2AM Club Hook Up With Kanye West Producer No ID For Debut

L.A. band is set to release What Did You Think Was Going To Happen? in September. By Jocelyn Vena 2AM Club Photo: MTV News This September, L.A. outfit 2AM Club will release their debut studio album, What Did You Think Was Going To Happen? and for it, the guys hit the studio with a number of top-grade producers including former Talking Heads member Jerry Harrison and hip-hop producer No ID , who they say helped shape one “ridiculous” track for their album. “The beginning of the No ID collaboration is he had a track [and] we did our album with an A&R guy named Peter Edge, who worked with Alicia keys and D’Angelo and has done a bunch of amazing records over the last few years,” 2 AM-er Tyler Cordy explained to MTV News. “And we just heard it one day and it was ridiculous. And it always had been there.” So, after thinking it over, the guys decided to revisit the song for the album. “And we heard it and we kind of went back months later and [were like], ‘What happened to the No ID beat?’ … So we got in the studio and hashed out this song, ‘Make You Mine.’ The track turned out ridiculous.” The guys not only hooked up with the hip-hop producer for the track, they also left sunny California to record the album in very chilly New York City. It was a refreshing change. “We had a bunch of demos written when we were leaving L.A. And then, hooking up with our team, they extended the hand [to come to NYC],” Cordy explained. “We never really lived on the East Coast, and we wrote in Brooklyn and spent a number of cold, cold winter months [there]. It gave the record two different angles.” Bandmate Marc Griffin explained that this album means the world to the group. “We’ve been writing it our whole lives,” he said. “It’s about love and heartbreak and nighttime and leaving home.” Related Artists 2AM Club No ID Kanye West

Drake, Kanye West Collabos On The Ready Set’s Wish List

‘Definitely into remixes,’ frontman Jordan Witzigreuter tells MTV News of wanting to work with the hip-hop stars. By Jocelyn Vena The Ready Set’s Jordan Witzigreuter Photo: MTV News The man behind the Ready Set , Jordan Witzigreuter, released his debut album, I’m Alive, I’m Dreaming, earlier this summer, and while the LP doesn’t have any featured guests, the musician says he’s very much open to collaborating on his blend of pop, funk, techno and hip-hop. “I’d kind of like to collaborate with, honestly, anybody!” the Ready Set recently told MTV News. “I’m thinking to try and collaborate with some hip-hop artists, do something with Drake or Kanye West, whoever’s down to! Definitely into remixes and stuff.” Given today’s musical climate, where artists often drop other musical genres into their own personal song sauces, the Ready Set said the timing is perfect for experimentation. “I feel like nobody wants to buy an album that’s 12 songs [of] the same thing,” he said. For I’m Alive, he ensured he wouldn’t have a homogeneous sound by working with a range of producers, including J. R. Rotem (Rihanna, Leona Lewis, Plies). The result, he explained, are tracks that are fun to play for his fans. “It’s cool. It’s always exciting getting to play new songs,” he said. “It’s cool to see people starting to sing along. It’s good seeing people enjoy those songs because I obviously enjoyed writing them. … I’ve been working at something happening for like the past three years, [so] it’s cool now to see a glimpse of things taking off a little bit. The shows have been getting better and better. It’s really cool.” What do you think of the Ready Set? Would you like to see him nab a Drake or Kanye collabo? Let us know in the comments! Slash Files For Divorce

Ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist has two boys with his wife of nine years, Perla Ferrar. By MTV News staff Perla Ferrar and Slash Photo: Chelsea Lauren/ Getty Images Slash has filed for divorce from his wife of nearly nine years, according to TMZ . In documents filed Monday (August 30) in Los Angeles Superior Court, Slash (real name: Saul Hudson) cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for his split with wife Perla Ferrar. The couple, who were married in October 2001, have two boys, age 6 and 8, and Slash is asking for joint physical and legal custody. TMZ reports that, according to the documents, Slash listed the date of separation as July 15, 2010, and is willing to pay Ferrar spousal support. But, the site adds, sources close to the couple say “the breakup is extremely acrimonious.” The couple also reportedly did not sign a prenuptial agreement. Messages left with Slash’s attorney, Laura Wasser — who has handled dissolutions for a list of high-profile clients, like Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie and Kiefer Sutherland — seeking comment were not returned by press time. E-mails to Slash’s rep were also unanswered. In March, Slash released his first proper solo album , which featured appearances from three of the members of Appetite for Destruction -era Guns N’ Roses (Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler), in addition to cameos by Fergie, Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Cornell, Lemmy and Dave Grohl. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard albums chart , selling more than 60,000 copies. This past weekend, he was honored at the third-annual Sunset Strip Music Festival in West Hollywood, California, where he also performed. Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: ‘Takers’

T.I. Salutes Fans For Making ‘Takers’ #1

‘I appreciate the people for showing up and judging for themselves,’ he tells MTV News. By Shaheem Reid T.I. in “Takers” Photo: Columbia Pictures While early estimates had “The Last Exorcism” edging out “Takers” at the box office this weekend, T.I. says not so fast. According to a recalculated tally on BoxOfficeMojo.com , his heist film, also starring Idris Elba and Chris Brown, came out on top, grossing $20.5 million vs. the horror movie’s $20.3 million. “It was so tight, they kinda misinformed people prematurely and gave out the wrong information,” Tip said about the initial numbers. “But officially, as it stands right now, ‘Takers’ is the #1 movie in the country, contrary to popular belief. In my heart, I felt it would be. “Its kinda like the Obama election,” Tip continued. “Not at all as important, but you felt like it was supposed to happen … unless it was some bullsh– in the game, it would likely happen. I’m not in any way trying to compare the magnitude of importance [of the presidential election] to this [box-office] situation, but I’m just trying to somewhat rate my anticipation. Thanks to everyone that supported. Critics were very quick to sign up and criticize the film. I appreciate the people for showing up and judging for themselves. And tweeting and putting out the word of mouth that this really was a good film.” Tip did more than his share to promote the film this weekend. On Friday, he was in Atlanta treating his hometown fans to the flick, and then he headed to the Midwest on Sunday to do the same. “All weekend I been out,” he said. “If I went and the line was packed, I bought all the tickets. Everybody inside who had already bought the tickets, I bought the concessions — popcorn, candy, slushees, sodas. I did that in Atlanta on Friday and Saturday. Sunday, I was in Mount Pleasant [Michigan] with [Ludacris for a concert]. … I went before the concert and took pictures and signed autographs for everyone who bought tickets. And after the show, I went in after the movie theater had closed. They remained open so they could show the film, man. At 11:30 or 11:55. That allowed us to have two more sold-out shows. I appreciate all the people who supported. It was really the energy. The energy surrounding the project was unmatched. “We were in less theaters, we were in smaller theaters [than ‘The Last Exorcism’],” Tip said about the obstacles for “Takers.” “They were in theaters that held 350 and 400. We were in theaters that held 150 and 185, 225. We had a stronger per-screen average, which means all of the screens that we were viewed on and showed on, we had more sold-out shows than they did. It was more people in line for ‘Takers’ than it was for that movie. It didn’t matter how many more screens than us they were on. It kept it close, but they couldn’t bring out the victory, simply because the people demanded it. The quality of [‘Takers’] spoke volumes of what the people wanted to have in the #1 slot.” After the film’s successful debut weekend, Tip was on the phone Monday morning (August 30) with the filmmakers about getting a “Takers” prequel greenlit. Musically, he’s dropping a song in the next few days called “I Pledge Allegiance to the Swag.” Did you check out “Takers” this weekend? Share your reviews in the comments! Paris Hilton Facing Felony Charge In Cocaine Bust

