Demi Lovato Says Frankie Jonas Has ‘Swag Like Justin Bieber’

‘He’s the biggest rock star of all of them,’ Lovato says of the youngest JoBro. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News When fans tune in to “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” this Friday, they may be surprised to see that the fourth Jonas brother, 9-year-old Frankie, has a part in the sequel to the hit 2008 flick “Camp Rock.” And co-star Demi Lovato says that the kid has some swagger. “He’s the biggest rock star of all of them,” she told MTV News. “He’s got swag like Justin Bieber and he rocks out like Mick Jagger, so he’s kind of a combination of the two. He’s kind of like the ultimate rock star. Watch out, Justin Timberlake!” While he may be as cool as Bieber, the Bonus Jonas says that of all his brothers, he most relates to Joe . “We never bully. We never even fight. We just have little bickers,” he said. “I’m most like Joe because I’ve been a role model with him ever since we lived in Wyckoff, New Jersey.” And much like Joe, Frankie would love a career in Hollywood. “I would like to pursue my acting career and do a little music in the middle,” he explained. Having now starred in “Camp Rock 2,” lent his voice to “Ponyo” and made appearances on “JONAS,” it seems Frankie is well on his way to catching up with his brothers in the fame department. However, he still needs some encouraging words from his superstar brothers to keep him focused on his way to the top. “I’m feeling great because it’s awesome [to be here]. It’s my first live action [film] and to have my brothers with me is way more exciting because they make you feel more comfortable,” he explained, adding that they’ve given him some great advice. “They’ve given me a great one that my dad gave to them and they passed on to me during the filming of ‘Camp Rock.’ It says, ‘Live like you’re at the bottom, even if you’re at the top,’ ” he explained. “Remember where you came from.” Are you looking forward to seeing Frankie and his brothers in “Camp Rock 2” on Friday? Nicki Minaj And Drake End Twitter Marriage

‘My husband Drake and I have decided to have our marriage annulled,’ Minaj tweets. By Mawuse Ziegbe Drake and Nicki Minaj Photo: Getty Images Well, that was fast. Hip-hop’s favorite e-spouses, Nicki Minaj and Drake, are no longer together. Only a day after announcing their union on the social-networking site , Minaj tweeted that she and Drizzy have called it quits. “Dear Barbz, My husband Drake and I have decided to have our marriage annulled. We’ll maintain joint custody. Luv, HB,” the Young Money Barbie wrote on Saturday. When asked by Twitter fan MissBrownBear who they were sharing custody of, Minaj “All our SONS.” Hip-hop fans began buzzing on Friday when both MCs wrote on their Twitter pages that they had wed. “Please refer to @nickiminaj as Mrs. Aubrey Drake Graham and dont stare at her too long. She’s finally mine. :),” Drake tweeted. Minaj also wrote “Yes, its true. Drake and I tied the knot.” While the duo’s tweets made headlines, the missives were apparently just in good fun. Minaj’s announcement comes after reps for the artists denied that they had ever made it to the altar. Regardless of their marital status, Minaj and Drake have always been tight . Last year, Minaj said that she and her Young Money labelmate are “super-close.” “Before all of this started, I would tell him, ‘You’re a star.’ And he’d be like, ‘You’re a star.’ And we’d kinda been each other’s biggest fans,” Minaj told MTV News. “To see his dreams come into fruition, it makes me very happy.” Earlier this year, Drake said on MTV2’s “Sucker Free Countdown” that “I’ve always really, actually, really had a crush on her, always really loved her, and she’s always just looked at me as, like, her little brother.” However, Minaj said that Drake was playing up their relationship for the entertainment factor and denied rumors that the MCs are more than just friends. “Drake does not have a crush on me,” Minaj said later on “Sucker Free.” “Drake knows how to get you guys’ attention.” Many fans were disappointed by Minaj’s announcement that she and Drizzy are not married. TreyGivesMePPP tweeted to the rapper, “barb you just broke my heart! DRICKI FOREVER!” fashioning catchy portmanteau for the duo. But Minaj gently reminded her followers that they will have to share her eventually. “Barbz 1 day mommy will have to fall in love,” Minaj tweeted . “Don’t b selfish.” What do you think about Nicki Minaj announcing that she and Drake are not married? Paris Hilton Arrested For Cocaine Possession

