Rihanna Set To Premiere ‘Only Girl (In The World)’

New single, produced by Stargate, will premiere Tuesday on RyanSeacrest.com. By James Dinh Rihanna Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ WireImage Rihanna may be in the midst of filming “Battleship,” her Hollywood debut, but that doesn’t mean that the pop star won’t be focusing on her music. Just less than a year after the release of her last album, Rated R, the singer is already set to debut a new single called “Only Girl (In the World)” from her fifth studio album. The song, which was produced by Stargate, will premiere on Tuesday (September 7) on RyanSeacrest.com at 3 a.m. PT/6 a.m. ET. This isn’t the first time the Barbadian songstress has worked with the Norwegian producing team. She has collaborated with the duo on earlier hits including “Please Don’t Stop the Music,” “Hate That I Love You” and, most recently, “Rude Boy.” Just days after joining Twitter, the singer hinted at the single in a tweet directed at Seacrest. “@RyanSeacrest Soon! In less than 10 dayz ima send u sumn special, and ur gonna play it OVER and OVER, like I’m the only girl in the world!” she said. In addition to Stargate, the singer has also been working with Sean Garrett. Back in June, the producer spoke to MTV News about the new album, which he said is going to be more uplifting than the darker material on Rated R. “I can definitely say that her album is definitely gonna be way more exciting, happy,” Garrett told MTV News. “I hope she doesn’t mind me saying this. I love Rihanna. She’s fun, she’s like a sister, and I tend to think she doesn’t really take herself too seriously. And I think that’s what this album is gonna be about.” While not much else is known about the project, Rihanna has also reportedly recorded a song called “Cheers,” with production by the Runners. Kings Of Leon Release Come Around Sundown Art, Track Listing

First single, ‘Radioactive,’ will premiere on band’s website on Wednesday. By Kyle Anderson Kings of Leon Photo: Gareth Cattermole/ Getty Images Though they faced scathing reviews from a pack of pigeons in St. Louis a few weeks ago, most of the rest of the rock world is eagerly awaiting the fifth album from Kings of Leon . The wait is finally coming to an end, as Come Around Sundown is set to drop on October 19 , with the first taste — a single called “Radioactive” — coming out next week. “Radioactive” will see its video premiere on Kings of Leon’s official website on Wednesday, September 8. It will then move to radio on Monday, September 13, and to iTunes the next day. As with most high-profile rock releases, two versions will be made available: the standard album as well as a deluxe edition that will include bonus tracks. Come Around Sundown contains 13 tracks, several of which have been road-tested by the band during its summer tour. In keeping with tradition, the new tunes unveiled on the tour combine bluesy, hard-rocking sensibilities with just the right amount of Americana twang (especially “Mary,” which has quickly become a live staple). Meanwhile, the new single “Radioactive” is a fantastically kinetic uptempo rocker that features a giant sing-along chorus. In addition to the track listing and single release dates, Kings of Leon also released the cover art to Come Around Sundown. It features a photo of a small island with a pair of palm trees at sunset. Shot from the sea, it’s a warm, wistful image that serves the title of the album extremely well. Kings of Leon’s summer tour continues through September 25, when they will make up the Missouri show that they had to cut short because of pigeon droppings. Related Artists Kings Of Leon

Abandoned Chairs Get an Artistic Home

Images from abandonedchairsblogspot.com : Queen West There is something so forlorn and sad about a chair abandoned on the roadside. Innocent and sometimes beautiful, it is hard to resist taking them home and giving them a reason to live again. Some artists have been having the same problem. Moira Stevenson had filled up her Toronto front porch with rescued chairs until she had no more room. Her solution was photography: she photographs them before in their naked state. Eminem, Jay-Z Fans Travel Across U.S. For Detroit Concert

