Petey Pablo Arrested At North Carolina Airport

Airport security found a weapon in the rapper’s luggage when he was reportedly on his way to VMAs. By Mawuse Ziegbe Petey Pablo (file) Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage Petey Pablo was arrested on Saturday (September 11) in North Carolina for allegedly trying to bring a weapon onto a flight. According to local news website WRAL.com , the rapper was arrested at around 6 a.m. at Raleigh-Durham International Airport after airport security found a Smith & Wesson 639 in his carry-on luggage. He was reportedly attempting to board a flight to Los Angeles for Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. The MC (born Moses Barrett III) was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. Pablo posted $50,000 bail and has a court date on Monday. The rapper reportedly gave out his CDs to jailers before he left. The arrest isn’t the rapper’s first run-in with the law. Before launching his music career, Pablo served six years of a 14-year prison sentence for selling drugs. Known for high-energy hits like “Freek-A-Leek,” Pablo kicked off a successful music career with the help of the Timbaland-produced “Raise Up” in 2001. His debut LP, Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Album, and the follow-up, Diary of a Sinner: 2nd Entry, debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 in 2004. The rapper also guested on Ciara’s debut single, “Goodies.” In 2005, Pablo teamed up with Death Row honcho Suge Knight for the album Same Eyez on Me. The Southern hitmaker’s partnership with the West Coast mogul was unexpected, but Pablo explained his views about their working relationship in an interview that year with MTV News. “If you accept what life is supposed to be, then there’s things that’ll happen in your life that you won’t fully understand until later on in life. But when the understanding comes at the end of the day, everything that you ever had questions about will be no more,” Pablo said. “What God put together, let no man take it apart.” Related Artists Petey Pablo

Travie McCoy Says He’s ‘Stoked’ For Eminem’s VMAs Set

‘Billionaire’ MC, who’ll hit the stage with house artist deadmau5, is most excited to see Em’s opening performance. By Kelley L. Carter Travie McCoy Photo: MTV News While Travie McCoy fans are no doubt excited to see him perform at the VMAs, we wondered, who does he most want to see perform at the awards show on Sunday? “Definitely stoked to see Eminem ,” McCoy told MTV News of Slim Shady, the show’s opener. “I’m really excited to also see what deadmau5 is doing. I know what I’m doing with him, but I’m excited to see what he’s doing with everyone else.” Deadmau5, a house music icon , is the house artist for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards . He follows performers like Wale, Mark Ronson, Travis Barker and the late DJ AM, all of whom kept the pace of the awards show going between musical acts. Twenty-eight-year-old Toronto native deadmau5 (born Joel Zimmerman) is a hotly anticipated act at the show this year, as one of the most in-demand producers on the house music scene. “Dance wasn’t always considered pop, and people like Lady Gaga and [David] Guetta and those guys really brought it out to the commercial market,” deadmau5 said about bringing his sound to the masses. “I’m just getting a lot more fans and God bless it, and that’s the goal of being an artist is to get yourself heard by any means possible.” Other 2010 VMA performers include Eminem, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, B.o.B, Drake, Linkin Park, Usher, Paramore and Florence and the Machine, as well as McCoy, Jason Der

Lady Gaga, Chelsea Handler Have VMA Fan In Natasha Bedingfield

Bedingfield sings the praises of friend Handler and former tourmate Gaga. By Jocelyn Vena Natasha Bedingfield Photo: MTV News When the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards kick off on Sunday, “Unwritten,” singer Natasha Bedingfield will be rooting for two of her pals, nominee Lady Gaga and VMA host Chelsea Handler . Bedingfield isn’t placing any bets on how many Moonmen the 13-time nominated Gaga will take home, but she says her former tourmate deserves her latest accolades. “I was on tour with Lady Gaga two years ago, and I got to know her a bit, and she’s just fantastic. So, I hope that she wins for one of them, at least, ’cause that’s cool,” Bedingfield told MTV News at the VMA Radio Forum on Friday. “She was opening for me and New Kids on the Block on the road. It was awesome! We were just two girls going around going to different states in America.” While Gaga will certainly have everyone talking by the water cooler on Monday, Bedingfield thinks that Handler will have everyone hoping for a return performance at next year’s show. “[Chelsea] will have to have a lot of outfits too! I love her so much. She’s going to be amazing. She’ll probably be the best one you guys have ever had I think,” Bedingfield said. “She’s just amazing. I love her, and she’s always very honest, and I appreciate that, because there’s always a lot of people who kiss your ass all the time in this business. And it’s just nice to be with someone you just feel comfortable with and you know they’re not going to blow smoke.” So, what is it like to be friends with the sassy comedian? “She’s funny. She lets other people be funny. I think that’s how you can tell someone is, like, comfortable with themselves,” she said. “They don’t mind people being funny and them being quiet, and sometimes she’ll be the funny one.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Chris Brown Joins N.E.R.D. For Fashion’s Night Out Show