Socialite could get anywhere from probation to four years in prison. By Gil Kaufman Paris Hilton in Las Vegas police custody on Friday Photo: Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Paris Hilton’s arrest on Friday in Las Vegas could land the socialite in jail again. According to a statement from the Clark County District Attorney’s office, the reality star will be charged with felony possession of a controlled substance after police alleged that they found .8 grams of cocaine in her purse during a search following Friday’s incident. The charges could land Hilton anything from probation to four years in prison; she could also face a $5,000 fine. Jillian Prieto, public information officer for the Clark County courts, confirmed that Hilton is due back in Vegas for an arraignment in the case on October 27. TMZ reported that unnamed friends of Hilton’s said the hotel heiress and nightlife regular is wavering a bit from her initial “it wasn’t my purse” story, explaining that Paris claims a friend recently borrowed the purse and “probably” left the illicit drug inside it. Hilton allegedly said the friend returned the bag but that she never bothered to check the contents before using it herself. The friend said Hilton explained that she was eating sushi at the Wynn resort with boyfriend Cy Waits when she got tired and Waits offered to drive her home before returning to his gig as a nightclub boss at the Wynn. “It could be a setup,” Hilton is reportedly telling friends. “Everyone knows how against cocaine I am.” Hilton was pinched after police stopped Waits’ Cadillac Escalade when they smelled “the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle,” according to the police report in the incident. When one of the officers recognized the passenger as Hilton, he said she immediately tried to roll up her window. When police stopped the car and a crowd began to gather, Hilton told the officers she was “extremely embarrassed” and asked if she could use the bathroom at the Wynn and go inside to “prevent her from being molested by the growing crowd and also asked to go somewhere private and out of the public’s eye until the investigation was over.” A Radar Online story claimed Hilton could be off the hook because police allegedly failed to check her purse at the scene and instead didn’t do so until she was inside the Wynn, which her lawyers could argue was an illegal search . The police report confirms that an officer escorted Hilton into the hotel to the Wynn security holding room while they waited for a female officer to take her to the restroom. Inside the Wynn, Paris asked if she could take some lip balm out of her purse, and when the officer handed it to her, he claimed in the report, “As she began, I saw a small bindle of what I believed to be cocaine in a clear baggie begin to fall from the purse and into my hand.” Also found in the purse: a broken tablet of Albuterol — a prescription drug commonly used to treat asthma and wheezing — as well as Zig Zag rolling papers. Hilton copped to the Albuterol but said the cocaine was not hers and that the purse did not belong to her and that she’d borrowed it from a friend. When questioned by the police about the cocaine, she allegedly said “she had not seen it but now thought it was gum.” Also inside the purse were $1,300 in cash and some of Hilton’s credit cards. Reported boyfriend Waits failed a field sobriety test, according to the police report, and was also arrested in the incident and charged with driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol. The heiress had another run-in with the law over alleged drug possession earlier this summer when she was detained in South Africa at the World Cup for marijuana possession. But the case against Hilton was later dropped after officials learned that someone else in her group was smoking. Hilton has a history of getting in trouble for possessing substances and hitting the road, including a 23-day jail sentence in 2007 for violating probation stemming from a 2006 DUI bust. Kanye West Drops Justin Bieber ‘Runaway Love’ Remix