The star was busted in Las Vegas Friday night. By Mawuse Ziegbe Paris Hilton Photo: Getty Images Paris Hilton was arrested in Las Vegas Friday night for cocaine possession. Police found a small amount of the substance on the socialite and reality-TV starlet after cops pulled over a black Escalade driven by her boyfriend, according to The Associated Press. Officers stopped the SUV on the Las Vegas Boulevard after suspecting marijuana smoke was billowing from the vehicle and found the substance in the heiress’ purse. Hilton was booked into the Clark County Detention Center early Saturday, according to People, and later released without bail. Cy Waits, who is reportedly dating Hilton, was charged with driving under the influence and remained in custody Saturday morning awaiting a court appearance, the AP reports. Hilton was arrested on a felony cocaine possession charge and would likely receive probation if convicted. The star’s attorney, David Chesnoff, told the AP that he was still getting information about the situation, and added “I caution people not to rush to judgment.” The heiress tweeted early Saturday morning but didn’t appear to be shaken up by the incident. “In bed watching Family Guy. Love this show.! So hilarious! Stewie is my favorite 🙂 love his accent,” Hilton wrote around 6 a.m. “Going to bed. Sweet dreams everyone. Xoxo Paris :).” Hilton had another run-in with the law over alleged drug possession earlier this summer. The star was detained in South Africa at the World Cup for marijuana possession, but the case against Hilton was later dropped after officials learned that someone else in her group was smoking. The heiress has a history of getting in trouble for possessing substances and hitting the road. Hilton served 23 days in jail in 2007 for violating probation stemming from a 2006 DUI bust. Kanye West Drops ‘Monster’ Single With Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj

Rick Ross and Bon Iver also appear on the song from West’s joint album with Jay, Watch the Throne. By Mawuse Ziegbe Jay-Z and Kanye West Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ WireImage Kanye West is making good on his word. The outspoken MC announced Sunday that he’ll be dropping a new track every Friday until Christmas with his “G.O.O.D. Friday” campaign. On Friday (August 27), West posted “Monster” on his KanyeUniversecity.com blog , an eclectic all-star collaboration featuring contributions from Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj. West collaborator Bon Iver also lends his folky vibe to the track. The Chi-Town lyricist tweeted that the track was the second offering from Watch the Throne, his newly-announced joint album with Jay-Z . An ominous chorus of distorted vocals opens the track just before Ricky Rozay kicks off his verse over the beat, which is a meaty slice of choppy, drum-driven boom-bap. “Bitch, I’m a monster/ No good bloodsucker/ Fat mother—-er/ Now look who’s in trouble,” Ross spits. Then Kanye enters the fray: “Gossip, gossip/ N—a, just stop it/ Everybody know/ I’m a mother—-in’ monster.” Yeezy rides the beat with several more hard-hitting, bravado-laden bars, unapologetically feeling himself as he wraps up with “My presence is a present/ Kiss my ass.” Hov abandons his typical crisp, cool lyricism and attacks his verse with a hungry, almost sinister flow. “Sasquatch, Godzilla, King Kong, Loch Ness/ Goblin, ghoul, a zombie with no conscience/ Question: What do these things all have in common?/ Everybody knows I’m a mother—-in’ monster,” Jay rhymes. Although the track surfaced the same day Minaj tweeted about supposedly marrying Drake , the Young Money Barbie shows no signs of possibly being mellowed by a relationship, delivering a collection of punch lines buoyed by her trademark energy. “Pull up in a monster/ Automobile gangsta/ With a bad bitch that came from Sri Lanka/ Yeah, I’m in that Tonka/ Color of Willie Wonka/ You can be the king but watch the queen conquer,” Minaj rhymes. ‘Black August’ Screening Draws Chris Rock, Talib Kweli, More

Veteran journalist Dream Hampton spotlights benefit concert for political prisoners. By Jayson Rodriguez Talib Kweli (file) Photo: Al Pereira/WireImage NEW YORK — Chris Rock, Talib Kweli and Dead Prez’s M-1 were among the attendees of veteran journalist Dream Hampton’s screening Thursday night for her documentary “Black August: A Hip-Hop Benefit Concert.” The event, held at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater, showcased the yearly tribute concert that has hosted performers such as Erykah Badu , Mos Def, Common, Dead Prez and David Banner in New York and South Africa. In her film , Hampton features concert footage and interviews with a slew of activists. The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement in Brooklyn powers the concerts each year, and in her doc, Hampton seeks to spotlight issues like police brutality and racial injustice. The concert series and the film seek to address awareness about political prisoners, including Mutulu Shakur, the stepfather of late rap star Tupac Shakur. “I think the cause of political prisoners in the hip-hop community wouldn’t be as relevant in the hip-hop community as it is if it wasn’t for [the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement],” Kweli says in the film. “And it certainly has a long way to go from 10 years ago, and I think it’s more relevant. The bridges that we build in South Africa and Cuba are important. Every year, the show is bigger and better and grander.” Hampton, who has written about hip-hop and culture for The Source and Vibe magazines, among other publications, has labored over the project for years and is finally set to release the project by the end of the year. The event was sponsored by ImageNation and hosted by M-1. Are you looking forward to the Black August film? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Talib Kweli