‘You’ll never see anything like it again,’ one fan says of hip-hop legends’ joint show. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Eminem and Jay-Z (file) Photo: Getty Images Very rarely do two hip-hop titans of Eminem and Jay-Z’s caliber team up to mount a series of stadium shows for their legions of rabid fans. Still, it’s astonishing to see the lengths that Shady and Hov heads would go to see the pair onstage. Their fans crisscrossed the country to see the duo light up the stage at Comerica Park in Em’s hometown of Detroit. The Thursday (September 2) event is the first stop on the duo’s Home and Home Tour and their followers showed major support; braving a possible downpour and donning Jay and Em memorabilia. “We’re all psyched,” said one fan who had rolled to the concert with three other homies. “How many times do you get to see Eminem play in his [hometown of] Detroit?” The fan, sporting a Jigga/Eminem T-shirt, added that the outing was really special because it was the first live show he’d attended. “The fact that it’s Eminem and Jay-Z just helps a lot.” Kipper revealed that he and his buddy J.T. traveled from Green Bay, Wisconsin, to take in the show. “I … came down to [see] something different, something big. This is the biggest concert of the year,” he marveled. “You’ll never see anything like it again.” Two of the rappers’ most dedicated fans not only crossed state lines to catch the Comerica show but even employed their passports, trekking from Ottawa, Canada, for the collabo show. “I really hope Eminem plays ‘Going Through Changes’ [from Recovery ]. I really like that song,” said Karen who, along with her friend, had fashioned homemade tees emblazoned with lyrics from The Eminem Show ‘s “Superman” and two Jay-Z’s smashes, “Run This Town” and “99 Problems.” Another fan, Jay, who traveled from Pittsburgh, was happy that Em was giving back to his hometown in the form of a major musical event. “He should show the love from where he came from. They helped him to get where he’s at. The least [he] could do is put on a big-bang show for ’em [and] show some respect,” he said. He added that he was checking out the show to see some of the game’s most talented MCs show their skills. “I mean, the best two lyricists to ever do it [are performing]. So, I’m trying to come and get some knowledge real quick.” Not even bad weather could stop fans from seeing the Grammy-winning legends hit the stage. “I’m just so pumped to see it,” “D” said. “I’ll see it in the rain, I don’t care.” One concertgoer, who donned a tank top that read “#1 Fan,” had a personal message for Shady: “Eminem if you ever see this, my name is Lindsay and I go to Michigan State and you should totally call me.” Are you going to see Jay-Z and Eminem in concert? Nicki Minaj Says Pink Friday Is Her ‘Heart And Soul’

The Barbie promises debut LP will deliver so ‘every woman in this world can understand it,’ in Paper magazine. By James Dinh Nicki Minaj in “Paper” magazine Photo: Paper magazine Having collaborated with everyone from Trey Songz to Jay-Z, Young Money darling Nicki Minaj has already made a name for herself, even before dropping an album. Minaj recognizes how fortunate her journey to stardom has been, and in the September issue of Paper magazine, she opens up about her success and what her upcoming debut, Pink Friday, will represent. “This album is my heart and soul,” the rapper told the magazine. “This is me explaining every single relationship that I’ve ever been in and explaining it in a way that every woman in this world can understand it.” The LP, set for a November 23 release, will likely be saturated with Minaj’s colorful rap flow, which she explained that she learned during school. “The line was, ‘Tis monstrous’ — period. And the second line was, ‘Iago, who done it’ — question mark. Then we read it without punctuation. ‘Tis monstrous Iago who done it,” which basically gives the story away,” she recalled of an assignment reading Shakespeare’s “Othello.” “The fact that punctuation can change what you’re saying, I guess that’s why I love hip-hop — being able to say the same thing but it meaning a different thing.” But the Harajuku Barbie admitted that not everyone was always a fan of her signature rap style. “My first manager told me, ‘Stop playing around with your words, stop being funny, nobody’s going to take you seriously. You shouldn’t sound smart.’ I don’t know. I just started saying things,” Minaj said. Her unique style has of course helped fuel her rise, making her hip hop’s leading lady. And Minaj’s MTV VMA nomination for Best New Artist only highlights that fact. (She’ll go head-to-head with artists like Ke$ha and Justin Bieber in the category.) “Three years ago all my underground hip-hop heads thought I was crazy when I said this would happen but … it will happen,” she predicted. “I’m going to be in Tokyo, Paris — I’m going to go everywhere you can imagine. I’m going to own London, I mean, the sky’s the limit, and you watch what I say, I refuse to lose. I don’t know how to lose.” What do you think of Nicki’s success so far? Let us know in the comments! Chelsea Handler Schools Staffers On Lady Gaga Pronunciation