Singer pop-locks during the band’s outdoor NYC performance. By Mawuse Ziegbe Chris Brown and Pharrell Williams (file) Photo: Frank Micelotta/Getty Images New York’s Fashion’s Night Out celebrations Friday night promised a city-wide extravaganza of major style and star power. Judging by N.E.R.D.’s outdoor performance, the evening did not disappoint. A crowd of the band’s fans and fashion revelers swarmed the West Broadway flagship of the Billionaire Boys Club brand, which is owned by N.E.R.D. frontman Pharrell Williams. Flanked by a live band and a few amped-up dancers, the crew ripped through high-energy jams to a sea of New Yorkers wielding cameraphones. Sporting an army green Billionaire Boys Club jacket and green cap, Williams rocked their latest single “Party People,” as Brown, also sporting a green shirt and shorts with a military vibe, busted out some impromptu pop-locking. The ban also tore through their saucy debut single “Lapdance.” Singer and producer Ryan Leslie, and Japanese designer and Williams cohort Nigo also stopped by the event. Earlier this year in a sit-down with MTV News, Williams broke down the energy fans can expect at their live shows. “Get your stretches in — the EMTs are always on the side, because people pull muscles and stuff. And not bragging at all, I’m just telling you, dude — fat, black, white, skinny, gay, straight, I don’t know how they treat you elsewhere at their shows, I don’t know how they treat you in streets, [but] I know how you feel when you’re going to leave that N.E.R.D show,” Williams said. “And trust me, when they ask you what it was like, and could you describe it, could you ever put it into words — you’re going to say, ‘Nothing.’ ” Did you go to any Fashion’s Night Out events? Kanye West Drops ‘G.O.O.D. Friday’

Kid Cudi, Common, Big Sean, Pusha T and Charlie Wilson are all featured on new track. By Shaheem Reid Kanye West Photo: Gabriela Maj/ Getty Images They still haven’t made an official announcement, but for all intents and purposes, can we just acknowledge that Pusha T is at least part of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music family? Several weeks ago, Push danced around the subject , saying, “I mean, you know, I been to Hawaii. Hawaii is a nice place. Good music is made down there, ya know? So, yeah, I was there. I can’t say too much about that. I think everybody’s gonna be in for a big surprise. A very big surprise.” On Friday (September 10), Mr. West dropped the latest offering from his G.O.O.D. Friday movement, also called “G.O.O.D Friday.” The song features Big Sean, Kid Cudi, Common, Charlie Wilson and … Pusha T. “As ‘Ye flips the piano, the mood swings like the change of a channel,” Pusha raps on the record. “He’s heating up like they wrapped him in flannel. Selling kilos through your iPod Nano.” Cudi sings, “I know the city getting ready for me,” while Common is also right in pocket with lyrics such as: “I’m in thinker mode/ Eyes load, I let the sky hold the thoughts.” Common and West exchange bars at the beginning. Big Sean talks about his exploits with some fast women. Aside from the new song, there was also that Pharrell co-sign of Push heading to ‘Ye’s label . “I think that’s gonna be amazing,” Pharrell said. “[Pusha] had been working with ‘Ye. I told him, ‘You should do that.’ We made a lot of great records together, and we’ll continue to make great records. I want him to grow and get other experiences out in the world. He’s gotta figure that out. He’s gotta go out there and see it. Make no mistake, lyrically, that kid is one of the greats — him and his brother. Lyrically, those guys are really serious. They’re well-respected by all of the good dudes. Jay-Z loves them, T.I., Jeezy loves them. All of your favorite rappers, they appreciate a Pusha line or a Malice line. They do. I’m saying with respect for all those artists — I work with those artists. I know the conversations we had. They like what they do. It’s been a long time coming for Pusha and what it is he’s trying to do. He’s gonna get it. And Malice too.” Oh, and Kanye shouted Pusha out onstage during his remarkable Rosewood private show in New York last month. Enough evidence for you? Linkin Park Will Take Over An L.A. Landmark For VMAs