Mark Ronson Working On D’Angelo album

Producer says D’Angelo has been working ‘nonstop’ on new music. By Mawuse Ziegbe Mark Ronson Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Mark Ronson might be the key to getting some of soul music’s notoriously reclusive artists back in the studio. In addition to a June session with Amy Winehouse for her contribution to a Quincy Jones tribute album, Ronson said he’s slated to work on new material with R&B artist D’Angelo. The British producer told Billboard that he was “going into the studio … to work a bit on his record, and I have equal parts intimidation and awe and excitement.” After releasing two acclaimed albums, 1995’s Brown Sugar and Voodoo in 2000, D’Angelo has, for the most part, vanished from the scene, only occasionally dropping vocals on projects like Q-Tip’s 2008 album The Renaissance and Raphael Saadiq’s 2002 Instant Vintage LP. The singer may have shied away from the limelight in recent years, but Ronson said he’s been staying busy. “I know he’s been working nonstop. It’s not like they’ve been sitting on their asses.” Ronson also revealed that D’Angelo has been keeping up on music during his hiatus. The singer and multi-instrumentalist, who covered Smokey Robinson on his debut and boasts a repertoire that often references throwback R&B sounds, said he’s kept a pair of sonically retro albums in rotation. “I was pretty much floored when D said that the only two records of the past five to six years that he really listened to a lot were St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley and [Amy Winehouse’s] Back to Black, ‘ ” said Ronson, who crafted Winehouse’s 2007 hit album. “I was like, ‘I cannot believe I made something that this guy listened to over and over again and looked to for inspiration.’ ” Are you looking forward to a new D’Angelo album? DJ AM Remembered At Events Across The U.S., One Year Later

Leonardo DiCaprio, Samantha Ronson and more celebs paid tribute to late DJ at L.A. party. By Gil Kaufman DJ AM Photo: Chris Weeks/ WireImage As the one-year anniversary of DJ AM ‘s death approaches, a number of celebrity fans gathered at the Trousdale nightclub in Los Angeles on Tuesday night to honor the DJ who was a beloved part of the city’s nightlife scene. The party was the first of a number of celebrations in honor of AM (born Adam Goldstein), who died last August of a drug overdose. According to the Los Angeles Times, among the celebs at the party were Leonardo DiCaprio, Rashida Jones, Samantha Ronson (who spun a bit on the turntables after reportedly visiting ex Lindsay Lohan on the actress’ first night back from court-ordered rehab), Stephanie Pratt, actress Meagan Good and Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas. Thursday night also brought a tribute to AM, this time at New York club Santos Party House , with scheduled sets from DJ Premier, DJ Stretch Armstrong, Mark Ronson and Eli Escobar. On Saturday, the anniversary will be celebrated at the Fast Life in Los Angeles. The event is being sponsored by the retail store, owned by AM’s musical partner, Blink-182’s Travis Barker. The afternoon gathering will feature sets by DJ Morse Code, DJ Spider and Pase Rock. Attendees can buy a limited-edition DJ AM Mixer T-shirt that will benefit the DJ AM Memorial Fund. “It’s been one year since we lost our friend, so this Saturday we’re meeting up at the Fast Life in Los Angeles to commemorate the life of DJ AM and make a contribution to his memorial fund,” read a blog post at FamousSAS.com announcing the party. Earlier this month, the memorial fund donated money to the Los Angeles branch of the Phoenix House, a residential addiction-treatment facility for young adults, according to TMZ . The cash was aimed at helping buy DJ equipment for the residents, in an effort to inspire them to try their hand at making music. Goldstein was 36 when he was found dead in his New York apartment last summer of an accidental drug overdose . A recovering addict, AM had worked to help other young addicts overcome their addictions in the MTV series “Gone Too Far,” which aired following his death. AOL Radio is honoring AM by posting the final playlist the DJ created for his AOL Radio station, which includes tunes by Lady Gaga, MGMT, A Tribe Called Quest, Beyonc

Jay-Z Endorsing Limited-Run Line Of Yankee Memorabilia

Merchandise will include T-shirts, baseball caps and more to coincide with Yankee Stadium shows with Eminem next month. By Jayson Rodriguez Jay-Z Photo: Nick Laham/ Getty Images If Jay-Z made the Yankee hat more famous than the Yankees did like he claims in “Empire State of Mind,” now the rapper has the chance to prove it. He’s partnered with the championship baseball team to produce a limited run of Jay-Z-endorsed memorabilia, from T-shirts to sweatshirts to fitted caps, to coincide with his and Eminem’s performances at Yankee Stadium next month. The shows are scheduled for September 13 and 14 in the Bronx; the pair will also perform September 3 and 4 at Detroit’s Comerica Park. The co-branded merchandise goes on sale beginning August 30 at Yankee Stadium and will be on sale until September 14. Eminem spoke to Billboard.com on Friday (August 27) about the joint performances and said there won’t be any one-upmanship going on between himself and Jay-Z. (Sorry Tigers fans, sounds like there won’t be any Eminem/Detroit memorabilia available.) “Nah, I don’t think it’ll be anything like a competition,” Eminem said. “For the most part, me and Jay just want people to come out and have a good time. We want them to enjoy the music.” The Detroit MC was reserved when pressed for details regarding the event. He wouldn’t confirm set lists, guest appearances or whether he and Jay-Z would take the stage together at the same time. The pair collaborated once in the past on Jay-Z’s “Renegade,” which Eminem produced for the Brooklyn rapper’s The Blueprint album. “I don’t want to get into it too much,” Eminem said. “I don’t want to give anything away. But … I think it’ll be good. “Hopefully it’ll be songs that everyone is familiar with,” he added.