‘It’s [Lady] Guh-GAW,’ Handler says behind the scenes of her VMA promo. By Mawuse Ziegbe Chelsea Handler Photo: Timothy White Chelsea Handler is hard at work preparing for her gig as host of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , a job that includes making sure that there are no slip-ups when it comes to shouting out oddly named pop stars. So, when the cameras went behind the scenes at the funnywoman’s VMA promo shoot, Handler was found reprimanding her staff about the proper ways to announce some of this year’s nominees . “I am excited to see Lady Guh-GAW,” Handler declared, while seated at the head of her staffers table. When someone on her team chimes in with “It’s Gaga,” the way that, well, the whole world pronounces it, the “Chelsea Lately” host jokingly corrected the supposed flub. “No, it’s Guh-GAW,” Handler deadpanned. “Everyone pronounces it wrong.” The comedienne pointed out that another blonde hitmaker, Ke$sha, has endured mass mispronunciation of her uniquely spelled moniker. “Just like Keh-dollar-sign-hah pronounced that way,” Handler said. “She doesn’t want you to say it the other way. I met her.” With the big night just a couple weeks away and the pressure on to deliver another live two-hour event packed with oh-no-they-didn’t moments, the cameras caught Handler and her team engaged in intense brainstorming sessions. And the crew brought in a master of mayhem to help ideate television magic: Kid Rock. “You can go down on Snooki in the hot tub that they have on the ‘Jersey Shore,’ ” Handler suggested to Rock. Lucky for the Handler, the Detroit rap-rocker seemed down for anything. “After a couple fifths of whiskey I’ll go either way. Hell, after a fifth of whiskey I’d have sex with you.” Handler, who has experienced her fair share of passes from popular lyricists , served up a demure reply to the open invitation for a drunken hookup. “Thank you,” Handler responded. What are you expecting from Chelsea Handler as host of the VMAs? Let us know in the comments below! The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12. Usher’s VMA-Nominated ‘OMG’ Inspired By ’80s Sci-Fi Character

Director Anthony Mandler wanted to let R&B superstar take viewers “on a journey, not a ride.” By Jayson Rodriguez Usher in “OMG” For a video as forward thinking as Usher’s “OMG” — with its laser beams and light flashes — director Anthony Mandler actually looked back for inspiration. “The original idea was kind of Max Headroom,” Mandler told MTV News, citing the animated science-fiction character from ’80s British TV. “That’s where it came from — the TV flickering on and there’s this character. We just wanted to bring it up to date.” “Max Headroom was always in his room,” he continued, “this unidentifiable room, ’80s shapes. I used that for inspiration.” The formula worked: “OMG” is among the Best Male Video nominees for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The clip is up against Drake’s “Find Your Love,” Jason Derulo’s “In My Head,” Eminem’s “Not Afraid” and B.o.B.’s “Airplanes.” Mandler is a multiple nominee, having also helmed Drake’s video. “OMG” is the first time Usher and Mandler — who’s worked with Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, and Rihanna — collaborated on a project. Usher said he knew the video would be a challenge and wanted to make sure the director was up to the task. “When I first shot the song to him, I was like, ‘Are you sure you’re gonna be able to catch this one?’ And he said, ‘I got it,'” Usher explained. “We wanted to bring into my world,” he continued. “Obviously, the international sound and look and feel has already been set, but we wanted to do something theatrical, fun and energetic to show us working off of each other and playing off of each other as artists, but the cinematography would be artistic and incredible.” Mandler described the visuals as “Hitchcock-ian.” Though the style of the shot was important to the director, he had a simpler goal in mind: to capture Usher in his element. He said the key to the clip was simply letting Usher’s talent take over. “The concept was to create a world where we put Usher in a space where he does what I think he does better than anyone else in the world, which is perform at a level and magnitude of a superstar and take us, the viewer, whether audible or visually, on a journey, not a ride,” the director said. “And, in that, I wanted to create an unpredictability, so one set leads to another and another, and you never know what’s gonna happen. Along the way, Usher becomes our guide. We’re so focused on him, we don’t notice the change. The thing is unfolding little by little, and you can’t quite see far enough ahead to know what’s gonna come next.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. T.I.’s Wife, Tiny, Tweets After Arrest