Track channels old-school Wu-Tang Clan, with two new verses from Raekwon. By Jayson Rodriguez Justin Bieber and Kanye West Photo: Getty Images On Kanye West’s re-engineered vision of Justin Bieber’s “Runaway Love,” which arrived online Monday (August 30), ‘Ye and Raekwon take turns trading Wu-homage rhymes in between the teen’s vocals. West sampled the Wu-Tang Clan ‘s 1993 breakout smash “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F— Wit” for the number. In his verse, Kanye pays homage to Raekwon’s standout verse on Jodeci’s “Freek’N You” remix, among other nods to the Staten Island collective. The veteran Wu lyricist also gives a nod to that same verse. “Yo, ‘Ye, what up,” Rae spits, opening the track like he did on the Jodeci hit. “You got stacks like the International House of Pancakes/ All alone, ready to phone me and your hand shakes/ Palms is wetted, don’s regret/ Never to walk miles for love, I sit in the starter’s deck.” “Last name West, and my teeth diamonds,” West rapped. “She said, ‘Yo, what’s your occupation: crazy rhyming?’ ” Bieber’s vocals are the same as on the original. Raekwon anchors the song with two verses, and Kanye has one verse on the track. Raekwon spoke to MTV News earlier this month and revealed that only he and West joined forces in the studio for the track. The wordsmith made no mention of Bieber among the celebrities who were present during the session at New York’s Electric Lady Studios. “Kanye was just being Kanye,” Rae said. “He was definitely excited. The energy in the room was already speaking for itself. It was time to get up and have fun on the track together. We was drinking, laughing, being normal cats. At the same time, we had a houseful of celebrities in the house as well. [Kanye] was moving through the facility, checking out the studios he had. He had three studios in there. “You had Akon in the building. Mos Def was just chillin’. Mos is a good friend of ‘Ye’s,” Rae added. “You had Charlie Wilson, the legendary cat from the Gap Band. Chris Rock walked in. These are guys that really respect who ‘Ye is. ‘Ye’s energy is cool. He’s a normal cat. A normal Chicago/world cat. Very mature. Having a great time.” The record came together after Kanye West and Justin Bieber talked to each other via Twitter. “Listening to @JustinBieber ‘Run Away love,’ ” West wrote “I love Sunday mornings in the crib.” Bieber responded and the two traded messages about their mutual admiration. West then added Raekwon in the mix. The producer revealed that the Wu-Tang Clan star performed on one of his favorite remixes of all time, Jodeci’s “Freek’N You” redux. “Maybe me and Rae should hop on Runaway Love! FLEX would drop bombs,” West wrote on Twitter, referring to Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex’s method for showing his approval of records. What do you think of Kanye West’s “Runaway Love” remix? Kid Rock’s Born Free Due November 16

New album will contain collaborations with T.I., Sheryl Crow and Zac Brown. By Gil Kaufman Kid Rock Photo: JulNeil Lupin/ Redferns There’s no way you’re going to be able to confuse Kid Rock ‘s upcoming album Born Free with twitch-pop bomb-thrower M.I.A.’s song of the same name . First of all, Rock’s eighth studio album, due November 16, was produced by legendary knobmeister Rick Rubin. Second, even though Rock, like M.I.A., will release a song called “Born Free” as his first single, the Detroit bad boy’s tune focuses not on world affairs, but on the economic decline of his hometown, Detroit. A press release announcing the album calls Born Free “transformational,” going on to note that while Rock retains his “edge, wit, and swagger” on the record, he has left his rap-metal roots behind. “There isn’t even a parental warning sticker,” the release says. Rock described how D-town inspired the Americana feel of some tracks. “The catalyst for this record was Detroit, and my thoughts on the world through the lens of Detroit,” he said. “Watching everything go downhill over the past few years, the economy, the loss of jobs everywhere, I wanted to make a record that reflected the times but that still had soul.” Most of the album was recorded during a two-week session in Los Angeles with a band that included Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Los Lobos guitarist/singer David Hidalgo and Chavez guitarist Matt Sweeney. The release also noted that Rock logged time in studios in Detroit, Nashville and Atlanta to lay down collaborations with fellow hometown rock icon Bob Seger, former flame Sheryl Crow, Zac Brown and Trace Adkins. T.I. and Martina McBride will appear on a song called “Care.” The disc is the follow-up to 2007’s slow-burn success Rock N Roll Jesus , which produced the Lynyrd Skynyrd-inspired 2008 hit “All Summer Long.” Rock provided a preview of the album earlier this month when he performed six of its songs during a series of hometown shows. In addition to the Detroit-boosting anthem “Times Like These,” he pulled the cover back on the Springsteen-like title track, the midtempo “Slow My Roll,” the somber “Rock On,” the 1970s-style rocker “Feels Good to Me” and the Rolling Stones-influenced “God Bless Saturday.” Related Artists Kid Rock

