “I do exclusive pieces. My pieces are actual conversation pieces, like, literally. When you see my gold, when you see my stuff, it’s something to conversate about,” Deuce explained. “People weren’t doing four-finger rings and all that. I just like to set myself apart, so I definitely wasn’t trying to beat nobody up on the airplane or nothing.” The rapper was on his way to perform at a North Carolina concert, and when he phoned MTV from New York’s Teterboro Airport, he estimated that he spent approximately eight to nine hours behind bars. 2 Chainz eventually pleaded guilty to a lesser, unspecified charge but never got his jewels back. “Yeah, they took it from me, they took the Louis [Vuitton] case that I actually keep the jewelry in, they took that. I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Me just trying to explain it was getting too frustrating, me just trying to explain my occupation and then when they finally got to the jail and everybody knew who I was, then they started calling their kids and putting me on the phone with their kids. It was like a weird experience.” Though he was upset about the situation, 2 Chainz chose to focus on the positive. His debut album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, is set to drop August 14, he is currently on tour with Drake, and he’s involved with Respect My Vote, an initiative that encourages young people to participate in the voting process. Now, 2 Chainz hopes to be able to put the arrest behind him. “I don’t find that intriguing. You’re supposed to make your mistakes during adolescence and use these times right here to kinda fix some of the things you did in the past, so with me I’m doing Respect My Vote, I’m doing all kind of things to try to have some positive news.” Related Artists 2 Chainz