ATL rapper’s spouse thanks supporters, as 50 Cent gives the couple his two cents on Twitter as well. By Mawuse Ziegbe Tiny and T.I. Photo: Eugene Gologursky/ Getty Images After getting arrested with her husband, T.I. , on Wednesday night for possession of a controlled substance, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle took to Twitter to thank fans for the e-support. “Jus wanted 2say thank u 2every1 dats been leaving encouraging msgs & prayers!” Tiny tweeted on Thursday (September 2). “We love u guys:) going 2bed now! So glad 2b n a nice clean bed.” Tiny and her new hubby were picked up in Los Angeles after police stopped T.I. (born Clifford Harris Jr.) around 10:30 p.m. for making an illegal U-turn in his Maybach, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. When the officers approached the vehicle, they apparently smelled the scent of marijuana wafting from the car and then searched the passengers and the automobile. Police found an unspecified number of pills that “resembled ecstasy.” T.I. and Tiny were not traveling alone but the Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said the other passengers in the car were not charged with a crime. The duo posted $10,000 bail each and were released early Thursday morning. They are due in court on September 3. Other celebs have weighed in on the alleged drug bust as well. 50 Cent suggested that Tiny take the fall for Tip, who was released from prison earlier this year after completing a jail bid stemming from weapons charges. “Man TI and tiny done got picked up agin for methamphetmines and ecstacy dam man,” 50 tweeted . “Tiny gotta take that charge. Say it was yours, Baby.” Frequent T.I. collaborator DJ Drama did not directly reference the arrests, but did tweet, “So I wake up to the news …. damn…” The incident comes just days after T.I. kicked off the week with the #1 movie in the country, “Takers,” a film he worked on as both a star and a producer . In addition, the ATL MC’s latest single, “Pledge Allegiance to the Swag,” surfaced on the Web on Wednesday. Related Photos T.I. And Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle Related Artists T.I.

Justin Bieber Fans Say They’ll Cast VMA Votes ‘Every Single Day’

‘Nobody stands a chance against him,’ one die-hard Belieber says of Best New Artist nominee. By Rya Backer Justin Bieber Photo: Mark Von Holden/ Getty Images Justin Bieber has had a landmark year, earning among other accolades a friendship with Kim Kardashian , a #1 album, a sold-out tour and a multitude of hits. And now, in addition to performing at the 2010 Video Music Awards on September 12, he’s also been nominated for Best New Artist for “Baby.” MTV News hit Madison Square Garden before Bieber’s sell-out gig on Tuesday and asked Bieber’s fans about his chances of winning. The Beliebers, who are famous — and at times infamous — for their rabid devotion, not surprisingly, predicted very little competition for their hero from his fellow nominees, including chart-toppers Ke$sha and Nicki Minaj. Because the Best New Artist is decided by the public, Bieber’s fans said they’ll see to it that he takes home his Moonman. “Most of the fans that he has are really big fans, so if they vote for him, they’ll vote for him every single day,” Bailey Solomons explained. Solomons, along with two friends, did not have tickets for the MSG show, but dressed up in their best Bieber garb hoping to be invited in. Another fan, Alexa Summerlin, affirmed Bailey’s sentiment, saying, “Justin has a big fanbase and the people are gonna vote for him.” “Nobody stands a chance against him, if they did, I would be so shocked,” said Taylor Carro, a fan who plans on voting before the September 12 deadline. Other fans had a simpler argument for why Bieber stands to pick up the award. “He’s amazing and everyone loves him!” Diana Rossi gushed. “All the teenagers and kids love him,” Danicka Przchowski added. Be sure to catch the Video Music Awards September 12 to see if Bieber’s fans got out the vote!