Robyn Is ‘Super-Duper Excited’ To Perform At VMAs

Swedish superstar will perform a ‘never-before-heard mix’ of ‘Dancing on My Own’ with VMA house artist Deadmau5. By James Montgomery Robyn Photo: Roger Kisby/ Getty Images Somewhat lost in last week’s announcement that both Usher and Paramore will be performing at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards was the news of who else would be joining the festivities … and no, we’re not talking about the stars of “The Social Network.” It’s Robyn, the Swedish superstar who, slowly but surely, has begun her stateside assault with a pair of highly touted pop albums ( Body Talk Part 1 and Body Talk Part 2, both released this year, with a third installment due in December), a stirring single and video ( “Hang With Me” ), and a string of sweat-drenched, sweet-and-salty live shows . And on VMA night, she’ll take another step towards mainstream success when she performs with house artist Deadmau5 during the big show. She’s just one of the artists who’ll be jamming with Deadmau5 — other confirmed acts include Travie McCoy and Jason Derulo — but she’s certainly the one with the most to prove. After all, to most VMA viewers, she’ll be the wild card, the great unknown. And, as she told MTV News, Robyn is more than honored to be performing … and definitely looking forward to the challenge. “Deadmau5 is fantastic and I’m super-duper excited to be able to perform for the VMA audience,” she said in an email. “I’m gonna be ‘dancing on my own’!” That, of course, is a reference to a (really awesome) single from the first Body Talk album — she’ll be performing “a never-before-heard mix” of it at the VMAs — and though you probably aren’t familiar just yet, we’re willing to bet that after Robyn rocks the show, that will change. Quickly. The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners in general categories, including Best New Artist, from now through September 12. Paris Hilton May Claim Illegal Search To Beat Cocaine Rap

Boyfriend Cy Waits reportedly lost his job at the Wynn resort over the incident. By Gil Kaufman Paris Hilton Photo: Getty Images/ Carlos Alvarez It was a good news/ bad news scenario for Paris Hilton after the globe-trotting heiress was arrested for cocaine possession in Las Vegas over the weekend. The bad news, obviously, was that police allege they found cocaine in Hilton’s purse after pulling over boyfriend Cy Waits’ black Cadillac Escalade outside the Wynn Las Vegas resort on Friday night because they suspected that marijuana was being smoked inside the vehicle. But Radar Online is reporting that Hilton — who claimed the purse in which a small amount of cocaine was found did not belong to her — may be able to beat the charges because she was not searched on the scene, according to an unnamed source close to Hilton. The source said that Paris was taken into the security offices at the Wynn and searched there. “Cops discovered the cocaine inside the security offices where Paris was taken,” the source said. “Because Paris was taken away from the scene where the car was pulled over, this could potentially be an illegal search of a person … Las Vegas Metro didn’t follow standard procedures when Paris was arrested and her lawyer will be talking to the D.A. about this.” Hilton has said the purse belonged to a friend, though police have not identified any other passengers in the vehicle so far or pressed charges against anyone besides the reality star and Waits, who was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Hilton’s Las Vegas-based attorney, David Chesnoff, was slated to speak to the Las Vegas District Attorney’s office on Monday to argue that there is no basis for the charges, since, the source said, the amount of cocaine police allegedly found is “negligible, the purse it was found in wasn’t hers and Paris was illegally searched.” The news was not as good for nightclub boss Waits, who was reportedly fired by boss Steve Wynn following the arrest. According to the Las Vegas Review , the couple were arrested shortly after leaving the Wynn resort, where Waits and twin brother Jesse were promoted to nightclub operations chiefs late last week. The paper could not reach Waits and Wynn for comment to confirm the reports. KSNV-TV reported that earlier Friday night Hilton declined an offer to keep her limo for the night and instead said Waits would be driving her party around for the evening. Hilton thanked her fans for standing by her in her latest drug arrest, tweeting on Sunday, “I’m so thankful to all my fans for all the love and support you are giving me. Thank you all. Love you so much. Love Paris xoxo.’ ” The heiress had another run-in with the law over alleged drug possession earlier this summer when she was detained in South Africa at the World Cup for marijuana possession. But the case against Hilton was later dropped after officials learned that someone else in her group was smoking.