We can’t reveal exactly where they’ll perform ‘The Catalyst,’ but here are some clues. By James Montgomery Linkin Park Photo: Warner Bros. The fact that Linkin Park are performing their brand-new single “The Catalyst” at the Video Music Awards isn’t a secret anymore, but just where they’ll be performing it is … and fans won’t find out until they tune in to the show on Sunday night. Here’s what we can reveal: Since LP will be performing the song for the first time on TV, and since the song itself is so positively ginormous, they’ve decided on a location that’s certifiably epic. And given the fact that the VMAs are being held in Los Angeles, producers — and the band — decided to take over a thoroughly iconic space. And … well, that’s about all we can tell you right now. “In previous years, we had such a terrific themes. Last year, we were in New York, and so there was a New York, ‘West Side Story’ through line to the show,” VMA executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic told MTV News. “So obviously, we wanted to do the same thing in LA. And we’re looking back towards another era — in the architecture of set and some of the performances — we’re thinking of iconic films from the ’50s and youth culture, and all of a sudden, this location became first and foremost.” Having decided on a spot, the VMA brain trust took the idea to Linkin Park, who signed off without a second thought. After all, they know the location well. “They were so excited, being an L.A. band, to be able to do a performance in a location like this,” Ignjatovic said. “It’s such a significant location to anyone who lives in Hollywood and Los Angeles. And we honestly can’t believe we got it.” With a location that matches the soaring soundscapes of “The Catalyst,” Ignjatovic and his crew set about finding an appropriately huge way to capture it all. Which, of course, meant plenty of eye-popping aerial shots. “It’s an epic song and an epic location, so, in true Hollywood cinematic style, you want to have breathtaking aerial shots,” Ignjatovic said. “The whole idea is scale and beautiful visuals. It fits perfectly with the song. It’s going to be awesome, trust me.” Where would you want to see Linkin Park perform “The Catalyst”? Share your ideas in the comments below. The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. J. Cole To Open Eminem/Jay-Z New York Concerts

Roc Nation MC will warm up Home and Home Tour crowds. By Mawuse Ziegbe J. Cole Photo: C. Flanigan/FilmMagic One of Jay-Z’s promising Roc Nation signees will warm up the crowd when Hov and Eminem’s Home and Home Tour hits NYC. Fayetteville, North Carolina, MC J. Cole will open for the hip-hop gods when their joint show heads to Yankee Stadium next week, according to RapRadar.com . The Warm Up mixtape rapper will open the show along with VMA nominee B.o.B, who worked his magic at the tour’s Detroit outings. Upstart MC J. Cole is the latest addition to a tour lineup that has been heavy on historic appearances from rap greats. Inimitable beatmaster and hip-hop pioneer Dr. Dre, G-Unit boss 50 Cent and Toronto star Drake all surprised thousands of fans at Jigga and Shady’s Comerica Park shows last week. The opening slot is another milestone in what has shaped up to be a major year for Cole. After becoming the first artist to ink a deal with Jay’s Roc Nation imprint and stepping out on tour with the rock-star MC last year , Cole was dubbed a Freshman ’10 rapper by XXL magazine in March . The same month, the MC headlined his first NYC show, ably satisfying the city’s finicky music fans. In July, he was a top-five finalist for MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” and can be heard on the smoky hit R&B single “All I Want Is You” from fellow newcomer Miguel. Cole’s single “Who Dat” has hit the airwaves, and the rising lyricist told MTV News earlier this year that he’s checking out the successful blueprint his mentor Jay established when it comes to rolling out his debut LP. “You might have an incredible single or an incredible song, and if you just set it up the wrong way, it won’t go as far as it could’ve went,” he said. “I feel like Jay’s last album had the perfect setup, single-wise. So it’s really about finding the right setup, and then from there, it’s up to the people to decide.” Before Eminem heads to New York, he’ll be opening the 2010 VMAs on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
